Game info (wiki)
Dante's Inferno is a 2010 action video game developed by Visceral Games and published by Electronic Arts. The game was released for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Portable in February 2010. The PlayStation Portable version was developed by Artificial Mind and Movement.
The game's story is loosely based on Inferno, the first canticle of Dante Alighieri's Divine Comedy. It follows Dante, imagined as a Templar knight from the Crusade, who, guided by the spirit of the poet Virgil, needs to fight through the nine Circles of Hell to rescue Beatrice from the clutches of Lucifer himself. In the game, players control Dante from a third-person perspective. His primary weapon is a scythe that can be used in a series of combination attacks and finishing moves. Many attack combinations and abilities can be unlocked in exchange for souls, an in-game currency that is collected upon defeating enemies.
Before the game's release, Dante's Inferno underwent a prominent, at times elaborate marketing campaign led by the game's publisher Electronic Arts. This included the release of a fake religious game called Mass: We Pray, a motion controller-based game supposedly allowing players to engage in an interactive prayer and church sermon. The game received generally positive reviews upon release; critics praised the game's art style and level design, with some comparing it to God of War III.

"Im so SICK of you" dude that line gave me chills
Yep I remember that line so vividly, this game had some freaky moments
It cracks me up Satan insults all the past greatest warriors of greek and rome. Alexander, Ulysses all have failed me yet you are truly the greatest. Then 10 minutes later " Im so sick of you.."
@@jackepong6300 He's the Devil, the prince of lies, what kind of coherence would you ever expect from him?

So Danté meets his Devil may Cry namesake? Could work in a spin-off game.
The only problem I have with Dante’s inferno is Dante only has ever faught humans yet somehow he’s able to kick the grim reapers’s ass upon first meeting him
Yeah agreed a bit of back story showing him being a fearsome human warrior could have been pretty cool
The only plothole
Agreed
@@HacknSlashMB I think it's just assumed he was a fearsome warrior.
The point of that was that Dante was already in Hell when he was stabbed in the back, but he believed at the time that he defeated Death
The problem is Dante is a Mary Sue character. 😂
Ah...PS3 era😌 Despite how old this game is, it STILL looks amazing. Even the animated movie's still good in my opinion
Totally agree, so underrated, shame it got labelled as another god of war clone :(
@@HacknSlashMB I miss this kind of hack and slash games with liner cameras that show the full screen of the player fighting the enemies not the third-person perspective camera like Hellblade and God of War 4.
This game was the only game i pre ordered straight master piece
yeah its really really good, I was surprised at the level of detail they put into it, its way more than a god of war clone
Dante and Dante from DMC chillin in a local McDonalds talking about random shit about both their experiences, while Vergil and Virgil chill somewhere else.
now that would be a crossover id like to see !
Could work. Next, a hellhorde led by Diablo attacks the city where said McDonalds is located.
Alighiero will always be my favourite fight in this game
It's the only fight with cool gimmicks, he gets new attacks and the arena gets smaller
On Infernal, whenever he yells "Sins of the Father!" is a one-shot
It was a fantastic boss fight, its a tie between him and also the the reaper at the start for me :D appreciate the comment
@@HacknSlashMB Gotta agree on the Reaper too
Visceral designed it just right to test how the controls work
Oh, one more thing
If you installed this game's latest update, Zealot gets much more challenging in terms of enemy HP.
Something cool I noticed. Death and King Minos both have Satan's same face of his sealed form before he is freed for the final boss. Which possibly means you were fighting lucifier 4 times actually. If I recall the other 2 characters have the same voice actor as lucifer which plays into this more. This makes sense with his plan since the whole journey was to get him to the final circle of hell and since nobody goes down there he needed to bait dante but also give him a fair chance to get there. Hence the death fight and dante getting that scythe. Satan afterall always was a trick master.
Wow, I buy into this so much !, great observation, I think I’ll have to play through this one again
So what you are saying is Death and Minos may have just been Lucifer in disguise?
@@rorschach1985ify yes
@@rorschach1985ify it would certainly make more sense for the devil to be the one to condemn souls than some random sinner king.
now I'm wondering...if the Grim Reaper was Lucifer the whole time, does that men that the scythe was his creation and that he also has the power to harvest and absorb souls for power?
mm....perhaps his plan is to absorb the souls of everyone in Purgatory and Paradise in order to gain enough strength to challenge God.
I dunno the idea of going through hell unnerved me when I played it years ago. Damn this was a pretty decent game.
I know a lot of people called it a god of war clone, but I genuinely loved this game, the story wasn’t too complex, the move set was clean and fun. Wish they would remaster it
@@HacknSlashMB GoW and Dante's Inferno are completely different games but they share almost the same concept of going through some kind of burden to save one thing, and i love both games because of it
And a remaster is not gonna happen, iirc Visceral Games went bankrupt
@@outrundoubtrun-lemonadeart682 EA shut down visceral games, sadly
great video 👍
Thankyou bro :)
Imo, these cutscene graphics are way better than graphics in today's recent video games. Mass Effect, Assassin's Creed, Watch Dogs, Sekiro, their cutscene graphics just don't seem to compete Dante's Inferno in similar footing. Of course, Dante Inferno's gameplay graphics play no match against today's gameplay graphics.
I totally agree, I thought the cutscenes and even the in game graphics were very very good
I KNOW you did not just say that this game, fantastic as the graphics are, has better graphics than Mass Effect 1-3. The other games, sure, you have a point
All of the bosses represent an aspect of Dante's personality, although completely exaggerated:
-Death is as what his name suggests, his harbinger of death aspect. Death acts as the reaper of souls in the name of something higher, just like Dante killed Muslims in the Crusades in the name of God.
-Minos is his self-righteousness: Just like Minos is the judge of the souls and is dispassionate, ruthless and believes that HIS word is law, Dante also believed himself the ultimate authority of the mortal souls during the Crusades.
-Marc Antony is his lust: In life, Marc Antony was a man dominated by his passions, to the point he cheated on Octavia with Cleopatra, which ended up kickstarting the events that would lead to Octavian's ascension to power, mirroring Dante's unfaithfulness towards Beatrice with a slave girl, similarly dominated by his passions, which kickstarted the whole game plot.
-Cerberus is his gluttony: Cerberus gorges constantly upon the tormented with virtually no self-control, paralleling Dante's gorging himself on food during a flashback, although it can be also interpreted as Dante devouring, as in killing others with no self control.
-Alighiero is his greed: When he was alive, Alighiero only cared about getting richer, hoarding and wasting with no self control, adding the fact that he looks like an older version of Dante, his son, mirroring Dante's subconscious greed for power and glory.
-Phlegias is his wrath: In life, Phlegias set the Temple of Delphi on fire on a fit of wrath and damned himself, paralleling Dante's rage which led him to kill the prisoners at Acre and allowing Francesco to be condemned to death.
-Francesco is his self-denial: Francesco delusionally convinced himself that he was fighting for the glory of God by killing heretics, a direct parallel to Dante's atrocities while justifying himself doing them for God, when in reality he was doing it for himself.
-Lucifer is his pride: Lucifer was casted out from Heaven because of his pride, just like Dante was casted out because of his pride, being horribly blinded by pride.
Holy moly, that is such good insight. That makes each fight far more interesting. Where / how did you find out about this?
@@HacknSlashMB By doing research and analyzing the crusades flashbacks. This game has very good lore. Regardless, by defeating them, Dante overcomes his sins, as the bosses are literal representations of his own sins, aspects of his personality but completely exaggerated.
An this brings back so many good memories not perfect i think the arenas and bosses in the first haft were better designed than the latter haft. But i just love this story of literally going through hell to face your demons and the ghosts of your past and not just overcoming but gaining deeper insight and against all odds redeeming them.
Also p.s best scythe design hands down, it being so modular and flexible actually would make it a functional pole arm style of weapon.
YES!, I couldn't agree more, I also thought this game was fantastic. Pleasantly surprised by how well it was put together along with the lore. Wish we got a sequel
@@HacknSlashMB yes
Wish we got a sequel
I’d love a new gen console remaster or sequel
HacknSlashMB YES!
Sadly the studio doesn't exist anymore
Well, we’ll always have fanfics...? And who knows maybe someone will make fan sequels.
Maybe in the next sequel it takes place in heaven
I would love to see games based on Dante’s Purgatorio and Paradiso respectively.
Yes me too, would have been a fantastic add on
man,i simply loved your play style, you use more the cross then anything else
also in the final say 'to be continue' is just like half life 3?
Oh wow :) thank you, I appreciate the kind words, I remember trying to mix it up as much as possible, I rated this game so highly. I think there was a sequel in the works for a while . . not sure what happened :(
@@HacknSlashMB i readed divine comedy, and in there says the journey of dante didn't end yet,he passed by the purgatory, then heaven
@@pee5897 fingers crossed we get a next gen sequel, or even a remaster
@@pee5897 Didn't Dante go to Purgatory where Beatrice waited and then both of them went to Heaven in the end?
@@HacknSlashMB At least a Re-master could have an improved Fraud level.
I think my only problem with this game was just how insanely overpowered the Holy Cross was (as demonstrated in this video 😂)
Can’t lie, I spammed it
I mean.....it's the holy cross for a reason
@@thatjackass1403 literally lmao
*"THE POWER OF CHRIST COMPELS YOU !!!"*
Makes me wonder, how was your first trip to the 2nd circle. I highly doubt that the Cleopatra boss fight will get you *_Demon_* etized! Get it!? Okay, i'll go now...
Literally everyone talking about the game
While me : **Focused on Lucifer's bottom half and questioning the game devs ' Why???!'**

@@HacknSlashMB Yup, specially when that thing is swinging all around whenever he move or we attack him damn

Man it got me too
Dante Alighieri is my hero
Super underrated character, I love how powerful he gets
Dante and incredible The first man to face death without fear of dying

the fight with death was my favourite !

Ah yes back in the day when games were masterpieces
Yeah agreed this game was really good

This game is one of my top 5 its such a same we did not get a sequel and visceral games had closed down in 2018.
"to be continued" so that was a fkn lie?
A real shame really 😥
Brutal
I sure don't remember Lucifer having that meat sword swinging around when I played this game...
Ahahah best comment I’ve read all month!!! 😂😂
Too fast to spot no doubt.
So no-ones gonna talk about how hung lucifer is?
Hahaha first comernt regarding that 😆😅
@Nerina Daniels That's how he turned: Forgive me Father for I have sinned. Into: Punish me Daddy I've been naughty.
I know. Damn Lucy 👀
Itz like 11inches damn 😂😂😂😂😭 !
@@Fifocz Technically Satan started a Rebellion in Heaven and lost. He was basically corrupted by his own aggressively high sense of himself. I think from a book it said that he's basically a Choir Director that wanted to rule God's Church as a Pastor. And then he was evicted.
rw:this game is rly all based off the book of the same name.
I thought that cross was his chest hair.
That would be stylish
Dante needs to be in Mortal Kombat 11
straight up, imagine his fatalities :0
@@HacknSlashMB bet one of his fatalities would be the one of how he killed death and Minos
Killing death means no one else needs to go to hell. Nice
As first boss too !!
I have this game an it is awesome...
I would love a remaster
Dante you orange juice 29:27 noooooo a Sorry
Hahaha
its funny how human can refuse death by killing grim reaper,.... i laugh so hard at this point HAHAHAHAHAHA
Real death angel: Yeah,... YOU WISH!!
Not today mr.reaper not today :)
Played This Game On A Psp Emulator And It's Awesome
It’s so good, wish we got a sequel
I wish Ash Williams (Army of darkness) or Max Steel (1999) or Action Man (1993) were a bit like Dante
Basically God of War meets The Divine Comedy Part 1. Fairly certain it's also inaccurate compared to the actual books. Still good though.
Such a sick game, I really enjoyed it, the bosses weren’t as good as GOW series
666 likes. I'll fix that.
Kinda fitting no? 😂
Not gonna lie Everytime I Played This Game I Always Making It Easy Difficult Because I'm Scared
First boss always freaked me out
This game had some faults, but I'll be damned if it didn't have it's epic moments.
100% I loved it, we need a sequel!!
So wait he killed the reaper so does that mean he is now the reaper? Or does the reaper just give up or is the world in shambles without someone gathering souls kinda like In God of war 4
Great question I never thought of it like that, I always thought he killed the reaper and somewhat gathered his powers
I saw someone speculate that this isn't the real Grim Reaper in another reply section of the comments here, and what he wrote actually makes quite some sense ! Basically what the other guy theorized is that the Reaper here is actually a demon in disguise, sent by Lucifer for the purpose of setting the the plan in motion for Dante to come to the final circle and release him from his chains.
I enjoyed this game a lot except for the end when you had to do all those stupid trials, that was just lame and boring
Absolute nightmare, took me ages !!!
I agree - they should've done Fraud better.
I'm NEW..
Good
The fat boss. Is that Reinheirt? Lmao
Mabe we have to wait till we demand a sequel. Like with Pyconaughts
I DEMAND a sequel :D
And then it was never continued
such a shame really :(
I felt a little sad for the defeat of Marc Anthony 😭
He tried, there were other distractions
What difficulty was this played on?
I believe normal
Wackest last boss ever
You are not wrong man, I mean it was epic but sheeesh
I wish Ash Williams (Army of darkness) or Max Steel (1999) or Action Man (1993) were a bit like Dante
