The fiber plates (frictions) are the "drive" plates and engage the fingers of the outer clutch basket, which is geared to the crankshaft and rotates in the opposite direction from the crankshaft. The steel plates are the "driven" plates and engage the splines of the clutch center (inner hub). The inner hub, in turn, is splined to the input shaft of the transmission. The gears, coupling the outer clutch basket with the crankshaft are what is called the "primary drive". Another common type of primary drive is primary chain drive. It is my understanding that the parallel splines of the inner hub and the diverging channels between the fingers of the outer basket work in concert to provide additional room for movement (slight fanning out) of the fiber plates relative to the steel plates (which maintain their alignment relative to one anther) responsive to existing shear forces, thus helping separate the clutch plates when the clutch lever is pulled in.

So what's on order? Are you replacing friction and steel plates, and springs?

Just the frictions and springs. All the steels are within spec. The locknut came in the mail today. It's a hex :)

Makes it easy that it's a hex now. Should have been all along. Any chance the old one could have been removed with a punch and hammer?
Don't forget about 5th gear and holding the brake on to tighten it.

@Pete V. You MAY be able to remove the original nut with a punch (chisel?) and hammer. Not sure if I like the idea of banging on the input shaft of the tranny from one side, however. I would prefer to have two people strike the nut with punches in opposing directions at the same time to more or less cancel the forces on the shaft (and bearing that supports it).

Hi -- are you saying that your CB has a hydraulically actuated clutch? If so, is this a factory system or an aftermarket modification?

@@Zerk_Ziegler it's a factory system I have spent the whole day trying to c how the pressure plate will fully disengage but just didn't I tried bleeding still never managed

@@kevingif2703 Some additional info would be helpful. Did the clutch start malfunctioning recently, or was it behaving this way when you got the bike? Does the clutch-lever pull feel normal? Can you observe any leaks at the master cylinder or at the slave? When you say the clutch does not disengage, is it just difficult to shift gears, or you cannot shift at all? I suspect there might be some air in the system. Are you confident that you bled the system correctly?
