The issue with the second coat crinkling seems to have been high humidity from the wet carpets drying out due to the heater in the garage. There are other reasons for crinkled paint but in this situation, that seems to be the most obvious reason. I'm no expert but from the little I've learnt of what happens is that the first coat is still drying but at a different rate to the top layer. So the first coat grabs onto the top coat and pulls it together but since the different coats of paint are different volumes, the only place for the top coat to go is up and so crinkles. Think of an elastic band on a pair of shorts. You stretch the band out. The top layer is flat but let it go and the elastic pulls the fabric into folds. The elastic is the first coat of paint. The fabric is the top coat of paint.
Yeah, i spoke with a few painters and they said that could of caused the issue, they also said that i should have done a sealer coat over the full bumper, then went in with my base. apparently if you sand to much, the solvents in base can find its way under and cause the wrinkle effect also. either way, its a lesson learned and hopefully ill be able to avoid in the future.
Thanks mate, its all a learning curve for me so i think it helps to show what can go wrong when you do this stuff. A lot of channels wouldnt have shown that and make things seem a lot easier than they are sometimes.
Lovely results, well done on the perseverance especially with the nightmare of the flooding, Hope that’s the last of the bad weather for you this year buddy, I feel your pain as I’ve been trying to get a half a day to wash mine but this weather is just relentless at the minute. 👍🥃
Thanks mate, the weather has been horrid. I was actually down south at the start of the week for work and it was much nicer, really hoping that kind of weather makes its way up north.
Thanks mate, yeah i got there in the end and have since gotten some much better results. The guns in my opinion are perfect for someone like myself who will only use them occasionally
the Braveheart of car maintenance, and always fighting the weather 😁
haha thanks mate
