If there was ever a 100% that shouldn't have been shared with the public, it's this one. BUT I DID IT. Stellar Blade is a LOT more rounded than what appearances may be even if some aspects come off as flat. Did I spend hours reading random datalogs and putting together pieces others wouldn't care about? YEAP. This PlayStation 5 Exclusive (for now) has a lot going on.

I hope y'all dug the video! I worked REALLY hard on this over the last few weeks and I'm just as surprised as anyone else at how much was beyond the surface here. Scrolling through datalogs isn't the most exciting work that's for sure.
What's a 100% you'd like to see me tackle? Lemme know on this comment!
Look at this dude. He did not play Blade And Soul which was created by the same team under ShiftUP director before they left Nexon. Shame on you.
@@diamondhamster4320To be fair, besides you and I, who did play Blade and Soul?

33:50 Not even just Automata, but even Replicant with the "we're false humans and we're killing the original humans" thing. Only (small) difference is that the naytibas are completely feral instead of preserving some type of humanity like the Shades.
The good ending is even basically the endgame of project Gestalt... or rather the intended endgame since lol whoops
@@AzraelNewtype0079 And the bad ending is essentially ending A from Replicant, though at least Eve is aware of the result of her choice. Poor NieR.
It's true that Naytibas don't typically recover their lost intelligence (except Orcal), but the point of it was more to preserve human DNA in whatever form they could which they at least succeeded at, because without mutating into Naytibas there wouldn't be any. Now Eve can put her and Adam's fused DNA inside the Cradle and thousands of people sleeping there will wake up with human DNA, and they'll be even stronger than most Angels.
You’re too late Austin, I have already gone this far.
Then... you know.
Same! Had a blast

Stellar Blade had Austin written all over it.
I'm definitely down for more "I Beat _____ 100% so you don't have to...but maybe you should".
Eve holding the cans up with a different pose each time is the most charming thing about this game tbh
Austin, you missed an important plot point at the start in Eidos 7.
SPOILERS:
When you are getting the fusion core from the digital library, there is a brief history (Albeit false) presentation over the intercom regarding "humans" and how the transcended to androids by replacing their hearts with cores that didn't require basic human functions (breathing, eating etc). Hence why Eve, Lily and everyone else on Xion thought of themselves as humans and comes as a shock when they find out they were indeed the robots created in the robot vs human war.
When introduced Lilly after Adam... I said out loud to no one, "So we have Adam, Eve, and Lilith. Sure, right, gotcha."
The biggest irony is that the actual Lilith archetype in the game isn't Lily. It's Raven.
@@AICW To be fair... Can you imagine the headache of travelling with Raven xD Anytime Adam will say anything remotely nice to Eve, she'll do something crazy.
Yeah i picked up on that too. haha
100% Wanted:Dead. I genuinely loved the game, it got panned, and has something like a 18% completion on the first mission. Ps1/2-era inspiration.
Not played the game, but I would definitely watch this
I unironically expected a Lily betrayal the entire time given she’s clearly the Lilith stand in, but I guess it wouldn’t have fit the story’s narrative
Also, could have used more snake and apple motifs. Lily’s atelier garden being the Eden stand-in WAS clever imo lmao
Makes you wonder why wasn't Raven the Lilith stand in. Her role in the narrative kind of fits for that name.
@@Kingdom850 Given that narrative wasn’t their primary consideration, even with how cookie cutter their story was, I guess we expected too much despite it being the bare minimum lol
@@MPBoosterAxel Yeah but subsiding tropes is interesting. Besides, travelling with Raven would've been super dramatic and chaotic.
@@MPBoosterAxel
What's cookie cutter about the story? I saw a vid on it, it was quite complex, though it's hidden in the logs.
tbh this year kinda just feels like reassurance that only focusing on indie and retro games for my library was the right decision lmfao
It's a fantastic year for indies that's for sure.
And you are saying this under a great single-player AAA experience. Sounds logical.
@@novurdim this is literally an indie Dev’s first game. What are you talking about?
@@gipsyg27 what? Is Cyberpunk 2077 an indie game too by this logic?
@@novurdim chill tf out bro i was referring to the intro of the video when saying this lol, stellar blade looks cool af
Idk about the criticism around the "We are humans" stuff. I never thought it was meant to be a surprise to the player. We were just meant to expierence the moment the those characters had that reality change.
Yup
That's referred to as "dramatic irony"
I mean, it's kind of given away right from the start. Organic humans don't have memory sticks!
I believe the director of the game himself said this was the case recently in an interview.
Yeah the director recently said neither Adam or Naytibas being human was meant to be a plot twist, just things decided in extremely early development. In his words, "Adam's connection to Eve and lore was decided in early development."

Platinum it I know I did
“You like sand? How bout dirt?” Made me spit out my water ☠️
Maybe it's because I had Korean voices on (hearing the English voice of Adam in this video really makes him come across as indifferent to... everything, and this is coming from someone that always appreciates English dubs) but Adam didn't feel nearly as bland for me. I actually found him pretty cool to the point that I found myself wanting to believe him when he revealed his identity and motives.
That is fascinating. Different language, delivers a different performance altogether. It is amazing how dialog can be a unique experience, but then in English something feels off
Thats my thoughts as well. Like when Breath of the Wild start doing voices for Zelda, i thought the Japanese sounded a lot better, more feel to it than the English, ofc now i appreciate it and like the english but for sure different languages make a difference.
Why wouldn't you want to believe him anyway, he's telling the truth lol xD Anyways I played in English and still liked it. Although they probably should've kept Sen Mitsuji's voice. (Adam's real life mode.) He could've done both the Japanese and English dub himself. He's an actor. Instead they hired someone else to voice Adam.
@@kadosho02 I liked English.
I think you got that one statement wrong, "Even FF 7 Rebirth isn't safe from Squ-Enix's absurd expectations" is more accurate.
In response to your Balan Wonderworld comment, I wouldn’t mind if you decided to cover more video game novels.
Oh I'll definitely have to beat Stellar Blade 100% for myself.
Awesome video. Thanks for going so in depth with this one.
Austin 100% "beat" The Yams 😏
I've 100%'d four games in my life. This is one. It was just so much better than I expected so it felt like it was worth the effort. That aside, its weird to see you do it when you normally do it for insufferable games. Glad the title reflects that it is a good one!
I was already interested in getting the game and I'm not really dissuaded from it. It just seems all right, which also seems to be the main consensus for the game.
For me it's the most fun I have had with a game since the ps5 came out. I had more fun with it than elden ring, God of war, ff7 rebirth.
Not saying it is better than those games. Just more fun.
Elden ring was too long which grew tiresome for me. Too much of a good thing.
Ff7 rebirth had a bit too many meaningless activities. Taking me away from story.
God of war had a terribly disappointing final segment. Which weakened its story focus.
Stellar blade was trying to give a sexy cinematic action flick type of game. Story wasn't its focus. So when I went in knowing that's what they were aiming for I was delighted that they executed that perfectly. Mediocre story, interesting world and lore but great combat system, great collectibles, great action sequences and great music, which is what I wanted from the game. Shame about the blood censorship though. I loved that feature in God of war, bloodborne, dark souls etc.
The combat is a ton of fun took me about 40 hours to beat I did every side quest tbh the story is forgettable and the voice acting kinda sucks i would wait for a sale before purchasing if your a fan of nier you more than likely will love this game.
@@oukeith do you regret paying full price? I'm surprised by that, i played through new game plus for the extra abilities and op variations of exospines. So I've gotten 70hrs out of it. I'll jump back on for the boss rush.
Which combat did you prefer nier automata or stellar blade? Same question actually for music?
@nathanscott2871 no I really don't regret it I prefer stellar blades combat but I like Nier better as a game overall.
@@oukeith oh strange then that you would recommend it at a lower price? When you didn't have a problem paying that price? Just to clarify, I am NOT judging your opinion, I am curious how you came to that conclusion to reccomend on sale when you didn't mind paying full price?
Yea I go for this breakdown:
Graphics, SB > Nier
Design, SB > Nier
Music, SB > Nier
Gameplay, SB > Nier
Customisation, SB > Nier
Story, SB < Nier
World, SB > Nier
Overall stellar blade beats nier, but niers story is so much better that it almost pulls level with stellar blade. Stellar blade is a top 10 game whereas nier is a top 20 game for me.
Honestly glad to see a review that’s just talking about the game itself rather than using it for obnoxious gaming discourse. Because it sounds like a pretty fun game, despite the mid plot
Director Kim Hyeong-tae said that many parts of the story were cut out because of the game's pacing.
What's interesting is that the more people who are attracted to this game play the game, the more they think the story is well made.
Another thing is that the evaluation of this game's story is divided into whether it is from a Western or Eastern perspective.
In order for the Stella Blade series to appeal to Westerners, the game story will need to take a more global approach.
Yeah they obviously had a ton of ideas for the story, so I'm excited for the sequel. I don't care about anyone says, I liked it. Could've just been told more straightforwardly.
I was wondering about that. Being from the US I felt the same way about the references to Christianity as Austin described, but I wonder how people from S. Korea or yeah other Asian countries (not exclusively east Asian) would feel about it. I vaguely remember hearing something about how the references in NGE felt more on-the-nose to Western viewers than Japanese viewers.
@@A.W.GundamXCX Christianity and Catholicism are just religions. they are not at the level of religions that are deeply rooted and integrated into people's lives like in Europe or North America.
Of course, it will have an important impact on the lives of believers,
So Asian people definitely feel different from Westerners.
So it's the Nier and Nier Automata plots in one game with the whole naytibas kinda being just like gestalts
Pretty much. This is getting tiring. You can only take a story like this so far, then it feels like rinse and repeat.
@@kadosho02 I feel like the plot was also kind of inspired by the old PC game Total Annihilation as well. When humanity's definition is reduced to only being flesh and blood, is that an acceptable cost for devolving into becoming mindless murderers and endless hatred against metal and code.
I just played the demo for this the other day. And I just want to play the whole game now.
was going to comment about the title... but... game is worth 100%-ing because its actually pretty easy to do.
It seems alot of ppl went into this game thinking this was gonna be Neir/Code Vein. I understand why, but everyone on YT seems to say the same thing about the game and nothing else, it feels like everyone is just copying the same homework fom the one guy who copied from the next.
Or maybe the game doesn't much to it beyond what people are seeing. That's not a bad thing, you know.
@@Kingdom850 Or people don't want to put any effort into their videos.
@@Angel_Auraa You really think every single person who made a video on this game specifically put no effort into it? With how annoying the algorithm can be and most people upload videos to keep the lights on? Come on man listen to yourself, that's ridiculous.
There's not much to the game. It's a great action hack and slash with excellent music but a lackluster story and characters. This seems to be the consensus among most who played it, and again, *this isn't a bad thing.* The game still sold extremely well and a sequel is teased to be in the works so the developers have a chance to improve.
Seeing Austin Without Glasses made me realize he needs a break
bet
Still won't stop me from getting it... eventually.
Also, for those who don't know, a photomode is in the works
I got the Japanese disk copy to be able to have all voices available (the Japanese VA is much better than Korean and English dub imho and is only available on Japanese version). It was also less expensive to have it exported (I used FromJapan export proxy and got it through amazon japan) because of how weak the Yen is right now. Saved about $8 compared to USA pricing.
Also I think you misunderstood, the plot surprise wasn’t supposed to be a surprise for players per se, but for the characters. It seemed clear to be very early on we weren’t dealing with humans
It was just hard for me to get invested as the revelation wasn't very... revelatory.
My only gripe with it was how hard lily took it. It bothered me greatly for some reason- after all of the information they had been confronted with, and her aggressively childlike reaction to the news felt out of place or just a sign of a weak character. I wasn’t her biggest fan in general.
@@Haydentrudyjones Lily is too innocent, she never even questioned who she was and who she was working for. Basically Tails from Sonic. Lol. xD I think you can be cutesy and still know something is off about the woman you're working for.
Lol that is a good comparison, although tails is in my canon a child by default 😂 they’re allowed to be naive. Lily isn’t a child, just is modeled after one for aesthetic/trope reasons and I think that’s why she bothers me so much in the English version
I already platted the game, got all outfits (in ng and ng+) and beat the entire boss rush on hard. It's too late. I played it.
Love how Stellar Blade is to the 2020s what Bayonetta was for the late 2000s and Nier Automata was to the 2010s.
This will age like milk when taro comes out with the next nier and does everything stellar blade does but better.
@@Mohgenstein I sure hope he does..
@@MohgensteinWell, then i'm glad to have this to fill the gap then. And who knows? Maybe we'll get some sort of sequel that stand apart more.
@@Mohgenstein Considering the 'next' nier was nier reincarnation, it's lookin kinda grim
I don’t think SB has the wacky appeal or deep story that either of those games had to create their legacies.
I platinumed, did 5+ playthroughs and still playing with 115+ hours clocked in so no one else has to and I’m still having the time of my life haha
At least it's not Crymachina. That's the real "We Have Nier Automata at home".

Austin: "There should be more video game novels."
All indie horror games: "DID SOMEBODY SAY NOVELS!?! *HAHAHAHA--"*
Hey Austin, something you might find interesting as a wider deep dive thing is the phenomenon of the game as the centre of multimedia/multiseries thing. Dead Space, Sands of Destruction, Halo, Code Age. They're out there, and IMO they're fascinating oddities of cross-media stuff grounded in the gaming world.
I remember about 45%ish into the main story, Lily and Adam just start bickering with no build up after being generally friendly and co-operative and it felt so forced. I was like “oh, I must be in the second act. I guess they’re gonna have to put their differences aside later huh.” Eve is also very blank slatey. 10/10 costumes and customization options, I especially enjoyed the different haircuts. I didn’t really have to master the combat until the 2nd to last boss. Went out of my way to get the true ending my first playthrough and was still left feeling like “that’s it?” Solid first entry into what I hope will be a series, considering there was a bit of sequel tease. Hoping SB2 improves off the framework this game introduced. Hoping for a real KH1 to KH2 style glow up for the sequel.
Stoked for the boss rush mode that came out coincidentally today.
Don't know why i did play it through 100% collectibles, nothing left blank, and hit 110 Hrs on all max out. May be those music and OSTs drove me through. Really love this game and now just start the game to kill the Netibas, try out new builds and of course, listen to very nice OSTs. ❤
Might be a little before your time but there was a French indi horror game called "Off" that was rather popular in places like Tumblr around 10-15 years ago. I remember it having a twist that was pretty interesting, despite not being super unique. It was also a really interesting game that has a great art style and creepy tone.
Thanks for doing this video, currently waiting for the pc release 🤣 to be fair, no one has covered the game properly- so im glad you have 😄
I just finished it tonight and I couldn’t agree more with the video. Watching your new game + part makes me wanna jump back in but yea the game tries to do so much with its plot and none of it is great. It’s hard when you see the base for characters/ideas are there but that’s about it and it could be so much more too.
Nier 2´s backstory is told in a theater production that got a light novel and manga. The anime´s flashback ep is based on it. It´s basically the same as this game´s opening. Crazy how close the game stuck to it´s inspiration.
It’s good to see you playing something that you enjoy!!!

Main takeaways I will take from this game is that at least the combat looks fun, EVE is an attractive character, the game goes back to some level of oldschool, the team stuck to their sexy main girl guns and the OST is a banger. However the plot is LITERALLY Nier Automata but diet, the characters HAVE good ideas but are executed poorly with the cast themselves being boring and there is no camera mode. Plus maybe it is just me but I am starting to miss my X, Zero and Axl cool male robot archetypes because yes I love hot robot waifus as much as the next guy but come on we have Nier Automata, NIKKE and now this. I know sex sells but at least back then we had way more then just sexy robot girls. Bright side, Austin mentioned Gundam so yay.

Absolutely love the game, on my second playthrough now. It's not perfect, but it's got heart.
41:50 man i felt the same way about the game, heard about the game like crazy, specially during the insane shitshow discourse that happened before and after the game launched, but end up never seeing like people posting clips of the game or gushing or talking over it in like a natural way you kinda see with big games. There were some reviews here and there but nothing more, aside from the one clip of a guy making Eve going up and down a ladder for reasons....
After watching the video, i'm genuine surprise with how fun the game looks, even with the cheese story, probably something i would look to get if i had a PS5. Amazing video as always.
It’s no way that you thought bilal was the first time we got a great action sequence throughout the game but overall good review.👍🏾
The 2nd Gigas fight took the most number of attempts for me as well
I dont have to but I just might platinum to show my support to the devs for making an AAA I actually wanted to see. Even if the story is beyond lackluster the gameplay, fanservice, music, customization and overall flow are enough for me

Speaking of tie-in books, a funny question comes to mind: Does "Black Myth: WuKong" count as "have a tie-in book to it"?
I constantly confused this with Bright Memory when it was being previewed.
Honestly the fact Bright Memory even came out is astonishing, let alone got finished and given out to those who bought the original. It was a one man development.
Austin, how did those glasses work out for you as someone who wears prescription glasses? Do you have to wear them over your frames? Is there an ability to focus?
This is the best Austin beard look
Eve: Screw friendships im into that Aquafina tincan.
Imma be honest despite all the controversy this is still the studio's first console game and not taking the most anti-consumer approach to making a game (micro-transactions, terrible launch where only shop works, hundreds of dollars worth of cosmetics on day one, passes, stalling player or any other common predatory measures to make money or keep people playing for too long) it takes a lot in the current gaming landscape to not implement any of those. I can understand why many may not be impressed by it with the many obvious flaws like how some mechanics are not progammed well enough or not used as much.
I love that you choose the perfect games to make these videos with. I know for a fact that I'm not going to be 100%'ing Stellar Blade anytime soon; but with this - I feel like I already have lol
Usually I'd agree, but this game was a weird choice for a video like this

My game of the year so far. I loved it to bits.
another 100% video. I love it.
I think this game does deserve a sequel. Maybe they could get some of the stuff they got wrong in this one, right
funny when i got to the end i didnt know there was a question that dictated the ending so i followed what two different playthroughs did and they both chose the bad end lol but idk with new game plus and me playing on easy i can get the good end if i want to i suck so bad at games so i still! struggled but this game was a joy and its worth completing if you like what you see 😏😉

The dev said because this game was their 1st console game so they commit 70% gameplay / 30% story and plan to improve story side when sequel comes out.
Great in-depth review! It's pretty unfortunate that they made great gameplay and music but fell short on the character and story.
8:46 it helps when the devs take advantage of the consoles. No xbox series AAA game has done that yet but several ps5 games have which obviously limits the amount of games that do.
It's interesting to me how 2023 was (aside from mass layoffs) one of the best years of gaming in years.
Fast forward a year later, 2024 ends up being one of the worst years in gaming so far, taking everything bad about 2023 and not learning from the good.
