I would recommend that you do NOT rest the top portion on it's plastic hinge ! This will be the 1st part to break! Especially with the pusher still in it. Ours unit cost 200.oo in Canada.

Unlatch the top component and remove the top. After that you should be able to just lift up the filter basket.
