    In BOTW and TOTK, you can find an answer to almost every puzzle immediately. However, with OOT, most puzzles have 1 answer that will be obvious once you have the right tool.

    A critical tip: Navi is your partner and is the key to many puzzle and quests. Whenever she flies somewhere it would be best lock on to whatever she is hovering by and then press the Navi button to get info.
    For example, you struggled figuring out how to get into darunia's room. The key was to notice that navi was hovering by the mat outside the door. If you had targeted that and called navi, she would have told you that the mat bears the emblem of the royal family of hyrule -- which I have no doubt would have led you to play the song on the mat which is what you had to do.
    I can't overstate how important this is. Also, the same thing can be done when you are targeting monsters. Noddy will provide the monster named as well as information on its potential weakness.

    7:20 - It's funny how in OoT the Hylian shield isn't all that special - you can even get a DISCOUNT on it when you talk to the Kakariko village guard first. Quite a change in later games where it's portrayed as super rare or one-of-a-kind item.
    20:10 - "So we've got Gorons, we've got the Gerudo, and the Zora... there's got to be Rito." So about that... various races in Zelda games have a tendency to pop in and out of existence to suite the developer's needs. BOTW shocked everyone by being the very first game to have Rito AND Zora both show up in the same game... for reasons Wind Waker will explain.
    1:31:20 - Korok puzzle? Definitely looks like it! While there are not koroks in OoT, this shape strongly suggest a secret is here. The problem is that, with these older games, you often need to loop through all your tools one-by-one to figure out what the puzzle wants - and this early in the game you probably don't even have the item it's looking for. It's the sort of game that could only exist at a time where kids could afford 1 game per year, so they would play that game obsessively. Or you had a fried who somehow knew all the secrets.

    • @nightrabbit4u
      @nightrabbit4u 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      you can also get the hylian shield for free in the graveyard if you know where to look. :)

    • @ItApproaches
      @ItApproaches 16 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Don't need to loop through your items, just need a couple brain cells and be able to use logic. The game gently points you in the right direction, a smidge of logic and you figure things out quickly. Even as an 8 year old back in the day with this on N64, outside of the water temple, not much in the game stumped me for more then 60 seconds.

      @jwk427 16 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@ItApproaches @ItApproaches When it comes to the main quest, I agree.
      But, I'm referring more to random secrets that require just looping through stuff.
      There's no subtle hint that tells you if a certain tree requires a bomb or an ocarina melody to reveal a hole. You just have to try stuff until one works.

    • @ItApproaches
      @ItApproaches 16 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@jwk427 There is no tree you bomb....but I get your point. But there was the item the "Shard" or something that alerted you to secrets nearby.

    • @jwk427
      @jwk427 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

       @ItApproaches Definitely useful... if you have a rumble pack ;) Since Scott is playing the 3Ds version, I think that won't be an issue.
      I'm fairly sure there are multiple secret holes next to trees that require using a bomb instead of the Song of Storms... including one hole that has a heart piece.
      But I could be wrong. I haven't played through OoT in years and memory is a fickle thing.

    The golden spider curse with the golden skulltulas are this games version of the korok seeds. When you see these spiders you need to destroy them and collect them. This is how you upgrade your money pouch and bags and other goodies they will exchange to you. It’s in your best interest to collect them. You missed one at the castle where you break all the jars. You rolled into the create and exposed it but didn’t destroy it. You just turned around and walked out. Go back and get that bad boy! A few hints, they appear only at night and make a very distinct spider sound. You got like 2-3 in the deku tree dungeon already. It doesn’t need to be at night if you’re in a dungeon or in like a specific room or like hole in the ground. There are 100 total but 50 is the magic number for sure to aspire to. Great job rolling and breaking the crates. Be sure to roll into the TREES too. Especially ones that seem to stand out and are by themselves usually. It will shake loose goodies out of the trees. Loving everything about this game so far! I’m jealous you’re experiencing this for the first time!

      Hello Scott, just remember that this is a linear game and before BotW/TotK so most times in this game, they will give you clues on where to go such like Impa told you to visit her village. Or if Navi says something it is usual a clue. This is with all old Zelda games. Collect the Golden Skulls for a good reward, better than getting all Koraks. When you have time, go back to the graveyard, you missed something where the Triforce was. Don’t feel bad with looking things up. Great video! Looking forward for the next one!

    20:17- sorry but the Rito don't evolve until windwaker, one of the sequels. I'm not at liberty discuss more in terms of fan theories and such and how it relates to the calamity games unless you are okay with spoilers. There is a lot of dispute as to where the past of tears of the kingdom falls on the timeline, in part, because of the Rito.
    21:41- just a heads up, you can outrun the skeletons. eventually new ones will spawn again, run around them and continue to outrun. If you like fighting them then that's cool, but I just find them annoying. Also if you are on dirt trails they won't span, just in the grass areas. there is also a mask you can borrow that prevents them from spawning but, meh, just outrun them.
    22:18- You: "we're going to the zora first" lol no you aren't. This is a linier game and can't do the zora section yet XD
    22:40: hey that's me! :) yes I am watching.
    On that note, I'm playing ocarina of time, master quest version on my channel right now(ocarina of time hard mode you could say) the dungeon layouts are different but the dungeon bosses and all the stuff in-between is the same, if you want to use it as a guild for those things (again though spoilers) feel free.
    Someone made a comment that Navi lights up during clues, often when that happens you can L-target and lock on and listen to what she has to say. I wanted to add to that. that there are certain parts of this game where she won't let you lock on. When that happens, you need to play a song. There will be no hint as to which of the songs, but you need to play one, so play all you know. Knowing that would have also helped you there.(although if she lights up and doesn't let you lock on, it's also not critical. That said always try to lock on to double check)
    also goron city and Zora's domain are probably the only two places that don't change at night.
    I am excited to see you keep going.

    Wow that shiekah stone is like a walkthrough... very cool if you get stuck. The visions weren't in the original game but a good quality of life improvement.
    Ah, they removed the Mario and Bowser easter eggs from the windows in Zelda's courtyard! Before there were little pics from Mario 64 in the windows. Nintendo quit doing that with Zelda games.
    This game is the origin of having... uh... "feminine" town builders. 😅 Bolson wearing tiger stripes references one of the builders here.

    While I enjoy seeing you figure out the puzzles and next steps on your own, I acknowledge that my first playthrough of OoT on the N64 made heavy use of a walkthrough. I probably would have figured out the main story and dungeon/temple puzzles on my own eventually, but there was no way I'd have known how to find all the gold skulltulas or the heart pieces without one. There's a lot of doubling back into areas you've already cleared, using different equipment or abilities you unlock as the game progresses. Also, there are a number of "extras" in this game that aren't really necessary, but knowing they exist and where/how to pursue them was a huge benefit of using a guide and enhanced my enjoyment of the game. I think a healthy balance of discovering things for yourself and soliciting advice or looking stuff up will almost be a necessary thing in this game. Happy adventuring!

    • @ItApproaches
      @ItApproaches 16 วันที่ผ่านมา

      You would have found them without a guide, you literally just play the game. Jus go everywhere in the day, and go everywhere at night. Though while there is 100 to get, only 50 is worth it which you get by the end of the game without even trying to hunt them all down.

    In OoT (at least in the N64) version, whenever you save and restart the game (at least in the over-world I think, I am not sure about if you save while inside the dungeons), it will load you back in Link’s house which means you will always have to back track back to where you were when you saved the game. So keep that in mind in your episode start.

    • @SideQuestStories
      @SideQuestStories 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Yeah saving in the overworld takes you back to your house and you may lose partial progress in scripted overworld sequences (like meeting Zelda). It's not a bug, it's intentional so you didn't miss out on the following cutscene.
      Saving in a dungeon brings you to the start of the dungeon but you keep progress like keys and item unlocks.

    One other bit of advice: as far as game play goes, don’t read too much into possible connections between this game and BOTW/TOTK. They’re fun Easter eggs, but don’t try to come to conclusions in this game based on things you know from the other two. For example, at one point you assume the Lost Woods is near the Deku Tree because that was the case in BOTW. Remember that Nintendo is not at all intentional when it utilizes common names/locations. Just like you realized playing TOTK compared to BOTW, think of this as a whole new game experience and try to forget what you know from BOTW/TOTK.

    I already can't wait for the next episode.
    It's so great seeing your reactions to these things that have become reoccurring themes across Zelda. As a long time Zelda lover, your seeing a bit of how it feels when we saw it in BotW.
    Make sure you are checking the Navi hint when she makes a sound. You can also use Navi when locked on an enemy or spot of interest and get more information. Pay attention to where she flys as it can often be a hint. Do all that and you should have no problem figuring the game out without using that Large Sheikah Stone you crawl into that gives you little video solutions. That was a new feature to the 3DS version of OoT.
    Many Zelda traditions started in OoT. Here are some tidbits:
    Yes, everything you said about BotW's great plateu ruins is right!!
    While Impa is mentioned in the story in the manuals, OoT is the first in-game appearance of Impa, and the Sheikah race.
    OoT is also the 2nd appearance of Kakariko Village.
    You asked about seeing the Rito. While they have yet to be imagined by the developers, OoT is actually the first appearance of the Greudo, Gorons, Kokori [...], and the Great Deku Tree. It is also the first appearance of "sea Zora" as a friendly race. There were "river Zora" enemies previously.
    Musical instruments with magical powers have been a thing since Zelda 1, but this is the first time there is a special "playing music" mechanic and learning songs.
    You talked about other things that felt familiar, but we'll come to that later. 😊

    • @Seabasstard22
      @Seabasstard22 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Actuallyyyy 🤓 the ruins at the base of the three mini temples below the temple of time (the three ruined buildings have a digit of the three triforce goddesses on the flooring) are not the same ruins you see in ocarina of time. Several times it’s mentioned in Breath of The Wild that EACH calamity, meaning MULTIPLE calamities happened at the malice covered “hands” of Calamity Ganon EVERY ten thousand years. Meaning each Easter egg or reference to OoT like the Ranch Ruins and the Dage ruins, and the Temple of Time are simply just. The ruins of BoTW era were only 100 years old and you can see how much damage time and nature has done to it -35:36 bless you you - you can deduce with common sense that the ruins of great plateau are NOT from Ocarina of Time
