Got the Terra burn orange colored one it’s a beast of a drive and we love it!!!! Only thing is if you really want it for tons of off-roading it will need a lift just for that clearance. Other than that she is a beautiful machine!
The 3 orange lights are not a DOT requirement, they are for show. All Sequoia's are the same width. If they ere a requirement they would be on all Sequoia versions.
Fair! the DOT and FMVSS 108 standards require work vehicles with 80in. width of the widest part of the vehicle, excluding mirrors or accessories, the amber lights. The Sequoia is 79.6 inches so it’s .4 inches less than the requirement making it not required and for show, it closer matches the styling of TRX or Raptor with the indicators.
Actually I just learned something new looking it up so thank you for asking! The requirement not only focuses on the width but the use of the vehicle. Because those and the Sequoia are considered light duty passenger vehicles and not trucks or commercial vehicles intending to haul things they are exempt from the amber lights. Even going over the 80 in. rule, since it classifies as an SUV it’s not required to have them with the current laws. I didn’t know this before! They are 100% for show.
Wish this had a normal v6 twin turbo (non hybrid) variant. I just want a big good looking family car with hauling and dirt capable. This is the best looking suv on its class imo.
What’s the customer for this type of truck do you think? Is it hard to find a niche in 2024 for a 20mpg pavement pounding people mover? Average overall fuel economy is usually on the eco submenu on the left hand of the gauge cluster. Measures until you reset it.
I’ll have to dig in and find it! Ideally for me it’s a family moving machine. We’ve taken it on multiple road-trips with 7 people loaded in and it’s been excellent. We loaded the roof rack with bags in a hauler. Plus it beats out a minivan.
Sadly not from Toyota! I imagine these days fuel tank options are going to become more and more rare with OEMs as dealing with the compliance and weight differences when getting the car approved for roll-over and everything has to typically be with each variation like that. The curb weight changes with fuel tank sizes which could drive tire pressure differences, tow limits, etc, so nope.
Toyota is living off its reputation from the early 2000's, which was their clear peak for reliability vs power. Their new vehicles look cool, but are far less reliable, and have switched their bullet proof interiors for garbage plastic crap. While this is clearly working for their sales numbers, that only proves that most people buying the vehicles care more about how they look rather than how they perform. But if you never touch dirt, it makes sense. If you actually want the adventure life, buy a 1st gen, lift it, and spend the $70k you saved on adventuring for the next two years.
Also likely the people buying them new now will not keep them much past 100k miles as when you can afford new cars, you typically just keep bunnyhopping. I know many people buy for life but I bet the average new Toyota buyer sells it before 100k so Toyota doesn’t have to target the bulletproof first gen’s. Sad but that’s where our reality seems to be right now. Love the idea though of save the money and go travel!
Nope! Just can’t cover anything but happy to answer questions! The max space is 86.9 cubic feet when the rear seats are flipped down, but you do have a smaller area in general due to the hybrid battery pushing the seats higher. We’ve road tripped with all 7 seats up and had to use a roof bag to hold the suitcases. The little shelf in the back is a bit annoying but as you saw it does give you some compartmented storage for a few extra items under it.
Wish Toyota would stop making all these different trim levels on each model vehicle. Why have a limited/capstone, yaris when you have a corolla hatchback. STOP WITH ALL THESE TRIMS AND FOCUS ON A BETTER HYBRID MOTOR THAT GIVE BETTER FUEL ECONOMY ON YOUR LARGER VEHICLES!! and sorry, but $83k for a sequoia is ridiculous!!
Very fair! The reason marketing pushing for these model variations is in an effort to “lily pad” you to spending more. You have the base trim, but then have to pay to install an extra feature like leather seats, speakers. The next trim up adds some of those features, but then is missing a few others so you can add as a package or consider the next trim. For manufacturing we prefer simplicity and want less colors and trims, but marketing wants these steps for the sales factor so it’s a balance. But fair, price is a lot, there is just strong enough market demand in that price range to keep them selling.
He 'doubts the hybrid will have durability and reliability'. I like this guy but only the naive or uninformed would say this. If anything, the Toyota hybrids will have better durability and reliability than gas-only vehicles.
That’s a hot take! The 2UZ-FE is an extremely overbuilt and great engine that people love, it’s gone now and the next gen V8 was not as great but I’d be skeptical to say there will be as many high mileage hybrids as the older Sequoias with the V8s. www.motortrend.com/features/million-mile-tundra-the-tear-down/ They make these engines down in Alabama and I’ve talked to people there, the engineering specs to manufacture the new V6’s are extremely tight. How they are shimmed is critical to prevent premature failure and they are not as forgiving to debris which part of the reason Toyota already had the big recall on the non-hybrid V6s. I will be happy to be wrong if we see these hybrid powertrains last for years though!
Saying that a new hybrid powertrain might not be as reliable as the old engine isn't that hot of a take.. It's just the basic truth about ANYTHING that's new. It hasn't been proven out yet. Not to mention, anytime you add more components to a system, such as a hybrid powertrain, you create more possible failure points.
lol I can’t imagine what you’d call actual trash, but with Toyota being the number one automotive company globally in sales for several years, statistically most people would disagree.
@@PhilipBlank dude that thing has a ton of cheap plastic inside and. That center console is trash and the plastic around the window switches are trash. The grill is plastic crap. The chevy is better in every way and that's a fact jack.
I’ve seen a few of these on the roads in California and man they look good. Definitely a good design from Toyota, let’s hope longevity holds!
They’re sharp really across all the trims! I’ll like to see how people kit them out for over landing, but gonna be $100k+ units

That’s great! I agree, it’s almost off road ready but a great drive!
Great review
Thanks mate!

I love it
❤❤😊😊
As do I haha
This looks so cool
It’s a great looking vehicle!
That’s a nice Toyota!
I agree!
We want an offroading in the Sequoia video next!
That’d be great haha

That would be great though they are probably trying to keep their overall fleet MPG up and pushing the hybrid tech.
is there an issue with the Hybrid?
imma buy this car
That wouldn’t be a bad idea!

Someone who can burn $83k and if you live in NY pay luxury tax on a Toyota. Really love this truck, but I'm not spending $83k no wayyyyy
I need one😢😢
I could use two!
Is there an option for a bigger gas tank??
