  • Blender's EEVEE render engine delivers incredibly fast performance compared to Cycles, but it's still far from instant. In this video, I'll show you how I reduced the render time of an EEVEE animation by 85% compared to typical EEVEE settings. If you've always wanted to know how to speed up EEVEE, this is the video for you.
    N.B This is a beginner-level guide showing you how to tweak EEVEE to get the best render times with the smallest impact on overall quality. If you already know your way around EEVEE or image quality is a huge dealbreaker, then this tutorial might not be for you.

    Oh man. You really came in clutch here. I was rendering animations fine before but I guess I changed some settings without realizing it and it was taking me like 2 hours to render only 200 frames so I was desperate for ways to reduce the time I had to wait. I for some reason had my render sampling set to 500 so I reduced it to 8 since I don't really use textures. This REAAALLLLY helped.

    Nice tips. I didn't know about the extra reflections options, and I'm just now using screen space reflections in an anim, so I'll give it a go! :] Can I also mention that the Simplify also has extra options - by default still only limits the sub divs to 6, which I think is actually ridiculous. Who ever uses more than 6 anyway!? So, as well as checking Simplify, you should also be sure to go in and set the max subs to 1, or 0 if you really need to see decent frame rate in the viewport playback. Cheers :]

    You can also open 2 instances of Blender and render with two instances. This will speed up the rendering by round about 70%. ;-)
    I use 2 GPU 980Ti and fire up 4 instances. Now I render about 9 Frames per minute instead of 2 frames per minute on 1 instance and on one GPU.
    Instance 1: Startframe 1, Step4
    Instance 2: Startframe 2, Step4
    Instance 3: Startframe 3, Step4
    Instance 4: Startframe 4, Step4

      This help a lot ! thanks... On a CPU intensive scene I had gain up to 4 instance on a single GPU. Looks like the GPU was waiting most of the time. But there may be a kind of bug in blender too. If I render this scene in 4K it take 7sec per frame. If I render it with the view port render option I get about 2 fps and the GPU is fully loaded. It is somewhat 14 time faster It's also 4K and the final quality is almost identical. Still the render time is so much faster that It seem to make no sense. As far as I know there is no additional modifier applied when rendering. It use the exact same geometry. So...
      Maybe the GPU throttling function is too strong. There is a system that prevent loading the GPU at 100% because it can slow down the display so much that it's impossible to use the computer. Maybe this part is slowing down the render more than necessary.

    You could shorten the total render time by 50% by making the animation 12fps and then use advanced retiming tools in video editing software such as Resolve to bring it back to 24fps. That should work very well with scenes like this that have no fast movement.

    Maybe someday we can get an actual real-time rendering with eevee, it frustrates me that it so close to it, and yet it isn't. You can move around light sources, characters, display PBR materials, display basic transparency but eevee can't fake decent looking shadows in real-time with renderder design to fake everything and not be physically accurate. Just imagine how much speed up that would be for all animators, especially with low-end computers.

    But we should adjust viewport samples,subsurf and other setting equal to rendering ,best thing is that there is no difference in terms of quality in viewport render and normal render but however it works excellently perfect,just give it a try,i dont know why viewport rendering is so quick without losing quality but however its almost 300% faster in higher resolution

    Rendering from command line might get faster results too. It certainly does in cycles, but never tried it with Eevee.
    Using a Linux OS should help too.
    Also, inside the simplify menu, there's a section for the render settings, getting the max subdivision to 1 or 2 can get a nice speedup, and would not be noticeable unless the camera goes near a subdivided object.

    If you are rendering a previz, maybe a personal project or if you are editing your project in advanced to see where it can be improved and in most of the cases...mainly if you don't have enough computer power, -or making Minecraft animation, if that's even a thing - than yep, this is the way to go. But I wouldn't recommend it for professional-final-delivery projects.
    Yes, there are clients that are more than happy to receive a 1080p render with this quality (mostly for archviz I guess).
    Still if you want to hold a professional portfolio or get the attention of big clients - or even stand out on your company, impress your boss, whatever - than upping pretty much everything you just mentioned is the way to go

    • @DECODEDVFX
      @DECODEDVFX  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're absolutely right. I wouldn't recommend anyone use these tips for professional work. But I assume that anyone doing client work probably understands the impact of samples and resolutions on render times. This video is aimed at beginners who are just getting into rendering videos in EEVEE. I keep seeing newbies posting really short animations with comments saying "this took 8 hours to render" or whatever, despite the fact it was fairly simple and rendered in EEVEE.
      If you're just making person videos for fun or practice, there's no reason to not lower the sample count etc when possible.
      I've seen some of your videos before, by the way. You make cool stuff.

    this can be infulenced even by modifiers, i was animating a car which had a level 5 subdivision, an animated shape key and also a boolean. with the boolean on it rendered a frame for 2min, without it, 8 sec. lowering the subd level probably helps too lol

    I did a 720p render with 200 samples and thought that samples were still less! Coz my laptop is entry level, it took 11 hrs to render 360 frames in eevee

    • @DECODEDVFX
      @DECODEDVFX  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      There's really no need to use 200 samples with EEVEE. The default setting of 60 is usually more than enough.

    i have set 8samples, 480p quality, and it renders 50seconds
    and my GTX 1060 is overclocked to max

    I dont think that enabling Simplify exactly increases render time unless your model has Subidivision modififer or met the Sub category that it has under Simplify.

    • @DECODEDVFX
      @DECODEDVFX  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Simplify helps more with viewport performance than rendering times.

    So the Upscaling part. Are you still trying to make the video, or did you forget to upload it? Sometimes, I face the same thing with my vids.

    As a guitarist I feel the need to point out that the guitar stand is a bit off, especially the way it holds the guitar. It should support the headstock. Thanks for the video anyway.

    • @DECODEDVFX
      @DECODEDVFX  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The guitar isn't hanging from the headstock. It's resting on two lower arms. The top arms around the neck just stop it from falling over. It's a copy of a stand I used to own.

      @@DECODEDVFX you're definitely right! I didn't see the arms. Mea culpa
