The audience is singing their own "lyrics" to the instrumental that is being played. You know you have made it when the audience creates the singing part to your instrumental. Alex Lifeson is one of the greatest lead guitarists of all time and greatly underrated. Geddy Lee is the bassist and also plays keyboard and can play the keys (on the floor pedals while playing the base and singing), Neil Peart on drums ( sounds like EAR with a P and a T) is THE PROFESSOR (RIP). Go down this rabbit hole of 40 years of music.. you won't be disappointed and the Rush Army will show up in force if you do (your subs will definitely go up). They don't have any bad music though I'm partial to the 70's and early 80's. I can't even recommend the next listen for you as you can't make a bad choice, IMO. I do have my favorites (some of which you aren't ready for tho). :) They do more than one instrumental... yes.

Neil actually did not catch the drumstick (to see it, you have to search for the yyz Rio isolated drums) however, he recovered in style. He was notorious for not catching the stick toss up. Shit- of all things, that would be the one that matters least. I've seen Rush about 20 times or so, and saw The Professor miss catching the stick a dozen times. Since he is the definition of perfection, I feel he did it on purpose... If you're digging his drumming, check out Peart with the Buddy Rich band: Cottontail 1994. Great reaction by the way...

As mentioned before, this song is a reference to Toronto Pearson International Airport (Y-Y-Zed) and according to Geddy Lee was a song about the struggles of leaving home for a tour, but the joy of the tour, and the gratefulness of returning to their home via YYZ, and getting a chance at normal life, for a brief period, before heading back out of YYZ, which is why the song is so up, down, up, deep down, and super up again.

Many Rush albums contained an instrumental track, and more than one are fan favorites. Check out La Villa Strangiato for another epic - no words, but it’s based on the nightmares of the guitarist, Alex Lifeson. Cheers! th-cam.com/video/eK1hmDpa8bo/w-d-xo.html

Nice reaction. Audience is singing the melody no actual words. Rush has crazy skills. They could challenge anyone with their skills and talent. Their drummer who past away is thought to be one of the greatest ever. Rush has a lot of great songs. But that concert in Rio was off the hook. That's the kinda crowd I love at a show.

Great review! So, about how crazy that crowd all got. This is RIO and Rio had a rep for great crowds. Sure, people love RUSH but this was 20 years after this song came out in a band whose members were well into their 50’s. HOWEVER, this was in 2005 and wasn’t long after GUITAR HERO II came out!! Getting through YYZ was the pinnacle of success in the game! So they were freeken out partially because THIS WAS THEIR FAVORITE GAME BEING ACED BY THE VERY BAND RIGHT THERE IN PERSON! Not in their bedrooms, not in the basements or rec rooms, THIS WAS RUSH!!
Wish I could go back and go there just for this concert.

Rush has many great songs. Many consider them one of the best of all time, as do I. This is off the 1981 album moving Pictures. Tom Sawyer, Limelight, The camera Eye are some from that album. The Camera Eye is my favorite. Neil Peart, the drummer, sadly passed away due to brain cancer on January 7, 2020. He is greatly missed by many. He was also the band's lyricist. Rock with Rush.

This was a magical moment in music. I saw RUSH in concert several times, but this was different because RUSH did only the 3 shows in SOUTH AMERICA and the fans were so amped up that they actually started chanting/singing along to YYZ, which is simply incredible since YYZ is an instrumental song only...just one of the great moments in music and you gotta love it!! Keep smiling 🤘 🙂
