    My friend met him while doing a art handling long-haul trucking gig. They picked up from his house and he was super gregarious and took them out to lunch at a diner. Word had it that he liked to have meetings with Larry where they just walked around Wal-mart.

    • @AnInterest
      @AnInterest  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes! In the documentary Dear Cy, Larry talks about one time they went to Walmart together in hopes of looking at what Cy called “the most beautiful girl in the world,” so Gagosian and Twombly go to Walmart and the girl is off that day… imagine being that girl and never knowing that even happened. So wild.

    I saw a room of Twomblys at the Philadelphia Museum of Art and it took my breath away . It took me a long time to appreciate his work but seeing the room in Philadelpia made it understandable . I feel his work is EPIC .

    Chill delivery on great material. I also had that feeling of "oh this is what art could be", but with Sigmar Polke. I call it my second puberty, because he left me confused, a little desperate and ultimately changed. Thanks for the channel!

    Thank you for the honest discussion of Twombly and Rauschenberg's relationship and the depth of feeling that pervaded their work.

    Love this. Thank you so much. I was also born in Virginia, also a taurus, and a painter/musician. Cy Twombly has been a huge influence on me.

    This video is a fresh of breath air, seems a lot of video essays end up becoming this Wikipedia skimming fact bubbles that don't really say anything, i like how passionate you are about the topic and how you add an anecdotal layer that helps really explore a different perspective to cy twombly's art. The whole video is also laid back and chill, and I like the under editing, it just feels like the perfect kind of video for these times where everyone is trying to out best everyone else in the attention market.

    Thanks for sharing some information on Cy Twombly, and your personal perception on his oeuvre. It is not easy to look at an abstraction and comprehend what the artist expresses through his art. It is a must to do some profound research, to capture the artist’s ideas, and from that premise you can decide wether the paintings motivate or not.

    I went to the Twombly exhibit at the Getty last year. They really concentrated on his life in Rome and I got this whole vibe of Marcello Mastroianni with some paint supplies. You've given me a lot more valuable info, so thanks for that. The friend I took with me to the exhibit really hated it, but I have adored his work since I first saw his weirdly brilliant red scribbles years ago. Yeah, abstract does not appeal to most people, and someone who does not understand the brilliance of a Twombly piece could easily say something like "my 7 year old can do that" - uh, no lady, buy your 7 year old the supplies and see how wrong you are. I find when I create something (often abstract) I have to not care if anyone likes or "gets" it at all..... it makes creating so much more enjoyable. And since I have the great luxury of not HAVING to sell my work I feel like the luckiest person on the planet every time I go into my studio. PS - you've got a new subscriber in me. I look forward to more videos.

      Yes I also went to that exhibit. It was interesting, it definitely felt like a very LA curation with the Horst images plastered all over the wall, but they know their audience I suppose. Thank you so so much for watching and for this thoughtful comment 🙏

    I loved the story about Bob saved by Cy at Black Mountain reported by Creely & Olson. Cy is a giant to me, his reaching into history & picking it up off the street. Thank you so much.

    Brilliant video, it's hard to find high quality art anaylsis from genuine people on TH-cam. The image of Twombly being so venusian you could imagine flowers grew at his feet with every step is perfect and will stick with me for a while.

    I just listened to an interview with the Menil and even they said that he would not be videotaped for their purposes, he would only allow his voice to be recorded. He rarely ever gave any interviews at all. His comments about his own work were also full of false trails. Even Cy Dear has next to nothing and these were the people who knew him most and were part of his life. Any comments around him can only be framed in this context and only really take us around the periphery, which is clearly what he wanted.

    People that say: "My children could do it." Has No Idea about art... Because in that Kind of abstract-paintings is the whole life-experience included. Someone who has No Idea about Art dont see it. Its Kind of a Hidden Expression that a Child is probably Not available Off.
    The only Thing that irritated me was that His Most expensive painting is Something a Grafitti Artist from sweden did before but with Spray-Paint. (Nug swedens most famous vandal)
    Thank you for sharing your infos about their private life.
