    As a previous WRX owner, just a word to all the haters.... If you're looking for Looks, get a BRZ or Challenger. If you're looking for horsepower, get a Mustang or used Corvette. If you're looking for a truly complete all around quick, AWD, quality, rare and fun car, get a WRX. Its not for show, its not for Wow's or Ahhh's, its not to rev loudly at a car show just to get people to look at you.......its to enjoy outside the norm.

    • @opmike343
      @opmike343 10 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      You want Subaru to give him money? To review their products? What do you think that would do for impartiality? TH-camr get money through third party advertisements, as it should be.

    • @TheGetawayer
      @TheGetawayer 10 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      opmike343 : Not, I want them to invite subaruwrxfan to their launch events and to give him a long term testcar ! He has given them so much press for free with all his reviews, over 60 weekly updates about the BRZ ownership experience and apart from that : He really likes their cars. So that's why I think they should take notice and supply testcars :)

      They don't like the look because it doesn't have a 15 foot spoiler and it's not a hatch. Also, they can't afford it so they hate it.

    • @TwoMilky
      @TwoMilky 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      ***** Nah, that's not why. No previous WRX has had a rear wing of any mentionable size to my knowledge, and the cars themselves are like a poor man's sports car (that's by no means taking anything from the car, it's nice that it's cheap). It's an easily attainable vehicle if you have a job that pays more than minimum wage, lol.
      It's just the worst looking generation of Impreza since the bugeye, in my own opinion. Simple as that.

    Ive been a WRX fan for a while, id always go test drive them but never owned one, after driving the 15 WRX i fell in love and bought it on the spot. It is the most fun car ive ever drove and is the perfect daily driver, it has perfect interior and ive been averaging around 26mpg and i drive very aggressively. All i gotta say is pictures dont do the car justice and my hat goes off to subaru

      Did you get the WRX or STI? I've had my sights set on an STI for years now but this WRX has been improved so much that I'm kind of gearing towards that instead. It's gonna be a daily driven car that will see some track time. Not a lot though. And for the price difference I'm thinking WRX. I'm stuck.

    • @neemguy81
      @neemguy81 10 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I bought the regular WRX. I didn't even test drive the STi cause I didn't want something that would draw too much attention. And the cost. The daily driver ride in this is stiff but fairly comfortable, and the low-high rpm powerband is outstanding. I wouldn't get the limited because you may slide out of the leather seats on some twisty road. This thing stays FLAT on the curves and inspires confidence accelerating out of them. I got the cloth seat Premium with HarmonKardon/nav system. Basically there is no need to mod this car until the warrenty/payments are done. It simply is awesome.

    • @ajvangorden1344
      @ajvangorden1344 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm aiming to hit at least 350 whp. I want something quick. But I'm not talking trying to pull some ridiculous power numbers out of it. I'm pretty sure the WRX would be able to handle it. Plus I won't be buying for another year or 2. Gonna chunk down my current car payment and save up some cash first so I can have a lower payment so by then I'll have a better idea of the aftermarket support for it.
      But from what everyone is saying, if you aren't looking for a straight up race car and want something to drive daily it's probably better to get the WRX.

    Every time I watch a car review I always just see people bitching about the negatives of the car, and never looking at the positives. It amazes me honestly... In regards to the 2015 WRX I really like it. I find the seat in the WRX far more comfortable than in the BRZ. I'm a bigger man so the larger seat is perfect. Where as on the BRZ it was actually uncomfortable. Great review Matt!

  • @Trades46
    @Trades46 10 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    I think the progressiveness of the FA20 DIT engine is the advantage vs. the old EJ25. The lack of turbo lag & noise suppression is on another level. I still believe Subaru made a mistake for not putting the FA20 (or a possible FA25) for the STI.
    However, for ~$30k fun & practicality considered, the WRX is a good choice. I actually prefer the new WRX > STI. This WRX feels like a complete revamp, whereas the STI is the same old mechanicals underneath a freshened body.

    drove a 2015 WRX yesterday. incredible. they are trying to make me a super deal on it as it's a 2015 and they are trying to clear it out for all the 2016s. going back Friday to close the deal. I've had a Porsche 944T , Mustang GT, and golf GTI over the years.. this car impressed me . I was at Subaru to test drive the Outbacks, but looks like I'm going to end up with a WRX. hahahahaha!! nice review.

    Ultimately, alot of people don't like the looks of the car, which I'm in the middle about. But to me, as I spend a lot of time on the track AND driving long distances highway, I wanted something with versatility, performance, and longevity, which this car brings to the table. I loved the versatility and the WRX def brings the performance aspect. In reality, the car needs to be driven to understand whats going on to see how you feel rather than a basis on looks. Great vid man. Keep it up.

      Idk it just seems weird. Don't get wrong cvt's are great for fuel saving but they love to wine a lot lol. who know's maybe the cvt will be good in the wrx hell the lancer rally art has a dsg in it totally different from a cvt i know but it's still a success

    • @GritsNDesu
      @GritsNDesu 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thomas Devito Well from a business standpoint, if you have the tech already developed, you may as well offer it in as many cars as you can to try to get as many buyers as possible. It'd be different if they went CVT only.

    This pretty much cemented my plan to go with the WRX instead of STI. The WRX has improved so much and for about a 8-9 grand difference I can add the power and the Brembo brakes. I think this new WRX is probably one of the best sporty cars in its price/performance range. Great review.

    Owned a previous gen WRX, and a BRZ and just picked up my 2015 WRX this week. Your review echos most of my thoughts and opinions on the car almost exactly. Handling, suspension, engine, interior, etc are vastly improved over the previous gen WRX. BRZ has better steering feel and is overall a little more fun to drive (light and RWD is a hard combo to beat), but the new WRX is tons of fun too and has so much more power than the BRZ. The 2015 WRX is so practical too with the spacious backseat and trunk and the new engine which is going to get better MPG and yet feel faster at the same time. Thanks Matt!

      I prefer coupe's the most (22B). The hatches are ugly as shit, but that's just my opinion, and this is definitely a Sedan. I'm glad they did away with the hatch because I won't have the same trouble I had finding a Sedan with everyhting I wanted like I did on my 2014.. Everywhere i looked had 9 hatches on the lot and no Sedans.

      The hatchback from 2008 and after is one of the ugliest versions ever made. I don't understand why people call this 2015 car ugly and yet pine after the hatchback as if it's a looker.
      What I really don't understand are Subaru fans in general. I remember when the bugeye was lambasted for it's ridiculous appearance and now it's one of the most-loved styles in Subie's lineup. I guarantee in a few years this will find it's way into the hearts of Subaru fans. Reviews are showing that it's at least a better ENGINEERED car than it's predecessors.

    Butt hurt previous model owners get over it, this is just a nicer looking and better car. I personaly wish they made a hatch first . This already doing better in sales. Old one was cool but ugly as sin, with a shitty chassis and crappy interior. This is sweet and it looks naturally muscular and not Ricey.

      There's the truth of it. Looks are subjective, but you can't argue that the motor is better along with the chassis and interior. Plus it costs the same as the 2014! The only real reason to have a 2014 is if you want a hatchback.

      jay czyzyk You're an idiot. When in my comments did I say ANYTHING about the WRX's performance?
      I don't need to test drive a car to give feedback on it's looks. I'll never buy a Subaru that looks bad like this one. I'd take a last generation WRX/STi with lower performance figures that actually looks like an awesome car over this thing that looks absolutely dreadful.

      It is too windy and weak. Looks nice, drives good enough but not for the Northeast U.S. or other places where it snows or rains all the time. But, the prices are good, and they are in fact reliable, plus customer service is awesome. 05 STIs are going for what 2009-2011 SIs are. Perfect commuter car, terrible car for the enthusiast. Just my take.

      Hans Blitz I have a 2008 Civic and live in Quebec and I've never got stuck in snow. It's surprisingly very good in snow situations, no problems driving it in one feet of snow. Good tires will do wonders. Don't know about the SI. One thing is certain, I would never buy a SI, way more interesting vehicules for 30k then a buffed up Civic.

      In "ONE FOOT" You mean after it is plowed I hope.
      AWD is just superior for that, but then again no AWD is going to get 36mpg on the highway either.
      But yes, $30k is just too damn much. It is too much for any FWD 4 banger without a turbo.

      That is pretty damn good. The 09 I had wouldn't do that, highway was okay, around 26mpg, almost as advertized, but city driving sucked, it was definitely less than the advertised 20mpg. I didn't give a damn though, that sound was better than any boring fwd gas sipper.

    • @jacobkirkbride1581
      @jacobkirkbride1581 10 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      Well lets face it there are no WRX's that don't fit that statement... They are all small cars with cheap interiors. I have a 2014 WRX Premium which is the most aggressive all around body style and let's face it to everybody else it looks like an Elantra with a a hood scoop, because people who don't know cars don't know cars. Everyone likes to say this car looks bad and the old ones are better.... The old ones looked a lot more plain and basic. Until the 2011 and up. I hated these at first but now I get it. I really like them, I still prefer my 2014 because of the unequal length headers and the older style bucket seats. But this is by far the best WRX so far as far as performance and handling, which is why you buy the car... Not because it has certain headlights.

      Jacob Kirkbride Same here, when i first saw the 2015 i was so disappointed. But the more of it i see, the more i like it. and the more i hear about the specs the easier it is to get over the way it looks. Can't wait to finish paying off my 05 so i can get rid of it and pick up one of these.

    • @jacobkirkbride1581
      @jacobkirkbride1581 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Clezzykrunk liking something is subjective. 98-07 are all plain jane clean lines with a little hood scoop. Less performance and lower quality interiors. Is there a certain nostalgia towards them? Hell yeah. Are they classic and cool yes. But I would never trade my 2014 for a bug eye or a blob eye or a hawk eye or anything worth less money with less performance with cheaper interior. The thing about liking cars is that you can like whatever you want for whatever reasons you want. I'd buy an old one to actually rallycross or autocross with but that would be it. I see somebody with one I wave and I appreciate it. But it's not a better car.

    Awesome review Matt! I know a lot of people don't like this car but I love it. The styling reminds me of the late 90s Impreza (my favorite) and obviously the combination of performance, price, and refinement is outstanding. I think the naysayers need to look at this car again. It's going to be very hard to choose between this and the BRZ when I'm ready to buy.

    The benchmark for interiors in this class is the Volkswagen GTI, but there really isn't any point in mentioning it because no other company even comes close, and it doesn't look like that is going to change anytime soon. Although, I do have to give this iteration of the WRX props on being vastly improved in that department. I think this is the most polished one yet, and I will definitely be considering one next time I go car shopping.

To each their own. I love my sti and only 1000 made and paid only sticker. The interior with the alcantra leather is plush and comfortable. The dash has real carbon fiber trim. Not cheap looking at all.

    Just picked up my 15 wrx limited. love the interior, love the seats, love everything about it...... except the following:
    1. climate control is kind of confusing at first.
    2, not a huge fan of the rims the wrx comes with (sti's rims are nice)
    3. the center armrest is way too low (not sure if the center arm ext with make it feel better)
    4. all weather floor mat does not cover the entire floor
    5. the back up camera is off to the left instead of straight center
    6. the side mirror adjust thing inside of the car still feels cheap
    7. the sun visor feels cheap.
    with that being said. the 15 wrx is .... still a beast. ill get over the cons... eventually.
