Out of my budget, the mpg is just a little bit better on a WRX, and I'm not a huge fan of the spoilers on the sedan STI's. I still like the STI :) However, a WRX will just work better for me :)
Sean Winterton Yeah I understand that. I want a STI but it's way to expensive so I'll be going with the WRX. I kinda want the wing though, STI is one of the few cars I don't mind the wing on.
Yeah the wing really isn't THAT bad! I used to think it was wayyyy too much, but I recently looked at a few STIs at three different dealerships, and they're not bad :) Haha, I'm not saying I LOVE them, but i wouldn't mind one if I ever got an STI sedan :)
Hey not trying to sound like an ass, but has your engine blown up? or is it still doing well? I might buy a 14 wrx but I hear there is a catastrophic engine issue
Bought one of these 2 weeks ago and I'm in love with it. I tested the 2019 model and it was just horrible. Went into the market in search for a 2013 WRX in WR Blue and got one in perfect condition. I'm always driving now and find any excuse to drive it. Seats are comfy, the boxer rumble, the flutter from the waste gate when the boost kicks in.....All I can say is wow....and it will probably be my last manual car by the looks of things....tech is just advancing too fast and DSG is tacking over
Have you ran any issue with your car? Do you still own that 2013 WRX? I heard they had some defects on the 2013-2014 WRX causing to have some Engine fail. I'm in the market trying to look for this Hatchback and I found my most desired color and trim line, but I'm hesitant on buying it now.
Can't let automatics take over! I don't care if it's faster, more efficient, makes people who can't drive a manual feel better about themselves, etc. I'm driving a stick no matter what!
It feels lighter on its feet than the STI because the gearing is longer in the WRX. The 0-60 is faster in the WRX than the STI. WRX:5.0 sec STI:5.2 sec
That is literally the opposite effect of having longer gearing. I love how people get hung up on 0-60 times. So the STI is faster 0-56...... think about that sheeple
paul smith I drive mostly city miles, and my general average is currently 19.2 MPG. You think you'll drive economically all the time, but then you get a nice stretch of open road...
Just bought myself a 2014 WRX Premium this weekend. Over an Si and ST that I was looking at. Si and ST had better interiors and more technology. But that Subaru sound and feeling is just.... hard to explain haha. You have to drive one!
subaruwrxfan this is my old car, this car has RCE front and rear sways, KB endlinks, SPT exhaust, and STi 5 speed shift knob. I'm glad you liked it, these cars roll terribly on stock suspension, those modifications make this handle ten times better.
I miss my WRX. Traded my 06 in a few months ago after owning it for 8 years. It hurt to do it but I had to. Luckily we replaced my wife's failing 03 wagon this weekend for a new 2015! I'm back! Ha ha!
Terrific review as usual, I love how in depth you get and all the info you provide. I would definitely pick the WRX over the Focus ST or the Honda Civic Si. The all wheel drive is what wins me over. On a side not that exhaust sounded amazing!!
Skyhunter I've the same problems. I've dreaming about the the STI version for such a long time now. But with the high price and high insurance, I need to win the lottery before I can afford it. Lol
2010 stage 2 Perrin WRX, with sway bars, end links, short shifter and lighter wheels, here. It is the narrow body but it weighs 34 pounds less than the wide body. She is less pretty, but she has it where it counts. It still gives me a big smile every day, and I don’t want to let it go.
I just bought a 2013 WRX off Craigslist a few months ago and I love it. Idk why I’m watching these, I guess I wanted to see peoples take on it back when it was brand new. Cus on Reddit I’ve seen a lot of people saying these years were meh, but idk I think it’s perfect. It was the newest model when I was in high school and I’m 24 now, bought it for 10k. I think it’s a steal for what it is
theres a reason i've pretty much watched all your videos, once again awesome job I'm in the market for a subie and i decided to go 2011 WRX like you said and from what i found, for the price its incredible 24-26k turbo charged all wheel drive and that amazing boxer note just sings. to me it doesn't make sense to go used 04-06 wrx only for the shell but to find one with decent milage and good condition its about the same as a brand new WRX. i think subaru really has a winner with the splitting of the platform to really give people a reason to get something else than a FRS or BRZ with a turbo stock.
I just bought a 2014 WRX Hatchback base in white, I love it and thank you for the review, it helped me in my car buying decision! This is probably the 10th time I've watched this video, now I can experience it myself :)
Good for you... long as your payments are low. Those things will kill ya. I'm 70 and have only bought used for decades. Carmax has done well for me, though some don't like them. I have a 2013 FRS I bought there, and see they have a nice 2013 WRX hatch just calling to me. :D
Good review overall. I own a blue '12 wrx with aftermarket exhaust, cold air intake, and performance chip and I absolutely love it. This guy is just like me when he gets on it: can't stop smiling! 😁 There are a couple minor inaccuracies: the side badges are plastic not metal although they DO look like they are metal, and the interior plastic on the doors is solid colored plastic resin NOT painted plastic although the plastic surrounding the stereo is painted. This all-wheel drive platform is definitely the best car for the money you are spending. (In my opinion) I bought mine with 80k miles on it for 14k. Well worth it. Keep up the good reviews. I'm subscribing!
I own a 2012 model and I love it. The only drawback is that it comes with summer tires and living in north east US like I do that presents a serious problem. I'm glad I bought a set of winter tires specially with the winter we're having around here.
I have been a fan of the Subaru WRX and the STI and have been wanting one for so bad and saw both your reviews and I would have to agree that I like the WRX better than the STI.... Your reviews are great and makes me want to get one ASAP !!
Stick with the WRX. I have the coupe 2.0T. Got a good price but no car can out perform the WRX in any segment. Maybe MPGs but for the little different...nah.
I was disappointed in the 13 Genesis Turbo performance when I too was trying to make the decision of what I wanted last september. Even though it and the Wrx have similar power, the Wrx just seemed so much quicker. Not to mention awd and Subaru's safety excellence. Absolute no brainer.
Good to see your big smile again... it's been a long time. Your test of an FRS sold me on a used 2013 one. Now, as you mentioned, I'm a bit down on the slowness of the FRS, plus, at 70 yrs old, I think I'd like something a bit more roomy... but still zippy! I'm looking at this year range of a WRX, but in a hatch. I miss my 2000 Honda Civic Hatch. Those things are handy. A neighbor has a black WRX hatch and I like the looks a lot. Seems like the mileage is worse than my FRS, but I don't commute any more. Except for some traffic, it'd be good for visiting my GF in Los Angeles, about 80 mi. away. Her young daughters would fit in it better than in my FRS, too. I guess I have to see if I can spring the money. I'm retired & can't do payments. Oh, how's the torque steer in these?
I own a My13 WRX and I think you are spot on. The equivalent in Australia cost 44000 and the STI is either 68 or 75000, depending on the model you choose.
finally u reviewed my car!!! lol 2012 wrx premeium sedan in plasma blue pearl. just hit 10k miles on it and loving every second of it. Im stage 2 with an intake now and very soon going to be getting front and rear swaybars and RCE springs. great review
You seem to like discussing cargo space in all your reviews. One thing to mention about the WRX/STI (old and new gens) is that you can buy an OEM "arm rest extension" which doubles the size of the existing center storage console. There's also a Subaru JDM one that allows you to reuse the original storage lid, which is nice if you have an sti with the red contrast stitching. Costs about 100 bucks and definitely worth it.
Great review!! I drive one of these in pearl white. Absolutely love it. The perfect car. I'm 6'1 and 215 and the seats hug me nicely. It also has miles of headroom.
good review!!! i love my 13 subie wrx hatch working on touching the 300hp by next year end. brz/frs are both fun cars for what they are rwd however i went with the wrx for its reliablity.
Matt I've been watching your videos for a while now, I am a subscriber and because of you I have really been turned on to the WRX!!! I'm a big time Chevrolet man. Die hard to be exact, but like u I would call my self Chevy camaro fan, one day I'll have it but for now, the last gen WRX and the 15 and iOS are really the best deals. Thanks for your reviews, I will be a WRX owner soon!!!!!
The 5-speed WRX actually IS faster than the STI's 6-speed, at least to 60 mph. And hah, this review is just in time for the unveiling of the 2015 WRX tomorrow morning at 10:00, can't wait! Great job with the review, very detailed.
I was waiting for that comment " you don't buy a WRX for the quality of the interior". You buy it for the AWD, the aggressive look, the rumble and the below 5 seconds zero to 60. People say that the SI has a better interior and better electronics, but thats not what the WRX is all about. Its all about performance for a minimal price. If you want the nicer interior of the SI, you will have to enjoy the 6 seconds 0-60
of course it can pull slightly harder than an STI it can do a 0-60 ( If launched properly ) in 4.7 sec i believe the sti does it in 5.2? I could be wrong...
You are right in numbers but wrong in assumptions ;) The reason the WRX gets to 60 faster is because it can get there in 2nd gear, the STI requires a shift to 3rd. The STI should "pull" a little harder, but we are splitting hairs here. Both are great cars, it's nice to have a choice.
They feel faster than the numbers suggest because they are. In a sense kind of. A 0-60 time of 5.4 ish for the wrx means that if you take away the slow start while you wait for the turbo to kick in, then consider it once it kicks in you're doing 20-60 in probably around 3 seconds, which is DAMN quick. And that's what you're feeling. Compared to a NA car capable of 0-60 in the same time of around 5.4, which will pull more evenly all the way to 60 so their 20-60 feels more grounded. Imagine if the wrx could pull that hard all the way from 0 then you'll have an under 5 second car (4.8-4.9). Which isn't possible because the wrx will always have turbo lag. But it FEELS like a sub 5 second car because it IS (in a sense as I explained) once it gets going.
+Subaruwrxfan Matt my cat (and me) love your videos. She keeps pawing at your face on my iPhone. You're so in depth and have a charisma that's very positive.
Great review, as always- spot on! It helped in my decision to pick up my 14 sedan. Other than the somewhat painful MPG and a throttle body to intercooler hose that just wouldn't stay put, I've been loving it. Thanks and keep up the good work. JB
+crazyjd64 actually no. the gear ratios are longer, so they actually ride at lower rpm or same as 6speed. that is one reason why wrx at straight line is quicker than a sti. #research or #ownonebeforeyoutalk
Again, a great review - felt like I was riding along with you. The AWD makes me wonder why I bought a BRZ as I live in the NE and like you am figuring out snow tires, rims etc. and how things will go this winter.
I thought about the wrx sti for a long time before the brz came out. After buying the BRZ i still dreamed of owning a wrx sti. Defeantly my next car :D
If you live in Canada or the northern United States where it snows and want something fun this is a perfect buy.. the civic si sacrifices too much performance-wise to give you a nice interior which most enthusiasts don't focus on anyway
The happiness that car gave you, made me smile bahahaha yeah I know which one im getting for price and power. WRX. In Australia, the wrx is $39,990, the sit 69,990. almost double the price, and the its on 20-25KW powerful, stiffer, and 6sp with lags. The wrx is 0-100kph quicker then the sti because of the extra shift. THANKS MAN!!!! first video ive seen on your page. Tahnks a lot again. SUBARU FOR LIFE!!
Nice. Thanks for this nice review on this very nice car. I love the nice color and the nice sound. Hopefully I can buy the nice wrx in the nice blue color like this nice video posted... nicely done.
great review as usual. I've had a 2011 hatch for almost 3 years and I think your review is right on point. After 3 years the interior gets a bit creaky but its still an amusing useful car. I drove a 2013 Si a few weeks back and you were right on point with that as well...don't think I could give up my wrx for it but the interior was much nicer.
Very good review. I am in a process of buying this car too after ive decided not to use my money installing a sr20det on my 240sx. i rather put that money getting this car. at least im legally turboed. A CALIFORNIA LEGAL TURBO CAR !!! LOL
It's interesting he says that it feels faster then the numbers say. It seems a lot of manufacturers are down playing their numbers on their cars recently, wouldn't surprise me if Subaru did the same.
Well I guess its a good thing because maybe HP factors in to insurance cost. The faster the car can go, the higher the insurance goes up because they assume you will be driving fast.
You said that you would choose a civic si as the front wheel drive car of your choice. What about the 2013 mazdaspeed3? Or the Ford Focus ST...I don't think the civic si could even keep up with them. It'll be nice to see a review on those two that I just mentioned. A nice interior don't make your car faster but a good engine.
This review is still good in 2023. Watching this makes me wish manufacturers would do re-releases.
2011-2014 WRX was a home run.
why not the 2010's

Defiantly considering trading my 13 mazdaspeed 3 for this! i need that awd!
I'm considering the same! I love my 2008 Mazdaspeed but need the all wheel drive! I realize your comment is 6 years old, but did you?!
@@aprilsmith9210 Ah I ended up selling the Mazdaspeed and getting a Subaru Forester lol
I took one of these in the canyon last week with my EVO 8 its a nice car
I thought I heardSTi hits 60 slower than the WRX due to the WRX's 5 speed
Wow man, great review. Nice to see someone love the accel with a smile. I am convinced. I have to save up for this now. goddamnit.
One of my favorite wrxs tbh
Great review, as always- spot on! It helped in my decision to pick up my 14 sedan. Other than the somewhat painful MPG and a throttle body to intercooler hose that just wouldn't stay put, I've been loving it. Thanks and keep up the good work.
JB
5 speed manual in a 2013 wtf? so when ur driving on the highway at about 75-80mph the rpm's must be through the roof
+crazyjd64 actually no. the gear ratios are longer, so they actually ride at lower rpm or same as 6speed. that is one reason why wrx at straight line is quicker than a sti. #research or #ownonebeforeyoutalk
Matt Park lol it was more of a question than an insult to subaru. Go back to twitter
how about you think before you comment then? sounds like a comment without a ?. i don't twitter idiot for I know it's dumb to be doing that.
+Matt Park #okguy
at around 75-80mph 5th gear, it's just above 3k. I drive "12 wrx
Again, a great review - felt like I was riding along with you. The AWD makes me wonder why I bought a BRZ as I live in the NE and like you am figuring out snow tires, rims etc. and how things will go this winter.
This is a great channel. Just subscribed. :) Keep up buddy.
Welcome to the channel and thank you for subscribing!
@@MattMaranMotoring My pleasure.
2015 WRX 2liter bullet proof engine, hope so,, but this color blue is sick niceee
I would take a WRX for sure!
I thought about the wrx sti for a long time before the brz came out. After buying the BRZ i still dreamed of owning a wrx sti. Defeantly my next car :D
you should review the 2013 focus ST!
sweet car. Glad I bought one.
gonna miss that sound. The unequal length headers which gave off the awesome sound we came to expect has been killed off in the new WRX. Such a shame.
A buddy of mine in Maryland has this same car. Absolute BLAST to drive
If you live in Canada or the northern United States where it snows and want something fun this is a perfect buy.. the civic si sacrifices too much performance-wise to give you a nice interior which most enthusiasts don't focus on anyway
Just bought a 2014 hatch!!!!!
i drove one of these before i bought my st. and my 2013 st 2 felt way better and thats why i bought it. please review a focus st!!
Great review once again, keep it up! Also look forward to the weekly updates and news.
i love how he yells his user name and flails his hands
The happiness that car gave you, made me smile bahahaha yeah I know which one im getting for price and power. WRX. In Australia, the wrx is $39,990, the sit 69,990. almost double the price, and the its on 20-25KW powerful, stiffer, and 6sp with lags. The wrx is 0-100kph quicker then the sti because of the extra shift. THANKS MAN!!!! first video ive seen on your page. Tahnks a lot again. SUBARU FOR LIFE!!
I really enjoy your reviews man
Many thanks for that review !!! I might get one of these new WRXs
Wanted a hatchback, so no 2015 for me. Picking mine up next week
Nice. Thanks for this nice review on this very nice car. I love the nice color and the nice sound. Hopefully I can buy the nice wrx in the nice blue color like this nice video posted... nicely done.
new wrx revealed today at LA auto show. Hope it lives up to the hype
You should try to review a Focus ST. I really enjoy all your reviews
Lol at description, Civic Si vs WRX... Who would ever choose the civic?! Nice review man, love the vids.
great review as usual. I've had a 2011 hatch for almost 3 years and I think your review is right on point. After 3 years the interior gets a bit creaky but its still an amusing useful car. I drove a 2013 Si a few weeks back and you were right on point with that as well...don't think I could give up my wrx for it but the interior was much nicer.
gotta have the hatchback though! the 4 door doesn't quite look right to me ;)
You did a great job with this review. Most people's TH-cam reviews are garbage. Great job!!!
2015 looks like its gonna be a great car
I would like to see that Hatchback edition.
But they drive exactly the same...
Elegant and powerful but also sporty. :) Thumb up for this video.
p.s. Detailed review, have to say it.
I ended up buying a 2013 mazdaspeed3 instead of one of these. Love the sound and awd though
I'm dying to see a review on an S2K.
Very good review. I am in a process of buying this car too after ive decided not to use my money installing a sr20det on my 240sx. i rather put that money getting this car. at least im legally turboed. A CALIFORNIA LEGAL TURBO CAR !!! LOL
How is an sr20det 240 illegal?
I LOVE YOUR REVIEWS
True just wanted to see the interior. Becuase I am getting one for my first car.
I really like that car with out the rear wing. I wonder if it does anything to the over all performance of the car?
