Ive owned a Twingo Play 1L naturally aspirated engine for a month now and I disagree with Matt a little. It is immense fun in town and very quick off the line. I also did a long motorway journey in it and it is very comfortable, quiet, and well able to keep up with traffic at 120 Kmph!!! Far nicer looking car than the rivals in my opinion....
+Daryl Gunning Have you ever watched a positive british review on a french ? Enough said. If you want to watch something more balanced watch a german review in english.
Ioanides001 more power on such a short rwd wheelbase and rear engined will be a deathtrap, Porsche struggled with a long wheelbase for years! Unless Renault do some clever rear wheel steering but thats unlikely
First generation for this new platform,,, Hopefully it will not be ditched and a second improved generation will see its light with improved features such as a better drive, slightly improved engines, and some front seats that let's the back passenger see more ahead...
I drove it's sister vehicle , the smart forfour 0.9 turbo 90hp vehicle and it is the closest I can find to a go kart. I'm sure the twingo drives pretty much the same and it was so much fun to drive. off the line , it flies !!!!!! I reckon it's 0 to 20 miles per hour time is very impressive. I bought the smart but the twingo was high up on the list AND is cheaper than the smart.
What aboout the front boot? Why didn't you show it, is it there, how large it is? According to me, a small car with rear-mointed engine wins everything in my book.
What's the back round song. Really want it lol. Twingo look like a great little car and with loads of custom options you can make it that little more personal :)
.- do not understand how renault not put a 6 speed in the 0.9 turbo engine. .- so many negative comments about the little twingo, it seems that only dedicated himself to criticize and not to make a review
I remember Fiat 126 Bis , which had small engine under boot , but it has spare wheel and usable storage in the front . I would like to have some place for spare wheel .
I believe that if they were bothered , they could make space for at least spare wheel somewhere in front . This summer I was driving on motoway in 3 AM and at 120km/h I run over dead animal (it was raining and I did not see it) . Bome punctured tire from below and than erupted from side leaving 2 cm wide hole . Tire repair kit is useless in that case . I had under the boot 14 year old spare (old as car) . I drove all from Aleksinac (Serbia) to Stavros (Greece) on spare , which is about 550 km . Putting new one on rim insted punctured costed me 40 Euro . Car service , in 3AM , during rain would cost me a lot more and it would take lot more time . I have Hyundai Atos , same size at that Twingo , but it is 5 seater .
Mladen Milić Humm Twingo is made for city not high-speed deer hunting on highway during the night. Joke aside, this car sets a record in terms of inside space and modularity.
I'm considering to buy one of these or Skoda fabia 1.2 ... the only reason i like this car is the look but im not sure about the practicality as it's only 4 seats comparing to Skoda fabia.. also I'm not sure about the engine been in the back if it will make any difference . which one would you commander for a first time buyer .
the Sce70 engine is the more economical right? What about it? Anyone here got the car? I think i will buy one for comute and little road trips on my days off. What do you guys think?
i will soon drive it as rent car(it was the cheapest one i could rent). it will carry only 2 people and lots of stuff on the long ride, and once there it might carry more people. any tips or trick? (fuel and safety mostly)
I don't know what happened with french companies. They ALL started applying those sh*tty pop-up rear windows in almost all their new cars... WTF?? NOBODY LIKES THOSE REAR WINDOWS!!! :O (all the rest in the Twingo seems nice, it's a city car, you can't expect it to be "a Porsche 911" of course xD)
They are cheaper to make and ligther. And in this day and age, where nearly all new cars have aircondition, how often do anyone actually open the rear windows? It just never happens, so it makes complete sence to save money by making a cheaper opening mechanish. Want lots of fresh air? Then spend the 900 pound extra and get the big sunroof.
Volkswagen do the same with the Up/Mii/Citigo triplets. Definitely not exclusive to 'French companies', and definitely not something they've only just started doing.
So basically, this is a slap to the face to all those idiotic RWD-only fanboys who claim that RWD automatically makes a car fun... Now, I'm not knocking on the little Twingo (because who cares if a 70HP hatch isn't exactly the Ferrari of small cars?), but it does prove a point...
There are marketing/publicity stuff that they are calling me or thinking that I am stupid, this is one of them, but there are so many and everywhere.....
I geuss they finnaly TRIED to listen to the original twingo drivers , the room inside is a + compared to the size on the outside they finnaly got it close to normal size , the space you can make of course should be a standard, but already 2 small things i noticed what i dont like , 1 the button for the roof... WHY is it still UP instead of near the window controls ..? and second , in NO car should you have glossy interiour , especially in a semi convertible, unless you really want to get blinded by the sun , and i really hope, for mechanichs sake , they used only standard bolts or alan key type is there , lastly the engine in the back .. nice , but 3 cylinders yeah, only girls would like that if you know what i mean
David Texugo Not really. More like a big Fiat 500. The 1960`s Fiat 500 was rear engined, so its a bit ironic, that the modern Fiat 500 is FWD, while its actually Renault, who have built, what is technically the closest thing to a modern reinterpretation of the 500. The VW Beetle was rear engined also, and there were a number of other rear engined cars as well including NSUs and Skodas. So its not like, the Porsche 911 was the only rear engined car, until this came along.
I recognize the same door handles and window/mirror switchgear from my 2005 Renault Modus. Back then, they were rumoured to come from the skip outside Fiat's QC failures department and a known weakness (my driver's window takes several presses to fully up/down). I wonder how many are working well after 5 years now?
saddist1Gtown What part of "first" you don't understand. :D The only thing the first Fiat 500 has incomen with the new Twingo is rear engine rwd and the concept wasn't new back then either. The first RRWD since 40 years that's for sure. =)
ckb313235 Are you an idiot? My point is still not addressed! Who the hell is on about RWD or FWD???? The design is a ripoff of the Fiat 500! Get it in your thick skull, Renault has gotten a bit lazy in their design language of late! P.S. in common.....
I love this car... It's really a fresh thing...

Have you ever watched a positive british review on a french ?
Enough said.
If you want to watch something more balanced watch a german review in english.
You know the RS version will be fcking awesome. You just know it. :P
Bring on the Twingo rs, had a 133 Gordini loved it to bits, can't wait for the new one
twingo RS should be a hoot!
Just throw in 200hp!
***** pretty sure that even 120 bhp will do. just need to get the back end loose!
Ioanides001 more power on such a short rwd wheelbase and rear engined will be a deathtrap, Porsche struggled with a long wheelbase for years! Unless Renault do some clever rear wheel steering but thats unlikely
i guess a clever diff would be enough to keep the spin controllable. we shall (soon) see...
Ioanides001 its said to get more than the abarth 500. about 150 bhp ive heard.
100% unbiased.
Fantastic review. Very thorough. If I were to replace my MX-5 with a small city car, this would be in my top-3.
Only the passanger seat can be fold? why cant fold the 2 seats for sleep or "something"?
First generation for this new platform,,, Hopefully it will not be ditched and a second improved generation will see its light with improved features such as a better drive, slightly improved engines, and some front seats that let's the back passenger see more ahead...
That's a nice car. I wish those would make their way to Brazil, the only super compact cars we have here are the VW's Up and Fiat's 500.
This is how Fiat 500 should of been like...
nooo!!!
like renault 5 Turbo
from 1980
Can't wait for the RS model!
I reckon this is a proper good little runabout for city duties. The host sounds like a young Roger Daltrey of The Who. Cheers, mate!
VW Up! as benchmark? Really?
***** i10 is way better than anything in this class
MyRealName i10 concept got heartattack when twingo arrived !
This video was uploaded on *9/11.* Matt said the Twingo is like a *911* due to the position of the engine and the rear wheel drive. Coincidence?
What aboout the front boot? Why didn't you show it, is it there, how large it is?
According to me, a small car with rear-mointed engine wins everything in my book.
There is no front boot.
what is in the front if the engine is in the back, more space or something else?
your knees? haha
What's the back round song. Really want it lol.
Twingo look like a great little car and with loads of custom options you can make it that little more personal :)
Whats in front? Since the engine's in the back? another boot?
.- do not understand how renault not put a 6 speed in the 0.9 turbo engine.

I remember Fiat 126 Bis , which had small engine under boot , but it has spare wheel and usable storage in the front . I would like to have some place for spare wheel .
Safety rules are more stringent. Also space inside is used for people, not boot IMHO.
I believe that if they were bothered , they could make space for at least spare wheel somewhere in front . Joke aside, this car sets a record in terms of inside space and modularity.
Look at Japanese Kei cars , which are huge on inside compared to Twingo .
Doesn't it have storage in the front??! Weird as the engine is in the back.
10.8 seconds to 60mph is "alright" for a city car? Wow... I have a supermini (10yo Clio 1.2 16v) that I tested as 14 secs to 60.
Have you tested 0-60? What year?
And have you maxed it out? Got 97mph out of mine
Old Phase 1? The 1.2 8v engines are overrated they're 54bhp (57bhp Phase 2 onwards) not 60 at all
I'm considering to buy one of these or Skoda fabia 1.2 ... the only reason i like this car is the look but im not sure about the practicality as it's only 4 seats comparing to Skoda fabia.. also I'm not sure about the engine been in the back if it will make any difference .

Just noticed this car looks like a refined version of the 1st gen Ford KA
Smart ED >>>>
want.... too bad none of the innovative cars make it to the USA
This car looks so much like a Fiat 500, it's almost unbelievable.
...and half the price :-)
I don't know what happened with french companies. They ALL started applying those sh*tty pop-up rear windows in almost all their new cars...

people with these cars mostly never have people in the back, so its a good compromise for cheapness, lightness and still able to open it
fundiver198 Yeah. Calm quote of the day to an angry TH-camr!
Technology has made so much progress that it doesn't anymore I think. Exactly like the BMW new Active Tourer.
Can you travel with that car
There are marketing/publicity stuff that they are calling me or thinking that I am stupid, this is one of them, but there are so many and everywhere.....
Looks like the SatNav is just CoPilot.
10 min review and we didn't get to see what's in the front of the car!
You can't show nothing. The front is just crumble zone.
i am pretty sorry for what he did 1:10 that was NOT nice at all
I've always wondered where the party was?
Love how Madonna was on the radio

Look like FiAt 500
renol 5 tx
Mat looks soo hot at 10:21
Just drift it already!
Another crap car. Why not just market it for what it is and cut out the b****x. A wimpish pseudo sports car with no performance or handling.
It is not meant to be sport it was built for the city.
i dont get why this cars have 4 seats -.-
Fiat 500
RWD with the engine on the rear???? REALLY??
What the matter?
TonyyHD It's basically a really light 911
David Texugo Wrong, It's an ex R4 with a rear motor/
David Texugo Not really. More like a big Fiat 500. If i remember correctly, the smart fortwo is also rear engine and rwd
What a disappointing car...watch it sell in the millions
Parts in interior from Dacia!
Cheap crap!

The car looks way to feminine IMO.
not as good as a ford. yeah got it..... classic watson.....
Buy an Alfa romeo 33 1.3 S for 500 pounds and live Happy forever!!! City car = crap, that's all rubbish!
a mere Fiat 500 ripoff. The original Twingo was unique, Fiat should feel real flattered.
You mean the first Twingo ?
that shit looked horrible just like the first ford ka.
The second generation Twingo is the best imo.
What part of unique don't you understand???
saddist1Gtown What part of "first" you don't understand. :D The only thing the first Fiat 500 has incomen with the new Twingo is rear engine rwd and the concept wasn't new back then either. The first RRWD since 40 years that's for sure. =)

at least it has 4 doors. if it's a copy , it's more practical at least
Dreadful
Will it drift?
