Conversely "Just because you got lucky doesn't mean it wasn't a stupid risk to take" is even less commonly understood. - Except when trying long shots for the fun of it when it does happen, then it's worth. :)
It's true, too, especially in a dice game like 40K. While you can play the averages and take safe bets, you have literally no control over how many dice come up 1. You can make the safest, most reasonable move ever and just get a whole stack of 1s and possibly lose the game because you made the right call. It's not often, but it's something to be aware of.
I don't understand the hate for splitting fire sometimes. Yes it's not always the best idea (especially if you're Tau) but what was Nick supposed to do, shoot his bolters into a Land Raider? And not into some Intercessors?? I think it's a totally reasonable thing to do with big tanks full of guns of varying strengths
Rather, splitting into the Landraider might be what the issue was. If he had focused it all on the Intercessors, even if overkill, at least they would be gone.
Well, if you're attacking something, you need it dead. You're just not maximising your chances of killing it. And as someone who rolls notoriously badly, I can't split fire or I never kill anything.
Look at that Repulsor.. that thing is gorgeous. The way he was able to capture that sort of weathered look in such an authentic way is awesome. It's also possible it was just gained through transporting it and continued use, but it seems like he actually painted it and crafted it that way. I only just started my first armies but that caught my eye and man.. well done. Also awesome game! Can't stop watching these!
@klgw99 well, unless you have really bad luck. I made 2 saves my last game. Was shot off the board turn 3. Had an enemy skitarii squad wipe my 10 man intercessor squad in cover with armour of contempt (so all up +2 to my AS) and a 6 up fnp. I missed all saves and fnps.
"Wow, look at Commissar Cain, bravely holding that objective from even the enemy's massive tanks! What a hero!" Meanwhile, cut to Ciaphas Cain's hiding spot, where he's sobbing and praying and pleading he doesn't get noticed in his little corner.
After that terrible DA turn 4, I counted all the DA rolls and averaged them... Statistical dice will roll an average of 3.5. DA rolled an average of 2.96.Thats outside the 97% confidence interval, which with the number of roles this game was + - 0.21. Taking that into account, there was a less than 0.001% chance of you rolling that bad. Conclusion, your dice are badly weighted.
Watching your videos have really helped push me into the hobby more! I just started collecting and painting! I can't wait until i finish and get to meet some people and start playing the game!
We used to follow the “don’t say the m-word” tradition back when I played 3rd edition 40k when I was in school - glad to see the tradition is alive and well 20 years later across the pond 😂
Really liked the phased deployment of this game, have seen it used elsewhere and always struck as a sensible way to avoid total alpha strikes in leiu of alternating activations.
So I been mulling jumping in to 40K for literal years like half a decade and I am doing so next week with some of my Christmas bonus. Had my eye on Tau from the start, for that mech aesthetic of course, but drawn to the Astra in the last several days and that Valkyrie may just be enough to swing the tide that way cuz holy balls that is a gorgeous piece.
God I’m always so happy to catch a game when in the mood to watch something warhammer cuz watching y’all makes me want to buy minis to build up just any kind of list, paint them up as best as can be and just have a fun match if possible 😂😁
This is a really cool idea for a game set-up. Starting with the combat patrol and then escalating up over the course of the game is a really cool match up.
How'd Nick shoot into combat with his flamer? Did the infantry fall back? If they did, how'd he use grenades due to falling back not being eligible to shoot? Anybody able to help clarify for me? (~20:00)
For the grenades strat, you do not need to be eligible to shoot, you just use it on a unit before they shoot, since the infantry that fell back didn’t shoot, they can use grenades. Even if they fell back, and can’t shoot they can still use grenades. The exact wording is “… has not been selected to shoot this phase.”
yes ! ive been watching and playing mechabellum and wondering how to get that feel in 40k. very cool rules that gives this game a more tactical and quicker turns
I think it would be cool if you did a "tutorial battle" where you do a match in the 40k in 40 minutes but you explain everything you do so it's easier for inexperienced players to keep up and learn.
We do have a How-to-play video and we do play a demo game in there th-cam.com/video/NFnTkjk025E/w-d-xo.html . Some of our games can be a bit slower with more explanation but it is tough to do to get all that explanation from what is a typical 3 hour game into 40 minutes.
I don't know if Nick did any of the sustained hits from his Castellan and the Kasrkin, which I think should have happened on the meltaguns and the Castellan's plasma pistol.
Feel like that was the most whiffing I've seen in a 40k in 40m in some time. Felt both armies were staring each other down rather than shooting each other up. Superb sportsmanship all round though!
I do agree that sometimes, there is nothing wrong with split firing. But with the way the board was on turn three, Nick shouldnt have split fired so much. If he could have focused enough onto weaker units, he then couldve switched to other units after he wiped out the ones he needed to take out first.
imagine being a guardsman and you die bc u stumbled across something you weren't supposed to see and your Commisar didn't know how to just look the other so you get butchered by space marines from that were on your side
"Just because it didn't work doesn't mean it wasn't the right call."
Unironically a very reassuring and inspiring quote. Thanks, Nick!
It is possible to make every correct decision and still lose
Conversely
"Just because you got lucky doesn't mean it wasn't a stupid risk to take"
is even less commonly understood.
- Except when trying long shots for the fun of it when it does happen, then it's worth. :)
“It is possible to commit no mistakes and still lose. That is not a weakness; that is life.” Jean Luc Picard
a new banger quote to add with this one.

Can this be the next shirt?

Splitfire is a bit of a channel meme cuz especially nick has a tendency to end up leaving enemies with 1 wound remaining after splitting fire
@@thomy1516 And then Nick can't kill that unit for the life of him. (which has led to some losses)
Splitting fire is great for Tau always use the right weapon for the right target.
"Time for guard to bring in 750pt of reinforcements! That'll be 110 infantry. And a cyclops demo vehicle."
I like how this entire video proves that superstition truly works and belief can grant you extra power which is just such a Warhammer thing
WAAAGGHHHH

Davids a legend, comedic timing, great player. Bring him back.
David having some negatively weighted dice... all those ones
Steve touched dice possibly??
Looked like he was ready to have an ace attorney breakdown on some of those rolls
I love how David had THE WORST ROLLING LUCK I HAVE EVER SEEN and still won the game
Thats why I love this game. Even if you aren't doing much damage. If you can get ahead on VP and make it to the end of round 5 you can still win.
Nick, keep that positive energy coming. 🤘🏻
Dude I swear I’ve never seen Nick win with the guard lol
What an amazing match! David was a great Challenger and he has a gorgeous Dark Angels Army !
I love Nicks enthusiasm. The trumpet imitation when he rolled an 11 on the Charge with the riders 😂😍
He makes the Videos so fun to watch!
it is always a treat and greatly welcome to see new players on the channel! This was a great video
That redemptor dread looks really cool!
Thanks so much!
Shame the inferred marine won't last long
ohh! Dark Angels are finally back on PlayOn!!!
15:14 Looks like Commissar Cain has made it to the tabletop.
"Wow, look at Commissar Cain, bravely holding that objective from even the enemy's massive tanks! What a hero!"
Meanwhile, cut to Ciaphas Cain's hiding spot, where he's sobbing and praying and pleading he doesn't get noticed in his little corner.
Poor David needs new dice!! Also nice to see the sportsmanship letting the land raider move because of the weird terrain rules for vehicles
Ya he needs to burn those dice with extreme hatred.
What a wildly fun game! I thoroughly enjoyed David and the scenario and would love to see more of both :)
The more DA the better! Definitely the best bat reps on TH-cam. Keep up the good work!
I recently played a game in a duos tournament against a guy who had 20 rough riders but kit bashed them to be riding dinosaurs. It was epic
"Dice tell stories and this story is a sad one" xD by that point i was just in stitches man. Too funny! Thanx for such a fun game :)
Loveee the narrative. I was just listening to the lorehanmer episode about the lost primarchs
?
Love seeing the Guard in action 🫡
Bring this guy back!

Or the god emperor hates traitors
Wow, thanks for proving what we were all thinking. You're doing Omnissiah's work. Would love to see the formula for your math.
@artemeremin I just manually wrote a tally for all the dice, then fed it into Excel and did a standard distribution
LOL
Are you a Tech-Priest?
It's good to see my Dark Angels getting some representation, Nick. I am sad there was no explosions
Guard Nick is my favorite player. If Tycho is not on board, of course :)
Watching your videos have really helped push me into the hobby more! I just started collecting and painting! I can't wait until i finish and get to meet some people and start playing the game!
always happy to see guard played on channel
We used to follow the “don’t say the m-word” tradition back when I played 3rd edition 40k when I was in school - glad to see the tradition is alive and well 20 years later across the pond 😂
David seems like a very nice guy! Cleary an amazing painter too! Great to see a new face on the channel :)
Nick. Never stop, never stopping. You're a 40k angel in this community
I just want to hug David after that sad dice story. I roll like that as well brother, I feel your pain.
One of the best 40k in 40min I have ever seen. Hilarious! Fantastic Match.
David was a fun guest!! great battle!
LMAO THE FLEX ROLL
What an absolute banger of an opening
Well done David, brilliant scenario, hope to see you back with another interesting concept.
Really liked the phased deployment of this game, have seen it used elsewhere and always struck as a sensible way to avoid total alpha strikes in leiu of alternating activations.
What a treat! Good game David and Nick!
Man watching your magnetized parts move so easily disturbed me. Stronger magnets boys.
The "Doubt" edit was a great detail, love that little meme 😂

That battle terrain is absolutely amazing.
This is a phenomenal match
Those guard miniatures looked great.
Fun scenario idea. Has a Conquest vibe with the staggered reinforcements.
Can we please see Aeldar v Drukhari next?
Heavy in lore, easy grudge match, and all about the speed! 🤪
David vs Steve, lets goooo! Apocalyptic dice rolling ;p
Just a nit pick here: FOB only get sustained while under orders, not just for remaining stationary.
Overall good game! Love this channel!
31:40 Just Mubin chillin' in the back 😂
8:28 he didn’t miss he just caught it ;-;
I would love to see another Adeptus titanicus video just saying
Awesome, this was like an actual war.
never seen someone roll so many 1s and 2s them baron of dice rly are the dice you need!
The amount of 1's I saw this game was unreal.
Commander Robin, that got me
Great games of 40k in 40mins 👍
Who gave these armies the friggin pool noodles to fight with lmao. What crummy rolling in that 2nd half
what an awesome scenario!
I wish it said what music is playing.
There's usually a playlist at the end of the videos. They do pick some great music for their battle reports.
@@Chakfor It would help a lot to know Which of those songs was played at what timestamp though
@@Engitainment Can you provide us the timestamps? 😊

I’m looking into getting a table for the house and I really like the size table they use!
Why that Valkirie at 1:39 has a Tau fusion blaster??? I am calling the Inquisition right now!!!
I heard that discord sound at 09:12

my literal 2 favorite factions in 40K!
Those Attilan Rough Riders must've borrowed some equipment from Krieg lol
@9:09 had me looking on discord trying to find the message i was sent haha
more narrative games would be cool to see in the future
Nick: it did not miss 8:19
Intercessor: yeah dude it was wild, I dodged and this missile just flew by my face lol
The delayed deployment made this game so interesting.
yes ! ive been watching and playing mechabellum and wondering how to get that feel in 40k. very cool rules that gives this game a more tactical and quicker turns
Looks like David tank machine spirit was not so please with him yet the dice tell story.
Those Eradicators are beautiful. Would love to know where David got the bits for the helmets!
my two favorite armies!
🤣"Strike from the sky brothers"... [Chem Cannon turns them to goo]...
The guard should have been getting an extra cp every round
I didn't know you could CP reroll a Hazardous roll.
Thanks for the video

I wonder where the missiles miss actually started. I remember saying it playing space marines in 2009.
Who gave David Steve^s dice?
This guy needs to melt his dice down and get some new ones. Holy crap.

31:00 you can’t reroll the amount of shots from a weapon. That’s not listed under the stratagem. Great video and sportsmanship btw 🙌🏽
You can it's written on the second last line of the "when" section of command re roll stratagem on the app.
