Jared, Thank You for offering this free lesson online, at 59 I have now taken my first drum lesson. I've wanted to play the drums since I was five years old. After watch "Little Drummer Boy" I begged my mother for a set of drums, but we lived in a three family dwelling and that was not an option! For years I played the Air Drums, and as the years passed and other priorities set in, the desire to learn the drums fell by the wayside. Unfortunately, this past March I lost my beloved mother, and since then, for some weird reason, I've felt the urge to learn the drums, guess mom gave me the ok from the other side :). So I bought a pad and a set of sticks and here we go! All My Best Mike
I love your comment !!!! I am sorry to hear about your moms passing! I hope you’re still playing and having fun ! My dad was a drummer playing around Pittsburgh Jazz bands , trios, still has his drums set up. , I’m 55 and always wanted to play the drums . However , my dad dream wanted a baby grand in his home wished for his daughter to play the piano ! I tried and didn’t care for it , Being a daughter of a musician , I appreciated all music and instruments and after the first time I saw Sheila E perform I was blown away I was blown away by this brilliant talented female drummer … Still to this day when watching it discussing music , a band or musician I will say jokingly but truthfully if only I took drumming lessons… , he laughs says or stuck with piano like Alicia Keys ! This video taught me enough that I just sat down and played my dads drums and he came in and I impressed the hell out of him and this video is the first and only one I have watched! Highly recommend ! Thank you Jared ! And Mike for your great story! Lee

Hey Jared, how are you?! I'm looking for beginner level lessons and I found this video. Simply amazing the way you count to 8 to know where to hit. This way is so much easier to understand than if we have to say anything else to refer strong and weak tempo counter tempo or whatever. Thank you for this double lesson (of how to play and how to teach).

Thank you. :) Grip is very important. Make sure you spend time away from the full kit to focus only on your hands. Set up a pad with your phone to record yourself or sit in front of a mirror so you can see your hands. That way you can pick out any bad habits you might have developed along the way.
I am just a singer-songwriter and was searching for some easy tutorial for better understanding how the drums are played. And you do illustrate it very accessibly! Thank you, Jared!)
First I want to thank you for this lesson, I’m 46 now but when I was a kid I begged my parents for drum lessons but where I live it was expensive and unfortunately out of budget, as I grew up I got other priorities and left drumming as a wishful thought, I picked up the Bass guitar about 8 years ago but never truly committed to it, drums have always been my true love so this week I bought my first kit an e drum set today I will be setting it up and hopefully getting on with this first lesson, I already know I will be signing up to Drumeo because all the lessons I’ve already watched in TH-cam have been great and perfectly clear. Happy drumming to all of you.
Hello! 53 year old just now leaning how to play drums. Drumeo is awesome! The lesson was so simplistic and very easy to follow. Got it on the first time around. Thank you for putting this out there! I appreciate you!
I rewatched K-on for the 3rd time and I found some old drumsticks in my garage so finally time to learn the drums. everytime I watch the show it gives me the urge to play an instrument so hopefully this time I dont give up
Just starting this at 44 years old. I scanned through a few lessons and Jared captured my attention and his teaching style had me feeling like a drummer. I love this channel and looking forward to learning more. You are amazing Jared. It's hard when a person doesn't have any experience with instruments to try and learn..but your methods are applicable and really just works!!! Thank you! I'm amazed and excited!
I've learned to play a bit of the guitar and now I'm taking interest in drums I just wanna learn how to play a little bit of everything I guess lol cos life's short haha 😅
Your first lesson was very relaxed, slow, well explained. I'm 66 and the last few yrs had the desire to learn the drums for pure fun, and to let off steam..❤❤❤
Thank you so much for helping me learn to play drums im retired on a fixed income and have found my love for drumming. You make it possible for people like me to learn. Thank you again.... I love drumming
You are so right, playing drums doesn't cost anything and it's a fun pastime. I'm. 72 year old broad on a fixed income also, my drums give me hours of enjoyment.
Just bought a drum set so that a visiting friend who played professionally could play with my piano playing husband. The visit is over but the drum set remains. I keep looking at it thinking I’ll learn. So now with this, my first drum lesson, I begin. I’m 80 tomorrow and play the piano, clarinet and I used to sing. Next, I’ll be drum competent. Really good work out for the brain. Thanks!
As a professional drummer, I find your videos right on key and a way better teacher then I had. Which is why anyone ask me how to play drums I turn them on to you. I've been watching your videos for a few years now but this is my first comment. Keep up the great work you are providing. Giving credit where credit is due.
Any luck yet? He has a previous tutorial before this and I’m not sure if you’ve seen it. I’m a beginner in drums too and I was having a hard time at first but after a few minutes I got it. Idk why but on the slower tempo, I make a lot of mistake but on faster tempo i don’t make as much mistake. Also, if I think about where to hit next, I make more mistake so I tend to clear my mind or look somewhere else and I don’t make as much mistake. I hope you don’t give up and keep trying! 🥺🤞🏼
I used to have the same problem but air drumming helped me, before I got my kit last week I'd just air drum simple beats to build coordination. Just a few months ago I thought I'd literally never be able to play drums because of my terrible coordination but now I can hold a steady beat and add my own fills without messing up too bad. Most important thing is take it sloooooow, and make sure to get everything right, last thing you wanna do is get the wrong stuff ingrained into your muscle memory (that's what really fcked me up when I first started). You got this bro 💪 Oh and also remember to learn some music theory, especially rhythm. It'll make it sooo much easier just knowing how music goes together. And don't forget metronome practice
I'm 27 and just started learning Drums Today.... And I thought that it was late that i decided to learn drums today. But after going through the comments im glad that i decided now than later. Cause its never too late. Well, i maybe posting some of my drum lessons in the future though. So kindly save this comment. ❤ And thank you so much for the lessons. I'm really enjoying it❤️👍
This lesson is a great way for me to teach my grandson the basics.Ipersonally have been playing for 55 years and would like to leave my love of drumming to him.
Awesome lesson for beginners. I've basically done the exact same thing when teaching friends who want to try it out. It's wonderful seeing the looks on their faces when they finally nail that simple fill for the first time and jump back into the beat. I'll probably keep teaching myself, but I would send this video to them as well afterwards. Good stuff Jared.
I always thought playing drums would be easy. But now, hearing the click from my DWA ... I see how much I am out of time. And, yes - I am an absolute beginner. I have now very much respect for each and every drummer. Keeping time and overing a nice groove to the band ... is something special. Not everybody can do this. Thanks for these videos so that I can learn some basics. Highly appreciated.
I was in a same situation, I got myself drum practice pad and sticks. Now I can play it without annoying anyone. And it's even better to get your basics in line before investing in a full kit.
This guy is amazing. I gave up on learning drums 20 years ago because I didn’t learn anything useful like this in my first three lessons. I can actually understand what to do now after just a few minutes.
I finally fulfilled a life long dram and got myself a drum set! I watched several videos on TH-cam, but yours was my favorite and I actually learned that beat! you keep simple, no hype, no theory, your set does not have 20 pieces to complicate things, and your approach is perfect, so congratulations and thank yo for teaching me my first drum beat, can't believe I can actually do it!
I have just ordered my drum set and i cant wait to start drumming so i decided to start my lessson 1 wuth this video ...thank you drumeo and jared keep inspiring 😭😭
At 63 years old, getting ready to retire, I have finally acquired an electric set. Working on hand and foot coordination is a challenge. But I am able to work on it with your videos and repetition. thank you.
Thank you. 46 year old who would like to learn to play drums. As always I check the internet for information and found your channel. These are great inductory videos and appreciate your time in making them and offering for everyone free. FREE! Why 904 people would not like this video beggers belief. Anyway thanks again and have a good weekend.
I just got a drum kit after 25 years of not playing since snare in grammar school. Thanks to your easy to follow video. I already feel like a real drummer
I was randomly given an electric drum kit for Christmas today with absolutely no knowledge of drums (or even asking for this as a gift) I’ve never even touched a real drum kit… was told I needed to try to challenge myself. Found your video and it was very helpful, thank you! Let’s see if I can make this a real hobby.
Can't wait to try it out. You have a nice calm voice and a friendly/helpful/motivating (you can do this tone) presentation. You've got me hooked on learning to play drums.
Thanks Jared! This video helped me out.. I just bought this set yesterday, so I am definitely a beginner, but you made it super easy to learn the rock beat with the fill. I truly appreciate your vids - again, thank you!
Thanks Jared, just got a electronic drum kit this weekend, I wanted one for ages, and this is my first lesson, even for someone musically challenged this was great to understand and follow. Nice teaching bud.
I am 50 years old. I like music. LOVE MUSIC! But I've never understood how to hear beats. How to keep time. People say "You need to keep time." HOW! It's so frustrating. Nobody could explain to me "You need to count!" COUNT WHAT? Now I understand. Thank you so much.
I think this a great tool to use even if you've never played in your life or if you're somewhat of an accomplished player. It's always good to work the basics.
Noticed many taking an interest in drumming and being over 50.. I've just looked this up as I do have a go years ago and loved it. I'm so pleased 8 can managed this rhythm haha..I'm obsessed. Brilliant x
This is really fun! I just realized I need a stronger sense of beats and rhythm so I searched for beginner drum video. The content is so fun and I would love to learn more about drums! I think in long term this will definitely help me to create my own music. Thank you so much :)
I started with two pencils on a book until I could make each hand do something different. From there it's been three kits and Years of Loving My drums.
Wow nice. It all started for me when I began a band with my friends. I was the lead and played cello but my friends weren’t really skilled at their instruments so i had to sometimes step in and kinda teach them their part. The drums in our band was struggling with the beat and it got so stuck in my head that I started playing that beat with my hands, pencils and whatever I could find. I’m not a drummer and I don’t even have a drum set but i love them so much and would definitely take professional lessons in the future rather than try to teach myself which I’ve been tryinn to do
This guy is a really good teacher. Thinking of buying a drum set. I play guitar, been playing for years, than i learned how to play the bass, now i want to learn the drums. I guess, because, you cannot find no one to play drums or bass, everyone wants to play guitars, because it is a sexy thing to do. But people find out guitar is not a instrument that a person can learn in a few months. It takes years, to learn how to play the guitar. To be able to play in a band. So my opinion is, if you want to play in a band, and you are older, and never played an instrument before. Learn the bass, learn the drums And then you will be playing music so much faster, to be able to make music, with someone else, you will not have to play under someone else, meaning, having a guitarist doing all the work, and your hiding behind that guitarist, with you weak guitar skills, acting like you can play guitar. Just my opinion, because i have been in these situations so mant times. Someone comes in with a brand new electric guitar and amp. Top brand names. You say to them, what do you know?. They say, just start playing and ill will show you. So you do, you start jamming with the drummer, waiting for the new guitarist guy to jump in, and when he does, you so to yourself, OMG, what is this guy doing? This has happened over and over. Than to be nice, you say to the guy, would you be interested in playing the bass, thinking to myself, this is what we need, and if i can teach him, to hit a couple of notes, back and fourth, which is much easier than playing chords, you think to yourself, this might be possible. But they says no, they say, i will never play the bass, i want to play the electric guitar, because it is the sexy thing to do. I always love the guitar, and my music videos, that is what i want to be. True experiences. Great video. 👍🎸
Been wanting to learn to play drums for a long time! My son was playing drums and decided to switch up to play bass guitar. His drums are still in basement collecting dust but it might be time for this 59 year old Dad to start to learn to play. I just watched this video and plan on working this video lesson on the drums...thanks!
Been in bands for years, mainly as a vocalist or playing guitar. I have been saying I wish I could play drums for years, but never taking the initiative to actually learn. I recently got a cheap / free drum kit and so I started watching these videos and learning rudiments this week. Thanks so much for these easy to understand videos.
Yeah, I used to have some issues with that challenge where you rub your belly and pat your head at the same time, but since I picked up drums it’s become insanely easy for me
Brilliant! Thanks so much Drumeo! I'm a 78 yr old sax player who's just bought his 15 yr old grandson an electronic drumkit. Couldn't resist having a go first and was completely clueless! This has given me a clear way in and should enable me to join him in his drums journey. Not expecting to keep up with him though!
I just inherited a beautiful set of Premier drums from my brother who passed recently at 80 years old. He was a professional country western drummer who I used to watch on TV. I have a little bit of music background and am looking forward to setting up and playing Corky Tittle's drums in his honor. I hope I can learn enough to do him proud!
Try 'Church at Home Live at the Johnson's' - okay, no drums but no congregation either & it's magic. If you don't like it, then it's back to Toad for you! :-)

I rewatched K-on for the 3rd time and I found some old drumsticks in my garage so finally time to learn the drums. everytime I watch the show it gives me the urge to play an instrument so hopefully this time I dont give up
Omg same
It's so 🌈inspiring🌠
I started playing music because of k-on too. Been playing guitar for almost a year now, really hoping to be in a band one day.
@@zenyth6 i love your yui pfp
That reminds me i should rewatch it again, Good to know a lot of people got inspired by the afternoon tea time band ^^
Thank you! I'm amazed and excited!
same age over here and agree! my first day today. How's your progress 3 mths on?
@@Fork9582 46 over here. Will start my first lesson next Sat. How's your first day.
I've learned to play a bit of the guitar and now I'm taking interest in drums I just wanna learn how to play a little bit of everything I guess lol cos life's short haha 😅
Your life will be short if you abandon drums like you did to guitar ;)
I’m learning guitar for like 8 months and now I’m starting to get into drums
You're just like me😂🥰
lmaooo same

Your first lesson was very relaxed, slow, well explained.
I'm 66 and the last few yrs had the desire to learn the drums for pure fun, and to let off steam..❤❤❤
Just started lessons, found a used set, 68 yrs old, loving it. This is a great lesson!
I've been playing for 20 odd years now and I remember learning this pattern from a VHS I got with my first ever kit. Hit me right in the nostalgia!
I just bought a drum snare kit and recieved drum sticks as a gift from a musician. We jammed in my backyard and it was so cool.
Just as I suspected: I absolutely don't have the coordination needed to play the drums! I will keep trying.
Get a metronome... its help to maintain the rhythm
Don't give up.. it will develop with time and practice.
My 2 month corona lockdown?? Yea, no improvement. I just can't get past step 2. It's fun (and frustrating) to try!
Same🤣 but not like I've tried cuz I canny afford one ahaha
You got this bro 💪
Oh and also remember to learn some music theory, especially rhythm. It'll make it sooo much easier just knowing how music goes together. And don't forget metronome practice
First time drummer here and omg this is amazing !!! I got it on the first go through and now I can’t stop. You’re the best!
You have actually inspired me to start classes again. I am going to teach this to my students!!! Back to basics!!!
Glad to hear that! :)
Thank you so much! Please make more videos for beginners!
Right
AnotherRussianGuy join Drumeo it’s worth every cent 😁
Awesome lesson for beginners. I've basically done the exact same thing when teaching friends who want to try it out. It's wonderful seeing the looks on their faces when they finally nail that simple fill for the first time and jump back into the beat. I'll probably keep teaching myself, but I would send this video to them as well afterwards. Good stuff Jared.
Yay!! me too - but at 60. Loved it!
I have drumsticks, but was using cushions and pot mitts as drums/cymbal to avoid disturbing the fam.....

The best beginner video I’ve found that my grandson likes. Thanks for making him interested!
I'm 54 yrs old and just took up drumming and this helped me tremendously ty
I can only count to 4 so I do this twice...
Lucky bastard. I can only count to 1 so i do that 8 times..
Sexy Savage I mean if u have to do it 8 times u know how to count something eight times XD
My tutor told me to do it 4 times its easier and its same thing
@@ZenLord he counts like this
1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1
One and. Do that 4 times and you got 8
I dont even have a drum set but im looking forward to learn them in the future when im living alone and cant annoy anyone
How about a cardboard box(shoes)/some pencils or your hands a plastic and (or) glas bottle and your foot.....
That's all you need for now xD
I was in a same situation, I got myself drum practice pad and sticks. Now I can play it without annoying anyone. And it's even better to get your basics in line before investing in a full kit.
This is a very good introduction lesson for beginners.
Very good teacher indeed!

Just bought my first drum set at 40 years old. Never to old to learn.
I have just ordered my drum set and i cant wait to start drumming so i decided to start my lessson 1 wuth this video ...thank you drumeo and jared keep inspiring 😭😭
New drummer hear...did not know how to incorporate a fill...this was EXCELLENT AND SO HELPFUL!!!! THANK YOU!!!!
Check out canabl corpse it's a really good beginner band
At 63 years old, getting ready to retire, I have finally acquired an electric set. Working on hand and foot coordination is a challenge. But I am able to work on it with your videos and repetition. thank you.
Thank you. 46 year old who would like to learn to play drums. As always I check the internet for information and found your channel. These are great inductory videos and appreciate your time in making them and offering for everyone free. FREE! Why 904 people would not like this video beggers belief. Anyway thanks again and have a good weekend.
Thank you, Jared. You are one of the most encouraging teachers I have come across! Your lessons are really helpful. Thanks again:)
yey!! finally something on my level :D
Lol
I know right 😎

When you're a drummer and you get an ad that teaches you how to play guitar:

Thank you! My husband has had drums in the house for years and I love to hear them. I’m 52 and said, I can do this! I’m excited to learn!
You r a great teacher....thank you!!
I play guitar.. I just love watching just incase my bandmate let me play his drumset at studio😂
Same I'm a shredder. I'm 16 and I just wanna know everything so I got myself a nice roland electric drum set
Thank you! I was able to follow along. It’s my first “official” lesson, and I learned a lot. Appreciate your time.
Brilliant x
👽 Just starting to play @ 60 and speeding up with stuff like this; keep 'em coming... The beat is on...
I’m not a drummer and I don’t even have a drum set but i love them so much and would definitely take professional lessons in the future rather than try to teach myself which I’ve been tryinn to do
This is so helpful! I’m already in my late 30’s and wanted to learn to play an instrument. You made it so easy! Thank you
i’ve been wanting to play drums for two years because of my cousin, im pretty sure i’m getting an electric drum set next month so this was helpful!
Yes. Got it. You’re a wonderful teacher. Thank you. Just got my drum kit and I’ve been practicing. Love it.
I've been playing for 2 years. Why am I here?...
**Keeps watching**
Ngl...... Him tapping his leg and the beat it created was fire
“I’m sure everyone here can count to eight”
Oh... okay...
it's just counting to eight three different ways at the same time that is getting me... but I will keep trying.
There are several TH-cam channels for people that can't count to eight.
I'm having some difficulty mastering the combination but I'm not quiting.
Thanks, this was a wonderful video.
Damn, playing the drums is like patting your head and rubbing your belly but in a coordinated and rhythmatic manner. •~•
Oh- @_@ sure...
Thank you for the lesson. I'm 63 and waiting for my drum set to come in the mail. So excited to start playing!!!
This is brilliant, great instruction! Very straightforward, thank you. Got my new drum kit arriving next week. 🥁😊
Yay, I did it! Brand new drum kit and this was my first lesson. It was great! Thank you!
So freaking cool!! Thank you!
Just unpacked my 1st drum set and this was the 1st video I looked up for help and I can’t wait to start…. Thanks again!
Great lesson from a complete noob who never thought she’d be able to play drums. Am now obsessed. Thank you!!
Church drummer was the only reason I tolerated church… lol
I love the drums, it’s only thing that’s ever made feel “alive” if you will.
Try 'Church at Home Live at the Johnson's' - okay, no drums but no congregation either & it's magic. If you don't like it, then it's back to Toad for you! :-)
are you me
preach brother!!
Practicing at two o'clock in the morning with my drum sticks finger edition and real drum app, blessed.
got my first drum kit today and have enjoyed a couple of your lessons thus far.
How’s it going?
Very good lesson and good drum teacher.
Love from Morocco 🇲🇦
My guy has been drumming for 20 years and is AMAZING...however it's hard to get him to teach the basics for me to really learn. I watched your video and I am hooked! Thank you so much and will be watching more! Thank you so much!
