I really want to be a pilot when I’m older so this video is amazing thank you! If anyone has any other suggestions about when to start training and other stuff please let me know. I’m wondering if I should start after college or during college right out of high school, or anything else.
I'd recommend at least getting your Private Pilot's Certificate through a local Part 61 flight school in high school. It's cheaper, more flexible so you can build a solid foundation for the basics of flying, and it'll let you get a feel for whether you actually enjoy flying or not.
I live in jersey city and I went around the other week with a self made word document I printed with a ton of questions I got from other TH-camrs and went to morristown and Caldwell airport to interview flight schools. I'm still not sure which school to go to but all I know that its hard to pay for all of this. I definitely have to go the loan option.
Thanks Garret for a lovely video and helpful information. Could you make a video about being a corporate and private jet pilot or how to get to that part of aviation please?! All the best.
QUESTION: How have you heard of airlines working with a recently trained pilot who really doesn't want to be home-based in a criminal dangerous city(LA, Chicago) that they will not live in?
Hello Garrett, I've been your regular viewer for a while now. Love what you do. I wanted to ask why you chose American Airlines if you don’t mind sharing. Of course it’s one of the major airlines but I wanted to know your reason for choosing AA over some other airlines in the USA like Delta.
Whats up garrett, I start my flight training on the 15th of this month and am planning to finance most of the cost of my flight training. How early do you think a student pilot should apply for loans before they need them, and is there any way to get discounted flight training for the first few certificates (private, instrument, commercial). I know you tallked about signing a contract with your flight school to get your CFI certificate for free and wanted to know if its possible to do it for the other certificates.
IMO, apply right away. If you dont get approved is that a deal-breaker?---Worth knowing. Apply to big 3...Sallie Mae, Meritage, and ??(cant remember)...or credit card it. Anyway, banks are tightening lending, so may slowly trickle into unsecured loans like flight training.
Quick question, the “Academy of Aviation” in Atlanta Georgia, do you think it’s a good flight school? I’ve looked into it. But I’m still not sure. Idk what to look for
Hey Garret i noticed u have a tatoo right under arm and immediately wanted to knw what the catch really is about pilots and tatoos cause i would love to get one but its not worth loosing my career b4 it even starts.im a student pilot by the way still working on my exams haven't started flying yet 😊😊
Thank you. IMPORTANT question. How do you pay for flight school. For context i'm 16 and just graduated high school. I wanna become a pilot. BUT idk how to pay or what steps to take?
Student pilot here, I have heard many people say that pilot training is easy for them and it makes me nervous because I’m working really hard. Is this normal to struggle?
I am 14 and dreams of flying. I have took 7 demo flights so far and my instructors say to start a program at around 15. Does anyone think I should wait a little bit longer or is that the right age to start?
I was wondering if it is possible to go straight to the Major Airlines after your Pilot training and if so how it would be possible to go straight there?
QUESTION: Do airlines compensate extra for home bases in high tax cities/states? My understanding is some cities tax income as well as California & NY tax income the most; while state like Texas/Florida doesn't tax income at all.
Is it hard to get the money to go to a flight school like ATP?, I'm 17 currently and don't really have such a great amount of money (i heard the loan is very close to the 100k at ATP)
Depends on your base. Almost all bases have employee parking. Some of those are free and some of those come with monthly fees to use the lot. But yes there is employee parking
Question: So I’ve already done the discovery flight and my flight training and now I have to do the medical certificate and I have one good eye with 20/20 vision and my other eye is blurry (not blind) can I still be a commercial pilot?
QUESTION: Is it practical, or kinda impractical, to commute/crash pad to a home base in another state?---I imagine OnCall would still incur expense of a crash-pad even if you dont work
My problem is the cost you got to be making a fortune in 2024 already just to get into it i got to pay every hour of training in the air for a minimum of 40 hours of fly time that adds up to quick for me and is currently the only thing in my way
I know you’re exaggerating, but it doesn’t have to cost a lot. There are loads of scholarships out there. Plus you don’t have to go to the name brand flight school *cough cough ATP* for 120k. You can do all your training at a part 61 school for less than 65k. Just gotta do some research and put in the effort to get some scholarships/take a loan out. Hope this helps.
