A year ago, while I passed out on my living room couch, I woke to that feeling you have when something is crawling on you. @@alexstasyszen902sure man, getting stung by a scorpion that kills people regularly is just another day at the beach. You’d be on your hands and knees crying like a little girl lol
Got stung right above my left knee by one of these on vacation when I was a teen. I guess I went down to take a knee and kneeled on it. I remember it lasting somewhere in the ballpark of 12-18 hours of searing pain in my leg and joints. There was no build up, it was instant. It’s almost like the pain you feel when your leg or arm falls asleep mixed with a pinched nerve pain crossed with an intense pulsating burning. I had these burning aftershock pains for 2 or 3 days after. I’ll be doing great if that never happens to me again.
oh damn, thanks for the details, ive had both, but thankfully in NY we dont really have anything like these.. but i can usually manipulate a pinched nerve depending on how you sit or stand to relieve some pressure.. i cant imagine that while adding the burning pulsing feeling, with no way to get rid of it at all.. sheesh.. glad you made it through man
@@johnlombardo7816 lol yup…no fun. As bad as that was, it was nothing compared to blacking out in a fire ant bed. Not that you asked, but here in Mississippi, you are always within feet of a fire ant bed during the summer. So it was the summer of 98…I thought it would be “cool” to jump out of my tree house and on to the trampoline below…it worked out about as well as you could imagine. Flew off of the trampoline and onto the ground and knocked out cold…directly into a fire ant bed…where I received somewhere in the ballpark of 200 stings. Spent 2 or 3 days in the hospital from the allergic reaction to the stings. At 40 years old, I STILL have scars left from some of the stings. Now THAT was some “sting zone” pain
@adamterry550 sheesh. I stepped in a fire ant pile/bed once in Florida.. one of the worst experiences of my life 3 days of itching burning pain! I feel for ya brother 🤣
IF you guys ever want to do a video explaining why you'll never do a diamondback bite test, I'm perfectly happy to go on camera explaining what it was like and provide photos and backstory.
Reminds me of a youtuber who got bit; if I remember correctly it was Bob Hansler. He pretty much went blind and his kidneys shut down... yeah, not to be played with.
I live in Las Vegas. Moved her in 2019 and I had already knew about this scorpion before I moved here but my dog (a very muscular American Bully) got stung by one not too long after moving here. She just kept drooling and I couldn't figure out what was wrong with her until she started nibbling at her wound. I got scared though! She acted like a champ and never once whined. She still had her appetite, too.
My dogger also got stung. I knew immediately what it probably was. Turned off the light, and shined the UV and yup, there it was up against the toekick under cupboard. So of course a few months later, I too had to take one for the team. It wasn't pleasant, but nothing like in this video. Maybe a 5/10 pain.
I live down here in the western side of Phoenix. My second year being here I had one of these crawl into my pillow case and sting me in the morning right smack in the middle of my cheek. My entire face swelled up like a balloon and the pain was… immeasurable. Like I just got stabbed with a searing hot steak knife. Took almost about a week for the pain and swelling to subside. I wouldn’t wish my worst enemy to be stung by one of these.
Sometimes you can tell he’s actually excited to try it out. This one he was definitely not excited. That man felt genuine fear that I would never face.
I honestly had no idea ANY scorpion could cause this much pain or lead to so many deaths. I'm astonished it dethroned the bullet ant! Wow! I will definitely be more observant and cautious during my visits to the Southwest. Thank you, Brave Wilderness, for taking such excruciatingly painful bites and stings for the BSI while also educating all of us about these fascinating, deadly creatures. You and your team get a solid, well-deserved 10/10 here on TH-cam.
Just check your shoes or anything you lay on/leave on the floor you’ll be fine. Also, this is an arachnid, so I feel like we’re in a higher tier of animal over insects. This is not nearly the worst scorpion. That goes to the death stalker scorpion, not US native though.
@donnieharness2 So, you're saying if YOU take a sting from this one, you'll have minimal reactions from the pain and just shrug it off because it's "not that bad"? Please, do post your own video of you taking a sting, and then I'll compare your reaction to Mark's. I'm serious. I'll be one of your first viewers, too.
Is there any Insect on Planet Earth left that these guys haven’t been stung or bitten by? 😂 They’ve definitely built up a crazy immune system to battle these venomous stings and bites.
Actually, I've heard a rumor of a population of 3-legged giant cyclop's that live on a remote Indonesian island that's bite is so painful it will actually drive you insane.... but once again it's only a rumor but might be worth checking out......
i have NEVER seen mark react like that bro he'd even take multiple stings if he felt it didnt hit right but i knew a new king would be crowned today just by the way he reacted
The fatality rate for bark scorpions is exceptionally low. I was just stung last month, and the ER just told me to take Benadryl and ice my hand. It's only deadly for immunocompromised and allergic people, and to that end, honeybees are much more deadly.
I have been stung before stepped right on one years ago. I agree with Mark Vins it’s that bad and I did go to the hospital as a precaution! Luckily I wasn’t allergic to the venom but a very painful sting and the venom completely immobilizes your limbs I couldn’t walk on both feet until day 3 just radiating pain. Aftermath there was a tingling in my foot where I was stung for a whole month I thought I had nerve damage but the tingling went away. 10 out of 10 for me
I grew up in Sahuarita, a small town south of Tucson. As a teen my friends and I would have late night bonfires within the washes in the desert behind our houses. I'm genuinely surprised we never came across any scorpions while collecting wood to burn- or any creepy crawlies for that matter. The only time I've encountered a bark scorpions has been indoors unfortunately.
Wow. Yeah, here in Arizona they're pretty feared! Kudos for taking it like a champ. That one got you pretty good. And unlike some sting vids, I assure anyone reading this, it really is that bad. It's a miserable sting. They're also super common in homes here. They can flatten down to the width of a credit card. They climb into anything. They're often found in beds, shoes, furniture, on walls and ceilings, falling out of vents, skittering under doors, and crawling up drains. They're highly poison-resistant because they don't groom themselves. They have a wax coating that prevents liquids from getting in or out of the scorpion carapace, making poisons even less effective. They can live underwater for multiple days. They can survive being frozen and thawed out. They can go most of a year without any food. They're communal, meaning they don't eat each other unlike most scorpions. Needless to say, fighting an infestation is like waging war against the most determined guerilla warriors imaginable. The folk wisdom here in the Valley is to hunt them outdoors every night in the summer, or at least once a week. Get a blacklight and some brake cleaning spray--it's the most effective for killing them on contact as it dissolves their wax coating and poisons them. You can also burn them with a creme brulée torch. One of the few poisons that's actually effective against them is called cykick, find it at Bug and Weed Mart here. Mix it yourself, get a sprayer, and spray at least once a month during summer. Don't rely on pest control. Another effective (but slow) method is using Food-grade diatomaceous earth as if they were salt lines in Supernatural. A scorpion can cross the barrier and survive, but will likely eventually die after a few weeks. Also, cats are effective against indoor scorpions as long as they're not idiots, and chickens go crazy for them outdoors. Good luck if you're living in or moving to the Phoenix Valley of the Sun, and stay un-stung!
I Iived in Eastern AZ for awhile and the desert was basically the backyard. We would see them in the bathtub sometimes alive, sometimes drowned..My Bro would want to kill them but i like scorpions so would take them outside a piece from the house. They are like spiders in the sense will usually avoid contact and are really not aggressive little creatures to humans. That being said we always tapped our boots before putting them on.
My youngest sister was stung by one of these in New York when she was a baby, guessing it was someone's pet and it got loose then made its way into our Condo. Had no idea what was happening, She did swell up which made it easier to find the sting spot. Doctors figured it out somehow. We found the scorpion later and killed it. She got lucky.
Live in the same state as these buggers. Quite literally when I had moved into my current living situation, neighbors all around were also moving into their homes and doing a lot of renovations - which kicked up a nest of them and since then has led to them invading my home often. We had to even check and make sure they were actually bark scorpions and not some other relative scorpion, but nope we legit have this around our area. Worse than that, out of everyone within my home I have been the *only* one stung the most. If I recall right I've been stung likely a total of between 11 to 12 times - not even exaggerating. I am lucky that I am not allergic to them, or at least haven't developed an allergic reaction as far as I can tell. To best describe the pain it feels as if the nerves are being constantly twisted and pulled through hot lava for so many hours. I've been stung by both adults and babies - the worst areas are any small spots where a lot of nerves are bundled together (like on your toes which was unbelievably painful that I had been stung in the pinkie toe twice). The most recent incident I had was when I was sitting at my desk on my computer when I had shifted my legs and when brushing my leg over the other, I must've spooked the scorpion since it gave a quick sting to back of my calf. I could tell it was a scorpion then from the sharp pain that started in my leg. And stupidly, I used my right hand to swipe it off. In doing so, the scorpion got me in the space between my thumb and index finger. My reaction in the immediate aftermath was the intense burning and twisted pain which I had been used to by this point beyond the many times I've been stung before. But then came the numbness and massive swelling to my hand, before I suddenly began to itch on my feet and hands. It had felt like a more severe reaction - basically almost allergic - and that's when I had freaked out a lot more than I had before. With some Benadryl and icing on my hand, eventually the pain stopped but my hand remained swollen for three days. Long story short, I always have at least interesting tales of how I dealt with each sting and each encounter with these Scorpions. But I dread each summer when we have to hunt them down and avoid being stung in the middle of the night. We can't have massive sprays scheduled andor bug bombs done to our home due to our pets that we have. But we make do with the Terro Sprays as that seems to be the best budget spray to keep the scorpions out from our home.
I’m from Durango, Mexico, and here we call them alacranes, they are very very common to see inside houses, like spiders, Durango is very famous for the amount and size of the alacranes, also in some restaurants serve them in tacos🦂
I have been stung by this scorpion I live in Arizona and I’m telling you it feels like you got hit by a lightning bolt to the foot. I never knew what type of scorpion it was until you explain how this sting was and now I realize it was a BARK Scorpion. It was my fault I got stung. I went outside barefoot because my tree fell down right in front of my house. That’s when it stung me

Mark-"a Sting from this scorpion could put you in the hospital or even kill you." Also Mark-"AHHHHH... I KNOW IT WOULD BE BAD BUT I DIDN'T KNOW IT WAS GOING TO BE THIS BAD!"
This takes me back. It was 11 hours of pain for me. Numbness didn't go away for about a week. It's was the most excruciating pain I've ever felt. Check your bed before sleeping because they climb on the ceiling and drop on soft surfaces like laundry, furniture and beds. 😬🦂
I live in AZ. Got stung by one of these twice and it was rough…but the red harvester ant was a lot worse. Lasted longer and the pain was just different. My wife agrees. She’s felt both. Kidney stones were the only thing I’ve felt that hurt more. Didn’t see that you’ve ever gotten bit by one. You’ve officially been challenged.
I have a pet bark scorpion. Obviously, never been stung, but they do often give "dry" stings as warnings. I've seen my dog take a "dry" sting straight to the nose as he curiously approached one climbing on a wall (yep, they can climb). Fascinating little critters! The type of bark scorp I have even carries and nurtutes its' young (like the Wolf spider), which is not something other scorpions do.
I've tested the tan colored scorpion sting. It just made me have nerve effect which I slept through for 3 day of the campout, but then the rest of the week I enjoyed the camping trip.
@@FlygonkingVGC Yea but the cone shell is a roulette table of effects. Pain maybe...but also maybe it doses you with insulin and drops your blood sugar, maybe it makes you sleepy, maybe it decides to deliver a pain killer along with adrenaline...maybe you get a multitude of other effects.
What hurts more than being stung by a bark scorpion ? Running into a cholla cactus. The tail of the scorpion consists of only the bulbous part with the stinger. The rest of the "tail" is actually part of the abdomen. I miss being able to run around the desert critter hunting. It was a big part of my life into my late teens. The river bottom was like a second home. I'd go out several times a week turning over stuff in the wash trying to find snakes, scorpions, lizards, anything. My health keeps me indoors now. At least I have some great memories.

Rule of thumb with scorpions: The smaller and weaker the pincers, the stronger the venom.
Except for the gadim scorpion. An absolute oddball among scorpions.
Only in america. Other places. Not so much.
Yes! And the pain is deep!
oh damn, thanks for the details, ive had both, but thankfully in NY we dont really have anything like these.. but i can usually manipulate a pinched nerve depending on how you sit or stand to relieve some pressure.. i cant imagine that while adding the burning pulsing feeling, with no way to get rid of it at all.. sheesh.. glad you made it through man
@@johnlombardo7816 lol yup…no fun.

Respect that Mark can take this pain and not curse once
I live down here in the western side of Phoenix. My second year being here I had one of these crawl into my pillow case and sting me in the morning right smack in the middle of my cheek. My entire face swelled up like a balloon and the pain was… immeasurable. Like I just got stabbed with a searing hot steak knife. Took almost about a week for the pain and swelling to subside. I wouldn’t wish my worst enemy to be stung by one of these.
Sometimes you can tell he’s actually excited to try it out. This one he was definitely not excited. That man felt genuine fear that I would never face.
You actually DO experience this 3D world we live in! You are either crazy or brave. Anyhow, great video!
I honestly had no idea ANY scorpion could cause this much pain or lead to so many deaths. I'm astonished it dethroned the bullet ant! Wow! That poor scorpion is going to have one hell of a UFO encounter story to tell its friends😅
Mark: Oh yeah here is a scorpion that has killed people, lemme get stung and potentially die 💀
The fatality rate for bark scorpions is exceptionally low. I was just stung last month, and the ER just told me to take Benadryl and ice my hand. It's only deadly for immunocompromised and allergic people, and to that end, honeybees are much more deadly.
No allergic = no death. Just like with bees.
He know that, thats why they have epi pens.
Man, if that was coyote he would have died on the spot lol. That was his reaction for a hornet LOL
Scorpion in the tweezers as he's running around in pain, "I believe I can flyyyyyyyyyy!"😂
Wow crazy to see something finally dethrone the bullet ant, I've been waiting for this day lol
When me and my family moved to Arizona within the first year we found a scorpion
better to just have nothing to do with Phoenix Valley LOL!!!! Heck no I won't go.
Scrubbing Bubbles kills these scorpions. I just had two of them a few days ago.

Just recently I was walking next to my little nephew and literally saw one on his shoulder I quickly slap it off him.... luckily he was not stung
Coyote and he are the only ppl who can survive a zombie apocalypse if it ever happened.
I’m from Durango, Mexico, and here we call them alacranes, they are very very common to see inside houses, like spiders, Durango is very famous for the amount and size of the alacranes, also in some restaurants serve them in tacos🦂
