With Nightwish there would not be any fighting with who is mixed the loudest. They are a bunch of friends and highly professional people with no egos...Just a magical band.
Looks like you are not a very good of judging peoples personalities 😅...omg...hes opposite of self-centered person. My information is based on what hes friends have told me, and it can be seen with him
Floor has been mixed as an instrument in orchestra. This shows maturity and understanding of a greater whole. I saw an interview with the mastering engineer, who has mastered all of Nightwish's albums, and he said it well. The orchestra in this album is more part of the band, rather than a band backed by an orchestra. Floor is another instrument in the mix within the whole suite.
Personally, I'm in the "shut up and listen" brigade, but it seems that a lot of fans think of Nightwish as "Floor Jansen and her band." (To be fair, the live performances could leave one with that impression!) I can't (and don't) blame people for wanting more Floor - lucky for us she has a raft of side projects, where she can turn that voice loose and let it soar.
We are used to Floor singing the older songs live and her voice is always front and center, high in the mix. For the newer songs the song is balanced between her voice and the instruments as it should be. Tuomas spent a lot of time creating the music so both must be heard. I predict that whenever they start touring and performing these songs that Floor's voice will be front and center again. 😄🤘
Troy explained it for me in an interview. In my own words...The mix is exactly where they want it to be; think of an Orchestra and Tuomas is the conductor/writer and the members are the instruments. No one is up front, so that u can focus while listening seperate on the different instruments. And not on that is upfront. Loved your reaction as usual! 🤘🎩
Get a bit sick about all the critics about the mix. Tuomas and also Troy explained very well that it was all intentionly. As Troy said in his last interview: In some songs some people say she is low in the mix, but she's not, she is exactly where she should be, her place in each song changes in some songs she is really in front, but in the bigger widescreen vastness of yesterwynde she is exactly where she needs to be and that is as part of the whole sound rather than sat on top she needs to be audible, you should be able to hear every aspect of this record and you shouldn't be distracted by a vocal that's too loud this applies to most music. You've got to be more sensitive as to how you mix something depending on the music and this music specific is very symphonic and this album is more emotional than any other nightwish album, and Floor is perfectly situated in the mix. In some songs you just need to hear every single instrument cello, violin, hobo, vocal etc to get the whole picture. Reading this comment of Troy I hope from now on the discussion about the mix will stop, and just give your opinion about if you like the song yes or no and respect the choice of the composer and the rest of the band.
Exactly. I watch a lot of reactors that are very knowledgeable in their field, and I often watch them because of their knowledge and insight. Reactors who are car salesmen or amateur gynecologists reacting to the sound engineering, of which they clearly know f@*$ all, and repeating what they have heard other reactors say to try and sound knowledgeable irritates me to the point of never watching their videos again.
Sidenote: Floor just came down with Lucy a week before she was booked to the studio for 2 weeks to sing her parts. All the rest was already recorded. After 6 days she was ready with the whole project. Need more to know about our queen? The male singer was Troy. Tuomas never sings since 20 years....
Enough of the mix whining. Tuomas was every day part of the 4-6 months of mixing, so if he as the composer and artist wants the Lead vocals to be quieter in the mix than people are used to, then that is the way the art is presented - if some one does not like it, they can stop listening or they can listen the old songs - off you go and choose another topic finally.. "you" = commenters.
The mix is exactly as they wanted it, and i don't even think about it, and i don't really know what you're talking about, it all sounds amazing to me!😮
i cannot understand all this thing with the sound problem. are your headphones had a problem? in my headphones and speakers everything sounds crystal clear. i am really tired of all those people whining. i like you and your channel, you are really both great people but i dont think is anything wrong with the mix. maybe all those people who complain need to buy some better sound equipment
Not able to listen to this with dry eyes, it’s so fragile and strong at the same time. What a gorgeous piece of music composed by Tuomas and so emotionally sung by Floor.
At this point in Nightwish history, I find it confounding that people keep trying to say Tuomas mixed HIS work wrong...as if he's a rookie at creating albums. Besides, I'm SURE it will sound different LIVE, just like their other studio albums.
This song is actually the conclusion of the album. It's about our lost loved ones and how they live on through us. Tuomas lost his father between this album production and the previous one release. That's probably the event that served as a foundation for this track. It goes full circle because the album starts with a movie projector sounds and closes with one. Definitely got a "something is ending" vibe to it...
I feel like this song is a ode to everyone who lost theier parrents!! Floor sings the sentence, i was the one who climbed of your back not long ago, same words used in the song Our decades in the sun, and that song is surely a ode to our parrents, that basicly why i say its about lost parrents, who became stardust.. Could be a song written by tuomas to hes father, who recently died.. I love this song, this and a Ocean of strange islands is my 2 favorites from new album. Btw, NW did change the mix a bit on perfume of the timeless for the album, Troy did a comment in a interview, where he said, the mix is done quite equal yes, and thats because you then can pick what to focus on in the songs, if you want to focus the drum part, the bass, the orchestra, or Floor, you can.
Please stop with stupid comment about floor voice in the mix being too low, maybe buy some good earphone or don't listen if you don't like ???, those are fanboy who do not care about music, art or what Nightwish want to offer... In those kind of music and gender you will never have a voice in the mix like in pop, you are too used to radio music, pop.
Well, it's not a stupid comment, it's a comment from their taste, for me it's good as it is, but i love every thing Nightwish does. Greetings from Colombia
tuomas can say like kimi räikkönen I KNOW WHAT IM DOING :) what ever we hear is like tuomas want us to hear. thanx to great reaction and have wonderful sunday.
Shit shit shit, now I'm crying again. I'm running out of tears this way... Nightwish keeps amazing. Soooooo beautifull. The voices, but also the composition. The orchestra..... The piano, everything. No complaints about the mix either. This is epic beauty. Tuomas: you are one of a kind!!!
Are you cooking the phone on the radiator? Floor said recently that this gets to her so quickly, a few retakes were needed :) Theatrical. Narnia! Flickering light from the projector, filmic, cinematic, the magic lantern. Watch on the snow, frozen in time. Floor has many voices and styles, blending _with_ the instruments. Ebbs and flows, Pigs and troughs :) A loud warm whisper of Troy? Hauntingly beautiful, yep.
Enjoyed your reaction! Final song from the final album of the trilogy. It feels to me like someone saying goodbye to family and friends as their life comes to the end. Loads of beautiful imagery in the lyrics of seeing the end, of reminding those we love that we will always be present, of lamenting the unfinished things we leave behind (as is always the case), and then walking "to the trees". Since Tuomas is famous for writing lyrics for multiple interpretations I could also see this song where the narrator is death personified, much like the way the lyrics in Music were. A third way I see it is that the lyrics aren't necessarily about a person but are instead a metaphor for humanity and our walk through the eons of our existence which would fit well with the themes of the album trilogy. For me the line "I am you who climbed off your back" gives me Decades in the Sun vibes and of course "To the meadows I go" is taping into the same symbolism and meaning as Meadows of Heaven. Heartachingly beautiful song and a perfect bookend to the album and trilogy.
Yes you are correct, but she's not low on this song at all...also,,getting stuck on that in the middle of listening to one of the most beautiful songs ever is kinda...wow really?
Thanks for sharing your reaction to a song that for me empowers us to recognize our connection to nature and one another, ultimately signifying that even in times of uncertainty, there is beauty and hope to be found under the glow of the lanternlight.
this album is sonically very good lyrically top tier conceptual the art and visuals here if anyone has ever actually held a lanternlight up in there hand or the person is like a lanternlight
Troy got his umpteenth vocal attachment, which in this case didn't manage to ruin a great little ballad. For those who love Troy's voice and Tuomas' extensive use of him as a vocalist on this album, here's Floor for you: "If it were up to me, Troy might've been singing a bit less on the new album. He can sing quite nicely, but that's about it as far as I'm concerned." - Floor Jansen (Aardschok Metal Magazine, Aug/Sept edition). In Dutch: "Hij zingt heel aardig, maar daar hebben we het wat mij betreft wel mee gehad." This is what Dutchies say about a somewhat accomplished amateur.
To me , every time I hear Troy , it just takes the life out of the song .....he's not a good singer and it's even more apparent when he's side by side with Floor
Hi Dave and Ash. I ball my eyes out with this song. Tribute to Tuomas' father's passing. But I also wish to point out the mixing on this album seems to me to use Floor as "another" instrument rather than projecting the vocals. which is also brilliant.
The mix in this album is perfect. If you want an album of Floor singing solo, this is not it. That's like bitching that a Pink Floyd album doesn't have all Gilmour solos. A voice is an instrument like any instrument. It may not be always front and center. Of course you can always create an album and mix it your way.
Troy said that in the album, instead of the band sitting on the orchestral/choral track, Nightwish is embedded in the orchestra, and Floor is, like all of them, another instrument in the whole. Not above it all.
In my opinion this album has been mixed to be listened to on speakers rather than headphones. The soundstage of headphones is far too narrow to cope with the scope of this album. For me the whole thing sounds better on decent big speakers where you can hear the whole width of the soundscape.
This is probably the best mixed track on the Album, and fine to me, some of them are objectively badly done though. Its got little to do with the vocals being quiet, its to do with the entire sound stage being crushed so the instruments aren't 'creating a sound' they are competing for space.
This is not pop music. This is a masterpiece by a genius songwriter performed by one of the best groups of our generation. I think Tuomas knows how to mix a song. Perhaps today’s bubblegum chart music has untuned our ears and we are so used to hearing rubbish. Do you think that this will ever be played on mainstream radio in the UK. Nope, nor me.
If you don't recognize Troy, then you haven't listened to enough Nightwish: Nightwish - Harvest - Live in a Virtual World 2021 Marko left the band in 2021. Officially because he was no longer willing to work for investors who do nothing for the musicians and only collect money. That's why he didn't want to make music anymore. In fact, he had been in treatment for depression for years. After his retirement, he received a new diagnosis and therapy and is currently touring the world with Tarja. The new album is too "Disney" for me. Fewer choirs and violins would have done the album good. Because Floor is mixed more quietly, it also lacks the common thread.
What a wonderful song. It would fit 100% to Floor's solo concerts and I am convinced that in 1 or 2 years she will also sing it solo on stage. But I have to admit that I generally like the music of Nightwish Live on stage a hundred times better. In studio recordings, I simply lack the personality of the band members. The true art has to be proven on stage, where there is no hiding.
I find the mix in this track absolutely on point.
me too
With Nightwish there would not be any fighting with who is mixed the loudest. They are a bunch of friends and highly professional people with no egos...Just a magical band.
no egos? 😂 yeah right
Tuomas Holopainen: hmmmm
Looks like you are not a very good of judging peoples personalities 😅...omg...hes opposite of self-centered person. My information is based on what hes friends have told me, and it can be seen with him

WTF. This young lady makes me cry😭every time. And seeing the lines on her face?
She is a beautiful woman inside and out.
It's better to listen to a stereo equipment with speakers.
Never met her, face to face, so I have to take your word for it as regards her inner beauty but there's no question about her outer trappings!🥰🧐👍♊❤️
We are used to Floor singing the older songs live and her voice is always front and center, high in the mix. Loved your reaction as usual! 🤘🎩
Yes, good interview ❤❤
I hear everything in the track just fine.
I concur
Same here 🖐️
Ditto
Yes. It's just that peoples attention span and ability to adjust what they're hearing has gone to shitter. Hand in hand with the IQ too. Sad times.
Get a bit sick about all the critics about the mix. Tuomas and also Troy explained very well that it was all intentionly. I concur. It reminds me of Gandalf: "A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to."
Exactly. I could not have said it better.
I read this after after my post. You nailed mate. Kudos

Yes, this!
Yess!! exactly, and it is perfect the way it is!
Yes I agree
Couldn’t agree more! 👍

I don't have any sound problems with any of the songs on their CD. I have Sony head phones and run everything through my JVC amp.
Not able to listen to this with dry eyes, it’s so fragile and strong at the same time.

Hauntingly beautiful, yep.
Love Floor's lower register in this and Troy's voice is a perfect compliment.
This is the kind of song I was hoping for on this new Nightwish album. The Weave is another favorite.
I'm addicted to The Weave.
Enjoyed your reaction! Final song from the final album of the trilogy. It feels to me like someone saying goodbye to family and friends as their life comes to the end. The voice mix was deliberate. They wanted her to blend in and not to be up front... It's not my favorite artistic choice, but it is what it is.
Yes you are correct, but she's not low on this song at all...also,,getting stuck on that in the middle of listening to one of the most beautiful songs ever is kinda...wow really?
An Interview with Troy on You Tube helps to shed light on the mixing.
Thank you for your reaction, a beutiful song.. Greetings from nwAse Sweden
Hi guys, everytime I come back watching your reactions, I just find that I have missed you both❤
What a beatiful song 💖
Thanks for sharing your reaction to a song that for me empowers us to recognize our connection to nature and one another, ultimately signifying that even in times of uncertainty, there is beauty and hope to be found under the glow of the lanternlight.
🤗🍒🤘🏻😘 Great Job again, what an amazing song huh 🎶🎼And the male voice was Troy's!
Tears as always. I love this band.
👍An awesome performance and video. 🖖❤
Hi I really like Floor's lower register . Floor's voice is another instrument for Tuomas
"I do the idea's" 😂
"Just sort it out, boy" 😂😂😂😂😂
Haven't started it, and already enjoy this.. 😁
i have to correct myself, Troy is actually a singer -> just needs the right music behind him and thereyougo
This song is as if a North itself had a voice - absolutely beautiful song
this album is sonically very good lyrically top tier conceptual the art and visuals here if anyone has ever actually held a lanternlight up in there hand or the person is like a lanternlight
Thanks ❤❤❤
Troy got his umpteenth vocal attachment, which in this case didn't manage to ruin a great little ballad. For those who love Troy's voice and Tuomas' extensive use of him as a vocalist on this album, here's Floor for you:

Cracks fingers to make a comment about the mix.. oh wait there are already about 50 people who did the same thing. MAYBE I WON’T 😂
Hi Dave and Ash. I ball my eyes out with this song. Tribute to Tuomas' father's passing. But I also wish to point out the mixing on this album seems to me to use Floor as "another" instrument rather than projecting the vocals. which is also brilliant.

Can't see a problem with the mix . Sublime
They mixed it like this on purpose. The voice is part of the orchestra.
Troy said that in the album, instead of the band sitting on the orchestral/choral track, Nightwish is embedded in the orchestra, and Floor is, like all of them, another instrument in the whole. Not above it all.
Um, Tuomas founded Nightwish.
Tuomas, Emppu and Tarja.
""Yes, the audio quality on TH-cam can change , "" - Their packing system of theirs is from two decades ago...
Hi guys. How about Norm MacDonald's professor of logic joke?
In my opinion this album has been mixed to be listened to on speakers rather than headphones. The soundstage of headphones is far too narrow to cope with the scope of this album. For me the whole thing sounds better on decent big speakers where you can hear the whole width of the soundscape.
I love this song but somehow no tears like other Nightwish songs give me. It is just very beautiful ending of the album. Maybe too beautiful..
This is probably the best mixed track on the Album, and fine to me, some of them are objectively badly done though. Its got little to do with the vocals being quiet, its to do with the entire sound stage being crushed so the instruments aren't 'creating a sound' they are competing for space.

Gives me a little vibe of Night13.
If you don't recognize Troy, then you haven't listened to enough Nightwish:

It's better to listen
Sounds similar to her song,"The fight goes on for Warchild."
Yes, similar sound
🤘😊🇫🇮💙🪄🎼✨💯👍
No Nightwish or Ren playlist???????
I Iowe TUOMAS HOLOPAINEN music.
Can you please react to Magnetized by Garbage , music video version please 😊
Manta sleep
You spend too much time trying to pick it apart. This isn't the Floor show but Nightwish. Voice and instruments work together.
What is your Problem? You talking about mix.😢 Not about the song and the Lyrics 😂
Fix a sunscreen best man, takes not much time
What a wonderful song. It would fit 100% to Floor's solo concerts and I am convinced that in 1 or 2 years she will also sing it solo on stage.
