I have actually the GPU working in Armbian, there are instructions, but the drivers are not yet complete, of course.

In the config file, switch the language "chinese" to english the folder " languages " explains this, though a simple readme file in the main folder would have been good enough for me. Still looking to connect some camera's for the thing...

No matter how appealing the specs sound, it all comes down to software support 🙏 and in that regard, Raspberry Pi is unmatched.

I've been waiting for my RPi for 18 months now. Actually getting the hardware is the most appealing

@@alpachino468 most IT products including most phones are made in China now. Many Raspberry Pis and nearly all RPi components are also made in China . The majority of RPIs are made in UK.
In my experience all AliExpress IT products have been good. Try to always buy from official manufacturer's shop or one with high score

I installed Android on NVMe SSD, and so far it works as intended (although it is tricky because you have to first install the 1.0.0 image and then upgrade. Not only is this not specified on the official website, but the 1.0.0 image is no longer even available). I will probably try Linux if proper GPU support ever comes along (Armbian looks like the best bet). I'm very pleased with this thing as it's ultra portable and can play PS2, 3DS, Wii games.

Being able to do stuff up to five times faster compared to the rpi 4 is enough "pi killer" for me, thank you very much. And logically, software support may be a problem if you are still using decade-old hardware for whatever reason.

Many WiFi dongles are now working after firmware upgrades. There are plenty of YT videos showing how to install distros onto the NVME memory card. There have been much better software and documentation support on this OPI. Video acceleration is working now on most distros.
Still no BT dongle support for mine anyway. I use audio cable to speakers.
There will be a M2 card for BT and WiFi but that will mean no memory card.

So I have newbie question: Once the OS is installed on the OPi5, why would any software including RPi4 software not work on the OPi5???
Why would the SW care about which HW it is running on ???

Use Armbian as OS for this board. Armbian is probably #2 in fast support after raspbian. Much much better than the OrangePi joke of an OS.

@@jrwagh333 I personally have 3 x86 pcs. Two of them are running as my homelab servers and one also acts as my router. I did a test on power consumption a year ago and I don't remember the numbers on top of my head. But I was saving like 50 cents per month with a lower powered arm chip for which I would have to spend around $100 more for the same kind of setup that I had. To break even it would take me two years. And I really don't care about that 50 cents or even a dollar per month to have the ability to run full x86 programs on my servers.
