- President Biden spent 10 hours taking a train to Kyiv to underline his message that the US will stand by Ukraine “for as long as it takes”.

The surprise visit came just days before the first anniversary of Russia's invasion, and Mr Biden was quick to honour the courage and sacrifice of Ukrainians, while threatening further sanctions against anyone helping the Russian war effort.

I'm not happy about the US having to give Ukraine billions and billions of aid, but I know that it has to be done. When Ukraine gave up their nuclear capabilities we guaranteed Ukraine securities. I'm just glad that the US has stepped up and did what they said they would do.

@@stephen2975 Those are standard talking points for anti-American trolls. We have near record levels of employment, more jobs than we can fill, better salaries than in most developed countries, and, where I live, we never stop building infrastructure: bridges on top of bridges; suspended highways build over surface highways; stadiums for high schools that rival those of European sports teams.
I'm not saying all of those things are necessarily good, specifically for the environment, but the economy is strong regardless of how much we complain. We complain constantly because we always want it to be better.

Those are FBI national figures. 9,000 in a country of 320 million citizens who are free enough to buy firearms which rival anything the police carry. That equates to a remarkably free and peaceful society when viewed in proper context.
The bigger number you quoted, which I usually hear as being 30,000-35,000 includes suicides by firearms, by far the greatest number of firearm-related deaths. Nevertheless, our suicide rate is no higher and often significantly lower than many developed countries. So there you go.
