Guys I'm just wondering how to deal with the sand in engine bay after a beach drive? I took my brand new Subaru Outback to the Bribie. It did surprisingly well. Never bogged. Except the sand in engine bay looks crazy. I'm thinking to upgrade the suspension plus a 2 inch lift. Is it gonna work? or have a metal sump guard? Thanks
I can’t really blame the idiots in their all wheel drives, because the way these things marketed and lied to by unscrupulous salespeople is just plain wrong. The other side of the coin is the clowns with trailers that refuse to let the trailer tyres down. I have never been bogged at Inskip, even with a 1500kg Jayco behind me. @@Handleyman Best tyres on the beach are.. believe it or not... road tyres. Problem with aggressive mud tyers is when you begin to bog the tred acts like shovels and will actually bog you faster. Great for mud when you need the bite and grip but no good for a beach vehicle

Man,that silver 80 series....... Yes you have a turbo, no need to keep getting on and off the throttle to try and sound cool. The 90kw is still barely spinning the wheels
I'm surprised how folk don't realize momentum versus power; and how to properly get the max out of a snatch strap. I used to run 18psi normal and down to 10psi when it got really gluey. Mind you the sidewalls cop a kaning... Good video though, thanks for posting.
That car had open (non-locking) differentials so for each wheel that spun, the wheel on the other side did not, so it wasn't a matter of front versus rear. There was always one rear tire and one front wheel spinning - it just varied as to which side did which, and that kind of variation is not such a rare thing to see. As a side note, that's the norm with solid axles with open diffs, because solid axles put more weight on one side than the other in response to torque applied by the drive shaft, with the result being that diagonally-opposite tires have more load (and the other diagonally-opposite tires have less, and they are the tires that slip), and that diagonal arrangement reverses itself depending on which direction the vehicle tries to go (this is not the case here since it's an independent suspension, but something to watch for on other vehicles with open diffs).
Wow I've never seen so many experts in the one place like in this comment section. The way you're carrying on I bet not one of you have ever been bogged ay? Amazing.

I think people are well on the asphalt road and when they enter the sand they don't lower the tire pressure. Maybe there are no gas stations to inflate your tires, I am unaware of the reality there, but it seems so natural to let 25 psi of pressure! When I see these wonderful and equipped cars I imagine they have tire pressurizers in the car!
I learnt a long time ago: rehearse and stage manage. It's good to be a sand king, but only if you're at 12 and know what you're doing. Then, it's good to be sand king.
The Pathfinder didn't even need much throttle. He obviously aired down properly so got plenty of floatation. So only needed gentle smooth power and momentum. The Landcruiser was wasting his time. Couldn't even get any drive himself so impossible to pull out bogged vehicle. Once your wheels are spinning you need to stop and air down to as lowest-10 - 12 psi. Otherwise end up with a burnt out clutch
I think it was an XTrail which does have some capability but the driver had none. They were not in danger so I would leave them with the tow truck phone number.
