  • Hello everyone!
    Today I want to take you on a walk to a Brutalist architecture icon, the Barbican Estate, built between 1969 and 1976.
    London is much more bearable, again! The temperature is back to the low 20C.
    Filmed in the Barbican, City of London, in the afternoon of 15th August 2020 with a GoPro Max.

    I ❤ watching this, the buildings look cold, unwelcoming yet so beautiful at the same time. It sort of gives this Gotham city feel and look.

    Could've done without the "influencers" dancing to their nonsense. Though, the contrast between their upbeat energy and the dystopian land-scape around them is very appropriate this day and age. March happily and onwards towards armageddon.

      If this was in hackney, Tottenham or Peckham it would literally be a war zone within 10 years. It’s because only rich people live there it’s “done right”.

    Thanks for sharing really enjoyed it,just like being there,very special place, shame it wasn't the nicest day for it as it did make it look rather bleak, I wonder if they will ever clean or refinish the concrete surfaces that do look somewhat discoloured and dated?

    • @RinneOnTheRoad
      @RinneOnTheRoad  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Mark! I believe the facades would only need to be sandblasted to make them look fresh again. But given the size of the estate it would be a massive job.

      There's a contest going on right now to give the barbican a more fresh renewed look. The winning team will be appointed in April 2022.

    Fascinated by brutalism, I watched this whole video. I wonder if we left Barbican itself at the 34:33 point of this video. It seems the architecture changed from that point forward. I want to like the look of Barbican, but I actually find it really depressing. The gloomy day didn't do the complex any favors, and it appears in need of a cleaning and resurfacing throughout. The water features and landscaping seem dismal and lackluster. Nonetheless, it is a fascinating place and I enjoyed the video very much.

    • @RinneOnTheRoad
      @RinneOnTheRoad  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for your words!
      You’re right - at 34:33 I left the Barbican.
      It could certainly do with a jet wash to freshen up the jackhammered concrete.
      But when you compare it to other estates of the same era it’s doing fairly well and it is quite a popular place to live.
