  • A walk through of the basic process of plastering a ceiling. Something I do on a regular basis on the Isle of Wight. First time talking on camera so a bit awkward :D

    Never tried speedy set, I've always used halftime.
    Anyway, congratulations on the channel mate, I've recently just made my own channel. Keep up the good work, enjoying your videos

      Speedy set is very similar to halftime, just with the added fibres. Very hard to tell the difference. Very handy for the colder months though. Mate your videos are brilliant and some top advice and tips 👌My next step is talking to the camera 😅

    I've been a plasterer for over 25 years and never seen those height extension boot things though ! Where did you get them from ?!

    Hi Mike, Enjoying watching your work and learning loads from you and also the other guys I subscribe to here on TH-cam. I’m trying to formulate my own methods of working and this has helped me. Couple of questions. When you switch over to the finishing towel you do the edges first reaching back in towards the centre as far as comfortable then do the long cross trowel down the middle but staying clear of about 24 inch from the edges and you go that twice is that right? Don’t want to see em thick but just want to be sure. Thank you and keep on sharing your knowledge. It’s very appreciated.

    How tall are you mate? I've just ordered some worktall boots I'm roughly 5.10. It looks a bit of a stretch for you there

    Nice video Mike, iv recently gotten into plastering and looking for an experienced spread to jump on with just gain more experience and confidence. Can I ask what size trowel and hawk do you use and recommend?

    • @mikewestonplastering5082
      @mikewestonplastering5082  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cheers Bee. Sorry slow getting back to you. I'd go for either a 13 or 14 inch Trowel. You can't go wrong with a Marshalltown tbh. My favourite trowel I have is a carbon steel 13inch Marshalltown. You need to dry them off and oil them after use but well worth it. I have a 13.5 inch Marshalltown hawk which I find is perfect. Not too small or big. I lay on with a 16inch trowel and flatten off for a few passes with it before i move on to the 13inch. But if you just want one good trowel, a 13 or 14inch for sure

    Nice one Mike. very neat job and an excellent video. Just one question How tall are you? I am 5'10' and I found I was stretching with the worktall boots on a 2.4m ceiling. You make it ook easy.

    • @mikewestonplastering5082
      @mikewestonplastering5082  ปีที่แล้ว

      Cheers Paul, I'm 6 foot and fairly long arms. I could do with being a bit closer to the ceiling myself, as do feel the strain on my neck/shoulder. I might invest in some decent stilts in the New year (mine are falling to bits) these work tall boots do come in handy though and find them more comfortable.

    • @mrwright5699

      I’m 5 9” and found the work tall boots too short. They’d be ideal for people 6ft or taller.

      Yeah you do have to watch yourself. Last month I was cross trowelling a ceiling and forgot about the fire place half that was slightly higher than the rest of the floor. Stepped on it with the edge of the boot and went down like a sack of potatoes, I must of tried to grab the wall on the way down which knocked the trowel out my hand and it landed on top of my head. 🤣 Luckily no real damage 😁

      Hi Yousaf, personal preference really. May seem odd but it's to keep a wet edge when laying on. So I'm working into what I've layed on. If I started at far end and layed all the way along the longest edge, it might possibly dry out by the time I layed into it. Hope that makes sense.
