    six years later and this is still extremely helpful, thank you for going into detail about what paints you used and the process in depth on how to remove the paints. You probably won't see this seeing as how old of a video it is but, cheers!

    This worked well on pink Tamiya Surface Primer under Tamiya LP-21. It came off with gentle rubbing using a paper towel wetted with 95% IPA after a mere ten minute soak in the IPA. The part was washed in dilute Dawn detergent and took a new coat of primer beautifully. This technique saved my project. Many thanks.

    I saw this removal paint video and it strips the paint just fine but it does make the plastic model very easy to bend and break. I didn't even leave the model car in the rubbing alcohol. I dipped an old sock in the alcohol and used the sock to remove the paint. So it actually does soften the plastic.

    Thanks for the video. Been trying everything else on this painted model from Roco of Austria .Brake fluid that usually works well caused the original model body to fracture all over . Reacted with the resin they chose to use to make the body. Luck would have it I have another that needs stripping ,Chose to use oven cleaner ,but after a day it only took some of the surface and then in spots took it off all the way to the bare resin, but this took almost a entire can. No shell damage with it .Still may try the 99% alcohol since 90 % is too weak. Soaking for a week did nothing but take off the decal print.

    Since I use Tamiya spray paints, which is a lacquer, I can use Tamiya lacquer thinner. I just put it on a paper towel and it rubs off almost instantly and I don't have to soak it at all and I can rub it all off in about 20-30 minutes. Tamiya website says its "plastic friendly".

    AAAAAHHH! ..It was so easy! Yet I the masochist sanded the paint for hours and hours. Even took out the scalpel just to clear up some tight spots, even tho I got left with nasty scratches in some places. Well now I'll know. Altho this was pretty much a one time process that I made. Had a 2nd hand S800 Toyota that I redone.

    Hey man, thanks for the vid. I used oven cleaner before with mixed results. I'm just wondering: I've got a goodwill store model which is painted with some kind of old enamel, and glued very well (could drop a bomb on it and it would probably still hold). Does this method also works for removing old glue? I saw the bumper of the sky come off, so this may help on making the rebuild a lot easier.

    • @ELPModelling
      @ELPModelling  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lucas Van Hassel To be honest Lucas the bumper wasn't glued on very in the first place. I glued the bumpers on this around 2 years ago but learnt from my mistake. It was me knocking it with my hand that did it. Try putting the model in a zip lock back in the freezer. This should help with removing the parts :)

    I've had a plastic model soaking for the past 10 days in a plastic airtight container filled with alcohol, and nothing so far - there are some small blue dots of paint floating in the alcohol, but other than that, the model is still painted. Previous to this, I tried the Easy Off oven cleaner and nada - wouldn't take any of the paint off. Even left it soaking in the easy off in a plastic bag for several days and nada. I didn't even use that many light mist layers of paint on the model, so I'm not sure why the paint refuses to come off. I have a separate model car soaking in a purple pond solution, but after two days, I'm not optimistic it will remove the paint on it.

    I've tried a varity of stuff and found Dettol used neat has very similar results to what you've demonstrated.
    My question is what dark alley did you need to go down to get the IPA.
    I agree woth ypu on the brake fluid..even though i never used it its very corrosive and I'd avoid it for a variety of reasons.
    Great simple Tutorial Elliot.. (y)

Honestly I googled it, the last "batch" I bought from ebay with a combined postage loophole that got me about 2lts for a reasonable price. Handy to know...since I just made a total *@#!"%&* hash of spraying a 1/12 Ferrari Enzo body! (Cheaper than ordering replacement parts!)
    I saw one or two people mention thinners etc, I can confirm this is not a good idea, and especially not Zero Paints Airbrush cleaner...that stuff attacks everything! It melted the plastic as well. It even damages the rubber o-rings on my airbrush, especially the smaller ones!
    Might try the oven cleaner on a small piece as I know that won't damage the plastic as I use it to strip Chrome of plated parts. (I despise them in kits)

      cashton456 I havent no. Its crossed my mind a few times, but just spraying a car normally and using flat clear would give me the same results as matte plastidip I guess

    Bad timing, just Hulk smashed another paint disaster. Couldn't face having to do all that corrective filling again. Think this is me, done.
