When I very first heard this (around '88)
I instantly loved it so much ❤ . But it was like "Who is THAT" I didnt know who it was that had such a beautifull voice at the time and had that lovely jazzy feel to it .
When I learned it was George I was so amazed by that feeling that he'd matured so much in his music with this song .
His voice in the crescendo in the Bridge and then back to that calm telling of the story in the finale .

This song is so beautifully crafted. The arrangement, the cadence, the reverb, the perfect paraphrasing, the warmth of his voice... Just a Classic Rythm & Blues, but what makes it so appealing is the sincerity in his voice. You just feel like hugging him and stopping his hurting.

According to the Wikipedia entry on Kissing A Fool, Michael wrote the song to express his concerns that he was not suitable material as a romantic partner because of the 'baggage' (and fame) that he came with; he also apparently recorded the vocal in a single take -- this was also a hallmark of Aretha Franklin.
What is apparent is that his interpretation of the song makes it a torch-song. :-)

We shot this viideo in Vancouver at Bridge studios. He made us shoot enough footage for a ful length feature film... Great man to work with! A 22 hour shoot that was!
