David Humphrey has a youthful voice, I think it suits Shadow.
ian hanlin shadow is a big departure from the usual shadow voice, but i really like it. it fits with the more normal/less cheesy voice acting in sonic prime.
Jason Griffith gave Shadow a Interesting Gruff voice
David Was always the best shadow voice to me, can't ever beat it.

You are missing Ryan Drummond, who filled in for David Humphrey in SA2 for a couple of lines during the final battle that made it into the final game.
And what are those lines exactly? 🤔
@@KawaiiHoshi36 There’s a comparison video on TH-cam where a user compares David Humphrey’s lines to Ryan Drummond’s. Ryan Drummond voiced Shadow during a little bit into the fight against the Biolizard. You may not be able to tell the difference at first but it’s there.
“It seems pretty powerful. What kind of monster is this?”
“Sonic! What are you doing!? You are almost out of rings! Switch places with me!”
And a third line that I can’t remember at the moment.
Those lines don't sound that good in my opinion, very similar to kirk
David's the best voice it just suits his character more

Kirk is actually a really good voice actor I somewhat blame the voice direction and the writing more than him since they’re the ones that give him those cringey lines and bad direction.
I agree, like I can see the potential in his take of Shadow but he never got a good game or show to fully realise it. He got stuck with the worst era of Shadow, hopefully he'll get to redeem himself in the future.
Jason was given different direction, he was still able to perform best and the man voices multiple characters, it's the voice itself.
I don't think it's just the voice direction, it's just the way he does shadow's voice doesn't suit the character in my opinion
I think Kirk Thornton would genuinely nail Shadow if the directors had him sound more like his Saix voice and less like Kisame, why they havent thought of that yet is beyond me

Ian Hanlin’s Shadow is great
Kōji Yusa. He's pretty much perfect for this role: Tragic, soft spoken, menacing yet also extremely sympathetic. It helps that he doesn't sound particularly edgy. As for the English voices, my favorites are David Humphrey and Kirk Thornton.

For me, it's a tie between Jason and Koji. They both portrayed Shadow very well. Though, I also liked Ian Hanlin's portrayal as Shadow. Kirk is definitely the worst one, but I will give him props for improving over time, and there are moments when he really does shine, like in the Twitter Takeovers.

Hmmm idk- Ian gives Jason or David vibes in how he voices Shadow, we're just used to how Kirk has done it that it's hard to really hear him as a less scratchy sounding guy ig.
@@ItsMinnowSeason this was back when Prime season 1 barley came out. Now we're here and Ian sounds actually better and not as insufferable as he did in season 1.

Ian Hanlin is my favorite Shadow voice, is an upgrade over David Humphrey which is the voice that first introduced Shadow and fitted his personality.
I like Jason Griffith, but I much prefer Ian tone for Shadow.
After watching Sonic Prime Season 2, Ian Hanlin is now my favorite Shadow voice actor.

I have always loved David Humphrey's performance. He really captured the nuances of Shadow's character, and had an undercurrent of emotion when appropriate. While Shadow was mainly a villain in SA2, he was a tragic one; he was hurting and lashing out.
While the 4kids VAs got better overtime, and stoic Shadow in 06 was pretty decent, he was missing the range that Humprey had. I unfortunately cannot stand Kirk Thornton's Shadow- which is a shame because I love some of Kirk's other roles, but he makes for an even harsher and gruffer Shadow with no trace of SA2's vulnerability or even 06's stoicism left. In some ways, Shadow becoming more stoic made some character evolution sense, but him suddenly becoming more openly aggressive and antagonistic did not.
If I had to pick a modern voice actor, I'd honestly prefer Ian Hanlin. His voice is a bit deeper, but it's not gruff or hard-edged, and he is able to convey at least some range of emotion or at least urgency.

@@ILikeToTrollPeople117What does the VA have to do with the actual character? Jason plays 06 Shadow which is arguably better than SA2 Shadow since it's a direct continuation and he isn't an edge lord in that game.
Also forgot to mention he voices Sonic C Shadow which may not be quite as good he isn't really an edge lord there.

I actually even think that kirk thornton is trying to do a really deep voice for shadow.
Yeah after forces and TSR was ok for his voice but it sounded even worse than sonic boom rise of lyric
My favorite will always be David Humphrey. In my opinion he was the best in making Shadow sound emotional when he needed to while still being capable of making the character sound serious and mysterious. But I think that Jason and Yusa are excellent as well.

As for Koji Yusa, I don't compare him the same way on the same list as the English VA's. But I'd say he's a really cool Shadow voice.

Koji Yusa the Japanese VA has voiced shadow since SA2. and David Humphrey was hired to be the English version of Koji Yusa.
so that makes Koji the best overall, and David the True english shadow. Jason Griffith is a close second but does a different take on the character.
but maybe David can try doing more Jason-like voice direction and we can see how that could sound.

I think Jason's gruff voice fits shadow perfectly because it's not really normal or natural. Hes a gentetically modified, demon cartoon hedgehog based on a blue, alien, cartoon hedgehog. I find it nore unusual that he would sound like your typical joe with a baritone range.

David sounded cooler in Heroes than Sa2 and Sonic Battle. Buttttt, then Jason was good, and gotten better slowly from the Olympics to Sonic 06. With 2009 Black Knight peeking and ending their long run. I think For Kids Sonic X helped them gotten better through the anime.

Here’s my list
1 Griffith, the one I grew up with and my own personal favorite
2 Humprhey, does give a very special mystery quality and I totally get why people really like him
3 Hanlin,while hearing him in Sonic Prime, I will say the effort he gives is commendable. I think he lacks the hushed/soft tone that Griffith and Humphrey perfectly give Shadow. And I have a hot take that Vincent Tong was better suited to voice Shadow than Hanlin. But that’s just me
4 Thornton, while I do really like Thornton as a voice actor. I personally think that he embodies Shadow the least of the 4, to me he’s a very different character.
Kirk makes Shadow sound more like Vegeta especially in AI form

Jason Griffith. He is a perfect fit, he has a dark, serious, determined and anti-heroic/heroic tones. He was at his best in 06 and Sonic&Tails R, Jason was the best sonic too.
