- The stitching pony may be the most crucial part of hand stitching.
In this video, I walk you through my evolution of 5 stitching ponies. Starting with "rubbish" and ending with the "Ferrari".
As mentioned in the video, regarding stitching "ponies", there are tons of different styles, sizes, etc. There is no "right or wrong". It's all a matter of personal preference. This video highlights my preferences and the justification for each.

Thanks for your passion! My pony was made by my close friend who passed 2 yrs ago. Each day I use it I'm smiling to him. It's a chair + pony combined made of 100+ wood.
Love this !
I've learnt new swear words using my Amazon stitching pony! I've got to forego making a leather project and make myself a proper stitching pony instead.
Great video as usual Art, keep spreading the love 👍
😆 thanks !
Been eye balling your clamps since I started watching forever ago. Currently overseas but can wait to build my own Clydesdale. Thanks for the tip and the explanations. You continue to inspire the leatherworking community with your work and craftsmanship. I know watching you has made me a better leatherworker. Thank you for all you do!
Thank you for this. I really appreciate it!
I use my little brother as a stitching pony. Much less expensive :)
Genius !
I didn’t know I wanted to know what I now know about stitching ponies - another great and useful video. Now to go modify my mini-pony I seldom use as I’m an “air-stitcher” 😂
Thanks !
The next version should be able to change out the leather jaws with a recessed bolt with the nut glued into the frame. Go from 8" jaws to 6" and down to 4" for whatever you need. Make the foot rest hollow to put the extra jaws into while not in use. Name it the Corvette convertible since the jaws can be converted to different sizes. Slide them down onto the arms and slide the bolt in and secure. I thought about a thumb screw, but your thread WILL catch on everything. I can see it in my head, but it is strange trying to get it in writing.
My "pony" is a $10 screw clamp with leather glued to the jaws, lol. I like yours better! Been admiring it since I saw it. Thanks Mascon!!!
Thanks !!
Thanks for posting this I love your Ferrari and the clydesdale , Tandy leather calls mine the stitching horse after I told the manager this is my stitching pony I left it at his store for 5 weeks the employees used it I got there in put and made the top plates longer, has a lever underneath it to tighten the clamp. Unable to post it hear but will send a picture some how to you.
Improving tools is always cool to see.
Agreed. Thanks for watching!
I watch and learn from ur videos so much that all my projects look like you made them. Lol I sit on my bed Indian style with the bottom bar of my stitching pony going under my right thigh- I found this to be super comfortable and it works very well.
Perfect timing. I'm on number 3, almost finished. I like the design elements on your #5. Thanks for a great post.
Happy Saturday everyone 🤙 thank you sir for the content 👌🏴☠️
Thanks for watching!
@@MasconLeather legendary sharing all this information.
I really enjoy watching your videos, they are always informative and top notch! Thanks for taking the time to make them!
Thanks for this!
Wow man! You sure have so much knowledge! Thanks for sharing this. Also, I LOVE your shoes! Did you make them or where did you get them?
Thanks !! Shoes are from “old friends” brand
Thanks, I was wondering the same thing. I plan to try to make some macarons.@@MasconLeather
Thank you. I appreciate you talking the time to share this with us.
Thanks for watching!
Pretty cool! I use an antique thigh pony but clamp it to my bench most of the time. I agree with the screw being in the middle of the throat. It can be very limiting. Appreciate your content.
Exactly!!
Seriously no shots of Chloe? 🤦♂ I remember when you made #3 but didn't know or remember it was made from wood belonging to your Dad, so awesome!!! enjoyed the video and THANK YOU for your time spent making it!!!
Thanks for the continued support! Didn’t get a chance to get the real Chloe in this time. Her stunt double had to fill in. She’ll be back.
"Stitching Clydesdale" 🤣🤣 perfect
😆 right ?!??
Thank you sir I appreciate your videos....and your knowledge...I'm currently making great things and exploring all the possibilities...you've been a big help to my success...and your tools are amazing I'm collecting them all
Great stuff. I’m still using the small table clamp. But hope to build a bigger one soon. Thanks for the content.
Thanks for watching!
Would like to know where you got your whiskey container I like it very much. Norlina
Many thanks for sharing this 😊
Thanks for the support!
Great video for a rookie like me... Awesome details ...
Thanks for watching!
I've made 5 stitching ponies because it's a fun woodworking project. But I never use them, they're just slowing me down. It's way faster to stitch without one, just have follow to a specific technique. I can't remember his name right now, the guy who used to be sponsored by weaver and now buckleguy? He has a video.
Rye Whiskey? Channeling your inner Canadian? 😁😁
😆
Whatever it takes. Right ?!
Absolutely love this card holder, I have not seen this on your website. Can you send me a link so I can order it please.
Add your videos with Turkish subtitles, I'm a close follower🙏
I don’t have that sort of control. My options are “subtitles, yes or no “
Great man!
Dont make me wait until 2025, sell me one of these wallets!
Cool.
Thanks !
GENIUS!!!
Thanks !!
The stamps you use look good. Do you make them or order them through someone else? I’m looking for my own.
Thanks. I use “leatherstampmaker . Com”. Tell him I sent you.
I have been trying to find a Olivia doll for ages now. Where can I find one
Is there a pattern for the rivets?
Rivets for ?

Thanks for watching!
Stitching pony is super over rated in my opinion. I know they can be useful but I leaned to stitch without them so they kinda just get in my way. But I do realize most people find them useful. That's also cool you made your own.
👍
Can't you make as many as you use and sell?
What? 🤷♂️
@@MasconLeather I mean, can you make many of the wooden tools that you use for sewing and sell them?
It's not a Doxa, it's not a Seiko, it's not an Islander, it's not a Squale...wth is it?
It’s an Erebus Origin 😉
I was wondering the same thing. Artie’s videos tickle two fancies for me. Making stuff with your hands…and WRIST WATCHES! Good stuff!
When you buy your leather do you prefer the top grade or do you use 2nd runs at all?
