Hey Chris, Here a helpful tip for those of us who have the Predator. I have the 2017 PDL and use Helix5 with same SI/DI/GPS/Sonar...i spoke with Humminbird directly and they have a tranducer that fits perfect (model#XPTH9HDSI180T also part#710210-1). It it normally sells for $269 but those of us with the Predator can 'swap out' and simply 'exchange' the existing transducer that came with the Humminbird Helix for $95. It fits perfect and Side Image too (notice the 'SI' in the model#).
Really like the all thread idea to give a little more wiggle room to line up the transducer into the recess. When you use it do you have to loosen the nut to drop it into the water a little deeper for the side imaging feature or does it work the same tucked up tight as you have it in the video? I have this book marked in my watchlist! Thanks for the posts.
Loved this video and bought everything. However I can't get the power to work. Tested the same battery and it's good. Hard wired it per Humminbird and it came on. After many wire locks gone, I figured out it has something to do with the hitch connector. Any advise or issues you experience?
First thanks for the great detailed install vid here! As an update, are you still satisfied with your transducer install vs. a Ram transducer mount. Have you made or considered any changes? As damage been an issue? I have a P-13 and I'm considering a similar configuration. Thank you!
Steve Avery I used it like this for a few years. Don’t have the kayak anymore, but it worked great. The fish finder is on my boat now. No damage at all to the transducer
Great video! We have the same Helix 7 - how well does the Sonar work in choppy water? How well does the Side Imaging work with the transducer up inside the hull slightly? Keep up the good work!
Albert Garcia humminbird is waterproof to an extent. Not sure about completely submerging it, but I’ve had it in the rain a ton. The battery is in a dry hatch that won’t fill with water if rolled over.
i just bought the helix 5 with si and a predator 13. im concerned that ill damage the transducer when running shallow and transporting due to the fact it doesnt flush mount. have you run into this problem? ideally i want to mount it that way but im looking into arms if all else fails
jish may it mounts flush and works great. Just be careful if your dragging it and stuff but I'd should be fine. It mounts into that recess in the yack perfectly with a few mods that I did in this video
As someone who just got their first fish finder and has never worked with wires before, this video was so helpful! Thanks for the great content!

Nice install man! Friggin' Mainah ingenuity at its finest!

Dude I want to drink beer in your garage and build shit. Haha. You're my east coat doppelganger
wickeked pissah! loved it . I am from maine too., just got my old Town Predator PDL , will be doing this to mine also, thanks

CHoppy water....not so great, but it works. Side imaging works well! I was surprised. I still need to learn how to run it though lol
Interesting, about what I expected then. I'm going for a portable arm since I also want to use it on a larger boat as well. Thanks for the insight!
So what happens when you flip the kayak? Is the battery/Hummingbird waterproof?

and the side imaging works fine? i fish some rocky shallow rivers... might be best to do a side arm mount.
jish may it does!
