    So I won this radio in a raffle and now trying to understand how to operate it.
    Obviously with your previous experience on the TH 9800 you knew how to use this one.
    However, I do NOT, so I was hoping to find instructions on the TH7800....
    You demonstrated its capabilities but I still have to figure out the controls.....73

    Thanx for the review. It's a re-packaged Yaesu FT-8800 with the MARS modification. The FT-8800 is a great all around dual band radio, with the MLS-100 external speaker it rocks. The FT-8800 is discontinued they must have sold the intellectual property to Tytera. I was looking for another FT-8800 now I am going to buy a few TH-7800's for the base and car.

    I just purchased one of these, it puts out less power on high than it does on the medium high setting on uhf, I recommend the wouxun kg-uv980p it puts out more power than wouxun claims

      It's been a couple of years since I have toyed with this TYT radio, but I also did a video on the Wouxun model and I liked it too.

    My TYT TH-7800 output power doesn't come close. Vhf Low= 6W Mid2=8W Mid1=14W High=40W. Uhf Low=5W Mid2=12W Mid1=15W High=35W. WOW not to even of a spread. Testing performed at middle of ham band with dummy load and Diamond Sx400. I'm going to send the radio back because that's not the only problem it has. When transmitting on vhf and releasing the ptt there's a delay before RX and a lower volume beep tone is then transmitted over the air. Very annoying, other hams keep telling me to turn it off however there's no way to. There's nothing in the software or radio menu pertaining to end of transmission beep tone or squelch tail tone. And last When receiving a station on uhf and your on vhf when you key the mic on vhf the uhf side shuts down for 1/2 a second with a chirp sound coming though you speaker, after the 1/2 second it returns to normal. These issue are only on vhf. NOTE: I DID NOT BUY THIS RADIO FROM GRAPEVINE AMATEUR RADIO. I just wanted to share my experience with you on this model.

      @HamRadio2  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +puka59 Thanks for sharing. Yea, it sounds like you got a bum radio. Sending it back is a good idea. Good luck, I hope you can get a replacement because this radio is a terrific unit when working correctly.

    great radio, pity mine say's TYT TH 7800 Quad Band on the actual radio though, I can understand them getting something wrong on the manual with regards to printing, but the actual radio? Strange but it is really only dual band

      yes I know, I only ordered dual band so I cannot complain, but the radio itself says TYT TH 7800 QUAD BAND, mistakes on manual fine but the actual radio seems quite careless

    Hey Jason, Just Picked up one of these from Main trading Company Friday. Have hooked it up to my computer and can load a program, but once I get to the radio, it does't show me the channels I loaded. They advisded it was locked, So How do you unlock these now? Help

    • @HamRadio2
      @HamRadio2  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      OK that might be another one of TYT's lock downs due to the new FCC rules. I've not experienced how to unlock an analog radio yet, but MTC should be able to tell you.

    Hi, I have a question.
    I recently received a TH-7800, and my question is:
    Is it possible to open / close the bands in RX / TX via software with the programming cable?
    I appreciate an answer and your experiences with this TYT TH-7800:
    Greetings.

    Hi Jason. Would you recommend the th-7800 or the th-9800? Not sure I would have much need the 6m and 10m bands in the th-9800 and the th-7800 is at a nice price point. I might tend to lean more towards the th-7800, but I wasn't sure if it is supported by Chirp yet. I know the th-9800 is. Wasn't sure if the th-9800 driver would work with the th-7800. Thanks

      Yes. I was just concerned about the programmability with the 7800. Don't think chirp supports that one yet.

      @misteraon 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you sell both?

    • @HamRadio2

      +Aaron Crawford I sell both. CHIRP doesn't work yet with the TH-7800, but I expect it will soon. TYT has some free software that you can download from my website.

    • @misteraon
      @misteraon 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Aside from the 6m/10m and the chirp issue, do you feel one outperforms the other or is built better with your tests? 6m and 10m isn't that big a deal for me because I have that in my HF rig.

    Hello, everyone I bouhgt two pieces TYT-7800, and both arts have the same problem 1. Maximum power in HIGH mode on VHF is ONLY 21W ! - not 40W like declare producer.2. Modulation of the radio (i mean TX) is very bass, and there is no treble :( and it sounds like a bucket. Can anyone know what is the function of "ADJUST MODE" ? You can turn it on, when you ress and hold the left buton V/M and holding it presses the power buton.

    • @HamRadio2
      @HamRadio2  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Adjust Mode is for firmware updates. I've only used it once.
      It sounds like you received a bad radio, I'd suggest returning it for another. The ones I've tested have all been reliable and sound great

    •  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Ham Radio 2.0 Maybe You have a right, but on two pieces ? I bought the radios directly from TYT. It looks like that the quality of this production is very low. you can see this also after quality of the electronics. Perhaps I will present my radio on TH-cam, it's important to show others risk of such purchase.

    • @HamRadio2
      @HamRadio2  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Grochale I've tested more than 10 units. I'm not saying there are no bad ones, but honestly I think that they are rare. You can't judge an entire line on 2 pieces. I've tested and sold dozens and they are solid.

    • @tylerdean980
      @tylerdean980 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Definitely a little late, but will respond so that others can have an answer if they ask the same question. Yes, you could. It would not work on the CB band of course, but if unlocked, it could communicate with FRS and GMRS radios. If you want to receive CB the TYT 8900 can when unlocked, but it will not transmit AM, only FM, so even though you would be able to hear CB, you could not talk to them. If CB is your main interest in communications, and you just want more power, there are readily available "export radios" that output illegal amounts of power on the CB band. Of course, legality is irrelevant when the boogaloo comes knocking.
