Hey love your video. Here is a old timer trick I learned 35 years ago at the race track and it's still a great trick. Take ten feet of yellow ski rope lower the piston to bottom of cylinder put as much of the rope in the cylinder as you can get then rotate piston until you lock the engine you can remove the spring on the valve and rotate valve or hook a pair of vice gripes to it and move up and down I have replaced broken springs between races before
Get it started, then trickle some MMO or ATF down the carb to get some lube onto the valve stems. Mixing a little 2-stroke oil into your gas supply will help.
Congrats on doing a Mopar! A couple things: Always check the fluid on a Torqueflite with it running in neutral. The pump doesn't pump in park. The AC compressor looks like a York but it's a Chrysler-built RV-2. I think that's a Holley 2245 carb. Lucky it didn't have Lean-Burn...they definitely had it by '77 but not in everything. Just a tip....but always pull the sparkplugs in an old engine and put some type of oil in the cylinders for a day or two before turning over. Marvel mystery oil works well. Oh, that 360 2V will really smoke the tires if you turn really sharp and hit the gas on some wet pavement all the while getting about 11 MPG. You have to love smog power in the 70's.
Like the new intro now looking cool I also prefer the longer vids although the Monaco had other ideas, can we see some of your own collection of cars? 👍👍👍 Duff rules!
those later 70's mopar small blocks were a thin wall casting, so there's not much wiggle room if you need to bore them. I believe a pre 76 block is what guys look for. Also small block mopars are just as easy and simple as a small block chevy to work on, I've had both.
Minimum of 60 thousands is a lot of wiggle room. That's a common lack of real knowledge with late 70's Mopar engines. The vast majority of thinning was done with more consistent casting and removal of material that wasn't needed to begin with.

Keep going through it. You've gone this far, and you are so close. You don't see those cars every day, so it's worth fixing. I enjoy seeing you fix vehicles that are less common, or that I don't know anything about. You do a very good job of explaining things, and I enjoy learning about cars I have never seen before, like this one. I'm a 100% self taught mechanic, and unfortunately there are certain things that I have not been able to teach myself thus far. I just learned through trial and error working at a junkyard. I successfully revived 11 classic cars working there, and we were able to resell them. So I like I said, I enjoy seeing some of your more challenging revivals, because I seem to learn a lot from them. I would love to see you do some dedicated videos explaining how certain parts work, and how to properly rebuild, diagnose, and/or tune them. It would be invaluable to me. But anyway, this is a beautiful car, and i would like to see it run again with the original drivetrain. When I am working on something, I keep it original unless I have to change it.
Sir I like your work ethic and the fact that you don't use colorful words. I'm a mechanic myself and I've brought many old cars back to life. Mopars can be cantankerous when they want to be. The firing order is similar to GM'S Buick, Chevrolet, Oldsmobile and Pontiac V8's. The initial ignition timing must be set to TDC otherwise the engine can run hot. As you found out the valves are non adjustable. A complete rebuild is probably your best bet here. Anyway keep up the gr8 work you and Duff.
very good that you have done in V8 Monaco horizon with just trunk style in the back. no hatchback Horizon car in the model 1978 - 1980 Polar a Rally street car. The compression gauge for testing is making engine running smooth. The valve is not moving where it should move. The hollowed push rod would make valve working good since it cools and not dry off inside valve guide with valve seals.

Oh, that 360 2V will really smoke the tires if you turn really sharp and hit the gas on some wet pavement all the while getting about 11 MPG. You have to love smog power in the 70's.
Excellent choice Scott!! Haha sounds like a great rig!
Nothing wrong with Mopar Trans Just a lack of knowing how to set them up👍
Dangg! .. Good show Mortske.. A guy sure is getting spoiled with all these awesome restoration channels..
Look at you with the new opening!
That's what I was thinking, the man is getting fancy with his high production opening and such.
Love the way the engine sounds even after all those years of neglect 😍
By the way, Mortske has the best revivals!!
Haven't even made it to the 5 minute mark and I love it. Monaco's were way cooler than people remember.
Sure are!
Like the new intro now looking cool I also prefer the longer vids although the Monaco had other ideas, can we see some of your own collection of cars? 👍👍👍 Duff rules!
Glad you like them!
Bed sheet gas tank give you any ideas
Monica is a rare one not around anymore a hard to find worth your time for sure.
Monica living up to her name, she really blows!! Hahaha!! Had me rolling bro!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Beautifull 70’ years! Good car! Perfect! 👍🤘😍
Use lithium grease in a spray can for those door hinges and hood hinges.
Another good video! U always can tell it’s a Mopar by the sound of that starter! Thanks for sharing 😎👍
Sure can!
Duff likes to ride no matter how stinky it is. I enjoy whatever you work on...Good luck.
those later 70's mopar small blocks were a thin wall casting, so there's not much wiggle room if you need to bore them.
@@RetroAutoMN minimum of 60 thousands, that’s a lack of knowledge!
This should be a great starter for the week.
Well now you just jinxed it and I"m gonna have to fix the starter!
Fix the Monaco pls and fitt headers cam and polish them rims on it
I love your work
@@farouksydow4714 Well you know we don't do headers around here!
Man!! You and your dog... 🕊 🕊, is that the right spelling??? Your interaction with one another and snippets with Puttin, I love it!!! Greetings from South Africa!!!! I'm on you're both 's post's like kids on snot!!!!
Glad you enjoy them!
Well look, you bought it. I really appreciate the video and documentation. But when you had the carb off the first time and didn't go through it i felt your heart was just not into it. And the the valve i felt you would not pull the head. And there you go. Not a bad ride or bad shape but you gotta be a MoPar dude to put your heart and time into the project. Try to find a real MoPar guy and get your money out it. Then pick another trash heap and try again. You make great videos and Duff Dog is a sweety. Keep it alive, I ain't dead yet! Dennis
383 or 440 mag? Maybe a hemi? A sleeper!!! With our boy duffske at the wheel!!! Thanks for the great video bro!!! I can't stand 5_ 10 minute videos. What a great day to be alive!!!
Glad you enjoy our long shenanigans!
Next you will be hauling back delta 88s or LTD’S
One can only hope!
Hell yah, ‘73 delta 88 coupe. 455. Last of the interceptors. Or something.
@@BillLaBrie Oooooohhh yeah!!
In 79 had a 73 delta 88 the action that car saw
Glad you enjoy them and are learning some things! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Don't let Monica get the better of ya hang in there and make her daddy proud
Good job anyways! You brought it to life after over 30 years. Keep rocken!
Mortske: you must have gotten
“Dodge Fever”!
Great and interesting content.
I really like the way you analyze the problem/situation first.
Cheers
Glad you enjoy my shenanigans!

So much work, appreciate it. Great entertainment!
Premieres in 31 hours at 6:00 AM. Thanks youtube.
Great job on getting the Monaca running..You have a great talent at getting those ole cars up and running.
It’s unusual for me to see all the flat land and no hills. If you’re ever on the Oregon coast let me know!✌️
I’m convinced you could fix anything and it’s always worth remembering that there’s nothing a check book can’t fix
very good that you have done in V8 Monaco horizon with just trunk style in the back. no hatchback Horizon car in the model 1978 - 1980 Polar a Rally street car. The compression gauge for testing is making engine running smooth. The valve is not moving where it should move. The hollowed push rod would make valve working good since it cools and not dry off inside valve guide with valve seals.
Got the ultimate name for your channel! Was driving the other day and saw a sign that read, “Duff and associates”. Has a nice ring to it!
Snag me that sign!!
@@MortskeRepair hahaha! I wish I could. I believe it’s an Attorney’s office in Brewer, Maine. I’ll see what I can do though. Oh yeah....I say fix Monica. I think it’s worth it.
Great start on a messed up wires. Carry on.
Love that car. Definitely want to see more of this one
Great episode. I'd like more close up shots, but don't take that as a criticism. I say keep going on her. Cool car, and it runs, that's half the battle!!
Appreciate the feedback!
