How do you grade to mastery standards-based 'according to what students complete' if some are goofing off? I like the idea but I'm not sure how to grade I have only been teaching 1 year full time in classroom. I would love to see how this is calculated as it would be a game-changer for me in gradeland!
Hi Lauri! Helping your students to really have a reason behind the grades might help with the goofiness. Collaborating with them to make a "What does my grade mean" chart that breaks down the A, B, C, etc. can help them really dig into the grades and their importance. As for mastery of standards based grading, that pre and post assessment are hugely helpful! Students always love to see growth, so consider keeping those preassessments and letting students see the difference. This could lead to some great goal-setting opportunities too! Hope this helps!
