Sorry for the long video. I like telling a story and find it hard to do with a couple of minutes; especially when you have so many variables to these cheetahs. Maybe next one will be short.
I plopped down some blankets, a pillow and a sleeping bag in sub-zero temps and slept outside in a cheetah enclosure with three cheetahs to see what would happen. I had a feeling... an entirely enticing invitation to snuggle. I was right.
I spent more nights with some different cheetahs this time. Neo, Hunter, and Juno. Neo is new to Cheetah Experience. She is special in that she is a half sister to Gabriel, my buddy. Interestingly, she loves laying and smothering you while loving you, just like Gabe. Runs in the family. Hunter was brought in a year ago and Juno was born at CE. They are all about 1.5 years old here.
I show how cheetahs that are tamed by people will most likely purr for their keepers and not usually among themselves. It means they hold a special status for people above and beyond their cheetah counterparts and friends. I found it interesting.
I see this behavior among hand reared cheetahs. It's even more interesting that cheetahs will group all people with this special status. Neo was all over me; loving, purring, and grooming me and I only knew her for about 4 days before filming this video. Hunter probably didn't remember me because I didn't spend much time with her 8 months ago.
I explain the attraction all cats have for soft warmth. It reminds them of their mother for one but it is also a innate natural survival trait.... to share the warmth. Snuggling is a way of conserving energy and body heat. Survival training teaches the same thing... bundle together to conserve warmth when isolated in the wilderness.
Cuddling with pet dogs has saved many people who were lost in the wilderness. Like dogs, cheetahs have a body temperature that is about 3-5 degrees hotter than humans. I was very warm with these cheetahs spooned all around me... even with outside temps as low as 21F and -6C.
So another 'sleeping with cheetah' video. When I get the chance, I spend all my nights with them, regardless of weather conditions. It's that special to me.

From what I understand Cheetas are most social and less aggressive from big cats...too bad their tongues/licking feel as bad as some-one would rub your face with sandpaper, if not worse :D
Except when a house cat claws you, its no big deal, but when one of these claw you, you go to the hospital. I still love this guys tho. ♥️

I don't know, has anyone EVER been killed by a cheetah? As far as I know the death count for snow leopards is 0 and they're about the same size, but I never heard statistics for cheetahs. I'll bet it's a small number, like no more than a 2 digit number through all of human history.

After looking up images of how the tongue looks on cheetahs I can understand why it hurts when they groom you. The bond you have with these animals is amazing.

Neo is just like my dog. She loves sleeping between the legs of her family. All I need to to get a blanket and she will come over and get comfortable

They are de-scalping you with their grooming :D Seriously, they think very highly of you and trust you. Couple questions: When you sleep with such large animals (opposed to a pet cat or Chihuahua) is there so much body heat radiated that you ever become too warm? Also, it seems like Cheetahs are really obsessed with grooming... each other or human friends. Is this true with all large cat species or predominantly Cheetahs? You are very blessed to have these wonderful encounters with these gorgeous, cuddly, wonderful animals
Yeah, most all of the tamed cheetahs not only like me but other people as well. It's not just me. Cheetahs have an unusual characteristic about their personalities. They tend to group and categorize everything into whole groups. Some only like women, some men, some both or others just a few. When they decide to like something, they tend to like every kind of that something. In this case, Neo and Hunter like all people, staff and volunteers and purr and groom you. I only knew Neo for 5 days before this video and look at her with me... Leopards tend to be like this as well but not lions and tigers.
These cheetahs and all cats have about 4 degrees higher temps that us. In summer, yes I get too hot and they do too and don't snuggle as much or close. But I start to sweat where they are touching me after about 30 minutes and have to move. But in this freezing winter... I could not get enough of these fluffy, living, hot water bottle cheetahs. It was COLD and could not wait for them to gather around me.
Grooming is addictive to cheetahs and probably leopards as well. I am convinced nature has made it pleasurable to them and thus they are encouraged to do it. I notice many of the cheetahs and leopards close and roll their eyes backward when grooming. Some even get possessive over it and become slightly aggressive to maintain their grooming.... holding you down and using claws.
Grooming keeps fur clean from bloody debris, and having another cheetah do it for you helps get the difficult spots. Grooming also spreads their deodorizing scents over their body and cubs to help hide them. They also like spreading it over you to claim and honor you. Each cats saliva has a unique scent and helps identify who was present. When licking YOU... they are saying how proud they are that you wear their scent... a family scent to announce to others that you belong to them. It's an honor from a cats perspective.
Wow thanks for all the great info! Astounding how Cheetahs in particular are similar to house cat pets... or at least I think so. I tell ya, if Heaven is real I intend to spend a lot of time there hugging, kissing and sleeping with piles of Cheetahs, black leopards, Pallas Cats... can you think of a better way to spend eternity :)
It's a lil slice of heaven on earth to have these cheetahs like you enough to snuggle, purr, and groom you. I love it. There are moments I wish would never end. It is sad people who would kill such an animal will never experience what is possible if you love and respect them instead. I am trying to show just that.
These cheetahs seem to actually do tons more grooming and snuggling than most domesticated house cats - and they seem to enjoy being groomed and snuggled a lot, aswell.

This is amazing, I don't think I could handle this. They seem pretty demanding. It's like "Pet/cuddle me now... OR ELSE!"
They seem to have a different temperament then the other big cats, I wonder if that has to do with their unique evolution.
Definitely different temperament than other big cats and much more docile. There are many reasons for it. Their nature for one, in that they are totally designed to run rather than fight. They lose every battle with predators in the wild and thus VERY skittish. So, if you can't fight well by nature but can run... focus on that and become less aggressive or you DIE! Makes sense.
But I think it's also possible many were bred for this temperament 1000s of years ago when Egyptians and Asians raised 1000s and some probably were released. We just don't know. It would be interesting to compare the gene sequence of an extinct Ice Age cheetah and todays.
This just makes me hate poachers all the more. There's more to animals than just being harvestable materials.

Gabriel is doing great. He's back with the other breeding cheetahs now. He's at a reproductive age now and going to serve his greatest purpose... to help the species survive. I don't know what Fushan is doing. I saw a pic of him in Cheetah Experience's FB page and he was playing with something.
I'll look for a lizard, but doubt it. It was below freezing and they are hibernating. Maybe a twig or leaf blowing in the wind.
This is the best channel to know better about cheetahs! they look so innocent, adorable! even hunters they understand love!
It was a Great Hidden secret about cheetahs. It blew me away how they are when I was 1st introduced to them. I plan on showing the world what the real temperament and personalities of the cheetah are and all of their behaviours while explaining their endangered plight and need for conservation. They are in real trouble in the wild and places like Cheetah Experience and others like it are a start in saving them.

Great video, Cheetahs are beautiful cats and it would be magical to spend the night with them.. I guess it does help that they dont generally see us as 'prey' or 'food' - I wouldnt want to test the theory in the wild though

I think they can sense your blood pressure drop, or something else relaxes you when they purr, that goes unsaid between two cheetahs. They may have just noticed that you’re not as happy and relaxed when they aren’t purring to greet you.
As a cat owner, there is a physical response we have to them purring. They may just think you need a lot of reassurance, and have long recognized you don’t speak cheetah.
Cats do live in groups, and would like all the group to feel welcomed.
It’s kinda a cross in communication. You feel less welcomed by their hospitality.
It’s like being from America (human), and having people (cheetahs) throw an “America party” (human gathering) and then finding what they thought Americans (humans) liked is red cups (constant purrs and grooming)…

It does feel magical, but amazingly, I met Neo only 5 days earlier for the 1st time and Hunter and Juno I knew 6 months earlier. Cheetahs are just an amazing non-temperamental cat. They tend to group everything and everybody in wholesale CATegories. Neo and Hunter love everyone and Juno doesn't trust anyone.
It doesn't matter who you are.... they form these impressions ahead of time and I could have been someone totally different and new and after a few greets with the cheetahs, they would do the same thing they did with me .. snuggle up, purrr, groom, and lay with you. I'm convinced most of these tamed cheetahs see people as 'mothers'. Granted I know how to reach these animals and read them, but I see the same reactions to brand new volunteers at to Cheetah Experience.
Amazing and so lovely to see how close you are to those beautiful creatures,much love shared there. Such an awesome testimony to the true harmony we all are designed for . Love is the way. Thank you for your heart warming videos. New subscribe. Blessings to you and all your furry friends. Davida.
