Do We Really Have Free Will? (2 Key Missing Pieces)

  • The question of whether we have free will or not is a longstanding and complex debate in philosophy, neuroscience, and psychology. TH-cam is full of amazingly detailed and intriguing videos talking about this concept in much detail. In today's video, I wanted to talk about two extremely crucial concepts that I think are often overlooked in most debates and discussions around this subject.
Join me, Chetan Narang, as I dive deep into the concept of Free Will. I am sure that by the end of this episode of The Unlearning Playground Podcast, you would be well equipped to understand what is mostly missing in the various perspectives of this question from philosophy, neuroscience, psychology & theology. You will also be able to digest the classic debates between determinism, libertarian free will & compatibilism better and also incorporate some of the practical life lessons here into your own everyday life.
Whether you have or haven't listened to big names like Sam Harris, Andrew Huberman, Robert Sapolsky or Jordan Peterson or you are new to this concept, my hope is that you would find this video to be the missing piece in the jigsaw puzzle of the ever evasive question - Is Free Will an illusion?
As I uncover what is often missing in most debates and discussions about free will - whether among philosophers, scientists, or laypeople, you would see that we actually need to go beyond the surface arguments to explore the real nuance of this question.
Let's meet in the playground then.
Subscribe ‪@ChetanNarangOfficial‬ if you haven't already.
    Until next time.
    Peace out.

We can say that the person with self awareness has more choices on table whereas the person with no self awareness does not know what choices he is missing. In either case both these people didnt engineer the choices they have or dont have. So there really no free will in either case. Sam harris has really plagued me with question of free will and im trying to have as many conversations as possible about it, Just found your channel, do you think theres any way around it, i really want to know if free will is truly incompatibility with our sense of self in every way possible or is there a tiny space for free will to exist. Also i think the conscious self is what we call the "ego" and its what falls away in meditation once free will is out of the picture. Meditation only started making sense to me once i recognised the illusion of free will and the self

Hey Sahil, I understand the predicament you are in right now. I made this video specifically for it to be honest.
I have already answered your question in the video itself. You are right in what you say about self awareness, but when you say "we don't engineer the choices we have or don't have", that is the exact thing I tried to explain in the video - "You" are not "separate" from the "external world" to engineer stuff in isolation. The self that wants to have "free" will is not "free" from everything else. This want to have a "free" will is a paradox you will never be able to reason your way out of.
I would recommend watching the video again, especially the summary part (the last chapter). Also, I would recommend watching the related videos I have added alongside this video - they would appear in the end screen and also at the very end of the description section of this video (above the comments section).
Also, I have two portals where I deal with people's questions directly:
Ask a Human, Not an AI - chetannarang.org/ask-a-human-not-an-ai/
      One-on-one with me - chetannarang.org/nondual-philosophical-counselling-mentorship/
Check them out and see if any of them also resonate with your questions right now. Happy to help.
      Until next time.
      Peace out.

Does everyone have sufficient money ?-No.
But many people actually have sufficient money.
    Do everyone have confidence?
    No.But many have sufficient confidence.
Do everyone have free will ?
No.But many people have free will. And those people constitute the wonderful part of the humanity.
If we don't have money, confidence, fitness or free will Its just our fault no one elses.

At first glance you look like a TH-camr who should be ignored because of your less views and subscribers. But after watching your videos ,I think your channel is one the channels that should be actually followed.

Thanks, Shivang. I appreciate that a lot!
And now that you've said this, I would appreciate it even more if you could help me spread the word. In the absolute ocean that the internet is right now, authentic word of mouth is the only way meaningful content like this can reach its well-deserved audience.
      Keep sharing the love!
Looking forward to seeing more of you here in the comments' section.
      Until next time.
      Peace out.

      Haha I can understand that.
Well, for what it’s worth, you can always share in your social media and hope it reaches someone who resonates with it. That’s what I would do.
Anyway, I hope this lands well with your friend too. Thanks again. ✌️
