I think also they want it to both livestream where they take the 1080 hit AND simultaneously record 4K 10 bit video files like I’m currently doing to cards. I’m being realistic and solely seeing this as an epic livestream tool
@@smallbizdigitalmedia sure but you don’t need a 4K streamer for that. Record internally in 4K and stream in HD. You can do that with ANY streaming hardware and a decent camera today. And have been able to for years.
Having not live-streamed before are you saying that I can use the Rodecaster Video for that and record 4K footage at the same time internally to the Sony camera cards? I did not think that was possible as they would be configured in the livestream setting?
I’m not a Sony user, but this has nothing to do with live stream settings. Many cameras (like my LUMIX cameras) can record 4K internally while outputting either 4K or HD over the HDMI. Some of the lower end models can’t output HDMI while recording, but most of them do.
It is interesting and exciting. I fwill personally be sticking to Blackmagic products. Have to reconsider how reliable it will be overtime and the updates and bug fixes etc. Coming from atem it doesn’t look the most intuitive to learn all of the features much shouldn’t be a long learning curve.

Great video. I would also mention that a big miss is that the ISO video recording is limited to 30fps even though you can set the program to 60fps. For my purposes that is a disqualifier
It’s a lot of power in that box. I think compared to the competition it’s extremely reasonable. I know it’s still a lot of money, but of course there are cheaper, less capable switchers on the market, too.
For the auto switch...If i have a rodecaster pro 2 as my audio input through usb c which clumps the mix into one track, is the only way for you to have auto mixing through the xrl's through the rodecaster video or rodecaster video audio inputs? I guess what im asking, lets say i have a three person podcast im mixing through the rodecaster pro ii, the auto switching feature really doesnt work well unless the audio inputs come from the rodecaster video, right?
This was very good and included information i first heard here. Thank you. I think Rode is going to try to get into the subscription service business. They will probably add "new" features later like they did with the wireless Rode mic support in Rodecaster II but i think they will try to get into that subscription revenue stream with 4K support and/or other capabilities down the road (pun). Hope i'm wrong.
I wonder if it has glitches or video dropouts like the Yolobox ultra?I really like the ultra but just like the YBP it can’t be relied on for corporate events.Ive had glitches and drop outs at a few different events.I may just have to try this to test the reliability!
Do you recommend this for two camera set up visual podcast and also live streaming of social events with multi cameras from simple user friendly and price point of view or any other product?
I caught your part about the iPhone but didn’t sound like it could be used as a video source. Perhaps im wrong. I have several iPhones and would like to use them as camera sources. I’m Jerry rigging them into the Mac with OBS. Is there a good hardware option out there? Excellent advice on not buying something with a promise/hope of future enhancements.
Does it record files the same way the ATEMs do, where if the drive becomes disconnected or there's a power loss, the files are still closed so they don't become corrupt?
FINALLY XLR into a compact video switcher. I wonder if those antennas are also linked to the wireless microphone receiver? Not a fan of that choppy Multiview thumbnails. I'm curious how this will compare to the Yolo box Extreme. Also, the fact that the ISO recordings can only max to 1080p30 when your master program can output 1080p60 is unappealing.
Was the audio delay on the master output or per input? On my ATEM I need to use both audio inputs so I can have one delayed for lip sync but one at 0ms for video playback. I saw a fader there for audio level of the onboard media player, but if that audio gets delayed at the master it would throw out the video sync. Surely it's per input?
That… is an extremely good point. It is a master delay. Surely that wouldn’t delay audio on videos it’s playing, only on audio input though. Surely. Has to be! 😳
Aaron Parecki's getting started video goes into more depth on audio I/O config. The delay only applies to mic inputs (analog and wireless), not video sources. Interestingly, on the output side, if you make the monitor mix "custom" instead of "live mix", it strips the audio delay from that output. So wireless mics paired directly with the switcher can be fed out to a room PA without delay. Headphone outputs do not have delay either. This is definitely a powerful little switcher!
Hey, that is a great overview. When saving shows, are than also all Rode central Settings (Audio, …) saved? Is it possible to integrate an area of the screen or an app window via the usb connection or can it only get video via hdmi in? Is it possible to control the device with a stream deck (maybe midi)? Thanks for the great video
I don’t have an answer to “why”. It is noticeable, although I would point out that since this product is really designed for the solo creator and not a big production studio needing frame-accurate cuts, then it probably really doesn’t matter. But yes, it stutters.
@@photojoseph I think that's the core difference between Rode and blackmagic. BMD is a professional video device company, they know this is kind of reduced framerate preview is not really acceptable. I bet if you measure the delay from input to output, it will also be more than ATEM. Bet I agree Rode have a very good PM.
Thanks for the video. Can you mention how does it handle rtmp streaming? What's the output quality? What type of encoding does it do for recordings? Does it support multiple platforms? Also with an external battery powering it how long can a livestream at 1080p last ? I saw a bluetooth icon and you mentioned it can utilize a mobile microphone, can it route phone calls ?
1. High/medium/low quality; bitrates aren’t visible 2. Encoding type not shown 3. RMTP so anywhere 4. MP4 5. See 3 6. Look at the battery in the video - it shows estimated time. 7. No idea
Can you pair the RodeCaster Video with an ATEM Mini to cover the things that the RCV can't do, like green screen? I have an existing ATEM Mini Pro and was considering getting the ATEM Mini Extreme ISO but maybe the RCV would be a better purchase in this case. Could you do a video where you could use the 2 together?
Unless the RCV gets bitfocus Companion support then combining them would be tedious. However the RCV does green screen (chroma keying) - sound like you didn’t watch this full video 😉
@@photojoseph You're right, I skipped to the part where you talk about what's missing, and you say there is no reasonable way to play videos with transparency, so I assumed you can't use a green screen. I have seen that Aaron Parecki found a workaround, but just thought that since I already have an ATEM, I could use that. My bad, I'll go back and watch the whole video.
I have used it for years, and unfortunately, it does not perform well for stereo audio (music). The sound is quite muffled, with overly pronounced mids, and no amount of software adjustment seems to improve this. Additionally, it is difficult to achieve proper balance as it is inherently unbalanced. Overall, it is not suitable for music playback, though it may be acceptable for regular mono microphones.
I would like to add that the Rode has another significant advantage-video playback-and is much easier to use compared to the ATEM, which is far more complex when it comes to creating scenes. While I recognise that you're an expert in this field, and your videos have been incredibly helpful to me, the average user is looking to get started quickly, whereas the ATEM requires a steep learning curve.
You are assuming very incorrectly. And i did talk pricing, so clearly you didn’t watch to the end. My favorite comments… full of incorrect assumptions and accusations! Yay, you!
@@BlueDiamond-s8u yes, RØDE sent this to me to review. That’s how this works. If you feel that being given a product to review constitutes “payment” then you are sorely mistaken. I can’t pay my rent, my bills, my salary, nor buy food with free product. So no, having one more switcher on my shelf of a dozen video switchers is not “being paid by RØDE”. This is my job. Getting product for “payment” is what you get when you’re a new TH-camr with a day job and you’re thrilled that a company recognizes you. That’s not me, nor anyone else who had the RØDE to review before it was released. Very last one of us does this for a living. I hope that helps to explain the situation.
Can you explain if it is possible to this device to not upload the music track to VOD on twitch as is made in OBS ? it will be very helpful and I am sure it will be interesting :D
I don't understand the question. This doesn't upload, it streams. I'm not a twitch user so I don't know what the VOD setup is, but if it's where you upload a video to playback later (like youtube) then you can upload from your computer. Not this, as it's a streaming device, not an uploader. If that doesn't answer your question, please clarify what you're asking.
Thank you for your response! I’m surprised you weren’t aware of this, but it’s also a streaming device-and a really good one at that! I use an ATEM Mini Pro ISO and a Rodecaster Pro 2, and this device integrates both. It can stream directly to TH-cam and Twitch from the LAN port. On Twitch, we can play background music, and while it plays during the live stream, the VOD (Video on Demand) doesn’t have the music recorded (we choose not to upload the music to avoid copyright claims). It’s very useful for streamers. And yes, the new Rodecaster is indeed a streaming device, not just a switcher. Even the ATEM Mini Pro ISO can stream and record. I recommend you look into this-it may surprise you! 😀 God bless your day!
your response is making my head hurt. I said "This doesn't upload, it streams" and you responded "I’m surprised you weren’t aware of this, but it’s also a streaming device". Huh? I mean, if you watched this video, you know that I know it streams. As for the Twitch thing, it sounds to me like the Twitch background music thing is something you do _on Twitch_ , not in your switcher/streamer. Which means it never has anything to do with the RØDE (or ATEM), so the original question doesn't make sense.
In what way would you like to combine them? Combining the Yolo and ATM makes sense for things likebuilt-in titling, and I suppose you could use it for that as well here however there are fewer features to take advantage of.
I had a YoloBox Ultra for a short time. Found it to be an absolute letdown. Wish there was something as powerful and user friendly as this or the ATEM series but with a decent sized battery to get that easy mobility. Yolobox really got me excited for truely mobile production for streams, but i got my money back as soon as i could. Found it to be underpowered and not very user friendly, some weird interface choices etc.
As you saw with the WebCam tests, some things work and some things do not. I haven’t tested either of those so I would say without further testing, I don’t know.
Knowing Rode products they lack listening to feedback and implementing much needed features. I don't expect supporting transparent videos, XML, and multi stream. The Yololiv and ATEM are winners depending on the outcomes.
@@photojoseph I have their RodeCaster Pro V1. Rode just let that fall by the wayside. I had hopes they would continue support the product software. Which led me to think if I get the RodeCaster Video and connect to usb-c for audio. I'd have 8 audio channels. Just a thought 🤔
I am wondering if this unit could replace eCamm. Could I make remote recordings with a subject matter expert coming in via Zoom and have them in a window, make different scenes with their video and audio matching up with mine.
Can the auto switching also switch to an angle when there is silence, and switch when 2 speakers are talking into mics at the same time, to trigger a switch to an angle as well?
I don’t know what the algorithm will do in that caes. Unfortunately I’m alone in the studio so really couldn’t test this effectively. I’ll have to stage an interview to really give it a go. Good video topic for sure.
Great device, but with no NDI or SRT, I can't leave the PC out of the chain. If I can't pull the PC, then I may as well build the scenes there because it's far more flexible. Chicken - Egg.
I really want this but on my workflow I use logo, lower 3rds and tickers.. any ideas on how to do that knowing that it only allows one graphic at a time? Thanks for the great video!
No question the RCVideo has the best Audio. But it video is lacking. My RCP2 for Audio + my YoloBox Ultra is a 'much' better total package (yes it more $$$) but I had (like a lot of people) already have a RCP2 buying this thing is basically buying another RCP2. Not something I would recommend except to a few people
They actually do have a lock that’s in one of their marketing photos; they did not send that to me though. And correct; I pointed that out in the wrap-up.
Haha yeah I’ve always felt that way about their software. The “problem” is that it’s modeled after the hardware, which has been around forever. You’ve got massive broadcast studios standardized on it; making changes can really mess people up. They’d need to simultaneously develop a whole new interface that was compatible with existing hardware and probably support both systems for at minimum half a decade. Victim of their own success here.
@@photojoseph makes sense. Explains why it can be quirky at times. I bought the mini pro but I think I’m gonna sell it and get the yolo or possibly an rgb link. I was about to ask you if it Stream to multiple Platforms like OseeGo stream, that stream to 3 platform simultaneously...hahahah
But you answered my question.
Thanks.
I try ;-)
Great job, best rundown of this hardware! I would like step by step comparision
Thank you, and noted!
Great video. I would also mention that a big miss is that the ISO video recording is limited to 30fps even though you can set the program to 60fps. For my purposes that is a disqualifier
Is it? I hadn’t tested that; that’s curious. Where did you come across that info?
This is impressive ... but the price is a bit on the steep side especially for us 2nd and 3rd country audience ...
It’s a lot of power in that box. I think compared to the competition it’s extremely reasonable. I know it’s still a lot of money, but of course there are cheaper, less capable switchers on the market, too.
Fantastic overview!. Would be nice to see how this could be use pair together with a Rodecaster Duo for PC or Console game streaming!.
That’s why you can use the audio from the cameras (audio input on HDMI) to trigger the switching, but not actually use that audio in the mix!
@ dude, you’re the man. Thank you! 🙏
Hm, I have seen no indication of that. What makes you think so?
20:30 good stuff.. a technical break down on video transperancy..
Important stuff!
I wonder if it has glitches or video dropouts like the Yolobox ultra?I really like the ultra but just like the YBP it can’t be relied on for corporate events.Ive had glitches and drop outs at a few different events.I may just have to try this to test the reliability!
Yeah that’s definitely something that can only be tested in long run situations!
Great presentation! Im sure the 2nd version will be better, this seems to be more of hybrid of a video switcher and mixer or a high power stream deck.
But a stream deck is just a remote control. Not a switcher.
Do you recommend this for two camera set up visual podcast and also live streaming of social events with multi cameras from simple user friendly and price point of view or any other product?
I definitely recommend this. If it’s in your budget it’s extremely capable and easy to use.
You can do that today with any switcher using a USB-C to HDMI cable and an app like blackmagic camera app which can output a clean video feed.
excited to hear your thoughts!
Hey man, thanks for stopping by!!
Does it record files the same way the ATEMs do, where if the drive becomes disconnected or there's a power loss, the files are still closed so they don't become corrupt?
Excellent question that I did not test. I’ll have to try that out.
Do you know if you can export the video files to a network drive remotely? So that a team of editors can grab the files and edit from other locations
You can not, although that seems feasible. You should suggest it to RØDE!
Agreed about the thumbnails, but keep in mind this is really designed for the solo creator, not for a production studio.
Buttons a-g would be great if they were small oled screens like a steamdeck
Would be cool. Wonder how that’d affect the cost?
@@MegaKrustyman very cool!
Please watch the video entirely. I answered all of those questions in the video.
@@photojoseph ok then maybe my english lagged a bit or I yurt have overseen something. I watched the entire video. Try it again :-)
I have manual subtitles that have been localized to many languages. What is your native language? I'll be sure to add that to the list.
why are the camera views in multiview so low framerate?
I don’t have an answer to “why”. It is noticeable, although I would point out that since this product is really designed for the solo creator and not a big production studio needing frame-accurate cuts, then it probably really doesn’t matter. But yes, it stutters.
@@photojoseph I think that's the core difference between Rode and blackmagic. BMD is a professional video device company, they know this is kind of reduced framerate preview is not really acceptable. I bet if you measure the delay from input to output, it will also be more than ATEM. Bet I agree Rode have a very good PM.
Check my new video - the q&a one. I measure the RØDE delay. No idea what the ATEM one is; I’ve never measured it. But if you know, you can compare!
love your color hdmi :)
where did you buy them? thnks
They're from RØDE direct. Here you go: geni.us/4JP0L
1. High/medium/low quality; bitrates aren’t visible
2. Encoding type not shown
3. RMTP so anywhere
4. MP4
5. See 3
6. Look at the battery in the video - it shows estimated time.
7. No idea
@@photojosephnice reply. Handy if everyone numbered their answering points like this here with PhotoJoseph...
This machine is "The Bomb" 💥
Haha it’s pretty crackalackin’
Do the HDMI inputs also receive audio signals? If yes, are these still recoreded separately for post-production work?
Yes, you can see that when I’m showing how to add audio inputs
If I have 2 sets of rode go 2 mics (so 2 receivers and 4 mics) can they all connect to this via the wireless mic options or is it limited to 2?
It’s limited to two. It’s probably a dual receiver just like is in the wireless pro receivers, capable of connecting to two mics.
Can the overlays fade in and out?
You know what… I’m not sure. If you have a transition enabled for input changes that probably applies to graphics too but I’m really not sure!
@@photojoseph Thanks for your response!
Thanks. It has a very good and easy keyer - but you can’t apply a key to a video it’s playing back.
Major win for Rode is Audio… never been happay with Atem audio…
This really has great audio support. What don't you like about the ATEM's audio?
Fascinating to hear! Thanks for sharing that.
Yes, the video playback is a HUGE advantage.
Exciting times.
Yes!!
what about custom stinger transitions?.. it would be awesome on future updates
That would be!
Thanks for the review
You are assuming very incorrectly. And i did talk pricing, so clearly you didn’t watch to the end. My favorite comments… full of incorrect assumptions and accusations! Yay, you!
Thanks for the review
Hi. How is the latency? Can it be used for IMAG and live events?
Latency is from the cameras. I haven’t measured to see if additional latency is added by the switcher but typically there is not.
Yolobox Ultra vs Rodecaster video vs Osbot Talent please!
Excellent Video!
Thank you very much!
Great video thank you for the review I would like to see how the Rose Caster Video and Yolobox Ultra can work together combined
In what way would you like to combine them? Combining the Yolo and ATM makes sense for things likebuilt-in titling, and I suppose you could use it for that as well here however there are fewer features to take advantage of.
I'd like to see a deep dive into this thing, especially with using the rode wireless pro mics
Yeah I do want to dive into that more!
What codec it’s used for live-streaming and recording?
Answered in detail in a video in releasing tomorrow!
It’s a unique product for sure. Sorry to hear it didn’t meet expectations.
@@photojoseph dealbreaker was not having media controls! Great videos jo
Can we bringing live Video from one of the USB C Ports? Eg connect IPHONE via USB-C or video from a computer?
As you saw with the WebCam tests, some things work and some things do not. I haven’t tested either of those so I would say without further testing, I don’t know.
Knowing Rode products they lack listening to feedback and implementing much needed features. I don't expect supporting transparent videos, XML, and multi stream.
The Yololiv and ATEM are winners depending on the outcomes.
Interesting. They’ve been extremely receptive to feedback during the testing period.
Anyone know if you're able to assign the source for the two HDMI outputs?
Program, preview or multiview.
Using USB input on Yolobox Ultra from USB out on small mixer is not about and can negate the XLR input advantage of the Rodecaster Video, or can it?
I suppose that depends on the quality of the mixer.
I am wondering if this unit could replace eCamm. Could I make remote recordings with a subject matter expert coming in via Zoom and have them in a window, make different scenes with their video and audio matching up with mine.
That’s just screen scraping, like the ATEM. Does ecamm isolate the feeds from zoom?
@@photojoseph yes, it has an integration that can bring in people as guests. Saves ISO files of footage and does mix minus on audio.
Nice. Definitely don't have that here. There's no native Zoom integration.
Waaaa it. Did I just hear the word iso.. I had to rewind ⏪ to realize what was just said !!😂❤😂❤❤❤❤❤
LOL yep ISO video recording on all inputs!
Thank you for the review! Do you know if a POE++ switch will provide enough power to drive the RodeCaster-Video then via ethernet alone?
There is no PoE support that I’m aware of. Wasn’t in the specs and I didn’t test it. I think they would have told us if it were.
Just a quick question, can I use it by only my cellphone and skip computer? Or it have to connect to a computer to make it works?
You can do nearly everything without a computer. There is no mobile app, but you don’t need it.
@@photojoseph thanks for replying
Can the auto switching also switch to an angle when there is silence, and switch when 2 speakers are talking into mics at the same time, to trigger a switch to an angle as well?
I don’t know what the algorithm will do in that caes. Unfortunately I’m alone in the studio so really couldn’t test this effectively. I’ll have to stage an interview to really give it a go. Good video topic for sure.
YoloBox Ultra has that, switch delay, minimum duration, threashold, . th-cam.com/video/dlyDCfEIWnw/w-d-xo.htmlsi=dMfT-Zozl-XJLNjQ
What a nice review! Thank you very much! Could you compare Rode videocaster with Roland VHD1+?
Someone else will need to do that - I don’t have one, sorry.
oye mate - montior over network is what I feel kills me with the atem. I have 2 pro iso's and now I feel like it's time to sell them
It’s an amazing n feature
Joseph, have you tried to do replay shots from the recorded files?
It's something that the software programs are able to do.
No, there’s no way to access the recorded files without connecting the drive to a computer. That would be a cool feature though for sure.
Great device, but with no NDI or SRT, I can't leave the PC out of the chain. If I can't pull the PC, then I may as well build the scenes there because it's far more flexible. Chicken - Egg.
Makes sense!
Great intro to this fascinating product. Can it do a luma key?
No, it can’t. Chroma key only
ATEM Mini Pro ISO / Extreme ISO is still a winner
Depends on your use case, really… but yes the ATEM is still extremely good.
It has 8 bit color depth . . .So, whether that's a deal killer depends on whether you tend to color correct your videos in post. Just a thought.
Aren’t the MP4 files generated by the ATEM also 8-bit?
@@photojoseph ATEM mini extreme is 10 bit
Really… ok I’ll add this to the list of comparisons and will verify the bit depth of the RØDE output. Thanks!
I just wish they did more like Yolobox Ultra did.
Fortunately, you can buy the Yolobox Ultra! What’d the point of making the same product?
I really want this but on my workflow I use logo, lower 3rds and tickers.. any ideas on how to do that knowing that it only allows one graphic at a time? Thanks for the great video!
Like I said in the video, you’d have to make combo graphics. I’d like to think that’s a feature they can add later through software though.
@@photojoseph thank you!
Wow, awesome
Thanks 🤗
Atomos has a great display that does switching and ISO recording
Yes it does. That is, however, all that it does.
No question the RCVideo has the best Audio. But it video is lacking. My RCP2 for Audio + my YoloBox Ultra is a 'much' better total package (yes it more $$$) but I had (like a lot of people) already have a RCP2 buying this thing is basically buying another RCP2. Not something I would recommend except to a few people
Totally fair! That’s the challenge being late to the game.
I am conserved the power adapter is usb c and no locking connection…
They do not also have the ecosystem advantage BMD has
They actually do have a lock that’s in one of their marketing photos; they did not send that to me though. And correct; I pointed that out in the wrap-up.
I want you to show us how the intelligent switcher works with no operator.
Yep, I am planning a video on that.
ISO - 1080P instead of 4K input🤔. I will look into RGBlink instead
Correct, it will only accept 1080p inputs
Shockingly expensive!
it really isn't… for what it is, I disagree. It's right in line with the competition.
I wanna run more then 4 cameras
Then you should look into ATEM Mini Extreme.
Let’s talk about why Atem seems so outdated when it comes to their software. Why does it give Windows xp vibes? It’s 2024!!!😅
In a tech guy and to use bmd software fully you almost need a full on onboarding session to learn how to use lower thirds and some of the other features. Luckily there’s tons of atem videos that help.
Great vids by the way! In picking a few TH-cam channels to 3D print something for in an upcoming video. If you’re interested I’d love to print something for you or your channel. Logo, a 3d bust of you, camera gear, etc. free of charge. What ya think?
I appreciate that, thanks. I actually have a friend who has a big 3D printing company so my needs are covered, but if you come up with some super clever idea, I’d love to see it!
@@photojoseph sure thing!!

I don’t believe there is a Yolobox Extreme. The ATEM Extreme has eight HDMI inputs, which is what I said. The YoloBox Ultra has four.
@@photojoseph there is, it was announced at IBC2024. Type Yolobox Extreme on TH-cam and filter by last month.
