Slim Dusty, AO MBE (born David Gordon Kirkpatrick; 13 June 1927 - 19 September 2003) was an Australian country music singer-songwriter, guitarist and producer. He was an Australian cultural icon and one of the country's most awarded stars, with a career spanning nearly seven decades and numerous recordings. He was known to record songs in the legacy of Australia, particularly of bush life and renowned Australian bush poets Henry Lawson and Banjo Paterson that represented the lifestyle. The music genre was coined the "bush ballad", a style first made popular by Buddy Williams, the first artist to perform the genre in Australia, and also for his many trucking songs. Dusty was the first Australian to have a No. 1 international hit song, with a version of Gordon Parsons' "A Pub with No Beer". He received an unequalled 37 Golden Guitar and two Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) awards and was inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame and the Country Music Roll of Renown. - เพลง

This song is about a homeless man drowning himself rather than rotting in prison at the hands of corrupt authorities, and Aussies sing it as proudly as their anthem.

G'day! Canada here: as a kid I grew up on Canadian Military bases (we were called base brats) and there were continuous exchanges with soldiers and airmen from other Commonwealth countries. By far the favourites were the Aussies - military bases are dreary places, but they lit up when the Aussies were here. We learned all about Mateship. Slim Dusty and Gordon Ramsay. They were the most open and hospitable guys I have seen. How can you not love a country which pauses in the middle of Slim's funeral to sing Pub With No Beer? All the best to you, mates.

The song was written by Banjo Patterson. The lyrics describe the trouble a Swagman, basically a tramp, gets into before drowning himself to avoid being arrested. Pretty deep eh?
As an aside, this is the march of the 1st Marine Division. After the Battle of Guadalcanal, they went to Australia to reconstitute their losses. They were there long enough to be adopted by the local population. When they left, the locals made their patches. If you look at their division emblem is has the Southern Cross on it.
The people of Australia still remember them to this day. A couple of years ago, the grandkids and great-grandkids came to America to visit them
