    Lyrics:
    I'm a ringer from the top end where ya gotta know your job
    And what you're doin' each day on 2 million acres you bet
    Ya have to earn your pay if ya wanna take it on
    There's one thing that shouldn't be forgotten
    Nobody else can do the job like a ringer from the top end
    Out on the fence line swallowing dust, blood on my hands from the barb
    Hoping that rogue bull won't see the hole before they get him in the yard
    But I get a funny feeling in the middle of my back
    Sure enough he's coming like a train down the track
    That's when nobody else moves faster than the ringer from the top end
    Instrumental
    I'm a ringer from the top end
    Where ya gotta muster 3 thousand head in a day
    Move 'em to the yards and water them at end of day
    It's not the sort of job you'd take if you're looking for a soft one
    But ya take a kinda pride in saying, "I'm a ringer from the top end."
    Well I roll out my swag 'neath the boab tree
    And then I'm out like a light dreaming about those girls in town
    Next thing it's broad daylight no time to dream of what might have been
    I'm in a dirty bull catcher with the mustering team
    I better keep my mind on the job 'cause I'm a ringer from the top end. Hey!
    And nobody does the job better than a ringer from the top end. Oh Yeah!
    Slim Dusty, AO MBE (born David Gordon Kirkpatrick; 13 June 1927 - 19 September 2003) was an Australian country music singer-songwriter, guitarist and producer. He was an Australian cultural icon and one of the country's most awarded stars, with a career spanning nearly seven decades and numerous recordings. He was known to record songs in the legacy of Australia, particularly of bush life and renowned Australian bush poets Henry Lawson and Banjo Paterson that represented the lifestyle. The music genre was coined the "bush ballad", a style first made popular by Buddy Williams, the first artist to perform the genre in Australia, and also for his many trucking songs. Dusty was the first Australian to have a No. 1 international hit song, with a version of Gordon Parsons' "A Pub with No Beer". He received an unequalled 37 Golden Guitar and two Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) awards and was inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame and the Country Music Roll of Renown

      +Isaac Raschke Too much silly boasting nonsense. All stockmen in the old days did the same work if they were working in stock camps well out bush on a big station when only horses were used. Mustering, camp drafting, branding etc in bronco yards using greenhide ropes, breaking in etc etc and later catching buffalo by Toyota or trap yards.

    • @Isaac-ho8gh
      @Isaac-ho8gh 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      @undertheblade1 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @pittycross you make me cringe! And I must say you do not speak like you are a tough outback farmer at all. This song speaks volumes for all the ringers out there who do it tough and sleep in their swags! Mate being ringer is pussy's work now days compared to when they used to do it in the old days! You make all the women, men and all the hard working people in the outback cringe with this one comment!

    • @henryrainger7456
      @henryrainger7456 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      "A tough outback farmer?" Never heard that term before in my 69 years, the last 50 of them here in the NT.
      And I mean to take nothing away from all those in the game today, and I well know some in the north are still bull catching, even from horseback.
      I worked in stockcamps and contract mustering camps here in the NT in the 60's when it was only horses, the only vehicle was the camp truck to carry gear. By then many stations had wire yards to hold cattle or we watched them at night, and it was all bronco yards for branding and cutting, no portable yards back then. Other times we camp drafted in the open. All stations had horse breakers or contract breakers and these horses went into the stock camps, often rough broke in.
      No, I take nothing away from today's stockmen and women, but it was a far different job back in my day when stations still had blacks camps and the black stockmen always camped 40 or 50 yards away from the white stockmen in the stockcamp.
      My point was Slim's song was a load on nonsense as back in the day all stockmen faced the same challenges, and 'Ringers From The Top End' were no different to most stockmen on big stations.
