I spent 664 hours painting over 301 days so far this year (~2hrs a day when everyone is asleep). I was able to finish 652 minis/terrain pieces, some of which I am proud of!
I painted 81 models to completion this year, not bad for starting in September and working. Full time. Went from paint noob to my first commission in the span of 3 months. The growth is super real. And you guys have ABSOLUTELY helped with all the tips and tricks videos and supportive community. Just tried making false snow for the first time off of one of your vids the other day and I love the outcome! 🖤 Keep being awesome guys
Your channel has really motivated me, I’ve managed a few hundred this year and found it therapeutic. Thanks for highlighting how awesome our community is and keeping me going when I’ve had those hobby burn out weeks, thank you Jay
I tend to paint 1 mini on Wednesdays. Sometimes a second one somewhere else in the week. I started on September 22nd this year and got 21 painted mini´s right now. Each taking 3 hours of painting take or less a few minutes. (Not counting basing, priming and assembly) To me it's about quality and not quantity and I do want to play my blood bowl teams sometime in the future when the Games Workshops are allowed to run matches again.
I think I painted something like 120 models this year, which is more than ever for me. Painting along with you guys at night helped me progress a LOT. Thanks for being a constant source of inspiration.
Recently returned to the hobby after many years away. Kill Team 2021 brought me back and I managed to get a Warp Coven, Death Guard, Grey knights, and Genestealer Cult teams painted for a total of 50 models. Looking forward to many more next year!
Awesome! And inspirational - makes me want to get more done in 2022 than this year (226). Try a different kind of storage. They don't all need to be on display. Maybe try drawers - I use metal stationary cabinets (but only because I got them very cheap from an office that was closing). Ikea do some very neat wooden storage cabinets.
Ah! Well done Jay. Well done. That retrospective video made me also look back to all the models that I have painted this year. I could achieve seven hundred model this year. I can thank multiple lock down for that amount of free time. We can all be proud of what we achieved!
I came back to the hobby in February, paintet about 200 models since then and now one of them made it to Jay's videos. A great finale to a good year :-) (hobbywise) Thank you!
Managed to paint 500pts of ad mech (40 ish models) , 1 tau kill team (10 models). 50 in total. Honestly pretty happy with myself. Had my first 40k games this year. Really enjoy how zen mode I get when I paint. Really happy to have found this hobby and its nice to have a creative outlet i didnt have prior to this
Cool - I've watched youtubers painting hundreds of models but I love Space Hulk for that very reason - low model count - quick gameplay and you can fit as many rounds in as your have time. God for you!!
Just got back into the hobby after about a years hiatus and decided to tackle my pile of shame. Didn't get an official count but I knocked out over 100 models since the end of October. All geared up to start a new Ork army in 2022!
I'm a couple months late and don't have an exact count, but I painted up my clones from my Legion republic core set, a box of arc troopers, a box of specialists, a phase one upgrade box, two republic AT-RTs, a Sabre tank, and possibly my proudest paint job so far is my Captain Rex. Your videos and others are what gave me the courage to sit down and put paint on models, taking risks and learning as I go. Thank you!
I'm actually doing my own end of year video soon so I know the exact number of minis I've painted. I've painted 218 but by the time the video is done I think I'll be adding 3 to that. You've done amazingly this year, I hope next year brings you more success, you deserve it!
Great Video, really impressive. I just spent 48hours to paint a full Necron army, the first time i owned a fully painted army since i started the hobby in 2018. Your Videos really motivated me to not spend 8h on a single Necron and just get it done. Feels great.
That legion of the damned Sargeant is absolutely incredible... Whilst you were saying you weren't happy with it I was wiping drool off my phone. Thanks for the showcase, looks like a great year. Happy holidays and looking forward to the next one!
Wow - stunning work! I’ve done a Broodlord, 3 Genestealers, 12 Devourer gaunts, 2 Carnifexes, 3 ripper swarm bases, 6 Tyranid Warriors, a Tyranid Prime, a Neurothrope and 4 Zoanthropes …so 33 models! Many are magnetised with multiple weapon options and all varnished so not too bad for me!
And you know what's a great fit, those transitions. Really this makes me want to document all Mine. I started maybe a year and a half ago, so it'll be a correlation to your first video, but its a great inspiration. Thanks.
I started early January, but I got burned out quickly. When I came back this winter, I painted 4 minis and I'm giving 2 of them to my parents. In total I have painted 7 and I am proud...
I'm sitting at 497 with a week left in the year. The majority of them were Malifaux, but GW, Mantic, Reaper, and D&D/Pathfinmder were also represented. Good work btw, and great video.
You painted more minis, hand gestured ✋ 🤚 wayyyyy more ……and perfectly enunciated the T consonant in words like “buTTT” and “noTTT” than I did in 2021!!! 😂. Looking forward to more of the same in 2022!!!
Yup, you have me beat. I thought my 350 this year was a lot. Though mine are definitely not to Jay's level of awesomeness! I'll send something in to EOB Complete one of these days. Great year, love your channel!
Thanks for a year of great content! As someone who also painted a few hundred models this year, its really fun to see how much you can improve, but my god getting rid of some really helps clear the house up
I've gotten into miniature painting this last year. Started with a box of Mansions of Madness figures. Finished most of the characters, but bit off more than I could chew with the bases. Finished only 6 of them. What really kicked it off were the statues/large figures from Etsy. First I did a Tali Zorah. First time sculpting, and painting the filigree was an experience. Then I constructed my part of my first Necron army. About 38 units. I painted the core box of Heroquest. About 30 models. Painted a pin up of Zelda. Then I went straight into a NMM purple on the army. I did a bust of Superman, and am now building about 40-50 Adepta Sororitas so my father and I can have a crusade. First year of wargaming, and I did 92 completed miniatures, 3 models that are between the size of a energy drink and a textbook, and built another 40-50 which I will paint soon.
29 minis and 4 dioramas this year. I only started in the hobby last December and the more I have improved the longer it takes me to finish as the paint job gets better.
What I painted this year: All currently "usable" necron models up to full unit size (including forgeworld) all underworlds warbands (ALL) and terrain pieces, some general terrain pieces, some 3D printed DnD figures, and some seraphon-esque models from onepagerules
I have only painted 3 (2 saurus warriors and a skink priest) but to be fair i only (re-)started painted at the start of december. This channel was a large part of inspiring me to do so
Well done! My personal best was in 2019, with 1,082 painted. Only managed 109 this year, but I finally bottomed out my pile of shame at the start of year and it's currently only regrown to be 121 models strong so I was never going to be breaking records this year even if I kept on top of things.
I started 3 new miniatures games this year, all of which were miniatures agnostic games and all of which I 3D printed a lot of the models for, and added new models to old games. This video made me actually go look and see how many miniatures I actually made and painted this year. I somehow painted 427 models this year. Models for Reign in Hell, Five Parsecs from Home, Gaslands, D&D and Grimdark Future. I have no idea what I am doing with myself, lol
This is what I love about your channel, you drop little facts like "I only played with 155" and I think "wait... the amount of work that must of had to go into working that out is ridiculous...!"
Always love watching you before my 12 hour shift at the hospital … always so calming … if you do start commission painting I have a aTau army that will need to be completed 😁🤗 can’t wait to see what next year brings for your Channel 🤖🤖 I finished One Large Model this year My Forgeworld Warlord Titan magnetized with every weapon option available House Gryphonicus!
I painted 157 miniatures this year (necron half of indomitus, some necron extras, csm start collecting, two big board games, and some extras). I could've got more done, but I slowed down in may. I had started using oil paints for the first time, but they took a lot of the fun out of the painting for me. it was a big mess to use them, and everything got nasty. the oil I used to thin the paints smelled bad and was gunky, and the models didn't turn out as good as I had hoped after many hours of painting. I might return to oil paints sometime in the future, but I really didn't like them. anyway, I barely got any painting done in june-august because I just wasn't motivated to paint. I started up again in september and painted up a board game. october-december I didn't do a ton of painting, I was really busy and everything I painted was characters for a board game so I painted everything one at a time and just painted 16 models in those three months
I was afraid of painting for years. I have finished my first complete squad ever, 15 old school pewter plague marines. Painting 15 at once was way too much, lesson learned. I have been collecting my army since close to the end of 4th edition and only painted single models. I now need to paint 6 biker marines whose bikes I have also quasi finished this year. Only the marines left and some highlights on the bikes to call them finished. I also started with my Defiler and made a lot of progress. Not too shabby for finally getting my ass in motion, getting into kind of a groove and really starting to paint after all these years. I just wish I had more time and energy to paint more. Btw: Your videos played a not small role in getting me back into the hobby after a nearly 10 year hiatus. Cheers for that! Edit: I also finished a Ranger model for my girlfriends weekly Pathfinder game. She was the first of all their players to bring a fully painted model instead of a paper cutout. I was quite proud of the reactions the mini got.
In the grim dark lictors, there is only disappointment... I'm jealous of all the nice miniatures you've been painting! But then again, you have over 500 miniatures in 7 years before you came to this level :D Over 400 in a year is still very impressive only man-reads-books can get to that level I think ;)
I just started painting this year and it was all Star Wars Legion. About 50 models I reckon. EOD had a part in making that happen. Looking forward to branching out into Infinity and Deadzone. I'd love to see you paint some models from these ranges. Different qualities and materials.
not a surprise that the ones you're not a fan of are similar dark, black colors, while the favorited ones are very colorful and vibrant. totally understand why you chose both, but even the least favorites are still good work.
I only found your channel a week ago and I've watched a few. This was a great video telling me your story. Your least favourite models are leagues above my standard. Cheers.ta.
I had a couple of thoughts about two of the three mini's you were disappointed in. First, when GW did metal mini's they were usually spin cast with vulcanized rubber molds as those are usually better than silicone for handling the hot metal and less like to get damaged during castings. So you might be right about that mini being a recast. Second, when dealing with metal mini's like the lictors you can use high grit sandpaper to smooth various surfaces on the mini. I saw someone do that with an old Grenadier Frost Giant Princess, where they sanded the skin to smooth it out and it made a world of difference in the final paint job.
This inspired me to figure out how much I painted! I know I've painted about 3500 points of Necrons, 2200 points of Adeptus Custodes, my chaos Blood Bowl team, my 800 point Imperial Star Wars Legion army, and about 12 Marvel Crisis Protocol minis. And like 6 Sisters of Battle. Maybe I can knock a few more out before the new year!
after building my workshop last year i started to track how many models i finished each month, i also made sure to track what was a personal project and what was a commission project, ill tally up those 2 catagories at the end of the year but so far this year I have painted a grand total of 862 models.
I have two huge advantages, one I'm retired, to I have always loved speed painting. I have a daily painting regimen that is based on doing 12 figures a day. Or six if I am doing cavalry. So for the last year I turned out 4, 190 figures
I've painted a commission and I'm working on another, but I've also painted a lot necron stuff. I guess the thing for me to discover now is how to streamline my speed while also keeping a good quality.
Lictor video idea 💡: Repaint or Retouch? Take two lictors, strip and repaint one vs retouching the other. It comes up with people eBay ing old models now and I think with your style you could give really good insights on the dilemma!
I know next year I'll be painting terrain til my eyes bleed. Hive city spanning 6 structures over 8 necromunda tiles. Enough fantasy terrain to build middle earth. If i can hit a painting stride half as well as you have pfffft would be so happy. Really Impressive to fill a table like that.
I managed to get 375 miniatures painted this year, which I think is about double what I painted the previous year. I've been in the hobby about two and a half years now, and although I'm not quite at your level yet, I've come pretty far from where I've started. I'd say by far my favourite thing I've painted this year is my keeper of secrets, it's a model I had admired since getting into the hobby and knew it had to be the centerpiece when I started my hedonites/chaos daemons armies. I'd say my least favourite things to paint were the blissbarb/slickblade seekers and blissbarb archers, both kits required a very steady hand to paint and had a lot of details which just ended up being more annoying to paint than satisfying, since they didn't look good just leaving them. Both kits took me a long time and really drained my motivation, I ended up finishing them just because I really couldn't bring myself to keep painting them, also it doesn't help that I haven't been able to get a game in with them as my friend group has lost interest in AoS. I'm looking forward to what next year will bring as I want to keep learning new techniques, this year I learned a lot and started blending with airbrushes and wet blending, next year I want to finally learn NNM as it's something I've been putting off for a while but I feel like I'm finally ready to try.
I have no idea how many I painted but I like the idea of keeping track for next year. I now have a fully painted necrons army though with about 3,500 points painted including a void dragon, which was my first big centrepiece model
I painted 1434 models in 2021. But. The kicker for me is that I didn't keep hardly any of them. I throw the majority of what I paint on ebay to have extra money for anything I might need it for as the pandemic has surprisingly not hurt, but increased, sales of well painted miniatures. I also didn't paint any of them up to a particularly high standard. Just cranking out lots of borderline high table top/low display quality level stuff. Almost no free-hand, but lots of carefully applied and blended in decals for unit numbers, emblems, division patches, etc. I painted more armoured vehicles (mostly for Bolt Action, little 40K, little Legion) in the last year than I did in the previous 10 before it. Over 150 of that count are just tanks and various AFVs. I'm already over 100 models into the year as of a couple hours ago, more of the same. Legion, Bolt Action and BattleTech. This year, I hope to paint more stuff for myself though, in particular Fallout models, as I have a small and growing backlog of Fallout stuff, and I don't like letting stuff sit in boxes for long.
Have you thought about making videos of playing the tabletop? You have enough models to bring newbies so they can play too. Plus more modles get playtime.
I'm sitting on a nice round number of 260 models for 2021, this year has been fantastic for my hobby and I can't wait to start my new wood elf army got AOS and Azogs legion for middle earth
I painted my adeptus Mechanicus army of 68 models and I'm 25 models in on my thousand sons. I felt accomplished... And then I saw this... Wowowow that is incredible.
Since the UK was in lockdown at the start of the year, I was happy with managing to paint 100 models in the first 3 months. Hoped to keep up the momentum but then we were freed from our prisons... I mean homes. Went back to work, started seeing friends, travelling the country, getting out every chance I got. In the final 9 months I painted just 12 :( It's still a record for most painted in a year and hopefully I might push to beat it again.
Holy bloody hell that's a lot of minis, I've managed to paint 2 and prime 6 more this year, I used to do 5 a day once a week but 459? How did you do that?
when jay is standing behind his table covered in miniatures it makes me think of a mukbang youtuber, and im waiting for him to take a bite out of a chaplin or a lictor
This video definitely sliced my bread. Congrats on the last 12 months... and on the last 15 months!!! :-) wishin you all the best in the new year.
thanks Brent!
More than a model a day, that's impressive. I built and primed a few hundred, but only finished painting 4 models.
I spent 664 hours painting over 301 days so far this year (~2hrs a day when everyone is asleep). I was able to finish 652 minis/terrain pieces, some of which I am proud of!
Awesome. My total was 448 so far this year. Gotta love the hobby productivity
My total was 14 (I only just started during Christmas '21)
I painted 81 models to completion this year, not bad for starting in September and working. Full time.

439... I'm a car modeler and in 2021 I haven't even cut off, sanded, primed, painted or assembled that many pieces on all my models combined... :D
Ah! Well done Jay. Well done. That retrospective video made me also look back to all the models that I have painted this year. I could achieve seven hundred model this year. I can thank multiple lock down for that amount of free time. We can all be proud of what we achieved!

Jay: These models look like a muddy mess.
Mortal painter: Dude, look how badass these models look!!
That's insane amount of quality and number in just a year. Full time painted really gets things done! Congrats!
Managed to paint 500pts of ad mech (40 ish models) , 1 tau kill team (10 models).
50 in total. Honestly pretty happy with myself. Had my first 40k games this year.

The Tyranids, when on the right side of the screen, look absolutely incredible!

Yes! I appreciate you acknowledge the space issue. I’ve run out of my room and need to figure how to give away older minis to make room.
Wow - stunning work!
I’ve done a Broodlord, 3 Genestealers, 12 Devourer gaunts, 2 Carnifexes, 3 ripper swarm bases, 6 Tyranid Warriors, a Tyranid Prime, a Neurothrope and 4 Zoanthropes …so 33 models!

Wow man if you painted all that just in this past year you've done a great job, keep up the good work!

I have painted a big fat ZERO mini’s. Ever. I don’t have the patients. But I enjoy watching and I’m amazed at the finished results. Keep it up
For 2021 I painted only 3 for dnd game. I'm just starting to get into warhammer and starting to build my minis
I started getting into painting in October and I’ve painted 12 and I’m having a blast!
Most impressive! congratulations to a job very well done!
This is what I love about your channel, you drop little facts like "I only played with 155" and I think "wait... the amount of work that must of had to go into working that out is ridiculous...!"
Well, you got me to count it up. I just got into this hobby this year and I dived into it headfirst: 424 minis since I started in May.

A good number ! I painted 315 miniatures since january, but my best year was 2019 with 1813 pieces. And I have a full-time job.
I think we all would love to see you play some games with your amazing minis!

Maybe I can knock a few more out before the new year!
after building my workshop last year i started to track how many models i finished each month, i also made sure to track what was a personal project and what was a commission project, ill tally up those 2 catagories at the end of the year but so far this year I have painted a grand total of
862 models.
I have two huge advantages, one I'm retired, to I have always loved speed painting. I have a daily painting regimen that is based on doing 12 figures a day. Or six if I am doing cavalry. So for the last year I turned out 4, 190 figures
When I saw the thumbnail my only thought yes. Yes you do
I started painting around August. I've done 10 models this year however did take a month off after having covid, I was too tired to paint much😅
Great stuff friend 👏 👍
I've painted a commission and I'm working on another, but I've also painted a lot necron stuff.
I guess the thing for me to discover now is how to streamline my speed while also keeping a good quality.
only started warhammer 40k 3 months ago. Managed to paint 119 models. Look forward to painting more this next year.
Year well spent! Well done sir.
Satin varnish helps when applied before the oil wash.
I have no idea how many I painted but I like the idea of keeping track for next year. I now have a fully painted necrons army though with about 3,500 points painted including a void dragon, which was my first big centrepiece model
just amazing man great work!
Really good video, I must say that even your worst models are the quality I'm striving for lol, I hope to paint as well as you some day :)
I only managed to paint 15 models this year, maybe 16 if I manage to finish the one that’s currently in progress
Congratulations man. Amazing work!
I painted my adeptus Mechanicus army of 68 models and I'm 25 models in on my thousand sons. I felt accomplished... And then I saw this... Wowowow that is incredible.
your deathguard are freaking epic. nice work!
I think the landraider looks great!
Holy bloody hell that's a lot of minis, I've managed to paint 2 and prime 6 more this year, I used to do 5 a day once a week but 459? How did you do that?
Loving the new vids! Keep it up!
i count mine and i'm at 245 models but i work full time... not so bad but super 2 tumbs up for your work!
You're a beast and an inspiration!
Yikes... I'm happy if I was able to paint like a tenth of that this year... Good job!
I think I painted a grand total offff 15 models this year? A couple minis for d&d, a unit of dark eldar, a couple of ork HQs, and an eldar HQ
Think I've done pretty well this year. Painted, literally, 10,000 points of space marines in 18months and most of it was since January. I'm happy.
Damn dude I painted one but of scenery all year, awesome work
when jay is standing behind his table covered in miniatures it makes me think of a mukbang youtuber, and im waiting for him to take a bite out of a chaplin or a lictor
