EXACTLY. i wanted to see a SOLO black widow movie, one that actually revealed the secrets that made natasha interesting. but then they just introduced a bunch of new characters so kevin feige could have a family dynamic in the movie.

Because black widow is a pretty uninteresting character considering the fact that she doesn't have any powers. There's a reason Hawkeye didn't get a movie although he has a show slated to release sometime this year. They're gonna make movies about the big guns first before making movies and shows abt side characters.

It didn’t feel like Thor’s, Capps, Tony’s, Hulks, Visions, Wandas, or Black Panthers origin stories. They didn’t really want to make her a movie, that’s the why the story has no meaningful depth.

Tbh they did want to make Black Widow movie but its just that because of the Ike Perlmutter situation, it just was too late to make a decent one... I mean Marvel Studios wanted a R rated Black Widow movie before Iron Man and kickstart the MCU with that but that didn't happen & its pretty clear that Feige wanted to make one after Age of Ultron but the Ike Perlmutter situation was resolved at a time when Infinity Saga was coming to an end and Marvel Studios became too much busy producing 3 movies simultaneously (IW, CAPTAIN MARVEL & ENDGAME) ... So the story they had in their hands wasn't top notch bit they just wanted to be done with it & give the black Widow mantle to someone new.. but i do think the movie we got could've done better with a better analysed story

@@npcimknot958 It's not the character that's sucking everyone in, it's the portrayal of the character that Florence Pugh does that people enjoy - with all of the improv, or the things brought into the movie based off of things she said/did on set. That's what made her character everyone's favourite.

I really didn't want to believe the first reviews when they said that Natasha became a side character IN HER OWN MOVIE. But after watching it, I'm kinda disappointed. They should've started off when Natasha was first taken IMO cause you can clearly tell just from the cold open that the story wasn't focused on her. She deserved better.
It's a trend Marvel has been doing. Sam & Bucky were side characters in their show against John Walker. Loki was a side character to the female version of himself, Sylvie. Now Natasha is a side character to Yelena. I don't like this new pattern.

They really could've given her a solo series. From the first big team-up film everyone's been asking what happened in Budapest. They could've done a film about that, and it's also give them a chance to expand on Clint's character cause boy did he need it.

It was just an okay movie for me. a Black Widow 1 movie should have been the beginning 10min Prologue, then Red Room growing up (not as a montage but at least show how they are really trained/treated there). Afterwards, Natasha going on Team or Solo Missions eventually wanting to escape from it. That is when she stumbles on to Shield and/or Bartan. Leading up to the Climax Mission of Budapest. After they escape from the Special Forces, Natasha should have reported to Fury for her first mission and Fury would have given her Tony Stark's File. This would not contradict any established lore in my opinion as in Natasha's mind, the Red Room is gone. Though she still did not care to try and rejoin with Yelena. Whether this has something to do with what happened in the Red Room or a clause in her arrangement with Shield, I don't know. The second half of this movie we got could have been a Black Widow 2 where Nat realizes the Red Room is still active. By separating this part into its own movie as a sequel they can better establish and build up characters rather than just building up Yelena and Alexei (depending on how you look at how they used Alexei). But it was really too late to make my idea for a Black Widow 1 as they needed to have done it before Civil War I believe. And Black Widow 2 could have come after which makes it more properly line up with the releases.
The opening credits were the best part of the movie hands down, that should have been the movie. The red room, the Thriller, the grittyness, the dark origin story we all wanted. And as you said: it should have happened way earlier.
You wrote everything that I’ve been thinking, it also would’ve been cool to include her run in with the Winter Soldier and this could’ve been set before CA:Winter Soldier… *sigh*
It’s no secret that this movie was Pugh’s introduction. They literally said as much during production because Yelena is going to be taking the mantle and will be the be the new frontrunner of the MCU and will also continue the rest of the Black Widow trilogy around her. So it’s not supposed to feel like just a Natasha story as it has to work as the first in yelenas trilogy also. But I agree that Natasha should’ve gotten her own trilogy long ago, and not just a role in a different black widows trilogy 10 years later.

the opening credits scenes was by far the best part of the movie. the song cover was haunting and worked so well with the theme of exploited girls. Florence Pugh is always a Win.
*Except that it wasn’t. I think they employed their typical representation of internal character, the light emanating an awakening. I love that Melina explained the science of it, because she never had the heart to see what truly lied before her, while Yelena (and Nat) always did and questioned the fireflies, representing whether there was any sense of family love to begin with.*

Everything else aside, Pugh is a great addition to the MCU, she feels grounded in a way that most of the characters don’t, but she pulls off quippy better than anyone else! “It has a lot of pockets, but I use them all the time!” And “I knew it, it’s so cool right? And you can put so much stuff in there. You wouldn’t even know.” Its the best scene in the movie!!!!
Pretty sure this movie had an agenda. Not any social or political agenda, but just one to set up yelena and the widows outside of the red room. Natasha really did get sidelined for her own movie. They could have done so much for her but decided to spend it on setting up other things, and ultimately giving a poor send off to a character that audiences really enjoyed. Movie wasn’t bad but it was just okay. Slightly better than Thor the Dark World if that makes any sense.
The thing I really couldn't get over in this was the daughter being a little girl when Natasha (an adult) supposedly killed her, but being 41 year old Olga Kurylenko, who is 5 years older than Scarlett whilst playing Taskmaster
I thought we would see Natasha at her real mother’s grave or something but NOOOOPE. They literally painted and foreshadowed that for almost not reason.
I really liked the Black Widow film. That being said, I left the theatre feeling cheated we didn't get a trilogy. But I suppose it doesn't matter now since after Endgame I only wanted to watch the Black Widow film and then stop watching the MCU.

Also those weren't his children, he didn't "sell them out" he just finished the assignment where he was assigned to them. It would make no sense for him to pretend to be their father when he was simply a russian spy. Maybe over the years after as he sat in prison his feelings changed but its not glossed over. I love Marvel but this movie is weaker than the rest of the Marvel movies. I really wanted a full Natasha origin story like those flashbacks we got during her Russian Childhood but instead it was soo monotone and too much talking. It was more of a get together family show rather than Natasha.

amigo, this is the best review i've seen for BW so far! I feel no one is talking enough about the MCU stuff like a true fan- just the movie plot! You made me realize the potential this movie had
Not gonna lie, I didn't like that Dreykov's daughter was another mindless slave. At that point, you could switch her out for any other Widow (I would have even preferred that because that would mean that Natasha intentionally killed a child for no reason but, in her past, that was an acceptable price). Imagine this though, she smashes a vial to release Taskmaster and it doesn't work because she's not mind controlled, she's just pissed and indoctrinated the same way Natasha was. One final fight gets her knocked out and arrested by Ross (or, she runs away to plot some more). Making her mind controlled kind of erases some of the darkness from Natasha where her actions... kind of had no consequences. Who's to say Dreykov wouldn't have mind controlled his daughter once she grew up anyway? All Natasha did in the end, was slightly disfigure a girl that would end up wearing a mask for most of her formative years anyway.
I did like that this film focused more on the victim part of being a black widow, and other stuff that others have articulated better than I can - over all I liked the film but I also think it could’ve been better, and it kinda sucks that we could have had a badass well written and directed Back widow trilogy but didn’t 😕
I thought Natasha got the willow that her mother apparently was buried at when they finally told her that she actually wanted her and tried to get her back.
I liked Black Widow. Even though I watch a lot of movie analyses on every movie known to man, I liked it. I appreciate the small things. Though, my inner marvel comics nerd was suffocating in the inside with Taskmaster, Iron Maiden, and Yelena. I wish they just would not have called Antonia Taskmaster in all the interviews and credits. I liked that character as a new character, not as Taskmaster. Anyways, as an average movie watcher, I liked Black Widow.
I had to google Florence Pugh just to make sure that she's not russian. That's how authentic she was. The way she talks, facial expressions - so on point. Amazing performance. Loved the movie as well. I think it's great. I see why people saying that this is Winter Soldier rip off but I disagree. Black Widow is really about family with action sequences as the side dish, when Winter Soldier was action first, friendship second.

How could it be “extremely misogynistic” when literally ever transition scene was a stupid ass shot. If you took a shot for everytime they had a girls ass in the center of the screen you would die from alcohol poisoning. All we FANS want is a good damn movie that is actually made with care. Look at how amazing the reviews were for Wonder Woman. Because guess what....it was a great movie. Huge downside to it was all the slow motion and the twist villain wasn’t really a surprise, but overall the movie was great.

They Xmen origined Taskmaster. The only thing they kept of Taskmaster was his moveset/Powers. There's a reason people like characters and it isn't just their powers.
God I didn’t know the dude had so much backstory. Like he literally just was a guy in the movie that got stuff for her and seemed like they were setting up some kind of romance, this is why it feels like it’s a second movie they were dead setting up some kind of romantic tension god knows why. This movie could have been so good if they just committed to telling the story really thought they were going to reference the comics and how the winter soldier was part of the training in the red room and you know just talk about the ballet that is such an intergalactic part of black widows character origin but like nah, they just made a movie so it would be like they didn’t give her her own movie. It’s amazing how must of the character growth of this character and just the most interesting parts came out of winter soldier and the small spotlight that was given to her. That movie somehow succeeded in making her a complex haunted character just trying to do right and gain some form of forgiveness more than her own 2hr movie could.

I had so much fun with my best friend watching this movie. But it did felt like a big moment for Florence instead of a big moment for ScarJo. I wish her send off would have been as amazing as Chris or Robert but hey at the very least if the movie makes good money there’s that I suppose. Still a freaking shame really.
In line with ripping off a recently released action film they also hired the same composer (Lorne Balfe) who had very similar sound beats to the point where I literally felt that Henry Cavill and his DCEU crippling mustache would pop up.
I applaud for saying you're not impressed with MCU lately. I'm not either. I liked Wandavision. I felt like Falcon and WS was a kinda meh and Loki was interesting at the end but still I wasn't completely sold on Loki's turning a new leaf. There's also seems to be a blatant formula that every MCU film has done that being used in recent series and movies including this one. Idk. I'm hoping for Multiverse of Madness to clean it all up.
I enjoyed this film, and I'll no doubt buy it on Blu-Ray (If they release it in today's world physically), but at the end of the day, I still hold to what I said about this film 3 years ago when I remember hearing that it was in development.................we already have a solid Black Widow movie, and it's called Red Sparrow.
Timing is what ruined the release of the movie. It should have been released straight after Civl War! It would have a made at least 700 million dollars.

I thought the film was meh and quite frankly disappointed. None of the action scenes were memorable. I didn’t except them to have over the top action kinda like F&F. Red Guardian was wack and was useless. Florence Pugh did a excellent job and can’t wait to see her in more MCU projects! The story wasn’t great either nor the dialogue, the cinematography looked kinda nice but at times very bland. At least it was way better than Captain Marvel.
So Taskmaster was basically the bad X-Men Origins' Deadpool, half the movie was kinda pretty much Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and Natasha was a side character in what was Yelena's origin story.

This would not contradict any established lore in my opinion as in Natasha's mind, the Red Room is gone. Though she still did not care to try and rejoin with Yelena. Whether this has something to do with what happened in the Red Room or a clause in her arrangement with Shield, I don't know.
The second half of this movie we got could have been a Black Widow 2 where Nat realizes the Red Room is still active. By separating this part into its own movie as a sequel they can better establish and build up characters rather than just building up Yelena and Alexei (depending on how you look at how they used Alexei).
But it was really too late to make my idea for a Black Widow 1 as they needed to have done it before Civil War I believe. And Black Widow 2 could have come after which makes it more properly line up with the releases.
The opening credits were the best part of the movie hands down, that should have been the movie. The red room, the Thriller, the grittyness, the dark origin story we all wanted. And as you said: it should have happened way earlier.
This is what I was hoping the movie would be and I was kinda disappointed when it wasn’t.

It’s no secret that this movie was Pugh’s introduction. They literally said as much during production because Yelena is going to be taking the mantle and will be the be the new frontrunner of the MCU and will also continue the rest of the Black Widow trilogy around her. So it’s not supposed to feel like just a Natasha story as it has to work as the first in yelenas trilogy also. But I agree that Natasha should’ve gotten her own trilogy long ago, and not just a role in a different black widows trilogy 10 years later.

the opening credits scenes was by far the best part of the movie. the song cover was haunting and worked so well with the theme of exploited girls. Florence Pugh is always a Win.

*Except that it wasn’t. I think they employed their typical representation of internal character, the light emanating an awakening. I love that Melina explained the science of it, because she never had the heart to see what truly lied before her, while Yelena (and Nat) always did and questioned the fireflies, representing whether there was any sense of family love to begin with.*
The fireflies represent the heart that she maintained despite her suffering, stemming from that one genuinely happy moment from her childhood.

Everything else aside, Pugh is a great addition to the MCU, she feels grounded in a way that most of the characters don’t, but she pulls off quippy better than anyone else!

Pretty sure this movie had an agenda. Not any social or political agenda, but just one to set up yelena and the widows outside of the red room. Natasha really did get sidelined for her own movie. They could have done so much for her but decided to spend it on setting up other things, and ultimately giving a poor send off to a character that audiences really enjoyed. Movie wasn’t bad but it was just okay. Slightly better than Thor the Dark World if that makes any sense.

The thing I really couldn't get over in this was the daughter being a little girl when Natasha (an adult) supposedly killed her, but being 41 year old Olga Kurylenko, who is 5 years older than Scarlett whilst playing Taskmaster

I really liked the Black Widow film. That being said, I left the theatre feeling cheated we didn't get a trilogy. But I suppose it doesn't matter now since after Endgame I only wanted to watch the Black Widow film and then stop watching the MCU.

I love Marvel but this movie is weaker than the rest of the Marvel movies. I really wanted a full Natasha origin story like those flashbacks we got during her Russian Childhood but instead it was soo monotone and too much talking. It was more of a get together family show rather than Natasha.
This was the Worst MCU script I’ve seen in a long time and I’m sorry it’s kinda insulting. It’s like they didn’t include quality writers or spend quality time on her because why? She’s retired? She’s female? She’s not popular? This movie was a DROP in quality where it shouldn’t have been. I’ve never been this frustrated in Marvel.

Not gonna lie, I didn't like that Dreykov's daughter was another mindless slave. At that point, you could switch her out for any other Widow (I would have even preferred that because that would mean that Natasha intentionally killed a child for no reason but, in her past, that was an acceptable price).
Imagine this though, she smashes a vial to release Taskmaster and it doesn't work because she's not mind controlled, she's just pissed and indoctrinated the same way Natasha was. One final fight gets her knocked out and arrested by Ross (or, she runs away to plot some more).
Making her mind controlled kind of erases some of the darkness from Natasha where her actions... kind of had no consequences. Who's to say Dreykov wouldn't have mind controlled his daughter once she grew up anyway? All Natasha did in the end, was slightly disfigure a girl that would end up wearing a mask for most of her formative years anyway.
Yeah that's my thoughts exactly how many times bring someone back evil after you pretty much see them die.
At least she didn't get the hulk treatment lol

I loved the fact that Ray Winstone played Dreykov, but I grew up with his Bet365 ads so I can’t unsee it
I liked Black Widow. Even though I watch a lot of movie analyses on every movie known to man, I liked it. I appreciate the small things. Though, my inner marvel comics nerd was suffocating in the inside with Taskmaster, Iron Maiden, and Yelena. I wish they just would not have called Antonia Taskmaster in all the interviews and credits. I liked that character as a new character, not as Taskmaster. Anyways, as an average movie watcher, I liked Black Widow.
I had to google Florence Pugh just to make sure that she's not russian. That's how authentic she was. The way she talks, facial expressions - so on point. Amazing performance.
Loved the movie as well. I think it's great. I see why people saying that this is Winter Soldier rip off but I disagree. Black Widow is really about family with action sequences as the side dish, when Winter Soldier was action first, friendship second.
Mad respect to Scarlett for leaving the MCU she deserves hella better!

How could it be “extremely misogynistic” when literally ever transition scene was a stupid ass shot. If you took a shot for everytime they had a girls ass in the center of the screen you would die from alcohol poisoning. All we FANS want is a good damn movie that is actually made with care. Look at how amazing the reviews were for Wonder Woman. Because guess what....it was a great movie. Huge downside to it was all the slow motion and the twist villain wasn’t really a surprise, but overall the movie was great.

I thought Rachael was the best part of this movie but I mean
God I didn’t know the dude had so much backstory. Like he literally just was a guy in the movie that got stuff for her and seemed like they were setting up some kind of romance, this is why it feels like it’s a second movie they were dead setting up some kind of romantic tension god knows why. This movie could have been so good if they just committed to telling the story really thought they were going to reference the comics and how the winter soldier was part of the training in the red room and you know just talk about the ballet that is such an intergalactic part of black widows character origin but like nah, they just made a movie so it would be like they didn’t give her her own movie.
It’s amazing how must of the character growth of this character and just the most interesting parts came out of winter soldier and the small spotlight that was given to her. That movie somehow succeeded in making her a complex haunted character just trying to do right and gain some form of forgiveness more than her own 2hr movie could.

I had so much fun with my best friend watching this movie. But it did felt like a big moment for Florence instead of a big moment for ScarJo. I wish her send off would have been as amazing as Chris or Robert but hey at the very least if the movie makes good money there’s that I suppose. Still a freaking shame really.
In line with ripping off a recently released action film they also hired the same composer (Lorne Balfe) who had very similar sound beats to the point where I literally felt that Henry Cavill and his DCEU crippling mustache would pop up.

I applaud for saying you're not impressed with MCU lately. I'm not either. I liked Wandavision. I felt like Falcon and WS was a kinda meh and Loki was interesting at the end but still I wasn't completely sold on Loki's turning a new leaf. There's also seems to be a blatant formula that every MCU film has done that being used in recent series and movies including this one. Idk. I'm hoping for Multiverse of Madness to clean it all up.

I thought the film was meh and quite frankly disappointed. None of the action scenes were memorable. I didn’t except them to have over the top action kinda like F&F. Red Guardian was wack and was useless. Florence Pugh did a excellent job and can’t wait to see her in more MCU projects! The story wasn’t great either nor the dialogue, the cinematography looked kinda nice but at times very bland. At least it was way better than Captain Marvel.

So Taskmaster was basically the bad X-Men Origins' Deadpool, half the movie was kinda pretty much Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and Natasha was a side character in what was Yelena's origin story.
