I’m all for Florence Pugh’s character, but this movie should’ve been a Raid-style action film of Black Widow and Hawkeye in Budapest. Plus flashback sequences that connect some of her origin story, and tie it into the emotional arc of the overall film. Then we could’ve gotten this one, or something like it.
I was thinking they could at least have it where Hawkeye was there part of the time and Yelena didn't get unbrainwashed until at least halfway into the movie. It would help if they developed characters rather than having them start out already knowing each other.
I know people give a lot of grief to Hawkeye for that scene where he goes off on Thor... but honestly, the more I watch it, the more it seems like a legit honest reaction a person would have in such an insane situation
I feel Black Widow could have been a really intriguing, tense companion piece to The Winter Soldier and Civil War. It could have gone to some dark places (which it tries, but doesn't completely succeed) and created some of the best character work yet in the MCU. Sadly, it just didn't have the right edge to truly excel. It was good, but could've been so much more if it just tried a little bit harder.
Of course not. They make jokes about the ledger being red and Widows not being able to have babies both of which were really serious topics in The Avengers and AoU when Natasha addressed them
Thats kind of how I feel about it, like, it was fine, but I honstly didnt think about it at all until now, like I think I would be bored out of my mind on a second watching
Yea, I felt that. This felt enough like TWS (in tone) to see the movie's potential. But, it also strayed enough away from TWS and too close to the MCU formula to still feel like just another mediocre MCU movie, though I did like it more than most of the other mediocre MCU movies.
they could have made it dark and tragic but i guess marvel doesnt want the movie to take that route since they made it for every demographic to see which made it bad. it involves brainwashing, experimentation, assassination etc. it had so much potential.
My problem is that Natasha had a superhero family (super strong dad, scientist mom, assassin sister) and yet we never have a scene where all four of them are fighting together. Come on, that was basically a chance at a live action Incredibles and they missed it!
I don't like the MCU at all but I would watch a Red Guardian movie. The guy has character and I loved every second he was in. Especially the Karl Marx tattoo on his hands :D
That invincibility of them took me out of the film a little. They survive stuff with no injuries. It's difficult not to compare to Winter Soldier, in which they show being more vulnerable to guns and crazy villains.
Apparently, the Widows have been retconned into having gained low-level regen and heightened reflexes through supersoldier experiments the Red Room conducted whilst trying to recreate the Erskine serum.
@@christianpearce3382 If not shown or mentioned in the movies -> not canon, no matter what they say after. You don't watch movies and then go online to supplement the information, especially if binge watching.
The Smells Like Teen Spirit montage in the beginning was honestly the best part of the movie and seemed like it should be an intro to a much better and darker movie than it did
That montage was the best we could get to describe the actual feel of The Red Room, since what transpires in training there cannot be shown in a Marvel movie. They CAN'T go that dark.
Just like in xmen origins, where they gave us the best part that could have been a good movie at the beginning and choose to tell a much worse story instead.
10000 x yes! The intro was the dark and messed up black widow origin film i was hoping for. for a moment i thought i should watch it properly and then rest of the movie was just generic hero film
The only thing I didn't like about this movie is it borrows a few too many beats from Winter Soldier. She fights a shadow regime with a floating fortress and her main opposition is a brainwashed super soldier with whom she has a personal connection from her past? C'mon, guys. Make her own movie, not a retread of someone else's.
Every marvel movie having a giant ship at the end with the bad guy, that needs to be destroyed was too accurate I realized 😂 Great pointing out by Honest Trailers!!!
Omg...thank you for bringing this to light. There are tons of Russian speaking actors in the US, who can be casted to do some proper Russian language or at least accent. This thing with Kurylenko seems to be not the first time either. All the "slavic" women in 007 franchise and the first time they cast an actual Slavic chick who can speak Russian she is playing a Latina. Smh. My Russian ears are tired of all the butchering. It's a very difficult language. Either leave it alone or do it justice.
Because it wasn't supposed to be an origin story. This movie takes place in the 2 year gap between civil war and infinity war. The point of this movie is to show what she did in those 2 years, how was her life. Yes I agree, it should have been different and it should have shown much more of her past but it was never an origin story.
@@lizzyvalles179 they should have released this movie before Infinity War. Would have been more interesting. Hard to get invested when you know its not making a difference
Because Scarlett Johansson is too old now to play her younger character, and CGI her face would be awful. They should have made it after Iron Man 2 when Black Widow was freshly introduced.
There does seem to be one significant aspect of the movie that was overlooked here: This movie was probably the first time that most of us have actually heard the lyrics to Smells Like Teen Spirit.
I've heard that song at least a hundred times over the years and there's at least a full verse that I never truly heard correctly before watching Black Widow.

That fact they called Dreykov “Harvey Weinstein” in this video and I watched the movie all I could think of is that he’s pretty much just Harvey Weinstein is hilarious to me
I thought we were finally going to see Natasha's *origin* story. It was really more of a side quest before she went back to dealing with the Avengers and Thanos.
See they just needed to go a little darker, a little smaller... The opening sequence was so good. It had me so hopeful, and then the rest let me down. Nat could have been more that some sad facial expressions in a mirror. Whelp, time to go read the new Black Widow again to make up for this mess.
I really thought it would be A Bourne Identity type of movie of Natasha having flashbacks of all her violent murders under Dreykov but it's just a cookie cutter Marvel movie that should have come out in 2016
im not sure they actually would've died there tho, at least not all of them. they were running inside when we last saw em, and that prison definitely looked strong enough to support itself even under a bunch of snow and rocks. Maybe they would be trapped, but I'm sure a place that big would be able to reach out or have someone notice its covered in ice.
It’s a Mission Impossible movie. Face mask, list of secret agents, helicopter stunts, going rogue from a secret spy agency, not dying without any powers to save you. That’s literally everything that happens on every MI movie.
Iron Man 2: A two hour prequel for avengers. Avengers 2: A two hour prequel for phase 3. Guardians 2: A two hour prequel for all of marvel cosmos coming next. Spider-Man 2: A two hour sequel for sobbing over iron man's death. Shang-Chi: A two hour sorry for their Mandarin mess up. I mean why is this suddenly a suprise now? Aren't we watching this pattern for a decade now?

Imagine if they made a spy-action movie like Casino Royale or Bourne Identity showing the mass kidnapping and psychological + physical torment they all went through ending with the moment she decided to get out of the organization with the big Budapest fight. Instead we get another quip filled CG blob with another floating fortress of doom and a 2.0 version of Deadpool from Wolverine Origins where the bad guy was defeated because she slammed her face on a desk.
@@wheniwasaweelad902 This is what I thought they'd do. And budapest would have sort of been a code and we'd slowly get trickles of information throughout it. But instead they just threw so much plot at us in the opening credits scene and basically showed the taskmaster and who she was through them literally saying it out loud. Like, why not let the viewers have to guess who this is and why is she mimicking their powers yet still loses almost every fight against them. Definitely a much better movie was possible with just a bit less on the nose. Which I've noticed has plagued Marvel since Winter Soldier. Even Endgame had it. Just people standing or sitting around discussing what is happening. The old show not tell in storytelling is kinda lost on Disney now.
@@TheSpeediestRogue I liked the movie but even still I felt that it seemed like a huge missed opportunity. i remember the the fan theories months ago (maybe even years ago?) about how the Black Widow could go down: glimpses of her sordid assassin past up until her run in with Clint and her eventual defection to SHIELD. lots of talk of a cameo appearance by the Winter Soldier, alluding to the conversation she had with Steve about the time TWS shot her while on detail. So many ways they couldve given us actual glimpses into her "Red Ledger", rather than needlessly showing us what she was up to after Civil War (simply so that they could introduce her replacement). Anyway, still an enjoyable movie, but somewhat of a disservice to the character.

Yeah, bit weird. Breaking your nose does stop you from smelling but that's more to do with the 'smells' not reaching the olfactory cleft where the receptor cells are, due to the break.
That’s the point. An ordinary fan can write a better movie than Disney could ever do. But they gave us this garbage.
I was thinking they could at least have it where Hawkeye was there part of the time and Yelena didn't get unbrainwashed until at least halfway into the movie. It would help if they developed characters rather than having them start out already knowing each other.

Same. Also his "I don't have time to babysit" speech to Wanda in age of ultron was hands down the best speech in the entire mcu.
@Zmir Moore the opening credits slapped then the rest of it was a let down
they could have made it dark and tragic but i guess marvel doesnt want the movie to take that route since they made it for every demographic to see which made it bad. it involves brainwashing, experimentation, assassination etc. it had so much potential.

@@wheniwasaweelad902 This is what I thought they'd do. And budapest would have sort of been a code and we'd slowly get trickles of information throughout it. So many ways they couldve given us actual glimpses into her "Red Ledger", rather than needlessly showing us what she was up to after Civil War (simply so that they could introduce her replacement).
