  • You guys have been asking for a mullet catch clean cook, well here it is! I kind of just pieced this video together from a bunch of days and had some drone footage of the mullet run I never used from last year! Right now the 2020 Florida Mullet Run is underway and millions of baitfish are migrating down the coast with hungry tarpon, jacks and snook behind them!

    Tip for cooking bok choy, separate the stem and the leaf. The leaf cooks much faster than the stem. So they end up wilted by the time the stems are done. Throw the stems in with the ginger and garlic, then throw the leaves in near the end and just toss around for about a minute.

    I grew up in Niceville. Florida, where every year, there is a Mullet Festival. I've been eating mullet for 40 plus years. When cook correctly, they are extremely tasty fish.

    Mullet fish have always been a good fish to eat, they have been in the local fish markets here in North Carolina for decades, how does anyone who fishes as much as Landshark does could miss that known fact

    Up here in Pensacola we fry them! Oh and don't throw away the backbone roll it in cornmeal and everglades original drop it in some hot peanut oil, best part of the fish.

    You can actually prepare this fish by deep frying it. The ingredients contain yellow corn meal,old bay, onion powder, garlic powder, and smoked paprika. Also if you catch the ones with the egg roll in them you can also eat them as well the yellow ones and the white ones. Yellow being female, white being males. You can use Tabasco sauce for spicy flavor.

      Also add salt to taste along with black pepper. You can deep fry them in vegetable oil. The ingredients for the fish roe(roll) the mullet egg sacks.

    some will argue that a mullet in not a fish but a fowl because it has a gizzard which is edible, there is a definite taste difference between mullet that lives or has been in river canal or bayou type water verse mullet living in sandy bottom areas like running the coast lines or open water ares

    Was given some mullet a couple of days ago and your video helped me in the fillet & skinning, and cooking process. Many thanks for that. One thing I noticed was that the blood line was bigger in my fish, especially one that was particularly dark. Is that good, bad or unimportant? Does it affect the flavour or is it just a cosmetic difference?

    • @larrypresnall5360
      @larrypresnall5360 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Remove the blood line. You’ll be glad you did! We never soak mullet (or any fish) in milk to try and remove, “fishy” taste. That’s in the blood line, so take it out, cook, and serve!

    • @ALCIDESFARIAS
      @ALCIDESFARIAS 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. I was about to say that.
      Mullets live in inner waters: rivers and lagoons and they eat algae. That makes their meat to have a not so good taste.
      When they begin their run is due to their reproduction time. They go to the salty water get cleaned up. That makes them taste great.
      So, you have to get them in the ocean, preferably 200 miles from where they started their run.

    They have gizzards too. A few people found a loophole in the commercial fishing laws in Florida, and were able to use monofilament gill nets for a little bit after they banned them to fish for mullet because they had gizzards. 😆 They lost their case in a federal court but they are still fighting.

I got 2 bites in and tossed it. Never again. The other 2 and scraps of tbe first was pro blacktip bait though. Only use i can imagine for a mullet after my first taste.

    This stupid mentality of bait fish only and can’t be eating is ridiculous and it’s only in the US , in Europe and Africa and rest of the world they eat them and they are great ,
    Had them last night for dinner , cumin , grounded red pepper , olive oil and natural wood fire , taste 100 times better than American fast food I tell you lol 😂 and it’s cheaper too I paid $20 for a whole bucket don’t need to fillet it just cut the head off and make little cuts on the skin for the spices to get in little garlic (fresh garlic not powder ) also is a plus simple and delicious with a salad , some bread and hot sauce
    Keep it simple don’t forget to cut a lemon 🍋 and squize it on the fish after it’s grilled .. let me know

    I was far from the first comment calling be. I write under a pen name reviewing youtube videos, and I already unsubscribed from his channel. He needs to be a man and apologize for insulting us. My hopes are that others follow suit and do not believe his crap. He lost every ounce of respect I had, which was rather large. The problem is that his face looked like he rolled us.

    I've been commercial mall at fishing for 30 years maybe a little bit more and then probably been eating all at longer than that it tastes fantastic deep fried with some Cajun breading or whatever season you like with the skin I like it with the skin it's something about the skin it gives it a better flavor but you can have it without the skin and it's just as good mullet is fantastic believe me you'll love it and another thing when you clean your wallet keep the gizzards mullet gizzards deep fried are excellent you'll love them

    scale them, debone them, cut them in chunks, and deep fry them in 50/50 flour and cornmeal. Been eating them that way for over 35 years on the west coast of FL.

    Nothing white meat about it! Mullet taste like fertilizer, no matter how you cook it..You’re just making a thick cover up sauce!😂😂

    A while back when I used to live in Florida on the Gulf Coast near Destin I never knew what mullet was until my mother told me about it well she told me about the Mullet Festival they have down there and I replied to her saying what is that a bunch of hillbillies with mullets that get together!?. LOL then a few friends of mine showed me how to use a cast net and from there on out I'd catch schools of mullet out there morning and evening right as the sun is starting to go down. I lived in Niceville that's a great area to go mullet fishing well with a cast net or anything at that matter

    Gut them. Scale them. Cut the heads off. Bread and fry. Delish.
    Also their toe deep fried is great too. Just don’t eat too much because it’ll give you the shits!
