    Tip for cooking bok choy, separate the stem and the leaf. The leaf cooks much faster than the stem. So they end up wilted by the time the stems are done. Throw the stems in with the ginger and garlic, then throw the leaves in near the end and just toss around for about a minute.

    Mullet eggs(roe) are the best. Lightly flour with salt and pepper and pan fry. It’s amazing

    Trash cooks will always say something is a trash fish because they don’t know how to cook it. Mullet has been eaten for thousands of years I’m glad you showed a fantastic way to cook it!

    Mullet is delicious! I didn't know what I was missing out on. This past summer we got skunked and happened to roll up on some horrse mullet on our way back to the boat ramp. Caught maybe a couple dozen and did the same. Salt pepper and Cayenne pan fried they are delicious. By far one of the best "trash/bait" fish I've ever eaten.

    Aloha Viktor, You probably already know what I'm going to say, but here in Hawai'i Mullet are considered a delicacy. We always eat then whole scaled and cleaned. and we usually steam them or wrap them in the leaf of the Ti (Cordyline fruticosa) plant and bake them. If you can find them at a local nursery you should get some and plant them around your home. There large leaf is great for wrapping and cooking things in as well as making great disposable plates. Hawaiians used to the the large sugar rich root ball of this plant, and boil it down, let it ferment, then distill into a potent hard liquor called "Okolehao (oh-koh-leh-ha-o). For steaming the mullet can be placed in a steamer with sliced onions, and shiitake mushrooms, and before serving put a handful of chopped green onions and cilantro on top, then pour some hot peanut oil on top right before serving for great presentation, and flavor. Aloha a hui hou.

    Filipino's eat them all the time. They are especially good smoked! Another is just butterfly smaller mullet and pan fry it. Prepare a vinegar, garlic and salt dip with a few hot thai chillies. Eat the whole thing. Crunch like pork rinds. Yumm

    You will find that mullet caught over sandy bottom taste much better than muddy bottom fish.

    • @ALCIDESFARIAS
      @ALCIDESFARIAS 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. I was about to say that.
      Mullets live in inner waters: rivers and lagoons and they eat algae. That makes their meat to have a not so good taste.
      When they begin their run is due to their reproduction time. They go to the salty water get cleaned up. That makes them taste great.
      So, you have to get them in the ocean, preferably 200 miles from where they started their run.

    Back here in North Carolina, I was taught by my grandma to charcoal em. Take a charcoal grill, and just grill em butterflied. Keep the scales on, and you pick the meat out from the bones - there’s a lot of bones in em. Pinfish/pigfish the same way - except just head gut scale and grill Over a open flame. Sweetest meat around..

    You can actually prepare this fish by deep frying it. The ingredients contain yellow corn meal,old bay, onion powder, garlic powder, and smoked paprika. Also if you catch the ones with the egg roll in them you can also eat them as well the yellow ones and the white ones. Yellow being female, white being males. You can use Tabasco sauce for spicy flavor.

    • @alanmonroe2501
      @alanmonroe2501 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Also add salt to taste along with black pepper. You can deep fry them in vegetable oil. The ingredients for the fish roe(roll) the mullet egg sacks.

    Last time i was in Florida a got 3 all 15" plus mullet in the cast net... I decided to fillet 1.. They stank... Cooked with butter, garlic, some old bay, salt and pepper.. I got 2 bites in and tossed it. Never again. The other 2 and scraps of tbe first was pro blacktip bait though. Only use i can imagine for a mullet after my first taste.

    Bro fried mullet is one of my favorite fish to eat try it with just some salt and pepper lightly dusted with either flour or cornmeal deep fried. All the old school people were raised on mullet so was I all the restaurants around my area in central Brevard county used to serve mullet some still do. Another good way is to butterfly and scale it put old Bay seasoning lightly flour and deep fry with the bones in the skin on.

    We eat them all the time up here in NC. They are definitely way better in the cleaner saltier water closer to the inlets, the ones you catch up the rivers and creeks tend to taste like the mud they are filtering and are hardly edible, but if you go out in the sounds and get them where theres good sandy bottom and clean salty water they are hard to beat in my honest opinion.

    A while back when I used to live in Florida on the Gulf Coast near Destin I never knew what mullet was until my mother told me about it well she told me about the Mullet Festival they have down there and I replied to her saying what is that a bunch of hillbillies with mullets that get together!?. LOL then a few friends of mine showed me how to use a cast net and from there on out I'd catch schools of mullet out there morning and evening right as the sun is starting to go down. I lived in Niceville that's a great area to go mullet fishing well with a cast net or anything at that matter

    some will argue that a mullet in not a fish but a fowl because it has a gizzard which is edible, there is a definite taste difference between mullet that lives or has been in river canal or bayou type water verse mullet living in sandy bottom areas like running the coast lines or open water ares
