What an awesome video! Smoked mullet, is without question, one of Florida's best kept secrets and one of the finest delicacies in the world of seafood that one can engage in.🤩🤩
My great great grandparents were settlers of Cortez Florida, they were commercial mullet fisherman. Not allot of people realize the impact mullet fishing had in early Florida heritage. Keep up the awesome vids man!
My dad used to take my brother and I fishing on miss Cortez when we was teenagers and I'm 57 years old now and living in north Florida and I'm going mullet fishing with the net this week God willing. I like Cortez it's nice down there and i caught a lot of big black mullet in Sarasota Bay. Good times and good memories.take care.

Would love to meet you and pick your brain. Keep it up my cracker!!!
Was born and raised in Fla. The last time I was back, my first stop was Ted Peter's smokehouse, for smoked mullet, and the potato salad, and the smoked mullet spread. I've eaten sooooo many mullet. Thanks for the great content, and helping me remember.

split a jalapeno pepper in half, fill with mullet dip, wrap with a strip of bacon, pin it with a toothpick and grill. I take a couple of dozen to gathering, all gone in 10 minutes. Great job keep videos coming
As kids we'd bring home button wood, or red mangrove and smoke mullet, macks, and jacks. Just kosher salt brine and very coarse fresh black pepper. lite coating of veggie oil. Great show thanks for bringing back my olden days memories 1960's Space Coast Florida.
Lived in Jacksonville Florida for 20 years fish in St Augustine hundreds of times love the area it's a good place to live great video and I like that sealer that was a heck of a Christmas gift.
Nice technique! I like the idea of adding the smoker tube since pellet smokers don't usually form a constant smoke; whereas the tube fills in during lapses in pellet grill smoke cycles.
Just a heads up for when you grill . The heat will melt and disfigure that vinyl siding if you are not careful. I would pull the grill I'm using out and away from the wall. As a Handyman I've had to replace siding for this very reason , and it's not fun or easy .. Enjoy your videos especially the crabbing videos that bring back childhood memories of weekends on the Chesapeake Bay . So glad to see this video! The mullet fishery was also important here in North Carolina. We smoked and ate a lot when I was a kid. Now days u don’t see it so much. Roe was also smoked or fried. Great video bro!
Thanks for vedio, I was born and raised in Florida. We lived off of mullet. We called them chicken of the sea. We ate the roe and gizzard and livers too..

I loved when the mullet run was. Always had my cast net while shark fishing on the beach. I loved to see that big black cloud coming to me. One cast all I needed. Never smoked but love to grill with butter and seasoning rapped in aluminum foil. Great eating fish.
4th generation Florida Cracker, growing up didn't know we were poor, mullet was a staple, fried & smoked. Also loved the yellow roe fried, keep up the good work!
I grew up catching mullet and brims ,blue gills and catfish 😎 Only difference between me and Tug is the Fam fried or boiled the fish. With a side of mashed potatoes, yellow white, or brown rice, grits, fried potatoes of any shape preferably steak cut potatoes. The fish was seasoned with fresh garlic, paprika, salt or sea salt, and being from Florida we used limes not lemons or both. If you don’t have lime or lemon use vinegar 👍 and don’t forget the flour and corn meal 😎
G'day mate love the video it was fantastic. I live in Perth Western Australia and people in Australia don't eat mullet but I love it. Hey buddy I like what you’ve done with the mullet here. In South Africa we make a similar method where we soak mullet in a heavy salt brine for 3 days and then hang dry. It is also a delicacy and used in cooking. Mainly eat it straight of the drying rack. It’s called Bokkoms. Would be awesome to see you make a video making it. 😁
I will have to try this for sure, it looked amazing. I have always wanted to try to eat mullet because the meat looks so good when I cut chunks to surf fish. Keep making videos and I will keep watching, as you can tell I am even watching the older ones too. God bless and good life. When I bought my new sealer I decided to use my old one for all the bait, crab bait, surf fishing, smaller shrimp it works just enough for that.

That`s what burns me up I live in the middle of Florida Disabled, on SSI. I can`t stay in the Sun too long because of my Medication I`m on. It`s over 100 miles one way to any Saltwater West or East. Freshwater just doesn`t have that good of a Fish selection. Oh, by the way I did work most of my life before getting a Heart Condition and I`m 65 yrs. old. Enjoyed it Tug
I'm in the same boat and 65, but I can handle the sun and love it! I use to throw a 9' cast net but I doubt I could now. I grew up in Marathon so it is so unnatural to be be away from salt water. I live near Gainesville now, maybe I can talk BlueGabe into dropping me off some fresh fresh fish & I certainly would not turn down a lobster or two as he does travel through my area every now & then, Gabe....hint, hint.
Love the smoke tube! I cold smoke everything with that. I brine and cold smoke my fish. The wife will freeze them and then quick fry them when we want to eat them. Bluefish is so good smoked.
My favorite way to make mullet is to butterfly them open, brine in salt water over night, take out and let dry for like an hour than dip the whole thing in crystal hotsauce and season with publix brand cajun season. Smoke over orange wood for a few hours and its ready.
First time I ever ate smoked fish was smoked mullet in Sarasota, Florida in the 1950s. There was a commercial fisherman on Siesta Key where we bought it when visiting my grandmother. We were surprised that most Florida people considered mullet a trash fish... not to eat, but to use as bait or crab bait. Now I live in Hawaii and mullet are a delicacy... usually steamed and then pour hot peanut oil over it. I usually take mine to the local Chinese Resturant and have them prepare it. Mullet fishing is highly regulated with size and bag limits and closed seasons. No one smokes mullet in Hawaii. LOL.
I've got to try that. I'm moving to Milton FL from Middle Tennessee soon, so the opportunities to try new things are many. Funny, I pulled up maps to see where St. Augustine FL is and one of the few landmarks from high in the sky is Publix.
Mannnnn, that's good eatin, but I can't believe you threw the backbones & roe away. We love those parts.of the mullet & mullets also have a gizzard in their throats. We eat those too. I know you use the heads for your crab trap, but we also make what is called mullet head stew either with rice or grits, with bellpeppers & onions in it. So good it'll make you slap a preacher. 😂 Good video tho. I enjoyed it. Take care & happy new year ! Reggy, from Tallahassee, FL

I’ll run ya some fish sometime!
Merry Christmas & Happy New Year Tug & Family,,, 😎😎😎
Happy New Year!
Great video! Thanks, man! Happy new year
Happy New Year!
BlueGabe turned me on to this channel months ago, I still subscribe to his channel, but I like your channel more.
Well thanks!
Love the smoke tube! I cold smoke everything with that. I brine and cold smoke my fish. The wife will freeze them and then quick fry them when we want to eat them. Bluefish is so good smoked.
Dam that sounds amazing!
Cracker vacuum sealer. Ziplock and a straw. Gets it done lol 👍
Love the channel man! Glad I found it
Thank you!
Tug, that's just how we do our Whitefish up here in the Great Lakes. Try it with a little yellow mustard, or horseradish and dill pickles. Nice vid~
I’ve had smoked white fish. My family has a place up near Alden Michigan
As always kick ass video Ian!!
Thank you sir
My favorite way to make mullet is to butterfly
them open, brine in salt water over night, take out and let dry for like an hour than dip the whole thing in crystal hotsauce and season with publix brand cajun season. Smoke over orange wood for a few hours and its ready.
Sounds amazing
Born and raised down here. Just caught about 30 nice mullet on pine island. Getting ready to smoke em now.
Stand by I have another mullet video in the works!
LOL.
That’s awesome! I need to come visit!
I've got to try that. I'm moving to Milton FL from Middle Tennessee soon, so the opportunities to try new things are many. Funny, I pulled up maps to see where St. Augustine FL is and one of the few landmarks from high in the sky is Publix.
Publix is the best!
Mannnnn, that's good eatin, but I
can't believe you threw the backbones & roe away. We love those parts.of the mullet & mullets also have a gizzard in their throats. We eat those too. I know you use the heads for your crab trap, but we also make what is called mullet head stew either with rice or grits, with bellpeppers & onions in it.
So good it'll make you slap a preacher.
😂
Good video tho. I enjoyed it. Take care & happy new year !
Reggy, from Tallahassee, FL
Thanks man I’m about to go look for some roe mullet
