1st DMFD vid I've watched since my father passed last April. We would usually watch these videos together. Great content as always. I just miss my old man's comments showing how amazed he is whenever there is a huge catch.
I’m sorry to hear about your father.
That’s a beautiful memory you have of him and I’m sure you have plenty more. 🙂
Sorry for your loss. My dad passed last year as well. Hold on to those memories. He’ll live on through them forever.
Sorry for your loss.
Man I’m so sorry to hear you lost your dad! I’m sure he was super proud of you!!! 🙏🙏🙏
I'm sorry you lost your dad. It sounds like you were blessed to have had a good one that you made a lot of good memories with.
You not only teach us about fishing or hunting but you teach us about life.. From good father to a good husband you teach us all... If I ever make to the states you are THE person I want to meet.. Learned alot from you
Everything about this trip is so awesome, the crystal clear weather, the beautiful location, and the fish of a lifetime! Thanks for doing what you do and letting us join you on the adventure!
I would wager a large amount that Rob wanted one of his Hooker electric reels about this time - 07:50. He is exhausted and commented on the fish being heavy.
The precision with which that man cut the Halibut was INSANE. The bone imprints on the fillet are crazy, that is expert level muscle control!
hahaha... he is unproffessionell... first catch a fish and then after he draws him up he is searching for the tools to kill the fish and pull it out... how crazy.....
Unprofessional or not you still watched lol
For those of you who may be inexperienced at fishing Robert gave a great display of how you reel down on a fish without putting slack in the line or taking the bend out of the rod. Super job as always DeerMeat, halibut nuggets for days. What a thrill. My uncle was station in Kodiak with the Coast Guard during the middle 70s. They would catch those beasts on the reg and would shoot them boat side to get em in the boat, hey it was the70s, so shooting was always on the table. 🤣
Its not uncommon still to bring a bang stick or some smaller caliber firearm to deal with these guys!
Thanks a ton Me. BILL!!! Any time I’m fishing with somebody, I’ll try to teach them to “reel the bend into the rod”
Yup. I earned a spot on a commercial 35 foot mahogany hull boat by volunteering to help the skipper do repairs through the winter. At fourteen years old I longlined halibut out of Homer all summer. We had a M1 carbine for the big ones. Such an adventure! c1972.
It doesn't matter what a fisherman's skill set is, we all learn something from a Robert!!!!
Get your own channel.
Robert I will sometimes fast forward on some other channels to see the fish, but never do that when I’m watching you. You’re so genuine and your love of your family and what you do is inspiring. God bless.
I just have to say it, Robert you are one of the finest individuals I have seen in my time. You are a great father and husband. However you have always stayed true to your fans. Many blessings to your and your wonderful family!
Been dealing with major depression. 1st video I've watched of dmfd in almost two years.
If you have never caught a Halibut it's like pulling up a soaked matress from the bottom. It's a LOT of work! Good job Robert! What a memory you created!
Gotta keep that nose UP!!
Then it see’s the boat, and go’s right back down. Good times.
How much does it weigh???
A soaked mattress that has the strength to pull a canoe underwater
I love dad's sayings.:) Happy fathers day. What is your dad's favorite saying? Mine was: "Treat the people the best you can the first time, the second time treat them the way they treat you".
I don’t know a lick about hunting or fishing but I’ve been watching your videos for a couple months and love them all. Great family, great vibes
My biggest halibut is 205 pounds, caught numerous 100 pounders. I’ve been going with my buddy’s to Petersburg Alaska for 23 years and still loving it!!
That dude cleaning the fish was INCREDIBLE
Chance Miller is a machine!
that was a reckless he just went for speed. He popped some of the bile around the area. No thanks I wouldn't touch that fish with a 10-foot pole after he cleaned it.
That was a horrible cleaning of the fish!!!
Wtf
12th blog of “The Big Roll” I don’t catch fish the way you do I only watch my dad catching them, maybe that’s why I love fishing. I only catch yabbies in my dam. I enjoy so much your adventure DMFD. Your the best. Lady from Down Under
Woohoo!!! My husband and I are congratulating you Robert on your BIG catch!! If you have any fish left over don’t forget about us😁
i was salivating when you started to wrap the Halibut in Bacon. Nice Video as always Robert. Congrats on your PB. Fish of a lifetime!
Seeing you catch that Halibut and then getting it processed, made me drool! Bacon wrapped Halibut looks delicious. Have Safe Travels Arrington Family!
This land-locked native Texan just got home from a 9-day Norwegian cruise to Alaska, from Seattle to the Hubbard Glacier and back. Words CAN NOT express how beautiful Alaska is -- it's absolutely breathtaking. If you he never visited this incredible state, plan your trip NOW!!!
when Rob says "that right there, is a cleaned halibut". We filipinos would say "that right there, is tinuwa".
Hi friend. Thanks for doing what you do and letting us join you on the adventure!
Rob this is easily one of the best videos you’ve produced. Great production and editing. But what we saw you do in this video… it’s why we watch. Adventure coming together to produce magic. God Bless and thank you for what you do for so many!
Was the audio out of sync for you ? I’ve noticed it on a few of his videos lately . Not sure if it’s my buffering of my internet or not
After fishing for two days in Alaska as a total amature, always talking about catching a halibut, I had no idea what they even looked like, haha! I'm glad to see that someone who knows what they were doing was able to catch one!
By far the best TH-cam channel for our kind of people. Of course bluegabe as well!! Keep up the good work guys y’all are living the life 👍 👍
Isn’t it great when a plan comes together? Salmon head, rental boat, monster halibut, perfect weather, beautiful scenery, tasty meal and making new friends…
Those big head shakes are a clear indicator that you have a small door on the way up!
I was thinking that, but I’ve got very little experience with it so I wasn’t sure…
The cheeks on those yelloweye are fantastic. Also the rock fish down there are great. But the halibut in Alaska is 2nd to none!
I only watch this channel every videos without missing because it’s like a family on TH-cam ❤️ Mr Rob you are amazing
indeed, maybe we all need to start calling him Uncle Rob
Only DeerMeat would drive to Alaska rent a boat somewhere and catch a monster halibut LOL man I love this guy what an inspiration. TGBTG
You can’t really drive to Alaska, it’s more a fly in situation.
@@zacharyduncan6118 what...yes you can drive to Alaska. You can either drive through Canada (which is no problem) or you can drive to Seattle and drive onto a ferry and take it up to any stop in Alaska you'd like a long the way.
Robert, I’ve got to admit that flounder is bigger than the ones we get out of the Gulf of Mexico in Pensacola. Great Video.
And so the fishing entertainment in Alaska begins Let’s go!!! Epic video Rob drove miles to keep us entertained. Are you not entertained??
Is this not why you are here… (you’ve gotta say that in your toughest gladiator voice)
@@deermeatfordinner 😭😭😭😭 thanks for the great videos God bless Robert
Are you not entertained!!!
😂😂😂
Epic catch. I’ve never seen Rob so nervous trying to land a fish. Love it
My favorite group of TH-camrs the Arringtons Thanks Rob and blue gabe
One of the most amazing fishing videos I’ve seen. Rental boat, unprepared, rigging a harpoon as it’s in the line…. Crazy. Congrats bro!
On A RENTAL BOAT!!!!...Thats what dreams are made of right there...UNBELIEVABLE !! Congrats Robert!!
Thank you bro!
137 lbs such a magical number and moment.
Chefs tip. I use thin bacon that’s been rendered with water before I wrap. That way the halibut won’t over cook before the bacon crisps.
The SnS Grill is no joke. I have had one for a year and love it. Best, most versatile kettle grill ever. Great choice Rob.
That’s no joke!!!
This video is bittersweet. My son used to work at JDock and was dating miss Kristan. She even lived with us for a couple of summers. Though it didn’t work out between my son and her, I’m so glad to see her and JDock doing well.
Rob on a friggin rental, in Alaska.?! Catches a bunch of a life time fish🐟.?.?!! Savage!.!.!
That’s kinda what I was thinking as he came over the rail!!!
Crazy
OOOOOOOOWWWWEEEEEEEE!! I somehow felt your excitement when you noticed that you just caught the fish you were dreaming to catch. Heck yeah Sir!!! Congrats!!!
It’s one of my top 2 fish of all time!!
I was praying you would catch a 100 pound Halibut!!!! God is good!! Great video
Wow, that my friend was awesome. I’ve been watching you since condo days and no children. Watching you rent a boat instead of paying a charter guy that would definitely put you on fish was a great inspiration for others to do the same. I’m in Sarasota Fl. and have a 18 foot Jon boat and 4 beautiful children and we have a blast going out in the boat. I love showing them all the great things as I did growing up here. Making wonderful memories. Love ya man
Wow! What an awesome monster of a fish! I have to say, I was amazed that you, a former charter boat Captain & avid fisherman would not have gotten your gaff & harpoon ready before you put bait in the water. Another excellent video. As always, thanks for allowing us to share in your big adventure. TGBTG!
I was more focused on getting to the spot and getting started… it’s pretty sketchy taking a little rental boat 30 miles into the gulf of Alaska. I was paying ultra close attention to the motor function and boat…. Luckily, due to darting countless alligators, I’ve become halfway decent at getting things out together quickly. Once I saw it was a big one, I loosened the drag so it could start going back down slowly until I got ready… it all worked out and I’m thankful for that!
Like the pro that you are. Sure enjoyed this one.😊
@@deermeatfordinner your amazing
I’m so jealous of this guy, I’ve been a North Atlantic commercial fisherman since the early 70’s , an accomplished chef, a carpenter , a bartender and all around people/seafood/maritime lover now working in a seafood shop in St. Augustine, Florida and just can’t imagine being able to do these adventures. And I love the relationship and he has with his little girl, she so cute and smart, not to mention one hell of a fishergirl.
C’mon down to St. Augustine and we’ll go catch some Mahi, Yellowfin and Swordfish together, as I haven’t done it yet but know this skipper could put us on some fish 🎣
God bless you Capt!
That’s an awesome fish! And in a skiff…makes it all that much better
We were so stoked!!!
I don’t know why but this video feels like one of your older videos. Amazing narrative, random surprises, stunning landscape, wonderful people. Video Ive enjoyed the most for a long time. Keep it up Robert!🔥
Nothing better to eat than fresh Alaskan caught halibut. Great catch, Rob. Let's go Brandon!
I agree!!!
@@deermeatfordinner - The halibut part, or the let's go Brandon part? Or both? HAHA! I think I know the answer but you don't have to reply, buddy!
I'm not religious, but watching you and your family setting such a good example for Christians is inspiring. I wish everyone was so open minded and thoughtful. Plus it's so fun watching the hunt and cook. Best wishes to you and your family from Skyler in Kentucky. ❤️
What a great life to be alive..enjoy guyss..
Caught a 95lb Halibut in Seward back in 1978. Also caught Ling Cod, Red Snapper and a ton of Silver Salmon!! Seward is definitely the place to fish in Alaska!!
Save some for guga ! Im sure he can make something magical with it
I honestly don't know what I liked most. The catching of the fish, or the cleaning? Both were perfect.
Only problem with your Vids Robert, is that I get super hungry every time. Beautiful place for sure. Now time for me to EAT the fish I caught the other day. God Bless Brother.
I like the fact that you are always grateful that you’re able to do what you do and share it with others you’ve never taken that for granted that I’ve ever seen or heard.
I'm watching from Loxahatchee, thanks for taking us along on this epic trip! The scenery is beautiful!
When we were kids and planned a fishing/ crabbing trip it was usually an all day thing so the night before my mom rest her soul would fry up a whole mess of chicken for us to snack on those are the memories I cherish. Love you guys and how you are with your family.
I don’t like two things about this video #1 I wish you brought more salmon heads #2 I wish I was there with you lol. Awesome video and that is one amazing fish. I love your channel. You are awesome.
Alaskan Halibut is hands down my favorite fish to eat. Cast iron pan, olive oil, butter, just a bit of salt, pepper, and granulated garlic. After it's done lemon juice..........nothing better.
Love what you do. Not all of us have the possibilities to do what you do. With these videos we get a taste of it. Keep up the good work. With love from Sweden. 👍😊
Thank you for inviting us to come and visit with you and your family on this trip to see the beautiful Alaska 😊 ❤️
Rob amazing fish brother. When I was younger myself and 2 of my cousins pulled in a halibut that size over in Norway in a Norwegian rowboat. How we did it without flipping the boat God only knows. And we were not using rod and reel. We were doing traditional Norwegian drop line handline fishing. 3 teenagers and muscles. We got lucky and we caught it right outside of the harbor of the small fishing village where my family is from. Ongrats on your PB brother. You can get a lot of the same fish in them same cold waters in both Alaska and Northern Norway where my family is from. Fishing was our hustle when I was there and we had a fish processing plant right on the dock in the village. So by the end of the season it paid for my trip over and my trip over the following Year. If I wasn't working on families fishing boats. Me and my cousins were out there in a rowboat. Lol I wish I was in the shape I was in back then lol. But once again great video. Only wish I was there and in better shape than I am now after surgery. Stay safe safe travels and God bless you Sarah the girls and your crew brother. I'm on a long road of healing right now and I know that it's gonna be a ruff road. But I'll get there one day at a time.
Thank you for the story! I can only imagine you boys out there wrestling with that monster!!! Praying for a full and quick recovery for you!!!🙏🙏🙏
That's right, I forgot that in my story of longlineing out of Homer Alaska. We would make 4 or 5 sets, and I would toss out a handline, using herring, bacon and tinfoil. No, I'm not kidding. Caught my biggest barn door doing that. About 145 pounds.
We were getting $1.00 per pound in 1972. I was 14 years old and the fish weighed more than me. It was actually a lot easier to bring up than with a rod and reel. Our step mom caught the biggest of all of us. 242 pounds, out of Kodiak, in the 80s.
I want to say I'm a young girl who's watched you on and off for the past yr and finally tried hunting. Got my first black bear last week. Your videos help me know how to field dress and carve it out. Thank you!
Holy.moly a mullet 17:25
Love Halibut. Did not catch it. But brought back 30 pounds of it back to Florida. Salmon too! I also watch this channel with my father. That is why we are not still in Alaska. Because we had to get back to him and keep watching you to make my dad happy and still are watch you guy’s together. He is terminal I’ll with cancer. Watch Bluegabe too!
What gorgeous land! 😍You are so blessed, Robert. Thanks for sharing. Fish looked delicious!
I don't know little to nothing about outdoor activities but I love watching your videos, you can see the passion you have for the outdoors, looks so much fun especially with a group of friends
watch you all the time
makes my day.good for the soul.
I had a friend that was originally from Ak. He would go back home once a year and he gave me some halibut. That fish is very good tasting. Nice job Rob. You’re living the dream.
Dude now that’s a Barn Door!!!
all men die. few ever really live.
while we are out here powering the industry the society depends on you're there enjoying filming your videos.
what if we all become just like what you are doing. will the society sustain its basic needs?
Tell me now that only few like you ever really live.
Halibut is my favorite fish and that's what you cooked i'd call "fish in the blanket",great job Rob.
Glad you had help landing that beast, Rob!!! 🤣 And on a rental!!!! Outstanding catch, congrats!
I love to watch your videos you and your family are awesome. Bluegabe and Kelly also. My husband is in endstage renal failure eight years now and even though we wait on a kidney I don’t know if one will come in time. Your videos help keep him positive and give us something to do together. We loved this one. He was stationed in Alaska when he was in the service. The scenes were fantastic.
Wow! I’m so sorry to hear of this!!! Our prayers are with y’all that a great kidney comes in time and he has a full and quick recovery!!!
"ARE YOU FREAKIN KIDDING ME???". "ON A RENTAL BOAT"!!!!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. Rooobbbb my dog getting it done!!!! Brother what a fish. Picked a random spot and boom. Just goes to show... TGBTG 🙏🤘🤘💪💪🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
I know exactly how this gentleman felt. My son and I rented a little skiff in Yakut-at Alaska just to kill time in the bay. We ventured out in the calm ocean a little way and my pole went crazy and hour later reeled in a 100 pounder. We have been talking about this moment ever since. I can't imagine having more fun ever since. My son 54 muscled it in the boat after sedating it with a 22 long.
Holy cow!!! Congrats brother, what a beautiful and awesome experience. Definitely on my bucket list! You are a legend man.
I used to live in Seward and worked with Penny Miller who started it all. It was great to see all of the familiar places and the great fishing!
What a fish!! It’s my dream to fish up in Alaska. I’ll make it up there one day!
Im glad u made it up here buddy, Much appreciation for everything you have done. Such a magical experience, glad you have been apart of it.
Absolutely wild fish rob. Congrats! Goal accomplished. This was like a trip down memory lane, I went to Alaska with my dad almost 15 years ago and we fished out of Millers landing. It was awesome!! Need to get back. P
Took the boat down to Jupiter for a few days fishing the stream, I live in Brunswick Ga so it was a long drive, just made it home and stumbled on your video, nice halibut I lived in Alaska for 7 years, such a beautiful place. Definitely a bucket list to go back and let my wife catch a halibut. She caught her first Bonita day before yesterday and was emotional hahaha, worth every penny, Awesome video Rob.
Sweet baby Jesus that halibut is massive!! Nice haul Rob!
I think maybe Aria had a forever memory on that trip too Dad! 😊
That’s just more proof that you’re a legend!!
🙏🙏🙏
Chance Miller has one of the coolest names and hairstyles ever.
just proof that you can make it happen anywhere. Great job. TGBG.
Glad ur enjoying our state rob!! I sometimes take those break taking views for granted and your videos have helped me realize what a great state this is
So you drove all that way just for the Halibut ?😁 Sorry , couldn't pass it up . Great video , great fish , and all that beauty makes me want to go to Alaska .
Great video. I miss my Dad and I miss fishing with him.
Happy Father's Day 2022
This is literally my dream fishing trip!!
Mine too!!!!
I’ve been watching your channel since me and my wife Moved to NC due to the military and that was 5 years ago I’ve been hooked ever since I’d love to fish with you one day one inspirational man thank you for for everything you’ve put the enjoyment in what some love to do fish and hunt thank you so much
This is awesome! Love the great Alaskan outdoors.
Love from Scotland me and my 5year old son watches every video you post before he goes to bed 💚💚
I was afraid that monster was going to capsize your boat. LOL
Everything you see is why I live in Alaska! Seward is beautiful year round! The people at J-Dock are awesome!
The best fisherman I love this videos 🤩
Thats awesome man.
I got a 204 with my Dad 10 years back, 14 foot aluminum rental, had to pull it to an island and land it. Probably best ever memory with my Dad.
Those red fish are delish - We catch them everytime going out fishing here in Greenland, to harvest some seafood. Oooh, and that halibut is massive.. Great job and great vid.
Man you amaze me every time nice to see the baddies dude in Florida killing it up there no charter boat needed with Robb . Congratulations on that big halibut most people won’t even get to see one .
I am a new fan, my husband passed away last August with stomach cancer, dementia and sclerosis of the liver. Before he got sick we use to go fishing all the time. Could you please send me a small package of that fish lol. Seriously, it’s about 2:00 a.m. in the morning here in North Carolina, I can’t sleep and this is great therapy for me right now; been having problems resting
Holy Cow!!! What a catch!!!!!
