A Moon Shaped Pool is an orchestral masterpiece.
Prolly the most Radiohead cinematic album next to Kid A.
    Also, the ending was heartbreaking.
True Love Waits always had me in tears.

NOOO MY FAVOURITE IS THE NUMBERS 😭. For me every song is amazing except True Love Waits, that's just ok for me.

you should definitely give the numbers another chance that buildup with the strings is incredible and the powerful lyrics, that’s just my opinion tho great video 👍

This album is definitely a slow burner. It has slowly became one of my favorite Radiohead albums. When I first heard it I thought it was in a similar boat as you.

Happy to see another Decks Dark enjoyer, loved its eerie ambience since the release

It’s definitely one that grows on you over time - you come back for a handful of them but learn to love the others

Great album, total grower though. Very subtle, and songs like Desert Island Disk and Glass Eyes passed me by a little on the first few listens. Same with Identikit. Love them now though. Actually, same with The Numbers too.

So... this album... having been a massive Radiohead fan for years, when this one dropped... it just didn't hit for me; I felt so disappointed... but then, one day I was just in this terrible, depressed, no-good, low mood, one of those days that you just feel like crying from the moment you wake up to the moment you go to sleep, and well, I decided to give this album a listen for no particular reason, and like, it HIT HARD. It just clicked into place. It's just one of those albums that has a certain mood, an atmosphere, a feeling to it that you really just got to resonate with. It has texture you got to FEEL. And when you do, OH BOY. That was the first time I came face-to-face with an element of Radiohead albums that I'd always heard about but never had to experience personally until then: sometimes, their albums, they're growers. The more you listen, it gets better and better and then, one day, you'll get it and it will get you. Right in the feels.
Plus, the background context to this album and what Thom Yorke was going through at the time, perhaps that's the missing element for you, that context, that mood... damn... such a sad, sad album. I think the story goes something like this: his partner was diagnosed with cancer, and after 23 years together and two children, they separated, and then she passed away about a year and a half later... so this album, which was released about 6 months before she died, is just infused with Thom's slowburn heartbreak and spikes of anxiety that you can really tap into. That feeling of everything disintegrating around you. Definitely gives that closing track a hell of a lot of weight, that's for damn sure.

it's so funny, in a way, to see other people have the same feeling that I did upon first listen. Like many others in the comments, I did not like this album at first (or second or third.) then suddenly one day everything just clicked and now it's my all time favorite Radiohead album.

This album came after the death of thoms wife and it shows. For sure the most depressing radiohead album. True love waits is about her. Also check out Gods country by chat pile when you can.

This is SUCH a grower. The numbers is a top 5 radiohead track for me. Sure this is their most slow and subtle album but the instrumentation is so rich

AGREE. There's a lot of pretty moments but overall this album doesn't grab me like. I feel like it's missing something

    • @majormajormajortom
      @majormajormajortom 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

I get you, I really do. I, and so many others in the comments, felt the same. BUT. Just keep coming back to it every now and then; one day, it WILL click. Next time you're having a bad day, feeling depressed and everything feels a bit too much, put this album on and I think you'll find that missing piece! You really just have to be in a certain mood for this one to really hit. You probably won't feel any better after, but you might just pull your headphones off and feel like you're not alone; that someone gets it.

Took a real long time for this one to grow on me too!
I do love it though, but not my fave album.
One thing I struggled with is that I absolutely love this version of True Love Waits, and it has taken me years to get into the album version:
