100%. Really impressed that you manage to skip parts of the song with it only being noticeable if you really concentrate. You don't lose the flow of the songs, it's not at all jarring, and you manage to keep the spirit of the songs by including the build ups, crescendos etc. Great work.

Your format for reaction should be the standard in this format. No overreaction, insightful comments during the song, letting the audience experience the song long enough for people to want to listen to the album in their own time. The Community Favourite pop up is a nice touch. You have a nice community.
I loved this album, Nude is my favorite song of all time. During times of severe grief over the death of my fiancee and the depression that came after it, the song comforted me like nothing else I could imagine. This song and Fishmans “Night Cruising” are my comfort songs.

"No matter what happens now, you shouldn't be afraid.
Because I know today has been the most perfect day I've ever seen"
I can't even begin to explain how insanely impactful that one line is. The hope and the sadness all wrapped up in one that Radiohead does so well. And even in a track that a lot of people write off initially because of the odd drum pattern. These guys are so incredibly good at what they do

    • @brbrownfieldxvx
      @brbrownfieldxvx 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

I sort of interpret these lyrics as a realisation and reasurance to a loved one that your suicide is no longer possible after a single day of true happiness. Its this experience that prevents you from ending it all.

    • @BT405
      @BT405 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

@@brbrownfieldxvx I've kinda always though of it as the narrator has finally accepted that they're going to end it all (or just accepted their death in another way that doesn't necessarily have to be suicide). And now that they've accepted what's happening, they're somehow more fulfilled and at peace recognizing that the world really is a beautiful place now that they've let go of a need to go on. And that they are truly happy with their decision. Which is way more heartbreaking and I wouldn't be surprised if that's how it's intended.
Or they could just be lying to make the listener feel better lol

    Some trivia:
    - This was the band's seventh album and the first released after their contract with EMI expired. It was released as pay-what-you-want, where you could download it for free or pay whatever was right for you.
    - My theory for 15 Step is that the title is a reference to the plant Antiaris toxicaria, the poison of which is so deadly a victim can only take seven steps uphill and eight downhill before dying. What's 7+8? 15 Steps.
    - The band recorded the cheers of music school students for 15 Step. They wanted the kids to clap but the unconventional 5/4 time signature was too hard for the students to follow.
    - Nude was worked on for around a decade, starting during the OK Computer sessions. It was originally called "Big Ideas" by fans, as it was unnamed for many years. The final version was built atop the bassline written by Colin Greenwood. The intro is the outro reversed.
    - In Reckoner, background vocals can be heard at 2:49 singing "In Rainbows", which happens to be 61.8% of the runtime; the golden ratio.
    - Videotape is tricking you; the true downbeat is syncopated. The piano is playing half a beat before the downbeat.

It feels like the culmination of everything the band was working for, inner peace and freedom.
It’s a song that makes me move mad in ecstasy and completely consumes my body and soul to express my feelings that no words could ever do.

The way you're so chill about everything is literally the coziest vibe ever- the first reactions being genuine to the moments in the album, the "masters degree in literacy" esque analysis of the lyrics sprinkled into every track, and the way you're just REACTING to it is my everything with this.
No standing up from your chair screaming in pure adrenaline
    No over pausing to talk
Being honest about your takes on each track because each artist has strengths and weaknesses when it comes to the intricacies of production and songwriting as a craft

Second favorite album of all time.
So full of emotion, beautiful production, and a warmth that could make you cry yourself to sleep. So much of Radiohead's best on this one too, Nude/Weird Fishes/Jigsaw Falling Into Place are all up there for me. The atmosphere is so immersive, and it's one of the cleanest sounding records I've ever heard. The way the sounds *feel* is magical.
Jigsaw Falling Into Place got me to start playing guitar. The way it builds and builds is incredibly cathartic. The drunken stumble becomes a stride, as the song's lyrical and musical elements grow more and more in clarity. It's a song that really fit's the title.
More specifically, I love the feeling of yearning across the whole album. It's like you're being pulled in every direction. Thoughts of love and death intertwine in a dreamlike fashion, and every moment of confusion is reflected by one of awareness. It has a quality of loneliness in it as well, which Radiohead always seems to lean into. The atmosphere is isolating, and the lyrics are often abstract and yet incredibly personal.
I think the ultimate thesis of In Rainbows is "euphoria".
Only topped by wowaka's "Unhappy Refrain" for me. In Rainbows is like the perfect reflection of that album to me. Where Unhappy Refrain is harsh, cold, and intense, In Rainbows is soft, warm, and gentle. Both of them are electronic/rock blends, but go about it in completely different ways. In Rainbows is deeply human, while Unhappy Refrain is starkly alien. Two sides of a coin, in a way.
I'd strongly recommend Unhappy Refrain to anyone who hasn't heard it, but it is hard to get your hands on unfortunately. There are some decent uploads of it on TH-cam as the most accessible option (just not the most popular video, it has the songs out of order and is low quality), but I have my own CD. I'd happily send you the rips if you're interested.
Sorry for the tangent, keep up the good work path!! Love your videos

Your point about Reckoner being Thom trying to talk you down a ledge is so accurate. The percussion sounds cacophonous at the beginning to signal disarray and chaos, but then in comes Thom and his delicate guitar. And gradually as the song progresses, the song gets more and more soft, until it releases again. I don't know what that is suppose signify, maybe Thom making us see that the world is chaotic and you shouldn't beat yourself up for being chaotic yourself, thus talking you off from the ledge. Or it could also mean Thom coming with you as you jump the ledge, but that's bonkers after reading it again. The term "reckoner" itself could also mean "reasoner", or vaguely "someone who talks for the sake of reasoning".

the bridge in Reckoner is in my opinion one of the best if not the best moments in music history.
    Innnnn Rainbowwwwsss
p.s the bridge actually starts in the golden section of the album(the golden ratio), which is even cooler and totally accidental according to Thom

  • @kyloasio

I only ever comment on TH-cam to talk about this album. Easily their best imo. It's a celebration of all the sounds Radiohead has created up until this point, from Pablo Honey to Hail to the Thief. In Rainbows is a musical onion, with each song covered with layers and layers both sonically and lyrically. There is such an orgasmic quality to it that keeps me spinning this album over and over again, each experience being different than the previous one.
Doesn't matter if I'm sad or ecstatic, I go to this album for comfort.
I have so much love for each track but Nude and Jigsaw Falling Into Place are really what sticks out to me the most. So glad you reacted to this ✨

Wow I just found out about your channel, this is one of my favorite albums of all times. I’ve been living abroad for 2 years, far away from everyone I love and everything I know, which makes it so hard to keep in touch with my loved ones, but in the middle of the video your reflections gave me a feeling to write a full paragraph to each one of them and tell how much I miss them and appreciate them. Thank you for that, it’s weird, but it might’ve changed the course of my life in 2024.

    A perfectly constructed album reaction!
    Sound editing is stellar.
Most unique is the toggle between first reaction thoughts and interesting retrospect narration. One of the best styles of reactions I’ve come across.
Radiohead is a top 5 band of mine. Stunningly produced cinematic soundscapes that capture a journey through fear, hope, love, and angst.
You’ve now heard their 3 masterclass albums. The rest are great.

You should check out their "live from the basement" set for this album, even just on your own time. I'd argue some songs surpass the original and the production quality is superb.
I'd love to see Hail to the Thief, but I'm sure you're going to spread your wings and go elsewhere for a while musically.

my fav album of all time, seeing your initial reactions to all the buildups and drops and such was awesome because it felt like i was listening to the album for the first time too. also your analysis of each song was great and never overshadowed the actual music itself either--epic video, id suggest hail to the thief or the bends next if you plan to do more radiohead, amnesiac + king of limbs are more kid-a leaning but theyre also fantastic, and a moon shaped pool is also amazing just INCREDIBLY depressing so like heads up
