My favorite song on this album is Tinker Tailor Soldier Sailor Rich Man Poor Man Beggar Man Thief. The orchestration on that song is masterful. I have a soft spot for strings that sound like they're falling and rising simultaneously
Sadly it's not just a response to Rachel Owen separating from him, but also the fact that she was dying from cancer (she passed away shortly after this album released). "True Love Waits" was first performed live by Radiohead back in 1995 with the same lyrics and melody, but with different instrumentation and chords which makes it more of an upbeat love song (check out old live performances of it to hear the difference). They performed it regularly on tours which led to a lot of speculation when it would appear on one of their albums, but they could never find the right way to include it. 20 years later, it becomes the last song on what might be Radiohead's last album.
This is the most cinematic album they made to this date. Decks Dark was used at the end of Ozark's first episode and in various other projects! the chorus is SO visual
The scene in Ozark with decks dark was crazy. It was so fitting to the mood of the series the gloomy doomsday feeling was palpable. Great score choice, they also use the Daily Mail in another scene with Wendy. I’m a huge fan of both RH and Ozark so it was a feast for me 🤗
100%, and was directed by Paul Thomas Anderson (There Will be Blood, Magnolia, Boogie Nights). As other comments have mentioned Paul and Jonny have a working creative relationship as Jonny has scored several of his films now! Pretty neat.

I wouldn't really call it underrated compared to albums like HTTT or TKOL that are kinda hated on and never really talked about vs this album that is often put in the same level as their masterpieces such as Kid A, In Rainbows or OKC. I definitely think this album deserves every ounce of praise its been getting though, if not a bit more.

I am a massive Radiohead fan. When this album dropped, I was actually quite disappointed with it overall. It was a bit underwhelming. But then I learned a lesson about Radiohead that is oft cited and that I never had to deal with before: their albums are growers. One day, I was just in this sad, lonely, introverted mood and I decided to listen to this album again. I felt it deep inside. It just clicked. What a truly fantastic album. I feel embarrassed that I was so dismissive of it my first listen.
Yeah, I always put this as my least favorite Radiohead album; EVEN after Pablo Honey lol, but, I really have started to love it. For me, I enjoy the more sad and slow songs on here like True Love Waits or Daydreaming, but the entire album is emotional and beautiful.
It's always those moment when you need it most that you really start to connect with it. This was the case for Comedown Machine by the Strokes for me. A very underrated album by the band. There's a lot of sadness in it, but it holds a special place in my heart.
Yup. And the more you listen to a variety of music and the older you get, the faster you’ll bridge those gaps on new albums. It requires constant open mindedness and curiosity though to keep that adaptiveness.
Thanks for giving this one some love. When you have a catalog that features Ok Computer, Kid A, and In Rainbows, an album like A Moon Shaped Pool doesn’t get the praise it deserves. People that skip over this one are missing out. It’s nearly perfect.
Those are the albums that tend to grab my attention because it's where the band changes their approach. Of course Radiohead tends to do that every album but that's besides the point lol.
I would recommend Homogenic by Björk. It has beautiful vocals and string arrangements and the song Unravel off that album is actually Thom Yorke's favourite song
This but Vespertine instead. Homogenic is kinda a growing pains album between early and mid Björk, like how Volta is a growing pains album between mid Björk and current Björk
While this isn’t my favorite Radiohead album (In Rainbows bruh omg) it’s the one that feels the most mature. Some of the tracks, on the right days, can make me emotional (glass eyes man sometimes I can’t). It strike emotional chords that are so relatable and turns Thom from a guy that used to sing about political issues (OK and HTTT) to someone who wants to open about how he feels. It’s beautiful from start the finish
I love how vulnerable Thom is in this one for sure. It may not be my complete favorite but on the right days, I'll be listening to it more than others. In Rainbows is definitely my favorite though.
This album is easily my favorite album of all time. Every song is a sucker punch in it's own heart-wrenching way. It's also unbelievably detail-oriented. The final unsettling sounds at the end of Daydreaming are actually Thom Yorke saying "half of my life" (referring to either the time he spent with his wife OR the time he's spent with Radiohead itself) stacked and reversed. And Identikit is way deeper than most people realize as well. The word "identikit" means "a picture of a person, especially one sought by the police, reconstructed from typical facial features according to witnesses' descriptions." One of the reasons the track is called "Identikit" because of its different sections and how each of them is so different, yet they all come together to create an entire picture. Such a mind-bogglingly well done and perfect album. Edit: Great video man I can't believe how little subscribers you have for the quality of content you create. Edit 2: You should listen to The Downward Spiral by Nine Inch Nails. It's super strange and industrial but it's an essential listen in my opinion.
I find your comments on Identikit very interesting. The imagery that I get from the song is I think that "A moon shaped pool" is a sort of juxtaposed line from "Broken hearts make it rain". The idea I get is that the moon shaped pool is formed from the broken hearts making it rain. Thom is attempting to interpret his heartbreak as a moon shaped pool, a more optimistic way of viewing his heartbreak, a way to move on. To further support this idea I think that a crescent moon can visually look similar to a broken half of a heart and that instead of viewing it as just the "half" it can also be viewed as a whole. I think the album cover specifically captures this where the white space in the middle creates what could be interpreted as the moon shaped pool but the everchanging and everflowing darknesses that come with life may distort the image of the moon shaped pool but also help create it in the first place. This album he constantly fights with moving on vs clinging on, light vs dark, the moon shaped pool formed from the heartbroken rain. Maybe true love waits symbolized the darkness possibly overbearing his ability to move on and create the moon shaped pool. "As symbolized from the tiny puddles in the album cover inside the white space".
I think Thom uses constant juxtaposition in the album through the instrumentation that is present in songs like Daydreaming and Glass Eyes, the titles "Tinker Tailor Soldier Sailor Rich Man Poor Man Beggar Man Thief" (a series of what can be interpreted as juxtaposed characters) and the lyrics like on songs like Identikit.
That's some really great imagery and I really like how abstract and yet so real that is. It's true that the darkness that goes along with love is incredibly difficult to fight off at times. Crazy how this album cover is so bleak and bare of color but is so vivid.
At the end of Daydreaming, the creepy voice in reverse says "half of my life" this means 2016 was the year he equally celebrated to start playing with Radiohead and the beginning of the long relationship with girldfriend then wife Rachel Owen in early 90s. A lot of time for sure and deep deep feelings mixed.
Watching you react to Radiohead brings back so many warm memories of me listening to these albums for the first time. I wish I could go back but I’m thankful for people like you who allow me to feel it through you once again with every song reaction. Thank you for putting the work in for this.

I love videos like this, i watched all your other Radiohead ones and the Gorillaz ones. I only relatively recently discovered Radiohead and initially starting with Ok Computer and occasionally checking out but not getting too hooked on Kid A, I just liked the more easily digestible and more traditionally prog / alt rock aspects. Eventually I really got into the depth of the emotions and lyrics of OK Computer and i hit a really big low point in a depressive episode, id finally gotten to appreciate and LOVE Kid A- it's experimental yet extremely expressive and emotional feel. I was stuck on these two for quite a while until i was ready again to expand, as if internalizing each step of Radiohead's internal growth of the artists, helped me understand their next step of creation- Amnesiac, once I got into it, was an absolute revelation, perfect for my mood at the time, Pyramid song being one of their perfect songs to me. Beautifully melancholic, like a journey into the afterlife, in tired description. At this point in time, having listened to Pablo Honey, The Bends, Ok Computer, Kid A, Amnesiac, Hail To The Thief, In Rainbows, The King of Limbs and A moon Shaped Pool, I can confidently say A Moon Shaped Pool is my current favorite and an absolute masterpiece of an album. If it's their final album, which of course would be both understandable and yet a shame, it would be a fitting end. A beautiful, truly human performance, gorgeous arrangements with Thom Yorke's deep cutting expressive emotional vocalizations. I love Burn The Witch, the high strings cutting in like anxiety but... so pretty. The literal song text "this is a low-flying panic attack" hits deep with me. Daydreaming grew on me very heavily. It's so powerful and painful and sobbingly deep. But every single song on this album is ICONIC to me. Ful Stop, like you said it is repetitive, but it never feels that way to me, because it is a trance of emotion. Their rhythm's and melodies both are artistically immense and I think everyone should at least TRY to listen to Radiohead's works ONCE. Thom Yorke's voice is stuck in my head, in a good way. The complex arrangements, Johnny Greenwood's work, all of it is so spectacular and a once-in-a-lifetime experience. It has helped me cope in recent times and I have NEVER felt so seen and understood by music as with Radiohead's catalogue. It has expanded my horizons, let me learn to appreciate much more music and played right into my empathy which I value so much. I remember watching the old BBC interview with Thom Yorke where he express that he thinks Music is for affirming emotions, and that hit me so hard, he's right. We affirm our emotions with the music we listen to, and it's so important for so many people. I love it. I love seeing the emotions on your face as you try to catch all the different elements while also processing the emotions and realizing the meanings and the art of these songs, great videos.
So glad you reacted to this! This album has really grown on me over the years. Hearing lyrics I hadn't really payed attention to before, and appreciating how they paint such a vivid picture. I can now completely understand those fans who have this as their number one album. The strings section at the end of Tinker Tailor is criminally underrated.
Yeah the band has really changed the way I look at songs overall. There's so much story telling in not just their music but in general, and it goes mostly unnoticed.

Definitely a masterpiece and I sure hope it isn't their last either. Thank you for asking this! I have cried many times to RHCP for many reasons. Wet Sand, Dosed, Tear, Warm Tape, Brendan's Death Song, White Braids & Pillow Chair, Tangelo are the ones that always hit me. When I saw them live, the songs that really hit me were Scar Tissue in 2016 and Californication in 2022 where I finally saw John back with the band.
I would just love to se you react to the king of limbs album in their "from the basement" performance version, it is so much more Radiohead at their core, just them and their instruments jamming and playing their soul out through that session. The album version is a little to alienating for me.

WOOOO!!! i love this album so much. if you continue to cover Radiohead (i hope u do) definitely check out amnesiac, it was like what kid a would've been in an alternate universe if they didn't go for the electronic experimental stuff. still has some of the best songs of their career imo and is really underrated
this record has at least 2 brand new songs, the rest were arranged for past records and reworked to fit conceptually here. Burn the Witch dates back to 2003 with Hail to the Thief, and was played for In Rainbows but dismissed. Same with Ful Stop played live during TKoL live shows. Fun fact: True Love Waits is 25 YEARS OLD, and never saw official release other than I Might Be Wrong: Live Recordings, a version hardcore fans love to death.
To be accurate, 4 songs were brand new and the True love waits was also unknown in this version. I belong to those, who prefer the I might be wrong live version though.

A deserving member of the RADIOHEAD Holy Trinity: OK Computer, Kid A, and A Moon-Shaped Pool are all genius-level album masterpieces. AMSP is the most underrated, but repeated listens reveal a worthy inclusion. Heartbreaking, beautiful, haunting, and moving finale to brilliant catalog. The strings remind me of the orchestral work on Elton John’s Madman Across The Water song. (Speaking of which… ELTON JOHN: Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy is great from first to last… and autobiographical, as well) Love your thoughtful reactions. A few suggestions: XTC: Apple Venus Vol. 1, GRANDADDY: Sophtware Slump, THE CHILLS: Submarine Bells…. All albums of incredible quality.

Glass Eyes makes me cry every time. This is one of their best albums for sure. I'd love to see you do a reaction to Siamese Dream by The Smashing Pumpkins if you haven't already heard it.
The emotional weight of Rachel, his partner, also passing away (may she be at peace) along with "6th band member" producer Nigel Godrich lost his father during the production - so a lot of the album carries this heavy feeling for sure. You really ought to check out the 2 videos made by Oscar winning and RH cohort Paul Thomas Anderson, of Thom and Jonny playing "The Numbers" and "Present Tense" - entitle Thom and Jonny and a CR78 (a drum machine) - they are such great clips and a part of the whole album experience. The final song - the original which is just Thom playing acoustic, is one of my favorite songs ever in al of music, it is what I plan to play at my wedding for the big dance and play myself at the reception (need to find a wife first but who knows) - that is how beloved the other version is but this one is an entirely different song and is so powerful and sad and relevant to this time 20 years later. The one B-Side Single they put out "Ill Wind" is also a really awesome track. Your reactions have been great all along - I think as for a next album, given your trajectory, it would be an awesome shock to the system in all the best ways, to go back to LP2, many fans' favorite to this day, "The Bends." To hear them at their core, 3 guitar attack, bass and drums, that despite all the other experimenting and amazing inventive things they did and perfected all along, this album is full of great great rock songs, some all time RH songs - and its cool to hear their more elemental form, Thom's voice at such full power it will blow you back, and it is just an essential. "Hail to the Thief" would also be a great direction - the bridge between "Kid A" and "Amnesiac" to "In Rainbows." Your taste has gained my trust from your reactions, and of course I know RHCP, some I like and some not as much but of course a killer band - but I've never given "The Strokes" a single chance beyond their initial banger of a single. So now I am further intrigued at what I must be missing - more reason to start listening to them.
It has definitely added so much more weight to my listening experience knowing that Rachel passed away. This album is currently holding a special place in my heart among their albums. I will say that I intend to listen to another one of their albums next month and that I've known which one that will be since january. I've really gravitated towards RHCP for both their driving rhythms and power (BSSM and Californication), but also their softer, romantic sound as well (By The Way is my favorite album). Sonically, The Strokes have lined up with my musical preference perfectly. Hard to put into words, but Julian's vocal abilities along with the nostalgic and timeless guitar riffs have really changed my perspective on the world. For them, I think each of their albums are unique, but my immediate recommendations would be either Is This It (for a nostalgic and grounded garage style) and then their most recent, A New Abnormal (a totally different listening experience but equally as satisfying). Then afterwards, you can go in any direction with the rest of their albums.

As a Gen Xer RHCP were part of my life always and though I never zeroed in on them beyond all the great songs, they are undeniable for so many reasons. Do you know Thom and Flea formed a group? 'Atoms for Peace' around 2010 I think - great clips to get a first look would be their live spot on Stephen Colbert - kind of a low key super group with the drummer and percussionist both being in bigtime bands in the alt rock world, and its a strong piece of work - cool sound and story behind their formation. Its cool to be rollling with A Moon Shaped Pool for a while - unsolicited advice, they also did a single "Ill Wind" - unlike most of their albums which have an entire 2nd record almost of B-Sides (a whole additional frontier for RH after the main albums as these B-Sides are pretty epic at every stage of their evolution) this was the only other song sort of like a B-Side that they put out around this album but I really like it. Also, it's cool to go back and listen to them work out the song "Identikit" on their prior tour - it was different and both versions are really cool. Lastly, "Present Tense" - due to Jonny Greenwood's ascent to being one of the top movie music composers - 2 Oscar nominations now - he has a close tie to master film maker Paul Thomas Anderson - he did the score for "Their Will Be Blood" which is just an incredible movie but his music plays a huge part in that, and he has done all of PTA's movie's since. As a result, the band and he are linked, and he directed 2 videos for "A Moon Shaped Pool" of just Thom and Jonny and a CR78 drum machine in a quiet live setting, that are must viewing. Also, 'Present Tense' has been around since at least 2006, and Thom would play it at solo acoustic sets, and it sounds a lot different but man did I love it so so much, that first version, for years. Worth hearing - I like them equally the 2 now. But those videos are incredible - just thought I'd offer back some rabbit holes as a thanks for the music suggestions! And of course 'The Smile' - Thom and Jonny's side band they just toured - I saw them in DC - the album is great, the show was ridiculous - they keep writing, there is an awesome clip of a song it seems they finished up that day, called "Bending Hectic" not on the album they released, man it gives Jonny's playing a showcase and maybe a glimpse into what a 10th Radiohead album might be like (please to all gods out there listening) - but yeah the two main geniuses having fun, swapping bass and guitar - cool project and great music. As I always say about RH, Thom I think will be looked back on with more and more reverence as just how incredible he is/was as time goes on. But it never hurts to have your lead guitar player also be a beloved orchestral composer as a side gig and one of the most sought out movie score writer in the industry- just a random chance of the Universe all these guys came upon each other to create this one of a kind band. But that is the truth for so many incredible bands and stories - it is what keeps music such a wonderful Universe to ease the spirit and mind and be a distraction - but a positive one. write too much always, thanks for the indulgence. One of my favourite albums by Radiohead (of course they have their classics as well) but this one just hits different. I feel like there's a sort of continuation of this vulnerability by Thom in Anima. Would love to see a video on that. Very introspective and deeply moving as well.

Always great seeing a smart listener experience the magic of a Rafiohead album for the first time. Deck's Dark and The Numbers are two kf my favorites and it was awesome to see that they connected with you. Would love to see you give Silverchair a listen. Very similar to Radiohead in the sense that they began from a primitive, generic sound and transformed into a wholly unique band that makes brilliant music. Their 4th album, Diorama, is a masterpiece.

Give it time and Radiohead will eventually become your favorite band. That being said RHCP is still great, John Frusciante is my all time favorite guitarist, but they’re still light years away from ever touching RH in my opinion.

The Bends influenced a generation of British and Irish acts, including Coldplay, Keane, James Blunt, Muse, Athlete, Elbow, Snow Patrol, Kodaline, Turin Brakes and Travis. Pitchfork credited songs as such as "High and Dry" and "Fake Plastic Trees" for anticipating the "airbrushed" post-Britpop of Coldplay and Travis.

"True Love Waits" was first performed live by Radiohead back in 1995 with the same lyrics and melody, but with different instrumentation and chords which makes it more of an upbeat love song (check out old live performances of it to hear the difference). They performed it regularly on tours which led to a lot of speculation when it would appear on one of their albums, but they could never find the right way to include it. 20 years later, it becomes the last song on what might be Radiohead's last album.
It's really tragic to hear about this and makes the album all the more emotional. I hope they continue on.
There was a version released in 2021 with the rerelease of Kid A and Amnesic, that is combined with Pulk/Pull

This is the most cinematic album they made to this date. Decks Dark was used at the end of Ozark's first episode and in various other projects! the chorus is SO visual
This one has been the most vivid to me up there with In Rainbows.
The scene in Ozark with decks dark was crazy. It was so fitting to the mood of the series the gloomy doomsday feeling was palpable. Great score choice, they also use the Daily Mail in another scene with Wendy. I’m a huge fan of both RH and Ozark so it was a feast for me 🤗
The Daydreaming music video is a true masterpiece. If you haven't seen it already... Do it.

I wouldn't really call it underrated compared to albums like HTTT or TKOL that are kinda hated on and never really talked about vs this album that is often put in the same level as their masterpieces such as Kid A, In Rainbows or OKC. I definitely think this album deserves every ounce of praise its been getting though, if not a bit more.

I am a massive Radiohead fan. When this album dropped, I was actually quite disappointed with it overall. It was a bit underwhelming. But then I learned a lesson about Radiohead that is oft cited and that I never had to deal with before: their albums are growers.
One day, I was just in this sad, lonely, introverted mood and I decided to listen to this album again. I felt it deep inside. It just clicked. What a truly fantastic album. I feel embarrassed that I was so dismissive of it my first listen.
Yeah, I always put this as my least favorite Radiohead album; EVEN after Pablo Honey lol, but, I really have started to love it. For me, I enjoy the more sad and slow songs on here like True Love Waits or Daydreaming, but the entire album is emotional and beautiful.
It's always those moment when you need it most that you really start to connect with it. This was the case for Comedown Machine by the Strokes for me. A very underrated album by the band. There's a lot of sadness in it, but it holds a special place in my heart.

Thanks for giving this one some love. When you have a catalog that features Ok Computer, Kid A, and In Rainbows, an album like A Moon Shaped Pool doesn’t get the praise it deserves. People that skip over this one are missing out. It’s nearly perfect.
Those are the albums that tend to grab my attention because it's where the band changes their approach. Of course Radiohead tends to do that every album but that's besides the point lol.
I would recommend Homogenic by Björk. It has beautiful vocals and string arrangements and the song Unravel off that album is actually Thom Yorke's favourite song

While this isn’t my favorite Radiohead album (In Rainbows bruh omg) it’s the one that feels the most mature. Some of the tracks, on the right days, can make me emotional (glass eyes man sometimes I can’t). It strike emotional chords that are so relatable and turns Thom from a guy that used to sing about political issues (OK and HTTT) to someone who wants to open about how he feels. It’s beautiful from start the finish
I love how vulnerable Thom is in this one for sure. It may not be my complete favorite but on the right days, I'll be listening to it more than others. In Rainbows is definitely my favorite though.
This album is easily my favorite album of all time. Every song is a sucker punch in it's own heart-wrenching way. It's also unbelievably detail-oriented. The final unsettling sounds at the end of Daydreaming are actually Thom Yorke saying "half of my life" (referring to either the time he spent with his wife OR the time he's spent with Radiohead itself) stacked and reversed. And Identikit is way deeper than most people realize as well. The word "identikit" means "a picture of a person, especially one sought by the police, reconstructed from typical facial features according to witnesses' descriptions." One of the reasons the track is called "Identikit" because of its different sections and how each of them is so different, yet they all come together to create an entire picture. Such a mind-bogglingly well done and perfect album.

Edit 2: You should listen to The Downward Spiral by Nine Inch Nails. It's super strange and industrial but it's an essential listen in my opinion.

I find your comments on Identikit very interesting. The imagery that I get from the song is I think that "A moon shaped pool" is a sort of juxtaposed line from "Broken hearts make it rain". The idea I get is that the moon shaped pool is formed from the broken hearts making it rain. Thom is attempting to interpret his heartbreak as a moon shaped pool, a more optimistic way of viewing his heartbreak, a way to move on. To further support this idea I think that a crescent moon can visually look similar to a broken half of a heart and that instead of viewing it as just the "half" it can also be viewed as a whole. I think the album cover specifically captures this where the white space in the middle creates what could be interpreted as the moon shaped pool but the everchanging and everflowing darknesses that come with life may distort the image of the moon shaped pool but also help create it in the first place. This album he constantly fights with moving on vs clinging on, light vs dark, the moon shaped pool formed from the heartbroken rain. Maybe true love waits symbolized the darkness possibly overbearing his ability to move on and create the moon shaped pool. "As symbolized from the tiny puddles in the album cover inside the white space".
I think Thom uses constant juxtaposition in the album through the instrumentation that is present in songs like Daydreaming and Glass Eyes, the titles "Tinker Tailor Soldier Sailor Rich Man Poor Man Beggar Man Thief" (a series of what can be interpreted as juxtaposed characters) and the lyrics like on songs like Identikit.
That's some really great imagery and I really like how abstract and yet so real that is. It's true that the darkness that goes along with love is incredibly difficult to fight off at times. Crazy how this album cover is so bleak and bare of color but is so vivid.
Jonny’s string arrangements really shine on this album. Even more so than even In Rainbows.

At the end of Daydreaming, the creepy voice in reverse says "half of my life" this means 2016 was the year he equally celebrated to start playing with Radiohead and the beginning of the long relationship with girldfriend then wife Rachel Owen in early 90s. A lot of time for sure and deep deep feelings mixed.
Watching you react to Radiohead brings back so many warm memories of me listening to these albums for the first time. I wish I could go back but I’m thankful for people like you who allow me to feel it through you once again with every song reaction. Thank you for putting the work in for this.

Heartbreaking album and listening with the lyrics up gave me a different experience. The whole thing is Thom dealing with his ex wife dying and finding love with a new woman. Breathtaking

I love videos like this, i watched all your other Radiohead ones and the Gorillaz ones.
I only relatively recently discovered Radiohead and initially starting with Ok Computer and occasionally checking out but not getting too hooked on Kid A, I just liked the more easily digestible and more traditionally prog / alt rock aspects.
Eventually I really got into the depth of the emotions and lyrics of OK Computer and i hit a really big low point in a depressive episode, id finally gotten to appreciate and LOVE Kid A- it's experimental yet extremely expressive and emotional feel.
I was stuck on these two for quite a while until i was ready again to expand, as if internalizing each step of Radiohead's internal growth of the artists, helped me understand their next step of creation- Amnesiac, once I got into it, was an absolute revelation, perfect for my mood at the time, Pyramid song being one of their perfect songs to me. Beautifully melancholic, like a journey into the afterlife, in tired description.
At this point in time, having listened to Pablo Honey, The Bends, Ok Computer, Kid A, Amnesiac, Hail To The Thief, In Rainbows, The King of Limbs and A moon Shaped Pool,
I can confidently say A Moon Shaped Pool is my current favorite and an absolute masterpiece of an album.
If it's their final album, which of course would be both understandable and yet a shame, it would be a fitting end. A beautiful, truly human performance, gorgeous arrangements with Thom Yorke's deep cutting expressive emotional vocalizations. I love Burn The Witch, the high strings cutting in like anxiety but... so pretty. The literal song text "this is a low-flying panic attack" hits deep with me. Daydreaming grew on me very heavily. It's so powerful and painful and sobbingly deep. But every single song on this album is ICONIC to me. Ful Stop, like you said it is repetitive, but it never feels that way to me, because it is a trance of emotion.
Their rhythm's and melodies both are artistically immense and I think everyone should at least TRY to listen to Radiohead's works ONCE. Thom Yorke's voice is stuck in my head, in a good way.
The complex arrangements, Johnny Greenwood's work, all of it is so spectacular and a once-in-a-lifetime experience. It has helped me cope in recent times and I have NEVER felt so seen and understood by music as with Radiohead's catalogue. It has expanded my horizons, let me learn to appreciate much more music and played right into my empathy which I value so much.
I remember watching the old BBC interview with Thom Yorke where he express that he thinks Music is for affirming emotions, and that hit me so hard, he's right. We affirm our emotions with the music we listen to, and it's so important for so many people. I love it.
I love seeing the emotions on your face as you try to catch all the different elements while also processing the emotions and realizing the meanings and the art of these songs, great videos.
So glad you reacted to this! This album has really grown on me over the years. Hearing lyrics I hadn't really payed attention to before, and appreciating how they paint such a vivid picture. I can now completely understand those fans who have this as their number one album.

Wet Sand, Dosed, Tear, Warm Tape, Brendan's Death Song, White Braids & Pillow Chair, Tangelo are the ones that always hit me.
When I saw them live, the songs that really hit me were Scar Tissue in 2016 and Californication in 2022 where I finally saw John back with the band.
I would just love to se you react to the king of limbs album in their "from the basement" performance version, it is so much more Radiohead at their core, just them and their instruments jamming and playing their soul out through that session. The album version is a little to alienating for me.
The basement session is far better (to me) it sounds like a different album and I like it almost as much as the In Rainbows basement session.

this record has at least 2 brand new songs, the rest were arranged for past records and reworked to fit conceptually here. Burn the Witch dates back to 2003 with Hail to the Thief, and was played for In Rainbows but dismissed. Same with Ful Stop played live during TKoL live shows. Fun fact: True Love Waits is 25 YEARS OLD, and never saw official release other than I Might Be Wrong: Live Recordings, a version hardcore fans love to death.
To be accurate, 4 songs were brand new and the True love waits was also unknown in this version. I belong to those, who prefer the I might be wrong live version though.

I've been watching a lot of reactions to this album lately, and this is one of the best yet. Your articulation and understanding of the lyrics is great and made me think of some of them in a different way because of that.
A deserving member of the RADIOHEAD Holy Trinity: OK Computer, Kid A, and A Moon-Shaped Pool are all genius-level album masterpieces. AMSP is the most underrated, but repeated listens reveal a worthy inclusion. Heartbreaking, beautiful, haunting, and moving finale to brilliant catalog. The strings remind me of the orchestral work on Elton John’s Madman Across The Water song. (Speaking of which… ELTON JOHN: Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy is great from first to last… and autobiographical, as well)

Glass Eyes makes me cry every time. This is one of their best albums for sure. I'd love to see you do a reaction to Siamese Dream by The Smashing Pumpkins if you haven't already heard it.
The emotional weight of Rachel, his partner, also passing away (may she be at peace) along with "6th band member" producer Nigel Godrich lost his father during the production - so a lot of the album carries this heavy feeling for sure. You really ought to check out the 2 videos made by Oscar winning and RH cohort Paul Thomas Anderson, of Thom and Jonny playing "The Numbers" and "Present Tense" - entitle Thom and Jonny and a CR78 (a drum machine) - they are such great clips and a part of the whole album experience. The final song - the original which is just Thom playing acoustic, is one of my favorite songs ever in al of music, it is what I plan to play at my wedding for the big dance and play myself at the reception (need to find a wife first but who knows) - that is how beloved the other version is but this one is an entirely different song and is so powerful and sad and relevant to this time 20 years later. The one B-Side Single they put out "Ill Wind" is also a really awesome track. Your reactions have been great all along - I think as for a next album, given your trajectory, it would be an awesome shock to the system in all the best ways, to go back to LP2, many fans' favorite to this day, "The Bends." To hear them at their core, 3 guitar attack, bass and drums, that despite all the other experimenting and amazing inventive things they did and perfected all along, this album is full of great great rock songs, some all time RH songs - and its cool to hear their more elemental form, Thom's voice at such full power it will blow you back, and it is just an essential. "Hail to the Thief" would also be a great direction - the bridge between "Kid A" and "Amnesiac" to "In Rainbows." Your taste has gained my trust from your reactions, and of course I know RHCP, some I like and some not as much but of course a killer band - but I've never given "The Strokes" a single chance beyond their initial banger of a single. So now I am further intrigued at what I must be missing - more reason to start listening to them.
It has definitely added so much more weight to my listening experience knowing that Rachel passed away. This album is currently holding a special place in my heart among their albums. I will say that I intend to listen to another one of their albums next month and that I've known which one that will be since january.
I've really gravitated towards RHCP for both their driving rhythms and power (BSSM and Californication), but also their softer, romantic sound as well (By The Way is my favorite album).
Sonically, The Strokes have lined up with my musical preference perfectly. Hard to put into words, but Julian's vocal abilities along with the nostalgic and timeless guitar riffs have really changed my perspective on the world. For them, I think each of their albums are unique, but my immediate recommendations would be either Is This It (for a nostalgic and grounded garage style) and then their most recent, A New Abnormal (a totally different listening experience but equally as satisfying). Then afterwards, you can go in any direction with the rest of their albums.
@@lusciousluie Thanks so much for the reply and recommendations in particular - I have a long road trip soon and that would be a perfect opportunity to check them out. As a Gen Xer RHCP were part of my life always and though I never zeroed in on them beyond all the great songs, they are undeniable for so many reasons. Do you know Thom and Flea formed a group? 'Atoms for Peace' around 2010 I think - great clips to get a first look would be their live spot on Stephen Colbert - kind of a low key super group with the drummer and percussionist both being in bigtime bands in the alt rock world, and its a strong piece of work - cool sound and story behind their formation. Its cool to be rollling with A Moon Shaped Pool for a while - unsolicited advice, they also did a single "Ill Wind" - unlike most of their albums which have an entire 2nd record almost of B-Sides (a whole additional frontier for RH after the main albums as these B-Sides are pretty epic at every stage of their evolution) this was the only other song sort of like a B-Side that they put out around this album but I really like it. Also, it's cool to go back and listen to them work out the song "Identikit" on their prior tour - it was different and both versions are really cool. Lastly, "Present Tense" - due to Jonny Greenwood's ascent to being one of the top movie music composers - 2 Oscar nominations now - he has a close tie to master film maker Paul Thomas Anderson - he did the score for "Their Will Be Blood" which is just an incredible movie but his music plays a huge part in that, and he has done all of PTA's movie's since. As a result, the band and he are linked, and he directed 2 videos for "A Moon Shaped Pool" of just Thom and Jonny and a CR78 drum machine in a quiet live setting, that are must viewing. Also, 'Present Tense' has been around since at least 2006, and Thom would play it at solo acoustic sets, and it sounds a lot different but man did I love it so so much, that first version, for years. Worth hearing - I like them equally the 2 now. But those videos are incredible - just thought I'd offer back some rabbit holes as a thanks for the music suggestions! And of course 'The Smile' - Thom and Jonny's side band they just toured - I saw them in DC - the album is great, the show was ridiculous - they keep writing, there is an awesome clip of a song it seems they finished up that day, called "Bending Hectic" not on the album they released, man it gives Jonny's playing a showcase and maybe a glimpse into what a 10th Radiohead album might be like (please to all gods out there listening) - but yeah the two main geniuses having fun, swapping bass and guitar - cool project and great music. As I always say about RH, Thom I think will be looked back on with more and more reverence as just how incredible he is/was as time goes on. But it never hurts to have your lead guitar player also be a beloved orchestral composer as a side gig and one of the most sought out movie score writer in the industry- just a random chance of the Universe all these guys came upon each other to create this one of a kind band. But that is the truth for so many incredible bands and stories - it is what keeps music such a wonderful Universe to ease the spirit and mind and be a distraction - but a positive one. write too much always, thanks for the indulgence. One of my favourite albums by Radiohead (of course they have their classics as well) but this one just hits different.
I feel like there's a sort of continuation of this vulnerability by Thom in Anima. Would love to see a video on that. Very introspective and deeply moving as well.

Always great seeing a smart listener experience the magic of a Rafiohead album for the first time. Deck's Dark and The Numbers are two kf my favorites and it was awesome to see that they connected with you. Would love to see you give Silverchair a listen. Very similar to Radiohead in the sense that they began from a primitive, generic sound and transformed into a wholly unique band that makes brilliant music. Their 4th album, Diorama, is a masterpiece.

I don't even care if it's in a video, PLEASE check out True Love Waits on their 2001 live album "I Might Be Wrong" it's the best version of the song, so much different, and so so so much more powerful, at least to me

There are a lot of comments at this point, so I'm not checking if it's been suggested yet haha. But you should listen to the 2003 NY live version of True Love Waits, it's faster paced and way better imo.
This isn't in the middle of Radiohead albums for me, but it's also the most emotional and cinematic.

Give it time and Radiohead will eventually become your favorite band. That being said RHCP is still great, John Frusciante is my all time favorite guitarist, but they’re still light years away from ever touching RH in my opinion.

The bends from radiohead can be cool to have the review next. the second album of radiohead and people dont know if radiohead going to be a one hit wonder after creep on the first album ( the first album its not bad). Radiohead prove he not a one hit wonder with this album. This album is more easy listening of ok computer or kid a because its just a very nice album with nice guitar and some great vocal This album have 5 videoclip and like wikipedia said the album inspired many band.
