    Great video man! You basically went right through my unused tackle! I stopped using crankbaits a while ago and have been really trying to use jigs but they just don't outperform a straight up texas rig creature for me and I want to throw them at all the same stuff. You made my "stock" setup decisions much easier!

    Hahahaha!! We have the same top 3! I've either never used, or never caught fish on any of them. Perfect! So many ways to catch fish and I'll stick with what works for me.

    Been bassin since the 70's. Caught thousands! Never ONE on a jig. Only 3 or 4 on cranks & never fished a Carolina rig & never will. Texas rigged plastic worms. Top water especially at night. Shiners & a secret weapon that only my dearly departed dad saw me use. Fish what works for ya!! Great vid!!!

    I couldn't catch anything on a jig until I spent one year fishing it every time I went out. Making myself throw them for at least 2 hrs. Now I love them. One lure I haven't caught anything off of is the Buzz bait. I haven't even gotten a bite using one.

    See, the beauty of the sport is what you can catch fish on and what you're confident in. I love the old Texas rig worm and I love flipping jigs in brush up here in NC at the right time of year. I hate throwing buzz baits tho. I know they catch fish, but I just don't like it. I'll pull a popper, or a frog, just don't like that buzz bait. I've got a few buzz baits in the box but it's usually my last resort. Not a fan of wacky rig either. It all could change one day and that's some of the fun of it. The more I do it and the more I learn about it the more likely I am to try it. Good times out on the water either way, and that's ultimately what it's about.

    • @bigtime8907

      Buzzbait strikes are awesome. I know for sure buzzbaits infuriate fish the way they try to annihilate them. Try early mornings around ambush points in spring/summer.

    I'm a relatively new fisherman. I almost always start with a 3-4" swimbait, either with the hook molded into it or rigged on a 4/0 Beast hook. I'm not going for big fish, but really just any fish. So far it's been the *only* lure I've landed bass on, and also my PB pike of over 30".
    I recently tried spinnerbaits on the local river. I hooked into a big smallmouth, but the fish immediately jumped and spit the hook. That's the only spinnerbait bite I got.
    I mostly fish from the bank, and when I do fish from a boat most of the lakes I fish are too shallow for deep divers, so I've never used them. I used a jig once, but no luck with it. Still trying to figure out what works for me.

    I think a deep crankbait is the best bait to throw out deep in the summer. I just started throwing deep Crankbaits this year and I caught my Pb which was 8.01 and caught many more big fishing on them including my uncle caught a 7.14 on one this year at a lake where we have never caught big fish (We live in Georgia)

    What?! I agree on the C-rig. But deep cranks and jigs are a staple everywhere but... wherever you're fishing, I guess. 😂
    I actually hate chatterbaits. I have some, I've caught a few, I hate them.

  • @jasminpuric2312

    When he said jigs...I smiled...been bass fishing for 20 years, just started using the jig 2 years ago. Just takes time to build confidence, confidence is key.
    My least favorite is the chatterbait, spinnerbait always outfishes it for me, so i rarely pick it up.

  • @dogfishjones850
    @dogfishjones850 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    1-Deep divers I hate throwing BUT…if I catch one it’s usually a 4+ lbs. 2-Texas Rig worm. I just find other things that seem to catch fish better. 3- buzzbaits, I have a better chance of catching them with my net.

  • @robertbain2435
    @robertbain2435 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    This is great BLAT. It’s nice to hear a pro being honest about lures/rigs they just don’t like.
    I’m a bank/pond guy, so deep diving cranks and C-Rigs aren’t really part of my game plan either. I do like throwing a Jig though.
    I’ll tell you the one that frustrates me the most is a Chatterbait. I have tried for a couple of years, and haven’t caught a single fish. I’ve tried burnin them, hoping them, you name it. Even spent the $ for a Jackhammer....nothin!!!

  • @mswen1983
    @mswen1983 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    1- Deep Diving Crankbaits: These can be kind of hard to master. You have to make a super long cast and they spend most of the retrieve either diving or coming up and relatively little in the strike zone. I like them for trolling, but you don't do a lot of trolling for bass.
    2- Jigs- You don't catch as many, but when these work, they work! 2 of my 5 biggest bass, including my PB, were caught on jigs.
    3- Carolina rig - Definitely a pain to rig, and it can be hard to tell when a fish has your plastic. I prefer a split-shot rig, a drop shot, or a shaky head.

They also skip great. check them out one day and just give it a shot bc i use to feel the same way and now im in love.

    Carolina rig is great for catching less active fish and for targeting bottom feeding species. Use it all the time up here, especially for river fishing. It's usually called a slip sinker rig or running rig though and not a Carolina rig since I'm not in the U.S.

    Boy Boy Boy Brooks you catch a fish on that bait and you will be showing your daddy up. B-Lat much respect for being an amazing father to your kids. I know that we only see what is on TH-cam but we can tell that you are a loving and caring daddy. My daddy has always told my brother and myself that when we grow up and have kids that the main thing to remember is that anyone can be a father but it takes a real man to be a DADDY. I am now 36 years old with 2 kids and I still call my daddy Daddy. I have had people make fun of me over the years for saying Momma and Daddy instead of mother or father, mom or dad. Anyways you Sir are a daddy and I enjoy seeing the kids on here and would like to see it more. My son has probably watched the video of you and your son fishing a tournament 100 or so times. I just felt like giving credit where credit is due.

    Top 3 favorite techniques
    #1. 4" watermelon red lizard on a small 1/8oz weight in pre-spawn to post spawn.
    #2. Drop shot worm and keitech. Favorite worm is perch by a small company on the east coast. Absolutely kills in Ca. all year round.
    #3. A toss up between a swimbait/underpin to Top water bite. When the bite gets tough a swimbait will usually get a bite or two and the smallies love em.
    Top 3 baits I don't like or haven't been good at.
    #1 Jig fishing no luck
    #2 punching don't like
    #3 Senkos because everyone uses them even if they still catch me fish.

    I hate the drop shot. I use it and I catch em but I would rather catch them any other way

    Man i loathe throwing a chatterbait but i always have two jigs tied on at least lol. Same on the deep divers though.

    I’ve never had much luck with deep crank baits either, I’d much rather throw a shallow square bill along weed lines.
