    It is great to see videos about Millennium Falcon. Lots of items to attend to. Keeping an older car in good condition does require constant attention, including safety inspections, and budgeting for repairs. I am really glad Elbilmek found that loose tie rod before it broke!

    Trunk actuator binding up is a common failure on the classic teslas. When mine did the same thing as yours the mobile mechanic said if he bought a tesla that would be the first thing he would change out. And of course we all know about the handles, all of mine have been changed. 2015 85D.

    The failing trunk is a pretty common fault in older Models S. It was actually a part of my Norway trip during the summer and it was not a nice experience. As you stated, the car can not be locked so it had do stay unlocked the whole trip. And also for some reason the cruise control did not work because all parameters were not met to enable it (the car thought the trunk was still open). So I had to drive it manually! (talk about industrial country problem 😉) Not the the greatest experience when traveling by car 😄

    The biggest issue is that currently in many countries there are no 3rd party ev services like Nassir and Waldemar.

    • @Steror
      @Steror 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

      It's more likely you just haven't found them. Where there are old Teslas, there will be repair guys who know how to fix them, because it's good business. In eastern Europe we can start to afford used Teslas and while there are no or few official service centers, there are 3rd party EV and Tesla specialists if you look for them.

    The frunk and tailgate latches stopping at the same time, in the way that it happened, has to be a glitch caused by the low 12V system voltage. Then after some time it got reset.
    I did have the tailgate latch “stuck” like that once too, by releasing it from the inside and pushing the lock all the way closed with a screwdriver it started to work again.

    The click,click noise from the driveshafts are because of lack of lubrication between the driveshaft and the hub. If you remove the big nut to the driveshaft and push the driveshaft towards the motor (sometimes the driveshafts are stuck so you need a bit of force to push it back on the splines, when its pushed back you gain som play between the driveshaft and the hub, then you can lubricate the driveshaft meeting area against the hub from behind with lithium grease, replace the nordlock washer and the nut.. torque it down to 245nm... no more clicking noise

    I have heard many stories about 12 volt battery issues. If the contactors are closed (car "off") is the 12v battery isolated so plugging in the car won't do anything to charge it?
    With regards to the rust issues, to be fair any car used in winter will suffer for it.

    • @tschuuuls486

    Admittedly I've had less issues with my Citroen's of this age but more with Toyota's and Mazda's of this age, gives me the impression older Tesla's are about middle of the road as far as maintenance, I wonder if newer Tesla's are better or worse, only time will tell.

      most of the stuff that breaks down is the useless electronic gimmicks from what i see
      if car manufacturers go back to the old good days when everthing was machanical and simple analog then it would be way more reliable

    • @tschuuuls486
      @tschuuuls486 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      At that time tesla was more of a startup and the designs weren't as proven as they are today. Putting a valve at the bottom of the pack might be completely fine in 99.5% use cases but the devil is in the details. The door handles look to be completely tesla in house. And it shows. Potting the whole PCB is great for water ingress protection, but if they are flexible and create a crevice for water to enter after a while, it's not the best design :D
      The trunk latches, air shocks and other stuff is mostly off the shelf from other car oems. The model X door latch is shared with some Mclaren, the trunk latch looks very Mercedes/VW on first glance (probably both supplied by bosh or similar).
      A model 3/Y has a lot more custom parts than a pre Raven tesla for example.

    • @daveamies5031

      @@tschuuuls486I am hoping the M3/Y especially the second gen are much more reliable, Tesla strikes me as a company that learns and improves, but they are still young so time will tell. My original comment was more this first gen car is no worse than a Japanese car for maintenance of a high KM older car, this is a great starting point for a first gen car from a startup.

    Typical for high tech cars, to many electric motors and gimmicks how can break, away with all this fancy stuff and the cars would be more reliable. I my opinion it's even stupid, to put all this stuff in an electric car, every one of this door handle motors and electric openers use the juice from the Batterie, juice you need for driving. And we all knew the problems that Tesla had, when the battery gets drained, even without driving the car. Less is more, that can break.
