After a thousand tries of taking the upper solenoid in and out cleaning and even replacing with a new one. I forgot to check the lower solenoid to look at the filter and low and behold it was clogged after cleaning that and putting the original solenoid in the car is back to normal, so thank you for this video, currently in 2021 😁. Mine is at 220,000
This gives me hope! My 08 blessed me with a code haha (shift solenoids never gave me one) not looking forward to pulling the dual but today is the day ha
Same here giving me hope. I had the code for a little bit now. Now my pilot is leaking atf somewhere. It seems like it's around one of the solenoids so possibly a bad gasket. I got the at temp light on while driving on the highway. Had it towed home and going to dig into it later today.
Great video! I'm a senior lady and keep educated about my Honda Pilot 2007. Transmissions scare me after the last car went out at 145k at 4K to fix. I drove 2 Ford Explorers for many years with 1998 never engine or transmission problems @ 250k it just stopped. Loved that ride, not sure about Honda again ?🇺🇸👏🏼👍
Replaced fluid /solenoid A black connector and solenoid C the long one on the bottom I didn't do B I tested and it was clean I changed the duel solenoid on top and tranny filter .car shifts like butter but is still throw p0740 .any ideas ???update-car ended up needing a new torque converter and tranny rebuild
I just did the same thing first had a 798 did both same c sensors you did one is pressure selenoid c and the other I shift selenoid c was fine after 2 days driving it I get a 740 code now
Just a quick FYI. Honda transmissions come will a fill plug. From your perspective at the front of the car looking down into the engine bay, it'll be on top the case in back a couple inches away from the rear edge and a couple three inches in from your right relative to the transmission case. It's a 17mm hex head and it's got a large flange. You'll know you have the right bolt because it will be impossibly tight when you try to crack it loose. It's much faster than trying to funnel it through the dipstick tube.
What exactly was the trans doing b4 you changed the solenoids? Knowing the symptoms would help greatly. Thanks. Mine started out by slipping when it shifted from 3rd to drive. Now it slams into drive if it actually shifts. Stats in 2nd now. Randomly downshift as well
Replaced trans with a known good trans. Still have same problems. I'm going to replace the pcm with has the tcm integrated into it,and see if that's what it causing the trans to randomly downshifting and not allow upshifting.
Thanks for the info I can't remember the code but I am having shift problems I have already replaced the shift silinoid on top of the trans and a shaft sensor and service the fluid but nothing has changed so I will look into these I will have to hit a junk yard and just start pulling silinoids I live in montana so not much around here so I will look for a road trip win win haha
So the main solenoid that you changed first with 4 bolts is the a/t clutch pressure control solenoid valve C. The two small single bolt solenoids you took out are your tcc and shift solenoid valve B. The black one is the tcc and the brown one is the shift solenoid B

Never use silicone an any transmission. If you need to use a sealer, use Permatex 300, let it dry overnight, then install. Why not silicone? The transmission fluid will break the silicone down over time and any excess will migrate into the transmission and can cause it to plug somewhere and cause the transmission to fail. I'm a Transmission Specialist and trainer for years on Cars trucks, semi's etc. A friend of mine came over with his ford car and His dad works for Ford, His dad changed the filter and fluid on His son's car, used silicone on the gasket and sure enough, after about a month the silicone came loose and cause his transmission to fail and I had to rebuild it. Do yourself a favor and use the proper transmission cement. Permatex 300.
