- Learn how to make these fabric yoyo lollipop Christmas ornaments! Including how to make a double sided yo-yo using striped fabric to make a pinwheel pattern in the finished yo-yo's. Make these in a variety of striped patterns for all kinds of different lollipops!
If you give these a try, I would love to see them! Post a picture on my facebook page here: on. 1brUImV
What you'll need:
-striped fabric (I used red and white with 1/4" stripes)
-buttons
-ribbon
-lollipop sticks
-posterboard
-thread and needle
-twine or cording for a hanger
-scissors
-glue
-rotary cutter and mat
-ruler
Cut fabric on a bias (diagonal) into 3" strips and then into 7.5" lengths. If you're lucky enough to find fabric with diagonal stripes already you can cut along the grain. Fold fabric in half, right sides together and sew together using a 1/4" seam allowance along the 3" ends, making sure to leave a 1/4" gap in the stitching in the middle of the seam. This will create a cylinder. Working on the wrong side, turn over a scant 1/4" seam and using a double thickness of thread, baste around the edge using large stitches. Gather to form the back of the yo-yo, make a back stitch to secure and knot the thread. Repeat on the opposite side and insert a 2-1/4" diameter circle of poster board. Instert a lillipop stick into that 1/4" of the seam allowance you left open and glue stick to the posterboard circle. Let dry and then gather the front of the yo-yo. Make a backstich, knot the thread and pull end of thread to the inside of the yo-yo. Attach a hanger using a 10" piece of twine or cording. Make a bow with an 8" length of ribbon and secure to the lollipop stick and glue or sew on buttons onto the center of the bow and center of the yo-yo. And there you have your fabric yo-yo lollipop ornaments! Enjoy!

I love these! They are so adorable. You are right, cutting the fabric on the bias does make a nicer look for the lollipop.
So cleaver!!!
This is wonderful!
My 2 year old granddaughter
...and my pup
..safe alternative to the expensive antique ornaments I have...
These can be sewn together rather than all of this gluing. They would probably last longer with no detached parts. You can sew a stitch or two through the button on the ribbon to hold it together and I'd use hot glue to attach it to the stick to make it more durable. Also, the same with the button on the front of the candy. I'd stitch through the ornament to attach it before gathering the back. It's probably also easier to put the hanger in, with a dab of fabric glue on the knot, before gathering the back. I've made a similar one before, but the stripes never aligned like yours. Terrific idea to cut on the bias and make that swirl!
Very nice manicure. Love this ornament.
This is excellent. I am so glad you mentioned the cutting on the bias, and why, etc. Thank you.
They are Darling! I love them. You always make me smile. Thank you!
I would promise to make these, but I can't, my hands are giving me a fit right now, but I just may have to get my daughter to make me some of these for me. I just love Christmas ornaments. Although I have a ton of Christmas "things", they are getting so old that, some of them just have to be replaced. Making them yourself makes them so special too. Bless
I love these lollipop ornaments! I'm so happy I found your wonderful video now while I still have time to make some for this Christmas! You are very creative and your video with instructions are so clear and helpful. Thank you for sharing your talents!
thanks for this tutorial!! My 11 y/o grand daughter and I made them today
Absolutely adorable!! I can't wait to make some for myself! Since you've helped with figuring out how to make different sizes, I think I'll make a smaller version for my mini tree's too!!! Thank you so much for sharing!!
These are cute.Thanks for sharing.
Fabulous.
You are great, at explaining and demonstrating !
I make a new Christmas ornament every year...just found your videos....Great ideas for next years...Thanks for sharing
I really like those. Thanks! Hope I can find time to make a dozen for this Christmas and gifts.
I like everything done right now though so I think I would use hot glue or fabri tac.
Thank you so much my friend. How wonderful. God Bless you. ☺
Adorable, I'll be making a few for my grandkids. Thanks for sharing.
Jason that is amazing and I love it. You made such small stitches when you put the tube together. This is just adorable. Hugs!
Thanks so much Melissa!
Jason this totally proves how creative, smart and how much patience you really have lol. I love this idea, it looks fantastic and so original. This can certainly be a special gift ! Thanks for sharing Hun
Thank you Angie!! I still say I'm not that patient, LOL!!
croutoncrackerjacks MORE than I have thats for sure Jas! LOL
I love this idea! Very creative with a reasonable amount of effort!
thank you very muuuuch!! they are absolutely lovely! this is a great and easy idea for my christmas tree. a big hug.
leave off the lollipop stick ,add a white button to the center of yoyo and voila ,A peppermint candy ornament,
That works as well!
Without the stick, u could go to a craft store and get some clear wrap & wrap each one like a peppermint candy disc.
+Kathy Schultz and just tie them on each end with the 1/4" ribbon!

What a cute way to make a lolipop. Good job...
This is PERFECT for the sewing project that I am doing. Your tutorial is so clear and easy to use. However, I do have one question, if you could answer it... What would be the formula on making larger versions of these? I of course would find the circumference of my insert to determine the initial length of cut... but how would I determine what the width piece would be? Or do you have a standard chart that you've figured out, i.e.... add so many inches per size of your insert. Thanks!!!
Amanda Fouse For the length, you do the circumference plus 1/2" for seam allowances but the width is a bit harder to figure out. In a perfect world, it would be the diameter plus 1/2" for seam allowance but you have a hole in the center of the yo-yo that gets bigger as the yo-yo gets bigger. The more stitches you make going around, the larger the hole will be so you'll need a thinner strip and the less stitches you make, the smaller the hole and the wider your beginning strip. You'll have to play around with it to get it so the insert fits well for you. Sorry there is no definitive answer for you.
Crouton Crackerjacks Thanks so much for the quick response!!! Your answer makes sense to me! I will take some scrap fabric that I have laying around and play with it a bit until I can get the right size for my discs. Thanks again!!!
Gorgeous and very nicely made!
I love your Christmas ornament series! Can't wait to try these!
Hope you enjoy!
Love this it so cute.I am going to make some for my christmas tree this year❤
love your unique instructions 🎄
So darn cute! Filing this away for next year! The only change I will make is putting the hanger in before closing the back. It would be easier for me than locating my steel crochet hook lol
So cute! Love your videos ... easy to make as well as follow. Made the fabric ornaments for my brothers and they loved them! Thanks ... keep the videos coming. Great job!!!!!

Very cute. Gives lots of ideas.
I'm going to hunt for some of that fabric and give these a try ! Thanks so much for the video !!
Hope you enjoy!
if you made a hole in the middle of your cardboard circle, you could sew buttons to the center back to back, you could even use those shank ornamental buttons for the center. cute idea, thanks
Estou adorando suas aulas, obrigada.
Just found your videos and I love them!
I love this. Always love your videos.
Wow so cute and clever!!
AWESOME! Cute as can be! Thanks!
so pretty
Love your lollipop.
Thank you so much for such a fun idea...I think I will use some of the fabrics I have in my quilt bin. Maybe get the striped too.
If you make them with a non-striped fabric you can do them with just a regular yo-yo made from a 5" circle of fabric. Then you can make a tiny slit on the edge to insert the lillipop stick. I made a few like that but liked the striped fabric better so stuck with that!
croutoncrackerjacks
thank you for the great hint with the 5 in squares

Freaking adorable!! I literally was hooked on your channel for a whole day!! You amaze me!!! Yay Christmas stuff!!!!
Thanks so much Angela!!
I like it thanks for sharing this with us
So so cute!!
The bad Persian in me is all about Christmas decor. Maybe it's the Fabulous Gay in me but I love everything Christmas. Is this your own idea? Why the craft glue instead of hot glue? Just curious, not that I will ever make these. lol They are just flipping adorable. they sure would garland to hang in a window.
HAHA!! I absolutely love everything Christmas too! The yoyo lolli's aren't my original idea and neither is doing the pinwheel design. But never did I see the pinwheel yo-yo's used to make the lolli's so I guess kinda sorta my idea but not really. ;-) And you could certainly use a hot glue gun but mine is packed away somewhere. The craft glue was accessible. :-)
These are so cute!! You are very talented and crafty... Can you please do more Christmas ornament diy's
Thank you! Two down and 4 more to go! ;-)
really cute ..love it
Adorable .............
I get so much fun out of your videos. You make the cutest ornaments. Will you show us your tree and decorations at Christmas? Would love a tour and an autobiographical post! Who is Jason?? What's his history?? I am known for my nosiness!
Thanks Sue! Ironically, I don't have many ornaments. Not enough to fill a tree anyway. Most of the ones I do have were received as part of an ornament exchange here on YT last year and the year before. Almost all the ornaments I make I give away to friends and family. And I've debating doing a 'Draw My Life' video but just never have. Maybe some day. ;-)
LOve it! HUgs, ZOe
What a cute idea! I'm going to make these with my kids. Is there another way to make these without sewing the fabric? love your channel by the way.
I'm not sure how else you could do them other than forgoing the fabric altogether and just painting or coloring on the posterboard and then going from there. But I don't see why those couldn't be just as cute!
These are so cute & YOU are so talented ! Great job ! =)
Thank you Wendy!!
Legal . Amei a idéia.
