Lovely Christmas ornaments! I love them! Thank you for sharing with us this wonderful project :)
Happy that you enjoyed this project and tutorial! We appreciate your support and comment! - Abby
So glad I'm not the only one who calls it Modge Podge💖💖
Don't worry you're not alone! - Yajaira
This is a great idea for those of us who have lots of scrap papers, too! I'm a card maker and a scrapbook maker, so using my paper scraps to do this project would be a great way to use them up! Thanks!
Yes, this would be perfect with paper scraps as well! You could also use photos to make cute keepsake ornaments. Let us know how your projects go! - Morgan
I do the same! But don't you think that card stock would be harder to tack down, and stay in place? I think it would be the same with photos. Have either of you tried it yet?
@@animallovefest143 I wouldn't use the heavier card stock, that's for sure, but the lighter papers would work. I wouldn't use the photos that are printed on photo paper either, but if you print them out using your printer paper, that would be light enough that you should be able to manipulate to make the ornaments.
Hi Jennifer ! I wanted to share my girl friend's idea: she's made Christmas ornaments with the mod podge but used old ornaments that were in need of an upgrade. I thought this was a great way to use some of my "scarred" ornaments. Again, Merry Christmas and a Blessed New Year. :-)
+Susan Allen what a great idea for reusing older ornaments! Thanks so much for sharing this tip!
Susan Allen this see thru ornaments are 2 for $1.00 at the dollar store, very cheap, thanks I bought some and didn’t know what to do with them, now I will work on my next year ornaments!
Shabby Fabrics for
great idea Susan
That would make a good project for volunteering at the Senior Citizens center.
Yes it would! We love that idea! - Morgan
I wish I had read the comments before I made my ornaments. My ornaments are memorial ornaments for my nephew and mother-in-law. I used my nephew's dress shirt and my mother-in-law's nightgown on each ornament, Even though I have buckled seams, I think my family will love and treasure them. I mixed the fabrics on each ornament, so it's more patchwork. My friends say that imperfections give them character, so I'm going to go with that. Thank you for your videos. I'm starting to order from your site exclusively.
The little imperfections really do add character, and that's such a special ornament to make. We love the idea of using special shirts or clothing from loved ones. We would love to hear how your family received them. We're sure they will love them. Thank you so much for watching our videos and taking the time to tell us about your project. We love hearing from you and are so glad you're enjoying us!
That's a fantastic, more personalized idea! I really like that, thank you! You mentioned that you wished that you read the comments prior to making your ornaments, is that cuz of the bubble removal ideas, or something else? I would also like to know how your family received them?
Four years later and this is still a wonderful idea. Thanks so much for filming and sharing it.
Yay! We're so glad to hear that! Thanks so much for watching, we're so glad you like it! - Morgan
Creating the ornament and sealing at the same time??? Yes, please. Sign me up! What a great idea. TFS
Thank you so much for watching! - Morgan
Yes you can make these with polystyrene balls. I've done loads of these using PVA glue. So much fun with children and be prepared for stickiness. I've neveve used modge podge but I think I'll give it a go. With a polystyrene ball you have to use pins and ribbon for a hanger. Also I have done star shaped polystyrene and the are lovely with gold fabrics and a tough of glitter. These balls are fab.
Lovely tips, and thank you for sharing what you've tried and what has worked for you! Let us know how it works with the Mod Podge! It's fun (also sticky) to do with kids! - Morgan
I made these in school in the 80s!
Hi.I'm a grandma , I make ornaments with my grandkids. I love your idea. I think we will try your idea. Thanks for sharing.God Bless You.MeMe
Thank you for watching! Making ornaments with my grandma is one of my favorite Christmas activities! We are so happy to be a small part of it! ~Leah
I used little dowels wrapped in cotton and use the up prongs of an egg carton to hold my ornaments. It worked very well.
That's a great idea! Thanks so much for sharing it with us! -Michelle
This is amazing! My Nana passed this week and I was looking for a way to use all her holiday shirts to make ornaments for the family ❤
Thank you!!
That is really a great idea. I am sure she is appreciating you doing that in remembrance of her. Happy that you enjoyed this video and thanks for your comment! ❤️ - Abby

So glad you found it helpful! Thank you for watching and let us know how yours turn out! - Morgan
Thanks, your projects were very pretty. I use napkins for my ornament projects. Very easy to repair. Comes out just great. I do use fabric to make lots of other home decor projects from table tops to wastebaskets. I will try fabric on my smaller projects to see how they come out.
Using napkins is a great idea! Let us know how yours turn out, we love to hear about them and hear your ideas for projects and videos you'd like to see. - Morgan

I love that top you’re wearing!
Thank you so much! :)
Hello, again! I have experimented with ways to do away with the "bubble" issue and found a way that eliminates them completely. Cutting on the bias does do away with the bubble, but some fabric prints you just don't want to bias cut, so ... back to "lab". I tried using pinking shears and there were absolutely no bubbles, but since the Modge Podge was wet, couldn't tell if the pinking shear cuts would show, so had to wait for it to pretty much dry. The pinking shears worked perfectly. No bumps, no bubbles and the pinking cuts don't show up, at least on my fabric and I used some light and some dark. Just wanted to give you an update. I really like the ornaments.
That is awesome +NG B! We LOVE pinked edges so this is great news! Thank you so much for taking the time to experiment and share with us!
what is meant by pinking edges ??please.
@@lanarbis5870 Pinking edges is zigzag. You can buy pinking shears that cut in little zigzag pattern.
@@diannastamper2406 I have a rotory cutter with pink edge also
Very good point
I love these ornaments! Thanks for sharing. :o)
Aren't they just the best? Thanks so much for watching! - Morgan
Great inspiration. Thanks
Thank you so much for watching! So glad it inspired you. - Morgan

Love those!
Thank you! Let us know how your projects turn out! - Morgan
Beautiful!!.
Thank you so much for watching! - Morgan
Wonderful idea to do with a group of friends. I would just make sure to add my favorite fabric for last layer if at all possible
Yes! It's definitely that time of year again!! -Michelle
Really attractive results. Kudos!!!
Thank you! So glad you like them and thanks for watching! - Morgan
I agree, and I like that it's something that you can sit down with a box of them, and just get creative 😁
Love it!
Thank you! 💖 -Leah
Just a thought, I usually coat with Mod podge, then coat whatever medium I am adherring to project then smooth each layer.
Then when all medium is applied I go back over everything and seal with 1-2 coats of the Mod Podge. And Wah La!! Done! I really like the idea of coating with the glitter, also just watched a video of Epsom salt!! You could glue chunky pieces of silver glitter as well! And maybe some small Rose's for more vintage look and ribbon
Great tips, thank you for sharing! - Morgan
Awesome 👍🏽
Thank you! - Morgan
Very good. I will try this.
Have fun! Thanks for watching!
You say modge podge the same way as I do! I add the extra ge on mod ! So funny!😄
Jen just couldn't help it, her brain added that extra "ge" in there! Glad she's not alone in that. ;) Thank you for watching! - Morgan
suggestion, put the ball onto a chop stick and wrap a rubber band around it near the ball to hold it firmly. easier to cover all sides of the ball. some balls have sharp glass edges under the metal hook which you have removed. you don't want to get finger cut
That's a great safety tip, thanks for sharing that! This is especially useful if you do this craft with little ones. - Morgan
Thank you ....beautiful
So glad you like it! Let us know how your project turns out! - Morgan
I use old make up brushes to spread the Mod Pauage. They work wonderfully
That's a great idea, thank you for sharing that with us! - Morgan
My youngest daughter who has autism use this for a demonstration for 4H and she did well she enjoys making these ornaments
That is wonderful! Thank you for sharing your touching story with us. We are happy you enjoy this fun project. 💖-Michelle
Just found your video. Cutting strips on the bias might prevent the bubbles or areas that don't want to smooth easily. Of course, bias cutting might be an issue with patterned fabrics. Really nice looking ornaments..
Such a good tip +NG B! Thank you so much for taking the time to share it with us!
Geirgeous🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤
We totally agree with you! Thanks for your comment!❤️😊 - Abby
Great tutorial!! Beautiful ornament. Thanks so much.
Of Course! Happy Quilting! :)

Wonderful video..Thank you sharing..God bless you and the family always..I'm a new subbi
Thank you so much! Merry Christmas! 🎄-Leah
Great project and tips from comments as well. I've never used Mod Podge before so found I had to keep a damp cloth on hand for sticky fingers. Shorter strips worked better for me and even squares to cover bald spots. Also found it better to do the top of the ornaments last so the fabric wasn't bunched as I was holding it. A toothpick helped to smooth out any bumps & pull off random threads. Not sure if I used too much Podge but it worked better after 1st coat to leave overnight. I made little labels with year & names with white cotton & permanent marker. How much of it did you use? I used up a whole bottle for 8 ornaments. Thanks for the project!
Thank you for watching and sharing your ideas and how you did it! I am not sure how much Jen used for these ornaments. It may depend on how thick you apply it. Merry Christmas! 🎄~Leah
Now I love your idea.I want 🍯 🐝 material. It reminds me of my Dad, humgingbird material for my mom.God bless you and stay safe.MeMe
Thank you for watching, Deronda! - Sophie
The company needs to change their product name to "modge podge". Everyone calls it that!!! :) Thanks for the great idea!!
We agree! Mod Podge gets to be quite a mouthful, especially when you're trying to focus on making an ornament. :) Thanks for being a good sport about it, we appreciate you! - Morgan
I seem to recall that Modge Podge was the original name.
I absolutely agree! Plus it’s cute and it’s fun to say !
The bubbles...could be dealt with by soaking the fabric strips in Modge Podge in a small bowl. The fabric becomes soaked and as you apply it to the bulb I had no bubbles.
That's a great tip, thank you so much for sharing that with us! - Morgan
Just so beginners don't know and get confused, Its Mod Pauage not modge pauage. Look at your bottels and you'll see it there
Six years later and I found a new project. 😂

Rather than "sugaring" on your last layer of Mod Podge why not use the glitter Mod Podge. Its perfect for adding shimmer and the more layers of it the more glitter :)
That is an adorable idea!!
This would be pretty with lace ribbon either with fabric or alone. Tiny flowers etc at the top would give it a Victorian look.
What a lovely suggestion!! We're glad you enjoy this tutorial! -Michelle
Thanks!! Nice tutorial :)
Thank you! Merry Christmas! 🎄-Leah
TYFS
You're welcome! :) Thank you for watching and commenting. - Morgan
Well this still inspires in 2021
We are very glad to hear that!! Thanks for watching!! -Michelle
Thank you for this video, I paint acrylic on canvas using mix media, with texture paste, and lots of heavy embroidery fabric. I varnish everything on the canvas except the fabric because I'm worried to ruin the fabric, please advise me on what to do. Thank you
Hello. We're not sure what would work best for that kind of project. We've only ever used Mod Podge for fabric crafts, and it may or may not be a good option for what you need. We always recommend testing on small scraps before committing to big projects. Mod Podge might be a good place to start your experiments. Let us know how it goes. - Morgan
Love this idea! FYI it's actually MOD pog.lol
Mod-Podge is certainly a tongue-twister when you say it a lot. ;) Thanks for watching. - Morgan
it's like making a piñata.
Yes it is!! Thank you for watching! - Morgan
This is a great video. Thank you. Have you ever used plaid fabric for these? Just wondering if it would work with the modge podge.
While we haven't attempted a plaid fabric with these ornaments, we don't see why it wouldn't work the same! We're glad you enjoy this project. Thanks for watching!! -Michelle
Really beautiful craft and a great idea. Is it textile Mod Podge? I am watching you from Argentina!!
Thank you so much for watching and commenting!
to dry them put on a chop stick and then put the "lollypop" stick into a jar or vase so thar the balls splay out and don't touch me each other
or crumple up wax paper and sit the balls on it so the don't roll around
That is a great idea! Thanks for sharing that with us! - Morgan
I stick my chop sticks in oasis works great blocks and rounds.
Great idea to give a new look my boring 30 y/o Victorian ornaments.
Perfect way to continue to use them! - Yajaira
Very pretty will have to give it a try... do you have to wash your sponge out when your finished or are they made like that to throw away... thank you for sharing x
It's up to you! Those sponge brushes are pretty inexpensive so you can throw it out after you are done or rinse it and keep re-using it!
Thank you for getting back to me x
No problem :) Thanks for watching!
Using lace would be pretty
Yes it would!! Let us know if you try that! - Morgan
I agree, I also wonder if you used a lace with a lot of holes if you could put lights in it.
can you use epsom salts for the sugaring instead of glitter? :-) beautiful by the way !! (the ornaments arent too bad either) lol
There doesn't seem to be a reason why you couldn't use Epsom salts!
I would think the larger the coating is, it will come off easier, when storing, and handling. And I would suggest putting a spray sealer on, even over the glitter, so it doesn't flake off, and you get it everywhere. I use the Mod Podge "Clear Acrylic Sealer-Gloss" to cover any glitter items that I do, and it works great, and holds the sparkle of the glitter. Hope this helps 😽
Great tutorial on these! Where can I find a set of good quality clear plastic ornaments? Does your web site have them available?
Hi CJ - We do not sell the clear plastic ornaments on our website. You local craft store may have a good variety of them in stock. -Michelle
Can u mix the glider with the moshposh then put it on the ornament? I do like your tutorial also.whats the measurements on the strips of fabric I like what you are doing.
Hi Mark - Yes, you can mix the two together for applying at the end. Jen was using fabric from a 2.5" roll, so she cut those strips into 4" segments. Hope this helps! -Michelle
About how many stripes in all do you think? Does it have to dry completely between coats of MP? Would Epsom salts be to heavy for the glitter?
Great questions! We're not sure how many strips make up an ornament. It's been a while since we've made these, but it's great for scraps, so you could make one to see about how many you use. We recommend letting it dry completely. Epsom salts might work, we haven't tried that! - Morgan
What size balls do you use. Can they be the two part fillable balls or must they be they one piece onesl
I believe theses are 2.5" balls +Melita Clark. I think the two part ones will work as long as you can stick pins in them and they will hold together!
Modge Podge is very expensive for what it is - just a brand name - 1 cup of PVA glue and 1/3 cup water in a jar shaken until mixed is the same thing for pennies....
That's a great tip, thanks for sharing! - Morgan
What a wonderfully Positive response
Hi, can I use scrapbook white glitter instead sugar glitter? Also I’m deaf and love your idea even the other fabric overlapping! I’m wondering if you have time to add closed captions on your video? I will have my deaf ladies come over my house and to do on this coming October 27th 2018. Thank you! 😊🤗
Yes, you can use any glitter you have. We've started adding captions to all of our newer videos, and are going through adding them to our older videos. We'll work on this one over the next couple of days so it's ready for your craft party on the 27th! We'll let you know when that's complete. Thank you so much for watching.
Thank you so much and I appreciate it! 👏🏻👏🏻😄
You're so welcome! We love your suggestions. If you have any more ideas/requests, let us know and we'll see what we can do. - Morgan
Hi Tami! We wanted to let you know that we added those subtitles so you can use this video for your fun craft party at the end of this month!
Hi, thank you so much and I appreciate it! I’m looking forward it. 😊
This was a great idea. Do you have a tutorial using any photos along with fabrics? What about any patriotic/military ornament ideas?
Thank you so much for watching! We haven't done a tutorial using photos with the fabrics, but imagine it could be done really easily using the same Mod-Podge method. Patriotic fabrics would make a great substitution for Christmas fabrics, and the no-sew "quilted" Christmas ornament tutorial we did would look gorgeous in red, white, and blue. You can see that here: th-cam.com/video/fV_XtQ_tJ_A/w-d-xo.html
- Morgan
@@ShabbyFabrics Are you talking about printing the photos on the fabric, or using actual printed photos? It just seems like even Mod Podge would have a difficult time tacking them down, maybe this would be a great future video 😺
If you cut the fabric on the bias would you have any bubbles?
We're not sure, we haven't done it that way before! We recommend testing with scrap fabric before committing to your nice fabrics! - Morgan
if you cut your fabric on the bias it will lay down on the curve better
Great tip! - Morgan
Does it have to be cotton fabric? I was thinking to let granddaughters cut up one of their old shirts & modge it on. Do u think it would work? Then add glitter? I am watching all ur Christmas videos one after another. I call it "Falling down the rabbit hole". Lol
Great question! You can most certainly try any other fabric material. In the beginning of the video Jen even says that she used to make them out of paper when she was a kid. I would recommend that you get the right Mod-Podge that you think will hold it together well. Thank you for watching! - Yajaira
What is modge podge? Is it known by any other name? Can't get it here in the uk but I really want to try this. Thanks for your videos. I love them
Mod Podge is a water based sealer and glue product. If you have white craft glue that dries clear, you can add a bit of water to it to make it more "paintable" and that will work as an adequate substitute!
Dorien Reed you can buy mod podge in the UK at hobby craft
Mod podge can be brought in the uk any craft shop. Hobby craft the range.hope this helps 😃
PVA glue is the same thing and much cheaper!
This was a great video. Could I use a photo or should I make a paper copy or the original photo
Thank you! We're happy you enjoy this project. We do think that a copy of the photo on paper or photo paper would be the best option. 💖 -Michelle
Does the fabric have to be in even strips? Can they be different shapes?
You can use any variation of shape, or fabric of your choice. You may have to play with it a little more for your fabrics to lay flat; however that is what would give your ornament your own unique touch. Happy Quilting! -Kyla
Shabby Fabrics thank you!
Can this method be used with foam balls - size 2.9?
Absolutely! You'll just add a bit more fabric and Mod Podge to it! - Morgan
Can you use Christmas ribbons, the ones that already have glitter?
Sure!! -Michelle
You can use Epsom Salts instead of glitter as well
Great tip! Thank you for sharing - Yajaira
I was wondering if you can put a photo on a Christmas ornament
That's definitely a great suggestion!! -Michelle
I think you should do the entire project just speed up the video, just my two cents. Some of us want to see the entire thing done. Cute project. I will try it
Thank you for sharing that feedback! - Morgan
What is the told times you coated the ball with the Mod Podge?
Thanks for asking, Michelle! We don't remember how many times we coated the entire ball. It doesn't really matter, as long as all of your strips are secured down. When you're coating the ball with Mod Podge after to add the luster, you'll just do that to whatever level you prefer. Usually 2 or 3 times works really well. Does that help? - Morgan
What size of plastic ornaments did you use?
I believe theses are 2.5" balls; however, you can use any size of your preference. Happy Quilting! -Kyla
Can I use the Mod Podge on Silk?
After a quick google search, there are ways you can use mod podge on silk! Have fun! ~Leah
